Olson Windows Doors & Siding

The crew was very efficient and worked together as a team. Each worker knew exactly what to do and had the entire job completed in 2 days. The second day consisted primarily of replacing the trim boards which I had painted the previous day. I would highly recommend Olsen doors and windows and would hire them again in the future.

It went beautifully. every day I look at them and think, why did I wait so long to do this? They are efficient, the quality of the service and the product is outstanding.

Olson was extremely professional and knowledgeable to work with. Our sales person was terrific, and anything that she was unsure of she sought out the answer and got back to us right away. They were honest about the time frame that the work would be completed (work wouldn't begin for approximately 6-8 weeks), and kept true to that time frame. The workers were very knowledgeable, courteous and hard working. They were always polite and receptive when we shared our expectations of what was to be done, and eager to complete the job as expected. At the conclusion of the project, we had a list of several things that still needed to be addressed. They sent out a crew within a week and they completed all of the loose ends to our satisfaction. The quality of the work and the knowledge and professionalism of the Olson staff was wonderful.

They did an excellent job. George and his crew were great. They were very professional and cleaned up everywhere they worked. I would highly recomend them. In fact, they will be installing 7 more windows in January.

They arrived promptly every day and worked throughout the day. The crew was very nice and easy to work with. At the end of each day they cleaned up any trash and stored their equipment (ladders and such) neatly. Any questions that we had were answered and everything was handled very professionally. We had some concerns about the shutters, size wise, and they had no problem working with us in determining the right size and bringing 2 different sizes out for us to compare. A good test of the product was once the job was completed our area had a huge rain storm with 50+ mph winds. Nothing came off the house. The only issues we had was a lack of communication when it came to the gutter installation. It turns out they were scheduled to be installed by a different crew a few days after the siding was completed and we were not made aware of that, so we thought they just forgot to put up new gutters. We called our sales rep who assured us they didn't forget. We just felt that it would have been better to be made aware of the fact that a different crew installed gutters. All in all we are very happy with the company and their work and would recommend them to our friends.

They where on time every day, once they started the job they never left until done

We were very happy with the results of the project. We planned for 4 years for this remodel and had a very specific vision in mind. Scott Thorson did a great job of ensuring that all pieces of that vision came to reality. When we weren't able to find a balcony railing from a manufacturer, Scott found a contractor who would be able to custom build it to our vision and plan. The workmen were meticulous in the installation of the siding and even hung our new lighting and house numbers for us. Our house looks like a completely new home and we are so happy with the results!

Promptly after the below note, I had an apology from Dave Olsen (the salesman). He had someone sand down the rough wood and then had their painter come a couple of days later to paint it. After which he came to do an inspection. All fixed and good, so I changed the rating. ---------------------------------- Sales presentation was good. Received estimate in May/June but we chose not to install till Fall. In August. Called came and closed contract with understanding of October schedule. When we followed up, they returned call ready to go early September and we chose Sept 9th. They requested we clear area of all window treatments before installers arrived - which we did. Team arrived within expectations.The installation team did clean work. They used tarps, not only vacuumed after they installed, but while they were cutting to reduce dust. No mess left outside. Their communication skills were not best and our dog who normally gravitates to people did not like these guys. Otherwise we had no issues. Windows are Simonton Prism Platinum seem to be very good. I like the warranty including hardware and vinal as well as 25 year glass breakage. Negatives: reasons we rate their work B (not A). 1. They replaced some outside boards due to rotting - but sanded side was not facing out leaving a rough painting surface compared to rest of home. I (homeowner) primed and painted. 2. No one came to inspect with us after the job was completed. 3. We called the 2 weeks ago about 1 & 2 above. We were told we would be contacted. No contact yet.

Everything went good. She was very knowledgeable.

Can't speak highly enough of Olson Windows & Sidings. Brian was brilliant and extremely helpful in making choices. The fitters worked very efficiently and carefully - excellent finish. And the painter added the final touches. Price was very good. Now just enjoying the new windows and door.

