Shala Construction came out promptly to quote the job. Vince was very helpful in discussing the construction details. He then submitted a detailed quote in about 3 days. After getting the permit , and starting the job, they worked full days, usually until 6 PM, including Saturday, and finshed in a week, as promised. We are very satisfied with all aspects of their work, from the heavy duty framing, to the very professional carpenter work. You can tell that Vince and Tony take pride in their work.

No one arrived for the appointment. No call was made to inform us of the cancellation.

My interaction with them was good. The price initially was a little higher because they didn’t really give me a full design. So when they got down to the day, we realized that we had some design confusion and luckily I was able to rectify things and we agreed on a price. The quality of their work was good. They kept some of the trash and I had to ask them to pick it up which they did.

We contacted Shala Construction to replace the post that is holding up the small roof over our front door and to replace some deck boards. We also had some small things we wanted done - replace small parts of the fascia and some rotting 2 x 4s - so we also talked about those. During the walk around the house I mentioned we were getting new gutters soon. He asked about the roof. I had gotten an estimate from the same company that was replacing the gutters. Shala said he could beat it so I told him to go ahead and give me an estimate. I was complaining about the siding and said I'd love to have it painted and he suggested power washing so I told him to give me an estimate on that as well. I received the estimates quickly. He was $100 over on the roof and wanted me to get my own permit so I declined that. All the rest of the work was in one big lump sum. I asked him to itemize because I couldn't afford it all. He did and had quoted over $2000 to power wash the house. I also declined that. The email correspondence had been prompt at the beginning. As I declined jobs it slowed down and when I responded that I only wanted the post, the deck and the small things done (which is what I originally contacted him for) the emails came to an abrupt halt. I had wanted to stain the deck after the boards were replaced and by this time the leaves were falling. After realizing that he didn't want to waste his time on a small job I ended up hiring a carpenter who did all that I wanted for a quarter of what Shala was going to charge.

Overall my experience was good. Vince came to my house to learn about the project and emailed a written estimate in about a week. We met again to sign the contract and remit deposit. They started the work the following week and overall did a nice job. The size of the deck was a bit larger than the original. Unfortunately, this resulted in the stairway protruding a bit into the driveway; the fence post could not be returned to the same location, leaving the gate with nothing to latch onto. These issues are not ideal, but liveable. The real problem arose when the gutter contractor came and pointed out to me that the drain pipe for the down spout was under the staircase and no longer accessible for use. As the porch is next to a cement walkway, there is no good way/place for the downspout to drain. I'm dealing with this, but would have preferred to continue to use the downspout. Never the less, they are nice men, work very hard, and do decent work.

I thought it went very well. Vince came out to our home, and was quick in giving us an estimate that I thought was very fair. He did the work along side of his Father and Brother. They were very good about getting a permit from the Village and following all of the codes, and they were very prompt in coming every day and getting the work done. It took approximately 1 week. They always cleaned up after themselves,no nails left on the driveway or deck.They are very hard workers. I love our new deck and I highly recommend them.

Their professionalism was top notch. They were very oriented towards what we wanted and gave us some creative input on what would be better solutions. They paid incredible attention to detail when they were assembling and constructing the deck.

The quote was for $1600. I will use them again in the future.

Vince was very quick to respond to my request for an estimate. The deck design was based from a photo I copied from an internet site. I specified Brazilian IPE decking and clear cedar railing with IPE railing cap. The railing (but not cap) was painted. The craftsmanship is first rate. It was a pleasure working with Vince. I am a very meticulous person and looked over their shoulders during the work. However, Vince seemed to take my picky nature as a challenge to surpass my highest expectations ? which he did. The cost of my deck was a little expensive due to the decking material that I selected. Vince was one of the lower bidders. You can see photos of my deck on his website ? We could not be happier with the work that Shala Construction did for us. The wood all around our bay window had been rotting and it looked horrible. We had called a few contractors out, but we had different problems or things we didn't like about many of them. Then we had Shala Construction come out to give us an estimate, and we were very pleased with them right from the start and it only got better. They were very careful with all the work that they did and everything looked phenominal when they were done. We had several of our neighbors even make very positive comments on the work they did too. We would definitely use them again and wish we would have found them earlier. They are extremely hard workers and it shows in their final product!

