+ -1 moreI paid them with a cashier's check, and within a week I received a refund for the overpayment for the check I had made out for $1000. The original estimate was for five hours, but I didn't believe that her estimate was correct so I made out the check for more. She had to charge me for some packing material, and that was much less than the other people had charged. Her estimate was correct and the whole thing ended up being $815, which was much less than I had ever paid before. This was the first time any moving company had sent four men. They don't charge more regardless of how many workers they send.
Description of Work: They arrived promptly at 10 o'clock. The coordinator, Ilanit, she originally scheduled for the movers to come at 8AM, and a few weeks later I mentioned to her that the elevator would not be available until noon. I thought nothing of it because my last two movers took more than 4 hours to move me to the truck. She said she didn't think it would take them more than 2 hours to move them into the truck and didn't want me spending money for nothing, so she immediately rescheduled for them to come at 10. Sure enough, they were finished moving into the truck at noon. They moved me from a large apartment to a small 1-bedroom apartment. They had to be told which things were going and which things were not going. I only had to tell them once and never had to mention it again, they just knew what to do. There were lamps and artwork that I left for them to pack, they did that. There were two or three large pieces of furniture as well. They didn't damage anything at all. They had to move things down a rather narrow flight of stairs. Then once we got to the new place I only told them once where to put everything and they did it without asking another question. They even put things into places where it didn't seem like they were going to be able to do it. They put a filing cabinet into one of the closest, a very tight squeeze. Then I had two very large mirrored cabinets, and they placed them perfectly next to each other against the wall, and I didn't even tell them how I wanted it, and it was perfectly placed. There were four men that were assigned, and all of them were very cordial and polite; they were very professional and well trained. The senior mover explained everything to the other three, and he also did the packing of the more difficult and expensive pieces. He did his fair share of the labor. + -1 moreThey arrived on time with 5 men. While I was rushed through the pricing by the foreman who did not speak fluent English, making parts difficult to follow, it was relatively straight forward. They were efficient, quick and very considerate of items. They were in and out of the apartment in 1 hour. They were quick and efficient loading in as well. There were a few scuffs and scrapes to wall / floors but nothing disastrous and to be expected. Final pricing was, again, explained quickly but straight forward. While I have not fully unpacked all items seemed to have made the journey without damage.
Description of Work: I was moved from a third floor apartment the third floor of a new construction condo. Items I did not box or wrap were wrapped / taped / boxed.

+ -1 moreThe moving job was complicated by the fact that we had two houses and we were moving into one. The house we were moving to was larger but not large enough to accomodate all the stuff from two homes. The job took place over 4 days, packing house 1 on day one, moving the next, packing house 2 on day three and moving the next. There was a lot of packing involved in the move, and I think that is what contributed to the final cost being higher than the estimate. Since it was a large job, we were given 20 free boxes for each house, but even so, we used hundreds of boxes. The amount of packing material boggles my mind. We filled the new house with boxes, and we are still unpacking a month later. I must say that the company did an excellent job. Not one thing was broken in the move! All items are accounted for. The crew that did our move were very careful and extremely fast. The crew leader was professional and responsive to any special requests during the move. Artwork and antiques were given special care so they were not damaged. We had a very good experience with this company.
Description of Work: Moved two households (single family homes) into one larger house. Involved both packing and moving.

+ -1 moreThese guys were incredible. We have SO much stuff, I was worried about it not fitting on the truck. Santiago assured me all was well, and it was. they even had room to spare on the truck. They wrapped everything, which I didn't mind because it was helping our valuables stay in one piece. They were done packing the truck (near 100 boxes, a couch, loveseat, huge armoire, king bed, crib, dresser and dining room set, in less then three hours. The final price was cheaper then the pseudo quote I got from Jerry, which was a lovely surprise. Would recommend to anyone, thanks USA.

I called them at 4PM on New Year?s Eve and they were there the next day @ 9AM. Truck and Labor rates were fare, but the charges for boxes, tape, and moving blankets were ridiculously high..
Description of Work: Packed and moved a majority of my homes contents and moved it to a temporary apartment and storage space. And again from a temporary apartment to a temporary house a month afterwards.