Original Install was delayed by a week due to window manufacturer. Once all windows (supposedly) had arrived, Olson came to our house as scheduled. Turned out the window manufacturer had not shipped all our windows in the same shipment, so Olson could only install the windows that were delivered. Once the remainder of the windows were available, Olson scheduled a second day to finish the install. 2 Screens were damaged during transport and were ordered and replaced under warranty. One window which was installed on the first install date had a different width of molding trim on the exterior than the window beside it installed on the second date. This was corrected by Olson on a later day. There were some issues with a few locks on 2 windows and the paint finish on the patio door. Olson informed the manufacturer about these issues, who then contacted us directly and scheduled a service visit and subsequent corrections/fixes under warranty. The crew from Olson is employed by Olson, so not subcontracted. They were very courteous and professional and left the place very clean. I can strongly recommend Olson for your window or door project.

The quality of Olsons work was outstanding from Scott the companies representative to the three actual workers that were here every morning at the same time. They were very professional, polite and helpful. If there was any problem that arose it was taken care of in a very professional manner immediately. They cleaned up completely at the end of every work day. I would highly recommend Olson for any outside or window project that you may have.

The tear off began on Thursday, July 11th, project completed on Monday, July 22nd. The job was completed professionally and on a timely basis. Both the installation crew, as well as the project manager, and the sales rep were available to answer our questions, and to follow up to be sure we were satisfied. We are very pleased with the result. Would definitely use this company for future projects, and would recommend them to our family and friends.

Dave sat down with me and discussed window options and offered a comparable price as others. He was great to work with. Their type of window quality was better than others quoted. During installation, 2 guys came and replaced them with extreme professionalism and craftsmanship. They had 3 windows to go at the end of the day and another installer came over to assist in completing the project the same day. That was nice not to have to adjust another day's plans. They cleaned up everything and were polite and fitted the windows to a perfect fit. We are very pleased and satisficed with our new windows.

It went extremely well. Their installers were on-time, true craftsmen and very, very neat. They did no damage to any part of our home, placed drop cloths on the places where they were going to walk and cleaned up so well that you would never have known that they had been there. The windows are beautiful and we have noticed that we don't hear as many outside sounds as we used to and we have had to adjust our temperature in the house because it cools down and stays cool much longer than before. Most of the windows came pre-painted from the factory. For those that weren't, their painter did a great job of painting.

The entire process was hassle free from start to finish. I received several quotes and Olson came in approximately $1,000.00 higher but after doing my homework and research you get what you pay for when purchasing windows. Olson has a better installation process than some of the others using flashing tape to ensure a good seal. I signed a contract on June 5th, measurements were taken and installation took place today 7/13/13. The installers did a wonderful job and left my place spotless....I would definitely hire Olson again and highly recommend them.

We worked with Scott Thorson from Olson for this project. It was a pleasure working with Scott. He was always professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable about the entire process as well as the different products. He was also very prompt in answering our many questions and very patient with us as well. For this project, we obtained 4 different quotes and Olson's pricing was very competitive. We had worked with Olson before and they did an excellent job so it was easy to select Olson again. After signing the contract, Scott helped us pick the different colors and options for the siding. He brought over many different samples to our home which we thought was exceptional service. Scott also kept us updated throughout the process. Exactly on the week we requested, the materials arrived at our home and Olson started the work. It took one and a half week to finish the job. The crew, led by Adam, was very professional and performed excellent work. The installation went very smoothly and the crew paid attention to the little details. They worked very hard but did not rush the job. Whenever they were not sure about something, they waited to ask us about what we wanted. The work was top-notch. At the end of each day, the crew cleaned up around the house. We had no issue with the installation at all and everything went pretty much according to plan. Scott also came by several times to check on the work and to make sure we were happy. We are very happy with the work by Olson. We have not had any issues with the siding or installation but if anything comes up I'm confident that Olson will take care of it. From the start, Scott took care of everything and made the whole process easy for us. We highly recommend Olson to anyone looking to replace their siding.

