We bought a remodeled home from this builder. He was half way through the remodel when we made an offer based on what we believed would be a high end home with high end finishes that would be finished in May 2016. He allowed us to move in early because he promised it would be finished in May as we were waiting on the kitchen cabinets to be installed as the last piece of work before it was done. Well, May promises turned in to June promises, which turned into July and August promises before we decided enough was enough. We finally drew a line in the sand and said he needed to have everything finished by August 24th if he wanted to close and he agreed. Well, as usual, Al promised he'd have everything done and he failed again on the 24th even though he promised to be there that day to finish the remaining items on the punch list. On the day of the closing we decided we no longer wanted him in our house as the owner and closed anyway with a lengthy punch list that had to be completed with 21 days of closing. To no surprise, he was going to start the following week until I asked for insurance paperwork for his guys that were coming on to my property. He could not provide proof of insurance paperwork for two weeks until one of his other contractors agreed to cover them and provided the paperwork. In the final week, his guys did do some work, but failed to get everything done as promised, yet again. Rather than living up to our signed agreement at closing, he did not release the funds he owed for not completing the punch list. Instead, we have to go to court to show pictures of an unpainted powder room, jagged tile work in the kitchen along all edges, missing bathroom lights and a mirror sitting on the floor, a huge spot in the middle of our back deck where his guys painted the second coat around my grill. To his standards, he thinks that is a completed punch list. The attached pictures show what he deems as reasonably finished as the reason for not paying us our closing escrow money by not finishing the punch list items on time. Had we known back in April, what we know now, we would not have done business with this guy. We hope this forces people to get more references on this builder. I would be happy to share more details on our horrible experience with guy. On the positive side: 1) Fantastic cabinets from Seneca Cabinetry in kitchen and all bathrooms, except powder room 2) was able to refinish some of the old flooring beautifully 3) all of the additional work we asked him to do was quoted with reasonable pricing, but beware (and you can ask my neighbors) he hardly ever completed the work when he said he was going to.
Description of Work: The whole house was redone from basement to attic as well as the garage.

My husband and I hired AHM Builders to build our addition on our house in La Grange. Al Moskiewicz, the owner of AHM, is very pleasant, personable, and creative. We hired Al because of his vision for our project and previous reputation for successfully building nice additions on Georgian homes in La Grange. Al though would benefit from hiring a strong project manager because Al lacks the following skills: There was no control of the scheduling and coordination of his sub-contractors. The sequence of construction was inefficient and led to substantial delays. We were told that our project would be completed in 5 months and it took more than double the time to complete. The cold weather conditions over the winter of 2013-2014 did play a factor in the delays, however, there was an identical project that started the same week as ours located one block away (the builder was Niego Construction) that finished 4 months before our project. Lack of jobsite cleanliness (lack of dumpsters and port-a-pot). Inaccurate invoicing such as billing us extra for items that were included with our contract, billing us for items that we ourselves actually paid for, and over estimating the percent complete on key milestone draw requests from the bank. The impacts that his lack of skills had on our family were as follows: The added duration made it necessary for my husband and I to manage Al's schedule. We kept a posted list in the house of open tasks for his subs to see. We crossed off items as they were then completed. We both missed several weeks of work to watch over the construction. We had 2 feet of water in the basement 6 months into the project since we were unprotected - we did not have backfill around the foundation, no electric and therefore no power to the sump pumps, and lastly no gutters. Our neighbors were negatively impacted by construction materials and debris. The delays we experienced doubled our temporary housing costs. Legal costs were also incurred to close out the project.
Description of Work: AHM was the General Contractor for our Home Addition.

I hired this general contractor and the time frame of construction is horrendous! It was supposed to be a 3-4 month build and it has taken 13 months and make take 6 more months. I might recommend him for small jobs but, not for a full rebuild. We had the whole house taken down to the foundation and studs. He is just not equipped to do a full construction rebuild'. Recently I was censured by the inspector because the job has taken so long, but they were kind enough to extend the permit for 1 more week. The contractor over looked the 12 month deadline, so now my permit is currently in review for extension. Be advised this contractor will cut corners at every opportunity.
Description of Work: He rebuilt my home from the studs up.
