Description of Work: I explained on the phone that we had a recurring minor mold problem in the master bath. He agreed to come over and do an inspection, for no charge. He came on time, looked everything over and told us what to do. He said that if we still had a problem after doing what he said that he'd come back and fix it. One of the items was to get a dehumidifier, which I'd never done. I called him on Saturday morning with questions and he answered. I would definitely hire Jim if I ever need some mold remediation.

See above. I was pleased with the work they performed. They were sympathetic, caring and completely professional.
Description of Work: While I was out of town, my area experienced heavy rains. This results in sewer back-up into my basement. My finished basement needed to be ripped out (panelling, drywall, trim, shelving, tile, bathroom...). Colleen talked to be, explaining what would happen in detail. Jim came out the next day to survey the damage and go over what would need to be done. They gave me a detailed estimate plus information about the product they would use to kill and prevent further mold growth on the foundation walls. The next day his crew came with him to start the process. They removed all our belongings from the basement, safely bagging them so we could determine what do keep and what to toss. Anything destroyed/infected by the water was bagged separately and taken away. The task took over three days to complete. The crew was courteous and pleasant, answering all my questions. They even helped to make room for our possessions to be stored in my garage. A very hard working bunch of individuals. Communications were excellent with the office.

They gave me a great price and did great on the mold and water remediation. It takes about 4 days to do it. They have large machines that run to dry things out. The owner, even though it was on a Saturday or Sunday, would call and want to come out and take some readings to check on the progress.

Overall it was excellent from start to finish. The owners and crew not only remediated my house, but they also alleviated the stress I was feeling.
Description of Work: This company gave me the best estimate and time schedule to perform their services. Their crew was fast, efficient and helpful. The crew and owners extended themselves, doing extras: cutting mold out of my garage ceiling at no extra charge, letting me use the dumpster for 3 extra days and giving the name of a reliable construction company to help me rebuild my basement. They were wonderful. Colleen was efficient and showed a lot of care and respect. I highly recommend them.

Came in a week after our basement flooded from a sunp-pump backup. Water was already cleaned up but basement was starting to mildew because drywall still had water wicked up it. Jim set up 8 fans and 2 dehumidifiers for a week. When mildew smell was still present, he set up air scrubbers at no additional charge. This company is professional, responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Description of Work: My husband ai were selling an investment property and the home inspection revealed "organic growth" in the attic space. I called Structure dry and they came out immediately to inspect and put together a proposal. We were on a tight time constraint due to a quick closing date. They did the job quickly and satisfactorily. When I called with questions regarding one of the procedures, the owner went out to check the work and reported back to me within 48 hours.

After our condo association roof started leaking this last winter we finally got it repaired in April and had a mold hygienist out to test. I called four mold remediation companies to come out and structure dry was the first to respond. After getting all quotes back we went with Structure Dry because of the price and reputation on Angies list and are very glad we did. As mentioned above the coordination aspect is overlooked but is a very valuable value added service. The repairs went relatively smoothly with minor delays caused by owners, insurance companies and testing but through it all Structure Dry was very professional and helped push it through to completion.
Description of Work: I would whole heartedly recommend structure dry without any reservation. As president of a small condo association I needed to have several units remediated. I got four quotes and Structure dry was very competitive and very well regarded on Angies list. Structure Dry did an excellent job of balancing the need to get all the mold with also minimizing the amount of repair that would be needed afterwards. The team was very competent and knowledgeable. They acted quickly and were very easy to work with. One overlooked issue in mold remediation is the coordination effort. As you can imagine trying to coordinate the repairs with five different owners as well as duct cleaning, testing and keeping the drywall reconstruction team informed gets very time consuming and complicated. The whole team at Structure Dry made this take much easier and less painful. Colleen was relentless in making sure the schedule was kept as much as possible by all parties involved while also understanding that we had to work with each owners schedule as much as possible. The on site team was courteous and consciences.