UPDATE: In retrospect, I am unhappy with Pella Proline windows. They ice up terribly in the cold (even the moderately cold) winter conditions. It has been a major disappointment. My updated advice is do not buy Pella Prolines in the Chicago area. They are not built for the extreme weather conditions in the midwest. My gripe is not with Olson, per say. My gripe is with the wrong window for my home. I have an average suburban home. The indoor humidity is on the low average side. I do not run a humidifier, and there is an average amount of static electrical shock when walking on carpet indoors. My windows (only the Proline double hungs) have an extreme amount of ice on them in this bitter cold weather (Jan. 2014). It does not go away, and cannot be easily scraped away. If you have ice problems on your windows you are looking to replace, don't buy Prolines. The casement and awnings (designer or architect series) are performing well in the frigid conditions, but all the double hungs continue to disappoint. I think Olson did a good job on installing the products, and I think they wish it were different. I just shouldn't have been offered a product that couldn't withstand a Chicago winter. Perhaps that would have lead me elsewhere, I cannot say for sure, because I did have a limited budget. But, in the end, the Prolines have been a disappointment. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The project went great from start to finish. It was a long process, from the initial contact in October of 2012, to completion of the project in May of 2013. I worked with many fine people, from Scott and Yvette, who sold, priced, and coordinated the entire project; the window and trim installers; Scott, the painter who painted the new windows and all the trim in the house; to Jack and his 3-man crew who installed all the Hardie siding and trim. It was a massive project, with more than half the cost going toward the new windows, replacing all the interior trim, and painting all the interior trim in the house (including the newly installed trim, as well as, painting over previously-stained doors, jambs, baseboards, and thresholds throughout the house). The windows are Pella. I have an assortment of styles including Proline double hungs, Designer casements and awnings, and a Designer 8' entry door. The installation project went very well. The installers were quick, detail-minded, and took pride in their work. The simple, back-band trim they installed is perfect, and is perhaps my favorite element of the job. Scott, the painter, worked tirelessly for days on end of the tedious job of painting over our stained baseboards, doors, jambs, and stairway, in addition to painting the new windows and trim. The transformation inside the house is amazing, and I love it. The interior evolved from a faded, medium-brown, colonial trimmed look, to a simple, fresh, craftsman-styled white trimmed look. It is very fresh, bright, and clean now with the new windows and paint job. The exterior portion of the project was hampered by terrible weather conditions in April. What normally would have taken 8 or 9 days, stretched into 3 plus weeks. This portion got off to a rocky start when the dumpster and materials arrived, but no one from Olson was here to handle the delivery. I scrambled to figure out what to do. Once the crew arrived, they set up their work areas and began to remove the aluminum siding. Within a day, they were installing Tyvek wrap, and flashing around windows, and where the siding meets the roofline. After a reminder from me that they were to install a 1/2" foam board (always stay on top of your contract terms as the work is progressing to be certain all steps are taking place) before the Hardie siding, the siding began to be installed. The weather (rain and cold) slowed the progress, but the crew carried on through some nasty conditions. They worked very hard, and again, pride in their work was evident. Jack, the foreman, would keep me apprised of how the job was moving along and answer any questions. Communicating directly with the crew was difficult, as English is not their primary language, but Scott Thorson was only a phone call away if I had questions or issues. We chose Monterey Taupe with Arctic White trim for the exterior, and the finish project looks spectacular. The Hardie siding and trim is well worth the investment if you are considering it. It looks like cedar, and is much more substantial than vinyl. The windows on the house are trimmed in white Hardie board, and the soffits and the gutters are white also. The look is sharp, fresh, and just different enough from our neighbors to stand out. The curb appeal is outstanding. I would most definitely recommend Olson, and would happily used them again if I had any work left to be done! Scott and Yvette, who worked with me from the beginning, were eminently patient, and I believed in them and the company they worked for. They assured me that the job was not done until I was 100% satisfied, and that they would continue to be there for me for as long as I own my home. I believe them, and believe Olson is a company who will stand behind their work, and the products they sell and install. No doubt, there will be some issue, here or there, over the years, and I have the full expectation that the Olson company will be there for us! It was a job well done, and I am not an easily satisfied customer. I wouldn't change a thing.

