+ 0 moreI went downstairs to do laundry and found my water heater sitting in a puddle of water. I discovered the source of the puddle was a steady drip from the overflow pipe. Being relatively new to the area I didn't know a plumber I could rely on to do good work and do it in a time frame convient for me. So I turned to Angie's list. I am so glad I did. I found Empire Plumbing. I gave them a call first thing in the morning. The woman setting the appointments said she could have someone to the house in one to two hours. Kevin was there right on time. He looked it over, gave me an estimate and said he could do it right then and there. In no time at all the valve was replaced and no more leak. Kevin was professional and polite. He was kind enough to put shoe covers on so he would not track anything onto my floors. There was a light dusting of snow that morning and he didn't want to get my floors wet. Overall this was an awesome first time experience with Empire and with Angie's list.
Description of Work: Replaced the temperature and pressure relief valve on the water heater.

+ -1 moreMy mother always dreads working with a contractor so finding her someone is always a nerve wracking experience. Finding Empire was a godsend. The employees at Empire put my mother totally at ease. Kevin came right out to give her an estimate arriving exactly when he said he would. He itemized the estimate for her so she knew exactly what work was being done and she was paying for along with giving her a senior citizen discount. He accommmodated her schedule, and called the day before the job to confirm the appointment and to find out what time he could start working in the morning. It was an all day project. When he broke for lunch, he told her how long he would be and came back on time. After he finished working, Kevin walked my mother through everything so she saw everything was done and working properly. Through-out, he was totally professional and considerate and the best part of all, the pipes looked great, the faucets beautiful. The biggest praise of all. My mother had not one complaint and said if she had known Kevin before, she would never have gone so long with leaky pipes.
Description of Work: The pipes in my mother's home were almost 60 years old and leaking horribly. All horizontal pipes were replaced, a leaking vertical pipes was repaired and new faucets put in the kitchen & bathroom.

+ -1 moreOverall the job went very well, Kevin was in and out in no time (approx. 1 hour). He is a very polite and professional. See above for detailed description of the job. I graded the price as a "B" - this grade compensates the labor cost which was somewhat less than other quotes I received. I did use the coupon, saving $25.00.
Description of Work: Kevin called me, listened to my problem, gave a recommendation and specs for a sump pump assessing the usage of the pump, age of the home, etc, with a quote. I didn't give consent for Kevin to come at that time but after assessing other plummers, cost, knowledge - I decided to call Kevin back. He came the same day, tried several ways to see if the pump would start, also checking the fuse (I do have the more modern "fuse" thing, lost of word), removed the old basic Hydrolic Sump Pump (5yrs old) which was inadequate for my needs since I use the washer (lint travelling through drain line, clogging sump pump). The Zoller pump provided the 1/2 inch drain outlet needed for the lint (Kevin also went over other specs the Zoller pump had). Kevin also installed a new switch in the PV pipe which sucks the water into the main pipe. He supported the PV pipe and taped the hole on the cover upon my request. You know the old adage; an educated consumer, is a wise consumer - and I felt this way after my experience with Kevin. The Zoller pump has an 18 mos warranty; however I was given a 2 yr warranty on the sump pump from the company. Last but not least, he cleaned the area afterwards.

+ -1 moreI made an appointment and they gave me a one hour window (8am to 9am) of when to expect someone to show up. The gentleman showed up about 10 minutes after 8, assessed the problem and suggested a course of action and quoted me a price. He brought his machine in and successfully rodded the drain. When he finished he washed some of the backed up debris down the drain for me. He gave me a written guarantee for a free re-rodding if the drain backed up again within 3 months. He suggested that if I continued to have problems with the drain that he recommended we run a camera down the drain and gave me a quote. He was never pushy about performing any additional services. I guarantee that if I have to have a plumber back I will not hesitate to call Empire. Great company.

+ 1 moreKevin was nice, clean, and definitely not pushy when it come to selling more services. When the temporary fix stopped working the next day he came right back out and fixed it... no charge. I have had no more problems. I will definitely be using Empire plumbing again. Also their website has a coupon for $25 off a service call, and $100 off a sewer repair.
Description of Work: Came in for a floor drain backing up. Turns out the problem is much worse than I thought. Kevin did a temporary fix (the float on our sump was coming loose), then gave me a quote for a permanent fix.

+ -1 moreCame home one day to find a minor flood in my laundry room, after allowing item to soak in sink for approx 12hrs. After cleaning up the mess, and running the water, nothing appeared to be leaking, but i wanted it checked out. I was able to easily make an appt on the day that worked best for me, and the plumber arrived right on time. He, too, could not initially find the source of the leak. We agreed to fill up the sink and let it sit for several hours, and I would call the office back if the leak re-occurred. He charged me nothing at that point!!! That was awesome! Sure enough, the leaking started after the sink was left full for about 90min. I called, and he came back several hours later, after finishing another job. Changing the gasket took about 10min, and $135 seems pricey for that. But not out of the range of plumbers in general...it's always expensive! And given there was no charge until there was actually work done, will ensure that I will definitely think of calling them again if needed in the future.

+ 0 moreWater heater went out on a Saturday evening, no contractor I called would come out. I called left a msg. and they called back in 10 minutes. Said he would have someone there within 2 hours. He came showed me that tank was shot and needed to be replaced. They installed and cleaned all the mess up from the leaking tank. I had hot water in two hours. Great job prompt, and knowledgeable. I showed him another plumbing issue and fixed at know charge. I highly recommend and will use again.