Our roof started leaking from extreme weather conditions here in Chicago. We had ice then snow with freezing temperatures and then it completely warmed up to 60 degrees. The roof and gutters could not handle the quick melting and we had water come in through light fixtures, exhaust fans, speakers and eventually dry wall. The water came in through the top level and soaked the carpets and then eventually came to the main level where it "rained" in our dining room and living room for about 20 hours. We called Structure Dry and they were VERY professional and able to come to our home within 3-4 hours. They immediately pulled 30 gallons of water out of our carpets and set up dehumidifiers and fans to finish drying out the floors, walls and ceilings. They recommended leaving the equipment going for 3 days during which time we re-located to a hotel. The owner of Structure Dry came with his team to do the initial clean-up and also to pick up the equipment and inspect the final result. He was so kind and so assuring that everything would be okay. He has been in the water business for over 20 years and you could tell he knew what he was talking about. We felt that our home was in very good hands. Meanwhile, his wife - the other owner - called us every day to check in and give us a status update. She handled all of the paperwork and took care of direct billing with our insurance company. She also put us at ease and assured us that everything would get back to normal. We learned from Structure Dry throughout this whole ordeal that the most important thing you do is get everything dry. Once everything is dry, the damage stops and no mold can grow. After it is dry, you can start getting contractors and insurance adjusters in to assess the damage and start the repair. Getting Structure Dry in immediately was the best move we made and we are so thrilled that we ended up with such a competent team doing the work for us. We can't say enough good things about Structure Dry. We hope that no one else ever ends up in our shoes with a leaky roof but if it happens, this is the right company to call.
Description of Work: Structure Dry came in and used their industrial equipment to remove water from our home after our roof leaked. They left professional dehumidifiers and industrial fans in our home for 3 days to dry everything out and prevent mold from growing. They took pictures upon arriving and created a disk for us and submitted a disk along with all the billing to our insurance company. They took care of everything!

This company was timely, and responsive from the moment I contacted them until the job was completed. They arrived when they said they would and finished the job on time. They left the area clean. They also recommended a carpenter that could rebuild the wall and a fix the roof line that was allowing the water into house. For a less the happy problem in our home. The good people made this job as pleasant as possible.

I spoke with Colleen, who was friendly and professional. Understandably, she was swamped with calls from other flood victims. She was not able to get back to me, with a quote when she told me she would, but again, I understand this given the chaotic situation. I went with another company, but would consider using them if, god forbid, I ever had another flood.

We called 5 companies for estimates and I've got to tell you we were most impressed with Structure Dry. They were responsive and Coleen even called the night before to confirm the appointment. Jim was right on time and he really knows his stuff. Very professional, but explained everything in simple terms. Unfortunately, they were the highest estimate of the 5 and one company who uses the same product was about $900.00 cheaper. We really would have selected Structure Dry except for the pricing. I'm sure they would have done a great job and we would have loved working with them. It was hard for us to tell Jim and Coleen we selected someone else because they were so great.

I was pleased when we first made contact with SD because Colleen seemed responsible and invested in her clients. The price seemed fair compared with other quotes we sought prior to choosing a company. I trusted Colleen enough to leave her with my keys so she could begin work while I was out of town. Because SD does not do reconstruction projects, we sought referrals from Colleen. She vowed that if we selected this one company in particular (not on Angie's List)- someone she has a long and trusted rapport with - she would continue managing our project from start (remediation) to finish (completion of reconstruction). The remediation work neither terribly exceeded nor failed our expectations. We settled balances on time and according to the contract we were given. However, halfway through our reconstruction project we noticed two issues: one task that was overlooked/omitted, and also sloppy work that stained portions of our walls, beams and doors. To make a long story short, you simply cannot ask questions, offer critique or expect any followup with SD. I was forced to speak to Jim Shranz, Colleen's husband, who before hearing my questions just screamed and yelled at me for bothering him. He bombarded me over the phone with false claims, lies and insults. He wouldn't take responsibility for the mess they created. I paid $500 for a dumpster rental and yet they left wooden beams with rusty nails sitting in my hallway. I was told that cleaning up was not their responsibility. Essentially, I was told nothing is SD's responsibility. Their sloppy work stained portions of my room but they wouldn't clean it up. They failed to complete a task I paid for, and then lied and screamed about it when it was brought to their attention. And, when I raised these issues with Jim Shranz he responded by insulting me on the phone, and then sending me a hostile and threatening letter to my personal email. Overall, I'm thoroughly disgusted by this experience and I would never, ever, in good conscience, recommend this company to anyone. I feel awful for Colleen, who is dedicated and responsible. But her husband is a tremendous liability, who hides his sloppy work and violent tendencies under the cloak of perfectionism. It is unsettling to me that this individual ever had access to my home and my keys. He has no self-control, is a liar, and after seeing that his only response to inquiry is to violently scream at clients, and then send threatening emails I would not be comfortable alone with him. If there is any challenge to this claim, I'm happy to show you the emails. Bottom Line: once they get paid they couldn't care less. If you have a question, a problem, or something utterly unexpected occurs, you're left hung out to dry. Far from being the most unprofessional company I've ever worked with, they have no integrity and dodge responsibility through intimidation. And honestly, if you're a woman, you will, no doubt, be treated much worse by Jim.
Description of Work: Structure Dry visited the house to survey a mold problem in our finished basement. On the first visit measurements were taken and within a few days an estimate was given and accepted. Mold remediation took place over the course of three days, in which time walls were knocked out, flooring was removed, the necessary chemicals administered and the vacuums installed to clean the air of spores. Structure Dry does not do reconstruction.