+ -1 moreMy wife and I were moving from her 2 brdrm condo into a temporary 1 brdm and putting the overflow into a storage locker. I got a quote from USA and another company and they were the lowest. The team of 4 guys showed up right on time and got right to work. They were very careful with all of our stuff and packed up everything so that certain things could easily be unloaded from the truck to the storage locker and then on to the new apartment. The guys were great about getting the storage locker packed efficiently and were able to get everything in there (saving us from having to rent a second locker). They then moved us to our new apartment on the 29th floor of our temp building. The team was great. They worked quickly and carefully. My only complaint was that they wrapped several of our items before loading them on the truck. They were very liberal with the wrapping tape and stuff, which you then get charged for. I spent a lot of money on tape, etc. that day. But, overall I am very happy with USA. I am going to call them again for the move out of the apartment and the only difference is that I will make sure I have plenty of tape purchased ahead of time for them to use.
Description of Work: Moving the contents of a 2 bedroom apartment into a storage locker and my wife and I and the remaining items into a temporary 1 bedroom in a high rise downtown.

+ -1 moreUSA exceeded our expectations from beginning to end. The 4-man team arrived early and immediately helped us finishing the packing (they came with lots of extra boxes, tape, etc.). They took apart our bed, bar, and other items and took extreme care in wrapping our furniture. I was struck both by how hardworking and how efficient they were. They had a pretty slick system for unloading the apartment and packing the truck. The 2nd leg of the move was also issue-free. They never stopped working and got the truck unpacked with killer efficiency. Overall, the move was quicker and more efficient-than-expected and with not a single damaged item.
Description of Work: USA Moving & Storage moved us from a 2BR condo in Lincoln Square to a SFH in North Center. We packed most of our boxes, but USA helped us finish the packing.

I had a 4-person team and I have some expensive pieces of furniture and there was not a mark on anything. They were quick, energetic, professional, organized, effecient, and meticulous. I will absolutely use this company again.
Description of Work: I hired USA moving and storage to handle a move from 2nd floor walk up to a highrise. I have some very large pieces of furniture as well as some very expensive glass tables that usually have to be put in custom wooden crates for cross-country moves. Although I was only moving a mile away, I was concerned but they did an AMAZING job in the way they wrapped each piece of furniture and also created custom packaging for my glass top tables using cardboard and wrapping materials. I wanted to take a picture of it because it was so perfect.

They thoroughly wrapped and protected all of our furniture, mirrors, etc. Not a single item was broken or damaged in any way! They also conformed to the condo association rule regarding only bringing furniture up the back (narrow!) stairway. They managed to maneuver all our large furniture without causing any damage to our things or the stairway....and we are located on the third floor!

I would have had to pay for at least one hour of wait time from 8-9 AM since they MUST start moves at 8 AM but neither apartment/condo building allow moves to start before 9 AM. I understand they're trying to run a business but flexibility is something they are most definitely lacking.

+ -1 moreWe called to schedule a medium sized local move about ten days a head. The company offered 15 new, good quality moving boxes for free. We picked these up while running errands from their office. We actually had to reschedule the move two days before and they were quite accommodating. Four movers showed up five minutes early and actually phoned from outside to make sure it was ok to start. The workers were fast and careful. They had no problem using our shrink wrap and tape. There were no mishaps and the price was fair. We've done half a dozen small local moves in the last 15 years and this experience was easily the best.
Description of Work: Moved our belongings and furniture from second floor of a two flat to our home about 5 miles away. Four movers took just under four hours to complete the work

Not only did they move quickly, but nothing was broken or lost. I would hire these fellows again in an instant.

We paid no travel fee, as the company only requires a minimal truck fee. The guys showed up promptly and had us moved in three hours. They also asked where we wanted everything in the new house, and even put together our bed, arranged our furniture, and unrolled our rugs. They were very clean, and left no wrapping or tape behind-inside or out. We were so pleased with our experience because the last time we used movers, we only had three guys, and one talked so much that the job took five hours. The guys from USA Moving & Storage showed up to work, and got the job done fast. I will use them again.

+ -1 moreWe used Javier and his crew and they were FANTASTIC. I dont think Ive ever said that about a moving crew before. These guys were practically magic. I dont know how they pulled this off, but they managed to move all kinds of stuff into ALL FIVE floors of our new house, up and down these really windy and narrow corridors, and they didnt put a single mark on a single wall. Thats why we called them back a couple of weeks later to get our stuff out of storage. Once again, they were great. I cant understate the five-story issue. These guys had to move a lot of heavy stuff to the top floors, without use of an elevator, and they were absolutely pleasant, absolutely game, and absolutely professional. I didnt hear a single moan or complaint. Everything they packed for us was also very well done. Not a single casualty. Thats a first for any move Ive ever had!! Again, I cant say enough about these guys.

