Called Empire because there was a rotten egg smell emanating whenever turned on the hot water. They came out the next day right within the hour window they had stated for an arrival time. They checked over the water heater and related plumbing to find out what was going on to cause this problem. Determined the odor was coming from the water softener and put it on bypass mode. After filling the tub several times, to empty out the water heater, problem solved.
Description of Work: Upon arrival both men put on booties before entering the house. They checked both the water heater, water softener, and related plumbing to figure out where the rotten egg smell was coming from. (It had been suggested to me by someone else that the anode in the water heater needed to be replaced). Checking the water softener, it was quite empty of salt and I couldn't remember specifically when I had last put some in it. He put the softener on bypass mode ( stated that with the improvements that my town-Joliet- has made to its water supply that the water softener was not really necessary anymore) and suggested that i run and fill the tub up several times to empty out and refill water heater. Wow, that took care of the smell.

It was flawless and smooth. Couldn't have been any better!
Description of Work: I called about a week and a half before I actually had the new kitchen faucet installed. I spoke to Steve and he was very helpful in answering my questions and suggesting certain brand names with quality reputations. I ultimately purchased a very nice Delta high arc single hole kitchen faucet w/sprayer head from Lowes (online). Called Empire back and Steve was able to come out in a couple of days to install it. He was punctual and very professional. He took his time to remove the old and installed our beautiful new faucet. He honored the verbal estimate he gave me on the phone the week or so prior citing that due to the fact I had a newer home and there was not any major hiccups along the way other than needing to remove the disposal. He did say that because it was relatively straightforward they stick with their verbal prices. We used the $25 dollar off labor coupon from Angie's List and he installed it for $150 net. I called Lowes to see what they charge to send a plumber out to install since I bought from them and they said $150. So I came out no worse on price. Quality experience with Empire and I would use them again without hesitation.

We have had constant problems with an outdoor spigot. Our prior plumbing company would be called every few years to come and "fix" the problem. And we'd pay them each time. I found Empire on Angie's List and called them instead. They were prompt and within a few moments had the problem "fixed". That is to say that they turned the spigot on and off several times until the water started flowing. Then explained that there is a long spring inside that many times will get stuck over the winter. Turning it on and off over and over loosens the spring. Then they said the best news ever - "No charge. Just be sure to call us next time you need a plumber". Believe me, we will.

Excellent service! The plumber arrived right on time. After inspecting the existing setup, he clearly explaiend the problem. He quoted a price at that point, and left to get the necessary material. He returned in less than an hour, and completed the job within forty-five minutes. It was a tricky bit of work, with very tight clearances under the sink. The end result completely met our expectations. We could not be more pleased with the response, the quality of the work, and the price.
Description of Work: Replaced a faIled garbage disposal. Replacement required repiping some faulty existing drains.

They did a great job and I love them. They are the best plumber I've ever found. The owner takes the time to explain the problem and what caused it and what he is going to do to fix it. He is very honest and upfront with the time it will take to complete the repair. He is the best plumber I've found and I am so happy with him. The original quote was $350 and the final cost was $275 because he gave me a discount for being a regular customer.

Our experience with Empire Plumbing was phenomenal! Empire Plumbing provided same-day service and the price was reasonable. Mr. Suarez was very professional, polite, and even spoke to the home warranty company to explain the problem. After Mr. Suarez rooted the main drainage system, he did a great job cleaning up afterward and checking all toilets to verify that the pipes were cleared. We will definitely use Empire Plumbing again! Thanks, Mr. Suarez!
Description of Work: The seller of our new home provided a one-year home warranty. We had flushing problems with two of the three brand new low-flow toilets. The home warranty company sent one plumbing company to fix the flushing problems twice. On the second visit (which was a Saturday) the plumber fixed Toilet 1, told us the low-flow toilets were crap, and left. Two hours later, we discovered Toilet 3 had backed up and overflowed, and there was sewage everywhere! The home warranty company could not find a plumbing company to fix our problem on a Saturday evening or on Sunday. We could not use any toilet in the house for fear of overflowing Toilet 3. Consequently, we had to use the bathrooms at McDonalds from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. On Sunday morning, we called Empire Plumbing and Mr. Steve Suarez was AWESOME! Mr. Suarez came out the same day and explained that it was not the new toilets, but was probably roots in the main drainage system. Mr. Suarez rooted the drain system and fixed our problem on short notice. Empire Plumbing saved the day! We were even able to use Empire's coupon from Angie's List.