Shala was a reference from an acquaintance, and when we saw their great reports on Angie?s List, we called for an estimate. Vince & his father showed up early, were polite, thorough, and very pleasant to deal with. We received the detailed estimate the following day, as promised, and decided to use them for the job. Throughout the entire process, their communication was excellent, as they only do 1 job at a time, so you?re assured they?re at your project worksite from start to finish. After signing the contract, the materials arrived within 7-10 days and they began the project, arriving promptly the first day at 7:30am. We found some additional items that needed to be taken care of along the way (no insulation behind the old siding, poor construction overall), and Vince gave us his recommendations and options. No pressure, no drama, just forthright information and a ?this is what I would do, to do it right? approach. Once back on track from the side projects required, the construction went very smoothly. They arrived every day on time, worked diligently, and were very personable. Each night, the worksite was cleaned up, with materials stacked together (no mess). They also worked very well with our village?s inspectors to insure that no surprises would pop up, nor unexpected delays. Another thing we really liked ? some little touches that Vince suggested along the way, to make the deck more asthetically-pleasing (new lights / outdoor speaker mounts / special capping of doors & soffits) ? all of which turned out beautifully. Overall, we were very pleased with their work and would highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks much for a job well done!

I found Shala Construction on Angie's list. We were getting several quotes all at once and were having a hard time getting people to actually come out. And if they did come out, we were not impressed. Nothing worse than someone making you feel like YOU are wasting THEIR time. Vince Shala got there when he said he would. He showed up on time and in a company vehicle. He was polite and professional. The quote was very reasonably priced and these guys do EVERYTHING! It's hard to find one contractor that can handle multiple projects at once. The city of Berwyn can be tricky (permit wise) but Vince stuck it out and picked up our permits for us and worked with the city inspector to get everything up to code and done on time. They even repaired an electrical fiasco we had (by no fault of SHALA). We had run electricity right under the window that was being removed to install the door. Unless we wanted conduit running right thru our doorway, we needed a fix and fast. SHALA handled it no problem. They were done in no time and everything looks great. They kept a messy job neat and clean and ALWAYS picked up after themselves. I never had to clean anything other than a little dust that settled here and there. I would use SHALA again, absolutely!

Vince Shala and his brothers did an incredible job true craftsmen and take great pride in their work. They went the extra mile on our job too. The town we live in is super picky about what info they need to issue a permit and wanted extra things done(more detailed drawings, etc.)before they would issue a permit which Vince did with no fussing. Vince and his brothers were professional and pleasant to work with throughout the entire process. Vince got us our estimate promptly. They started the job on time even with the extra work to get the permit. They worked quickly and cleaned up the work site so the only thing left for us to do is enjoy our new deck. The inspection with our town went smoothly. The inspector was so impressed. He said "these guys did an awesome job" and "made his work easy that day." We look forward to working with Shala Construction again soon.

Again, our experience was great. Vince came out and took a look at the job. He asked questions and looked for input on exactly what we wanted built. I had wanted decking that was a special order and he took care of that as well. We had some special features added to our deck and they were able to build it up with ease. I was very pleased with the work. I am a graphic designer so I had spend a good deal of time thinking about the layout of the deck and researching the materials to be used. It was important to me that composite decking material be used. Vince and Nick arrived on time to meet with me to estimate the job. They were open to working with me to achieve my vision how the deck should be laid out. I requested estimates from three contractors. I choose Shala Construction because Vince, Nick and Tony do not subcontract the work out, their price was within the range of the other quotes and they wanted to work with me, not tell me what could and could not be done. During the course of construction we communicated well with each other. They responded quickly to my calls and were patient in answering my questions. Their workmanship was of high quality. They were there when they said they would be there. They complete the work in a timely manner. The final cost was higher the the original estimate but, well in line with the work that I requested to be done.

Shala Construction did a superb job replacing the outside deck of our home. They are truly fine craftsmen, neat and responsible. They were very particular about the material they brought to the job site, worked in an orderly fashion and hauled away all the debris.

I talked to 5 different contractors for this job, and I could not be happier that I went with Shala. First, they do excellent work. They are true craftsman and amazing carpenters. All I gave them was a rough sketch of the deck design, and they brought it to life better than I could've imagined. They even added little ornate details without charging me extra. Second, they were very good at working with me every step of the way. They would confirm what I wanted before starting any new phase, so there were no surprises. Third, their price was extremely fair. They beat all other bids, and they built the deck in cedar! Fourth, they were always prompt and a phone call away. This seems minor, but when this much work is being done to your house, it's scary when your contractor isn't there. Finally, I just really like these guys. Vince, Sal and Tony are very friendly and personable. They are a family business that does not subcontract and only take one job at a time. What more could you ask?

Our basement looks fantastic! They made some great suggestions for the design and I really value their opinions. They also checked in with me on anything that would bring us over budget. They worked on this project as if it were their own basement, and I really appreciate their work. There were no delays on anything and the price was incredibly reasonable.