Response from STRUCTURE DRY INC
STRUCTURE DRY IS COMMITTED TO SERVING EACH CLIENT WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF DOING BUSINESS WITH OUTSTANDING WORKMANSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. OUR HISTORY SPEAKS VOLUMES FOR THE LEVEL OF WORKMANSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT STRUCTURE DRY HAS A REPUTATION FOR DELIVERING. COMMENTS FROM ANGIE’S LIST MEMBERS REFLECT THIS, AS WELL AS OUR HISTORY OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE REPORTS FROM MEMBERS AT ANOTHER SCREENED CONTRACTOR SITE. WE CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT THE SERVICE OUR CLIENTS RECEIVE FROM US, AND FULL ATTENTION WAS GIVEN TO THIS MEMBER, AS IS THE CASE WITH EACH CLIENT WE WORK WITH. OUR COMMITMENT TO SERVE THIS MEMBER WELL WAS CONSISTENT FROM START TO FINISH DURING EACH PHASE OF THE PROJECT. WE PROMISED TO KEEP THE MEMBER UPDATED WHILE THE REMEDIATION WAS IN PROGRESS AS THE MEMBER WAS AWAY DURING THIS PORTION OF THE PROJECT. THE MEMBER WAS CONTACTED DAILY WITH PROGRESS REPORTS. STRUCTURE DRY SPECIALIZES IN WATER DAMAGE MITIGATION AND MOLD REMEDIATION SERVICES SO WE DO NOT PROVIDE RECONSTRUCTION SERVICES. IT HAS BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE FROM CLIENT FEEDBACK THAT IF WE COULD RECOMMEND A RECONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL. WE HAVE CONTRACTORS WE PARTNER WITH WHO WE HAVE A HIGH LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE IN. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT STRUCTURE DRY WAS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MOLD REMEDIATION PORTION OF THIS PROJECT. OUR GENERAL MANAGER COMPLETED A FINAL WALK THROUGH WITH THE MEMBER BEFORE THE REMEDIATION PORTION OF THE PROJECT WAS CLOSED. IT WAS OUR UNDERSTANDING PER THE MEMBER THAT ALL SERVICES HAD BEEN COMPLETED AS AGREED AND THAT THE MEMBER WAS PLEASED WITH THE FINAL PRODUCT. THERE WERE NO CONCERNS COMMUNICATED AND PAYMENT WAS ISSUED IN FULL. THE MEMBER WAS OFFERED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST THE BENEFIT OF HAVING US MANAGE THE RECONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THE PROJECT WHICH WAS COMPLETED BY OTHERS. WE OFFER THIS COURTESY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE MEMBER THROUGH EACH PHASE OF THEIR PROJECT. WE MANAGED THE RECONSTRUCTION AS PROMISED AND WERE IN CONSTANT COMMUNICATION WITH THE CONTRACTOR AND THE MEMBER. AGAIN, IT WAS OUR UNDERSTANDING FROM THE MEMBER THAT ALL RECONSTRUCTION WORK WAS COMPLETED AS AGREED. THE MEMBER COMMENTED THAT THERE WAS A TASK OVERLOOKED BY STRUCTURE DRY. WE GO OVER ALL SERVICES DURING THE FINAL WALK THROUGH AND WE WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF ANY MISSED ITEMS. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE ISSUE WAS RECONSTRUCTION RELATED. THE ITEMS MENTIONED THAT WERE LEFT BEHIND BY US WERE LEFT TO BE REUSED DURING THE RECONSTRUCTION AND WE EXPLAINED THIS TO THE MEMBER. WE DO KNOW THAT THERE WAS AN AREA ON THE WOOD BEAMS WHERE THE ENCAPSULATION PRODUCT HAD RUN OVER. WE WERE ADDRESSING THIS AND HAD BEEN DISCUSSING SAFE REMEDY OPTIONS WITH THE MEMBER. TO SAY THAT WE WERE “UNAVAILABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS OR TO OFFER CRITIQUE” WOULD NOT BE IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE OPEN LINE OF COMMUNICATION THAT WAS CONSTANT THROUGH OUT THE MOLD REMEDIATION PHASE AND RECONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THIS PROJECT. WE NEVER VIEWED IT AS INCONVENIENT TO RESPOND TO REQUESTS FORM THE MEMBER AT ANY TIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS. REGARDING COMMENTS ABOUT OUR GENERAL MANAGER, THE MEMBER HAD MET WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER DURING THE INITIAL INSPECTION, AND THE FINAL WALK THROUGH. NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK REGARDING THE GENERAL MANAGER HAD BEEN EXPRESSED BY THE MEMBER AT ANY TIME DURING THE REMEDIATION. IT APPEARS THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE MEMBER AND OUR GENERAL MANAGER DURING A DISCUSSION AT THE CLOSE OF THE RECONSTRUCTION PHASE OF THE PROJECT THAT ADDRESSED PUNCH LIST ITEMS. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT WE WOULD ADDRESS ANY ITEM DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE REMEDIATION, HOWEVER; RECONSTRUCTION ITEMS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE RECONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR FOR COMPLETION. WE STAND BEHIND OUR WORKMANSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. OUR HISTORY OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IS ONE WE ARE VERY PROUD OF! WE ARE AT A LOSS AS TO WHEN THIS PROJECT BEGAN TO BE VIEWED AS PROBLEMATIC, AND WE WOULD WELCOME THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS THIS WITH THE MEMBER TO RESOLVE ANY MISUNDERSTANDING.