Making contact with Empire was easy. I talked with Gabby on the phone the first time I called and briefly described what I needed. She relayed the message to a plumber who called me back within hours. He gave me a price over the phone based on the work I needed done. Timing was tricky. The counter top guys came later than I was told, but Kevin came when asked. He was able to work on the kitchen sink and upstairs shower. Then there was a lull, waiting for the counter tops to be installed in each of the bathrooms. Kevin was able to arrange his schedule to be back when the job was ready to continue. Basically the project took a full day to complete. I was charged for the job, not by the clock. The next day, there was a very tiny leak (I'm talking teaspoons, not buckets) in one of the master bath's sinks. I called Gabby, and Kevin came back the next day to make the adjustment for no charge. A few days later, my boys complained the water in the upstairs shower wasn't hot enough, so I called Gabby again. No problem. Kevin came when I was available, and made the adjustment in a few minutes. There's plenty of hot water now, and no other issues. Kevin couldn't have been nicer about coming back. Both Gabby and Kevin were polite and responsive. They gave me everything I asked for to my satisfaction at a very fair price. However, the one thing that surprised me was no uniform or marked truck. That certainly didn't matter as far as the quality of the work or service, and probably keeps costs down, but I could see another person might be off put by the lack of a "brand." The other quote I had was for a plumber the counter top guy suggested, but was $200 more. For $200 less and a job well done, casual ware worked just fine for me!
Description of Work: I replaced counter tops in three bathrooms, including the master bath that has a double sink. I needed a plumber to install the new faucets on the same day the counter tops were being installed. At the same time, I also replaced the shower head and faucet in the upstairs bath and the faucet in the kitchen sink.

Excellent service. I called around 8:15 to request a plumber to unclog my kitchen sink. They told me how much it would cost and that they could have someone there between 9:00 and 10:00. By 10:45 the job was done, and they also investigated why it was always wet in the cabinet under my sink. My disposal was cracked, and had probably been installed that way 9 years ago. They gave me an estimate to replace it. The final cost was what they quoted me over the phone, less the $25 Angie's List coupon. I don't know how the cost compares to other plumbers because I didn't call anybody else.

Kevin arrived a few minutes before our scheduled appointment and was standing at my door when I returned home. He assesed the locations of the drains and the main pipe and what the best method of accessing the basement with his equipment. We discussed what needed to be done and he went about getting the equipment into the house. I left him alone to do the work and within the hour he had completed routing the drain. I asked if he would be willing to give me an estimate on some additional work I would like done in the spring and he was very helpful in providing me with the information I needed to decide what needed to be done with the kitchen sink. He packed up and was on his way at the one hour mark. Great speedy service

FANTASTIC. I called and talked to June, who was super-nice. I explained that I'm in nursing school and I had a test at 2pm that I could NOT miss. They were booked all day, but she managed to get a fabulous plumber to my home that morning AND called in advance to give me time to lock up my dogs. He took his shoes off before walking across my white carpet and was very consciencous about cleaning the floor underneath the toilet before putting the new wax ring in and replacing the toilet. As someone who has previously used the BBB to find a plumber (and had her engagement ring "disappear" when the UNLICENSED plumber with a rap sheet came into the home), I will GLADLY USE these guys AND Angie's list again in the future. Thank you, Empire, for your promptness, your attention to detail, and for your high-quality services. You set a high standard for your profession.

