Steve came in for an estimate, and dazzled me with all of his reviews and calm and very informative demeanor. Even though Home Comfort Systems price was not the lowest, they were the only one that offered to do the install of a zoned HVAC system (something I thought I really wanted). We the set a schedule and his crew came in, and removed our old furnace and AC unit, and installed the new one, along with doing some duct work and the zoning. Steve Loved to state his policy on not paying until you are happy or if you not happy he would remove what they put in and there would be no cost (of course your old equipment is already gone, so good luck with that). So we agreed to wait until a nice hot day to see if the new system would work in summer heat. It did not. So, I decided that a reason for that was our substandard attic insulation. So, I had someone come in and install a new blanket of R49 down in our attic. So, we waited for the next hot day. And still not so good, it got up to 89 degrees and our upstairs rooms we set to 70 in the Master, and 73 in the other rooms. By 4 PM the Master was 79, and the other rooms were over 80. Steve told me that my basement bar ventilation system was to blame. So we did it again with that off, all the doors closed, everything the way it "needed" to be for this brand new HVAC system to work properly. 90 degree day, exactly the same thing. So now I have to set my downstairs at 75 (3 degrees warmer then I would like) and put fans in from of the vents in the upstairs rooms to get the air to flow in any way shape or form. So They had some one come in to fix the drywall holes that were put in to install the zoning dampeners. This was in the bathroom of my basement bar. What the did was affix some VERY large unattractive venting on the ceiling, and called it a day. Not only is it horrible to look at, but now the door in my bathroom can't open all the way, because the vent are so large they are hanging down in to why. This is not what I would call standing behind your product, but he accepted payment, and I am in now way happy with that work that was done. So much for his famous quote. I'm sure I will get a call saying that they will be happy to come and take out what they install, and refund me my money. And, I'll take him up on in it, if he can put back my old stuff that work just as well as the multi-thousand dollar system he put in does.

WE RETURNED ON AN 87 DEGREE DAY AND FOUND THE MASTER BR AT 70 AS SET AND THE REST OF THE HOUSE AT 72 AS SET. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AIR WAS 53 DEGREES COMMING OUT OF THE VENTS. YOU FEEL THE AIR FLOW SHOULD BE STRONGER BUT THE MEASURED FLOW IS 1 1/2 TIMES THE FACTORY SUGGESTED RATE. THE TEMPERATURES TELL US THAT IT IS BLOWING AS WELL AS IT SHOULD. BEFORE THE NEW SYS THE UPSTAIRS COULD NEVER GET BELOW 80. OUR DESIRE THOUGH IS FOR YOUR SATISFACTION. the owner has fixed the receptionsist issue and now patches service questions directly through to a tech or himself. Thus, this is extroadinary since no other company will talk to you on the phone about a service issue to save you money. .
Description of Work: I contacted this company to ask about them changing the amps on the outside box to my a/c. The answering service could not make an appt without speaking to a service rep. The service rep called me back (left a message) and asked for specs on the box. I called back and left detailed info with the answ service. No one called back. I called back again, left same info, and asked if they could fix my problem. A service tech called me back and said " I have no idea what you are calling me for but call back and have the company page me again. I don't carry a specific cell number with me." So, after this, I gave up. Then, this company, after receiving this report, called me back several times but I had already called another service company that just charged me $100 and came out to tell me the amp shutoff box was fine because the breaker on my electrical panel was correct. Thus, Home Comfort was correct in not coming out, and trying to diagnose the problem on the phone, because there was no real problem and I just wasted $100 having a nonexistant problem diagnosed (so much for the home inspector who was so worried about the outside box). Since I may be replacing my a/c soon, I did contact Steve, the owner of Home Comfort Systems, and he explained in detail how my a/c works and his bid so far, is the lowest. Since my a/c is about 10 years old, I want to be ready with an idea of what type of unit and which company to work with. Home Comfort Systems seems reputable and reliable.

. Would have been nice if they would have checked the air conditioner as a routine check in the spring since they could not check it when they installed it with the furnance in the winter. The issue was the rodent and not the installation. They were very helpful once I talked to Steve. It was a busy time for them so that was the reason they could not come out right away.
Description of Work: Furnance and air conditioner installed in Dec. 2010 Furance worked fine. Turned on air conditioner 2 days ago and when going to the basement there was water all under the furnace and had seeped under the wall into a 8x8 foot area of carpet. Called the company and they responded right away but could not come out till MOnday and this was a Friday as they are very busy. Called the owner Steve as the furnace started to leak water when I turned it back on on Sunday and he got someone out that day to look at the problem and offered to repair any damage it caused. He was very nice and called back a second time to let me know someone would be out. It ended up being a blocked pipe from a dead rodent (yuck) and was causing the leak and it was not due to installation. Mike went to get a new pipe so their would not be a smell. They did not charge for this visit as I called thinking it was under warrenty since the furance and airconditioner were just installed but the malfunction was not a warrenty issue problem since it was a dead rodent blocking the pipe that caused the leak. Steve called back that day to ensure that we were satisfied.