Our home is 24 years old and it was built using the T-111 vertical wooden siding that was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. It also was built with triple-pane wooden casement windows. This meant that through the years my wife and I had been forced to hire a painter to paint the entire exterior of the house every 5-6 years. Some of the painters we used were good, some not so good. As a result, over time the windows began to leak and the siding also had developed a few leakage problems. My wife and I decided that the time had come to redo our windows and siding, but we were very nervous about who to choose to do such a major project. I had heard some good things about Olson Windows Doors and Siding, so when Scott Thorson, their salesman, showed up on our doorstep one day we invited him in to discuss our needs. Scott was very professional and very courteous in answering the many questions that my wife and I had. Because of our cautiousness, it took 2 months from our first meeting with Scott to the time we signed their contract and Scott could not have been more patient and understanding with the process we were going through. We also met with Dave from Olson during this time and he was equally patient in understanding and helping us with the learning process that we were involved in. Originally, we wanted to come up with a vertical siding look that would match the existing look of our home. Over the course of the two months, however, we came to realize (after looking at some homes like ours that had been re-done) that it would be better to revamp the look of our home by going with more modern horizontal siding. We had many discussions with Olson personnel about the various options and we ended up going with Mastic Structure siding to improve our home's energy efficiency. Color was another stumbling block for us and again Olson was very patient with us as we explored alternatives. The range of colors available in siding and trim is not as broad as it is in the world of house paints and that presented us with a challenge in trying to match the color of the trim with the colors available from Pella. Eventually, we were able to come up with a color scheme that worked and Scott was able to find matching aluminum trim and gutters. We were happy with our overall plan and gave Scott and Olson the okay to order everything. After waiting for several weeks for Pella to produce the windows to size, the windows arrived and Olson scheduled the installation to begin. First the original windows were removed and replaced by 28 new casement windows. This only took a couple of days and everything went very smoothly. After the windows were done, the siding crew arrived to begin removing all of the T-111 siding and replacing it with the Mastic vinyl. The entire process of siding and trim took about 3 weeks and during that time Olson found and fixed some problems with our sheathing and insulation. Finally, the gutter crew came in and put up all new gutters and downspouts in about a day. Once the project was done, we were very happy with the results. We look at our house and feel like we have greatly improved the look of our home and brought it from the 1980s to the 2010s. We have gotten many compliments from our neighbors about our "new home" and we are very happy to have a house that it is very energy efficient and requires no outside maintenance like painting. Everyone at Olson Windows Doors & Siding was very patient, helpful and professional in helping us get through this massive project. In the end, the results are very enjoyable to live in and to see, and we are grateful to Olson for making them happen. We recommend them to anyone looking for windows and/or siding for their home.

The entire experience was great from our initial visit to their showroom through the installation. Dave DePinto, our sales person was knowledgeable, helpful and professional in all of our dealings. For us, it was a big decision in terms of changing the entire look of the front of the house-style, color, wear, durability etc. were all important factors to consider. Dave helped us with all of that. The installers showed up on time and completed their work checking with me throughout the process. They also cleaned up! Scott who did the paint/stain both pre-installation and in our home was truly great. He also was punctual and cleaned up in addition to doing a flawless job. I would recommend Olson and this team without hesitation

Dave came out to give us a quote and knew we had received one prior from a competitor. At this point, it was going to come down to price since the door was on the higher end of sliding doors. He was super professional and was able to relate to me and my wife and the fact that we were new homeowners that really wanted to upgrade our home before we had kids. He not only knew exactly what we wanted as soon as I started to describe it, but he really validated our decision to invest in a high-quality door. He was also able to show us examples of what the door would look like in a catalog AS WELL AS images of previous jobs they have done with the same door. He had these on his iPad, which told me he was prepared. When we received the quote, it was almost $1,000 less than the one I received from the competitor. We were given up to a 8-week turnaround, but had the door installed within 5 weeks. The installation went extremely well since their installers knew what they were doing and explained everything as they were putting the door together. Before they left, the gave us a thorough walk-through of how to use the door and what to expect when Olson's "stain guy" came out to stain and finish the door. When Scott came to stain the door a week later, he couldn't have been more pleasant. He helped us select the perfect stain to match our kitchen cabinets and floors. While the job took 2 days due to the time it takes the stain to dry, it was worth it. He even patched up six small holes left over from our old, ugly, and cumbersome window treatments. This is service! Overall, the entire Olson team was super professional and respectful of our needs, wants, and home. They cleaned their work areas and made sure our floors were left spotless. Again, it came down to price but I can honestly say their service was what blew us away. If you are on the fence about a door, window, or siding job, give them a call. You won't be let down.

Olson was very responsive and we quickly had an appointment with a salesperson who walked us through various options and gave us a quote. As we were hosting family for Christmas, we expressed that we would appreciate having the work done prior to the holidays. The two installers arrived at the appointed time and were very professional and clean. The new door was installed, the previous door hauled away, and the interior/exterior trimwork installed prior to Christmas. Trimwork painting was completed after the holidays. All in all, we're very pleased with the work and would work with Olson again.

I like that they were very prompt, and professional. They double checked the measurements to ensure fit, and I am very pleased with the door replacements. They also followed up to make sure there were no issues after the installation.