I was immediately impressed by Structure Dry when I called to get an estimate. Colleen was extremely prompt and friendly in scheduling an estimate and in following up after the estimate to see whether I had any questions. Estimator Jim offered helpful advice and recommended a reasonable slate of services to kill visible mold and treat for possible stray mold spores. The team that arrived at my house, led by Scott, were extremely professional and knowledgeable about the rehabilitation work that was necessary. They performed the work in precisely the amount of time they predicted and we have not had any mold recurrence. Following completion of the work, Colleen was very helpful in preparing documents for my insurance company and to ensure I was satisfied with the work as completed.

The whole process took less than two weeks from first phone call to completion. It maybe could have been faster but we were out of town for part of that time. Structure Dry really puts together a good package, from excellent phone communications and clarity about scheduling to complete paperwork, courteous & quick servicemen and of course total removal of the moldy part of our wall. We feel confident that the mold has been dealt with as well as is humanly possible, which is important to us as we have a lot of respiratory issues in our family.
Description of Work: Removed 3' by 8' section of moldy drywall in our laundry room, applied mold killing compound to foundation and studs as well as the entire laundry room floor & walls, applied sealant to foundation and studs where mold had been. Also treated the cabinets which had been on that wall. Left my house totally clean and tidy.

They were very professional. The person on the phone was very responsive and got back to me right away. They negotiated the price for us. We were glad they had to pass a test in the end. She was very informative about the chemicals.
Description of Work: They came in and did air samples. They subcontract to test the mold. They took samples of the drywall. They come in and educates you about the mold and then they develop a plan. They had to rip in the carpet. They took out a couple chunks of drywall. They gave me a website to check the chemicals. They treat the walls. They took out all of the carpet. We had to rent a dumpster, but they put everything in the dumpster. They use air purifiers for a couple of days. They also put something in the air ducts.

Very impressed from the start! Highly professional from first phone call. Accommodated my request for quick estimate and later scheduled the work within a week. Very knowledgeable technician was the only one (of many companies contacted) during the estimating process who immediately identified the type of mold that was present. The company was in contact throughout the mold remediation process and provided great service and documentation of work performed. The job was even finished in less time than originally estimated. Great follow through, nice guarantee. Pricing was very competitive and though I did receive a few lower estimates this company's service and professionalism really stood out from the crowd and won my confidence.

From the beginning we knew we were in completely professional hands. Colleen answered our call immediately and told us she would have Jim at our house within 24 hours. He arrived promptly at the scheduled time, set up drying machines, dehumidifiers, fans and an air cleaner. He and his assistants worked neatly, quickly and efficiently. They checked for mold and treated the area to ensure none would grow. The machines ran for 3 days and Jim came daily to check the progress. When the area was completely dry the machines were removed. One day Jim re located a fan and although I didn't know it, it blew a fuse. The CO monitor went off and I thought we had a CO problem. I frantically called both Colleen and Jim and within 20 minutes Jim returned, realized it was not a CO problem, flipped the circuit, relocated the fan and just for good measure, helped me change the battery in the CO monitor. What makes this company special is that they understand how to deal with homeowners with a household emergency. They are kind, caring and totally professional.

Our finished basement flooded in late August of 2007, and before we could get remodelers in to bid the job, we needed to bring in a mold remediation company to do the necessary demolition and treat the area to kill any mold and to ensure that no mold would grow once we remodeled. I had 4-5 companies come in and bid the job. I liked 2 companies and chose to hire Structure Dry. Colleen and Jim Shranz both did a great job throughout the process. Colleen's follow up was consistent and she was extremely professional. Jim came out on site twice to ensure that we had everything covered in our final quote. The work was completed on schedule and on budget with very little disruption to our home and family. The workers were courteous and neat and they worked very efficiently. Jim has many years of experience in this business and I would highly recommend Structure Dry to anyone who is in need of professional help with water damage and/or mold remediation.
Description of Work: Demolition work that included removing drywall, insulation, cabinets, doors, tile/carpet, etc. from throughout our finished basement. Deployed 2 negative air fans/air scrubbers to dry basement. Vacuumed surfaces with a HEPA vacuum and treated the area with a biocide. Sealed the affected surfaces with an anti-microbial coating.