+ -1 morePhone estimate was good, but not perfect. It is understandable that an accurate estimate is nearly impossible since the moving process is not a perfect system. We did get detailed costs for material, time, etc. and an estimated time to move items listed. I used all these to determine my cost estimate. I was a few hundred dollars off, so it's possible. Everyone I spoke with was great, friendly and fully understood our needs. Day one included packing and wrapping everything in our condo. Other then the large amount of paper used (more about that later), the packing was perfect. They wrapped everything with extreme care. Day two - moved all items. They recommended a second truck to expedite the time, which was correct. That cost a little more, but well worth it in saving a few hours of labor cost. I appreciated the fact that they explained the cost benefit in a shorter move time vs additional truck/personnel. Movers asked for location for items if not labeled. They put in exact spots. The amount of paper seemed excessive, until we finished unpacking everything. There was not a single broken item. From large furniture, to delicate wine glasses, to large screen tv - nothing was even scratched. Well worth the amount of wrapping paper. We kept most to reuse in future moves to both save cost and material wasted. Great job USA movers. Thank you for taking the care of our belongings. We will never use any other movers..... Thank you.

+ -1 moreIt went very well overall. They arrived on time. They quickly removed all of the boxes I had prepacked. They had no problems with the boxes full of books. There was supposed to be four workers, but only three showed up. To make up for this, they decreased the hourly rate from $124 to $100. They moved very quickly yet were very careful. All furniture was wrapped in blankets and tape. Some pieces required disassembly, which they did skillfully. They even removed a door to get a desk out of the bedroom. I was not moving everything and they were careful to ask what should be packed and moved. When we arrived at the new condo, they unpacked the truck quickly. They asked me where I wanted each item to go. They reassembled furniture as necessary. They were extremely careful not to lose any screws or connectors. They finished in four hours and forty five minutes. The bill that was presented to me was within a few dollars of the estimate. Overall, they did a great job and I would hire them again. I have also recommended them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Moved contents of a one bedroom condo to another condo one mile away. Both buildings had elevators.

+ -1 moreWe hired USA Moving and Storage in January, 2009, based on recommendations in Angie?s List, and we could not be more pleased. USA moved us from the Chicago suburbs to southwestern lower Michigan 30 days later. They kept our belongings in storage in the interim. You will be dealing with Jerry Zaff at USA, and he makes sure everything goes perfectly, from initial estimate, to move out, storage (if necessary), and then to our move in. We found USA?s estimating to be extremely accurate and their prices to be very competitive. It is hard to put into words how hard and diligently the USA men worked and what a good, careful job they did. Everything is padded and taped. Our furniture, computers, televisions, and boxed materials were all handled with extreme care and delivered with maybe three chips (our fault in packing). The USA men frequently asked us how we wanted this or that handled when it wasn?t obvious, and we took their suggestions. We were especially pleased that they were on time -- both to move us out as well as being right on time meeting us at our new home 100 miles away. This company is miles ahead of its competitors. There are none of the practices we were worried about: No low-balling of estimates, no raising the price in the driveway before delivery, and no pressure to buy extra insurance on our belongings. We want everyone to know how pleasant and professional it is to deal with Jerry Zaff and what a good company USA Moving and Storage is.
Description of Work: They moved us out of our condo, stored our things for about 30 days, and moved us into a single family home 100 miles away.

+ -1 more4 men did the move in 3 hours. I purchased 2 dish packing kits and 2 glass packing kits ($8 each) when I went to their Skokie office to pick up 15 free boxes. The china and crystal arrived intact. They used padding on the furniture and nothing was scratched. It was $124 per hour, $124 for the truck, $32 for the packing kits, $40 for lots of tape ($2.50 a roll) and $24 for some boxes used to secure special furniture. The total was $592. I gave the men a good tip because they deserved it for a job well done.
Description of Work: Moved furniture and boxes from one house to another house 25 miles away. It was half a houseful of furniture.