When I started doing laundry on Friday evening, my husband was in the laundry room and noticed a sewer smell. We called Empire to schedule someone to come out to check out any issues (hoping it wasn't the sewer line backing into the house). They said they could come out Saturday between 10 and 11am. At 10:01am my doorbell rang. The gentleman who came was pleasant and checked out the problem, which was that the ejector (sewage) pit was open and shouldn't be. Also, some of the pipes installed weren't the correct size. He fixed what he could without ripping down walls (which we didn't want done). We also had some issues with pipes banging in the basement when we'd do dishes or drain my daughter's bathtub, and he realized that when the basement was finished, they hadn't secured the pipes or cushioned them, so every time water flowed through them, they banged against the wall/ceiling. He fixed that as well. My only complaint is that when taking down a section of drop ceiling (which was not installed well) he didn't seem to care that he was getting parts of it in my spinning fiber. And he didn't clean up the mess from it. However, that is a very minor complaint because he worked quickly and efficiently and I would hire them again for any plumbing issues.
Description of Work: Drilled new anchors for and caulked pipes and sealed off an open ejector pit in laundry room in basement. Also re-piped a section of line that was the wrong size. Secured some pipe lengths that banged against basement walls when water ran through.

It went great. The gentleman from Empire was on-time, answered all of my questions, gave me a couple estimates and replaced my spigots. The estimate he gave for doing the work on the spigots seemed a bit high before he started, but they bid per job, not per hour and I think that worked out in my favor in the end. I had considered doing the work myself but after seeing some of the trouble he ran into from the way my builder piped the spigots I'm glad I didn't. I'd definitely use Empire again in the future.

I noticed water on the floor of my basement under my water heater. I called Empire and they came out within 2 hours. They discovered the tank had a hole in it. Overall, it was a very good experience. We recently purchased a 100-year old home that has not been updated or maintained for the last several years. We were aware that there were plumbing issues when we bought the home but did not know what the extent of the problems were. Steve came out when we noticed two of the toilets were leaking and that a sink in one of the baths would not drain. He reset the toilets and tried to rod the drain without luck. He would up having to cut some of the pipe and put new pipe in. In all, he spent approximately 8 hours at our home. He did not leave until the problem was solved and he cleaned up after himself. Steve also provided us with very sound recommendations for some of the other plumbing work we know will need to be done and we will definitely call Empire to do the work.

Are you sure it was Empire Plumbing who you called? Customers often call multiple companies for service and get confused on which ones which. We have that happen alot where customers (who just dialed us) ask us which company they are calling. But as a company any missed call is a missed relationship and that is unacceptable. We will be researching this matter, because we value our customers and their input.

My sewer line sheared off last weekend. I had been getting prices in the $1800-$3000 range to dig up the bad pipe, cut out the bad section, replace the bad pipe, add a cleanout, bed the pipe in 6" of gravel and backfill. I called Empire for a quote Monday morning. They were onsite Monday afternoon and the guy was VERY VERY straightforward and dispelled some of the BS that another plumber was giving me. Empire saw that I had already dug 1/2 the required hole. With this in mind, they quoted me $375 to perform the pipe work, if I did the digging and backfill. I thought this was more than fair considering the parts alone to fix it actually cost me $150. Just as important as the flexible pricing structure Empire offered was the straight advice. I mentioned that another plumber (Cal-Sag) had told me the 12" of pipe sticking out of the house wasn't long enough to connect to and "wouldn't pass inspection". Cal-Sag wanted to run a new pipe through the foundation wall, driving the cost up an additional $400. The Empire guy told me that was a scare tactic to get me money out of me. Turns out Empire was right. I called the local inspector and he said 12" was plenty long. A+++ for Empire's honesty! In the end, I did the entire project myself by renting a small backhoe and buying the parts at Meyer's (local plumbing house in Crest Hill) for a $450.