Great experience - from the first phone call to set up an appointment for a quote on furnace and air conditioners all the way through installation. Worked directly with Steve, the owner, who is absolutely all about customer service. He did a great job of explaining what I needed and what I didn't need and walked me through all of my options. On the day of installation, everyone in the crew arrived as scheduled, was polite, very neat and worked diligently through a thunderstorm to complete the installation. I couldn't be more pleased.

We have been having severe problems with temperature differential in different parts of our house since we bought it 23 years ago. The master bedroom (which sits mostly over a garage and has a vaulted ceiling) was a major trouble spot. Always too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. We found out about Home Comfort Systems by talking to them at a home show at College of DuPage. We got some literature and a DVD from them at the show and called for an estimate a few days later. Steve, the owner, came out, listened to me explain the situation, looked over the ventilation system and furnace and told me he could install a 3 zone system (master bedroom, other 2nd floor, lower level) that would solve our problem. The price did not seem out of line for the work that was being done. He gave us an estimate which we accepted the next day and his crew or two was out two days later. Their professionalism was excellent. They laid drop cloths from the front door all the way down the stains to the basement. They were on time and (except for a short, well-deserved break) worked continuously and diligently until they finished about 5 hours later. Steve went over the system with me and answered numerous annoying questions of mine happily. Here's the kicker: He didn't want to be paid on the completion of the job! He wanted us to use it for a couple of weeks first! I have NEVER have a contractor come in and not expect to be paid immediately upon completion. We noticed the difference almost immediately. All of a sudden we could keep the entire house at (essentially) the same temperature - even our pesky master bedroom. The system worked exactly as Steve said it would. There was only one annoying feature that I could not figure out initially. It turned out that the thermostats have an adaptive learning feature that causes them to call for heat early so that the temperature you want will be reached by the time you enter in the thermostat. I really just want the system to change the thermostat temperature setting at the times I want it to. I made a call to Steve, and he came out a couple of hours later to show me how to disable that feature. We are so pleased with his service, that we are now going to use them for our regular furnace and A/C tuneups. We also need our water heater replaced soon and they will be getting that business as well. To say that we're completely satisfied with the sales, installation and service is an understatement. A+!

For five years, I had a furnace problem that another company couldn't figure out. They kept trying to fix it. None of what they told me made sense. I brought in this company. They did a little bit of thinking, and they figured out that my furnace intake and outtake was blocked, which was causing my furnace to shut down. It wasn't inexpensive, but it was far less expensive than anything the other company did. I have recommended them to other people personally, and they have had the same experience. Their prices are good.

We were very happy with the serviceman (Mike Bilica). He came very late in the evening, around 11:00 pm in order to get our water heater repaired. He let us know when he finished on the last job and when he was on his way to our home. He answered all our questions and didn't mind if we stood by to watch him work. He gave us helpful advice on the best furnace filters to use and why they were better. When I went to purchase them the salesman in the store agreed and said it is the one the professionals use. I would never have know there was a difference and they were cheaper than those we had been using. We have had terrible luck with service people in the past who very obviously took advantage of our ignorance about these things. That is what led us to Angie's List. We are so pleased with this first experience that we won't ever use a yellow page ad again!

We were extremely satisfied with the project from start to finish. Steve was so friendly and thorough in presenting the companies products in his original visit for our estimate request. He was very helpful in determining which units would be ideal for our home, without pressuring us to select the higher priced units. For example, he explained how a lower seer rated air conditioner's efficiency would be increased in combination with a higher performance furnace. With the discounts they offered, in combination with existing tax credits for the higher efficiency furnace, we felt we received excellent value in the units we purchased. The installation was scheduled a few days later. The installers were on schedule, very efficient, professional, and courteous. They were considerate in protecting the surrounding work area with tarps to avoid any dirt accumulation during installation and cleaned up well when finished. All work was completed in one day, in approximately 7 hours time. I was impressed, considering the amount of work accomplished and the tiny size of our utility room that they were required to work in. When finished, they explained all details necessary in operating the new equipment with advice on such things as what air filters should be used,etc. Everything worked properly. The only thing that required a follow up was an adjustment to the whole house humidifier that was transferred from our old furnace to the new unit. Mike responded to my call immediately and fixed the problem quickly. He discovered that the transformer normally included inside the humidifier was previously installed in the old furnace that was removed. He apologized for the unknown error and promptly installed a new one at no additional charge. I am very happy with everything now, especially with the service and value provided by Home Comfort Systems. The reviews for this company on Angies list helped me choose this company, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone else.

From my initial call to schedule an appointment to the actual appointment, Steve, the owner, was not only accessible, but punctual, professionally dressed, courteous, responsive and listened carefully to our issues and questions. He patiently answered every question we had and explained why and how our system worked the way it did and what contributes to our problems. He explained that the customer does not pay until they are totally satisfied. Considering the ratings on Angie's List and other rating services, it is easy to see why he gets raves. Obviously, the proof is in the actual service, but this was the best first impression I've ever had of any contractor.

Single best experience with a home service provider I have ever had. Steve came out initially to give me a quote on a new furnace and water heater and he was prompt and courteous and provided a comfortable feeling from the start. The quote was hundreds of dollars below the competition so I reviewed the other comments on Angie's list closely to get comfortable that I would not "get what I paid for" from the firm and ultimately decided that Steve was too genuine to believe he would leave me high and dry if anything went wrong on the install. The technicians came on time and worked diligently to replace the two units. When the installation was finished it turned out that one of the motors in the furnace was slightly out of balance and it set up a vibration. They didn't have a replacement part at the time but made a point of coming back the next day, slightly ahead of the blizzard, and replacing the motor with a perfectly balanced version. The furnace and heater have both worked flawlessly since then but I feel confident that if and when I need anything they will be responsive and ready to fix the problem.

I was initially looking to add central air to an existing 14-year-old 80%-efficient furnace in my one-story, 3-bedroom home. At the suggestion of a neighbor, I called Home Comfort Systems for a quote. It quickly became apparent that it would be better to replace the existing furnace with a new one, considering the existing unit's age, the desire to add central air and the tax credits available for installing a new furnace during 2010. Steve's quote was very good, and he gave me a discount for being referred by a neighbor. The morning of the originally scheduled installation date, Steve called to tell me that one of his installers had an emergency and would be unavailable, meaning there would not be enough people to get the job done that day. I was disappointed, but I understand that these things happen and I appreciated that he called me immediately to let me know. I rescheduled for the following week. Steve's crew arrived on time on the rescheduled date and worked the entire day. They did excellent work, and there were no surprises. Steve's quote specifically noted that there would be no additional charges, and the amount I paid was exactly what I was quoted. The system is appropriately sized for our house, works as advertised and has a 10-year warranty (be sure to register your system with the manufacturer to get the full warranty). This was a painless experience, and I highly recommend Home Comfort Systems.

My heat was not working this past winter and I was freezing and frustrated. Steve called back promptly on a weekend and what impressed me most was the time he took to speak to me over the phone and talk through the issue - he had me do two or three things on my own to see if the problem could be fixed without a home visit. Ultimately, they didn't work and he had to come out, but I was impressed that instead of coming so he could definitely charge me for the visit, he tried to help me over the phone - it saves him time on easy fixes, sure, but it also means he isn't getting paid if he can help you over the phone - so I appreciated his earnestness! Once he did come out, he solved the problem easily and was happy to walk me through what he was doing. The heat has worked great ever since. I felt he worked with such integrity I called him again this summer when our A/C wasn't working. Again, he walked me through a potential fix over the phone and for this, it worked. No service call, no money for him, but cool air for me. I respect his integrity and would highly recommend him.

Old a/c barely cooled the house until finally it quit. For several days we researched online and interviewed four different contractors for a new furnace and a/c system. Steve Bilica, owner of Home Comfort Systems (Bolingbrook) was our last call. What a relief to meet this particular business owner. Thank goodness for Angies' List or I wouldn't have found out about him. We set up our interview for early Sunday morning. Steve arrived on time, ready to share his knowledge and expertise in a professional but also, very friendly manner. We talked over the various models and decided on the best one to fit our needs. His price was several thousand dollars lower than other contractors and he was perfectly clear in his promises. And he followed through on every one. He even went the extra step of temporarily fixing our old a/c until the new one could be installed. Used his own capacitor to keep it going in a heat wave. We couldn't be happier with our new system installed by Chuck and Mike, two very professional and courteous installers who worked the whole day through and had everything up and running by 4:30 PM. They also disposed of all the old equipment. It was the nicest experience! The other reviewers are right about this Home Comfort Systems. Furnace was blowing warm air through the registers even though AC was on. Called Home Comfort Systems at 7am, and left a message. Mike called me back by 8am and instructed me to perform several diagnostic checks at the home circuit box and external AC condenser unit to assess the need for a service call. Mike patiently and clearly explained the reason for each step. He determined that a service call was needed. Since we were in middle of one of the summer heat waves, Mike said that he would be unable to give me an exact time of arrival but would call beforehand. Mike called and was on-site by noon the same day. He efficiently diagnosed and replaced a non-functioning capacitor on the AC condenser unit, explaining that this was most likely the result of electrical power drops/dips when the electric company cannot keep up with demand. Since our 4-year old unit was still under the 5-year warranty, all labor and replacement parts were free. I was very pleased with Mike's responsiveness and professionalism through the entire process.

As a small business owner myself, I knew halfway through my first meeting with Steve Blica of Home Comfort Systems that we were going to use his services. He knew his product, and he was excellent at explaining all of the options and costs for the units that his company offered. As the owner, he promised complete satisfaction, and he delivered. No gimmicks, no pressure, no problems. A few words to describe the experience: EASY, AFFORDABLE, and PROFESSIONAL! Anyone looking to purchase a new heating/cooling system would do themselves a disservice in not speaking with Steve. *To anyone handling this procedure for an aging parent as did I, the concerns are multiplied. It was very important to me that it went smoothly, and that my mother was treated well. Steve treated her with the respect of a son and for that, I am extremely grateful.

(As in the past, Mike always tries to resolve the problem if possible without even coming over as to save us a service call. That is amazing service!) In this case, after assessing our situation it was then determined that a service call was needed to fix the problem as the capacitor was not conducting electricity to our A/C unit. The service man called before coming that same day to notify us of his arrival time. He handled the problem quickly and was on his way. Fantastic experience.

They were great to work with. Steve, the owner, was able to be contacted with right away. He gave us a great price and the installation went very well. They were great for follow up and very attentive for us. Anything that you would need for heating or AC I would highly recommend this company.

A/C did not work. Called the office and within 10 minutes Mike called and tried to diagnose the problem over the phone. I trust that if the simple steps that he suggested I do would have fixed the problem, there would have no charge. The problems couldn't be fixed by phone and within 15 minutes a tech was at my home and fixed the issue. Very prompt, very customer friendly and very professional.

Family business. Very friendly from the first meeting. Wanted new AC only (ours was leaking -- too old to fix). Showed us how, with energy credit, it cost nearly the same to do both AC and furnace. Offered to fix AC for free so it would work until the new one could be installed. Workmen came on time, well supervised, professional, cleaned up after themselves,careful about tracking the house. In short, everything we could have asked for. In addition, price for both was lower than other bidders quoted for AC alone. Wonderful experience.

We called because our AC unit was not cooling the house. I left a message at 6am and Mike called back before 8am. He had us go out and look at the unit an the side of our house. The pipes to the unit were iced over, he explained over the phone on how to fix the problem. We followed his instructions and a few hours later our house was cool and comfortable. He could of came over and charged us for a house call and labor, but he didn't. I will use his services again.

Mike arrived on time and worked quickly. He repaired a water valve that was preventing my humidifier from operating properly (for a very modest cost) and he checked my air conditioner (routine, cost exactly as quoted). When he finished he gave me a status report on the unit and advice on how to keep it functioning well. He was thorough and professional in his work. I will definitely use Home Comfort Systems again.

Furnace fan konked out Saturday night with Sunday hot and muggy. I called Home Comfort and talked to the answering lady, and within 30 minutes got a call back from the owner, Mike. He had me try a couple of things over the phone, and diagnosed a faulty motor. Quoted me $350 for the replacement. Only downside was that he was out of town and could not get in to replace it until Monday. While waiting, I called around for other quotes and got some estimates from other companies for $700 and $800. Decided to wait it out until Monday and the service guy came during the 10-6 window and replaced it, throwing in a new capacitor for free (which another company wanted to charge me $120 to replace). News got even better when they only charged me $300, which is $50 less than they originally quoted. Excellent company, highly recommended. I will do business with them next time I have any heater/AC issues.
