Olson Windows Doors & Siding

No response almost one month after their visit to our home. No estimate. No sorry, just no information or update at all.

Session with initial sales rep went very well. Most informative and responsive. We have had Pella windows in our home (1960's era house) and were planning on replacing them with Pella. Then we went into the store to get more details and see the current versions in more detail. Everyone we talked with there (3 visits) was about as opposite from the initial sales rep as one could imagine. Very poor service. Long wait times. Attitude was "take it or leave it." Maybe they have so many Barrington area clients who simply pay money regardless of what they are told. Or maybe they have so many clients that they can "afford" a non caring attitude. Suffice it to say, we did not purchase new Pella windows. Spent the $35,000 with another provider who was much more helpful.

It was ok, they were on time within the time scheduled and completed everything on time and when they said they would.

Very professional and timely in providing estimate and actual installation. Work was completed quickly with minimal disruption to our family and clean up was excellent. Will definitely call Olson Windows with any future glass repair or replacement needs.

They were efficient, neat and totally picked up after themselves. Even vacuumed up the pile of sawdust that was in the grass from cutting the wood for the trim.

Our experience was excellent. The Olson salesman Pat McGrath was very friendly, straightforward, and low key. He did a very good job explaining the various types and features of windows Olson installs and gave us quotes on 5 different brands and types of windows. We went to their showroom and got a look at samples before we made out choice between Marvin and Beechworth. There was no sales pressure. The time between signing the contract and the installation was about 6 weeks. The installers Adam and his workmate were punctual, polite, attentive to detail, focused and hard-working. They explained what they were doing, how they were going to proceed, and asked us what style of external and internal mouldings we wanted. In particular, for one recessed window, he asked how we wanted the moulding put on and installed it in the more complicated way we wanted it. The old steel frame windows were hard to remove but they did it with minimal damage to the old style plaster/lath around the windows. The guys finished the work in less than two days in cold, rainy conditions with minimal disruption to our house. Their workmanship was of the highest quality. I know that proper installation is key to any window install for the best look and energy efficiency. Some of our neighbors have commented on how good the new windows look. I would highly recommend the crew we had and Olson.

Windows were ordered, arrived in -2 weeks-, we were called, set up installation, the Olsen guys came out as scheduled, took all windows out, and the new ones in. They cleaned up and disposed of our old windows as well.

Installers were excellent (Ziggy & Merrik) very meticulous and polite. Salesman Dave was very professional and helpful. Would highly recommend Olson and these installers. We were so pleased we hired them to install a new front door as well.

The workers did a great job. They were quick. They were courteous. They cleaned up every day when they were done and we're very happy with the way everything turned out.

They arrived on time, worked very efficiently and courteous with little disruption to plants and gardens outside, took special care of the outside, and were very professional. the cleanup was great and operation of the door and windows was very carefully explained to me and answered all of my questions. An inspection was done with me prior to their leaving to make sure everything was to my expectations. The touch up painter that came was courteous and worked quickly and also did an inspection with me to make sure all paint surfaces that needed painting were done. Extra paint was left with me which is a bonus!!

Salesman came to the house to talk about the door replacement. He was professional and explained in detail what they would do to correct our door problem. Talked about all the options, benefits and how each would apply to the different choices. The crew were on time the morning to change out the doors. They did a great job and really cared about doing everything possible to keep our house clean. The areas where the work was performed was protected with pads and plastic plus they cleaned up everything before they left. Doors looks Great and we are Very Happy.

They provided all quotes and details in a very timely manner.

After several weeks of fielding estimates from multiple companies to replace 15 windows and 2 patio doors, we decided on Olson for 3 reasons: 1. Service - our salesman, Pat McGrath, was very knowledgeable and attentive to our project needs. At our initial meeting, he did a thorough walk-through of our home and took detailed notes & photos of each window & door. After discussing the features & benefits of the Simonton windows and Pella doors, he promised to provide a quotation within the next 3 days. Pat provided a quotation 3 days later and returned 2 days after that to discuss the quotation and demonstrate a sample of the Simonton window. Throughout the entire process, Pat was very knowledgeable of the Simonton & Pella products, and responsive to our questions/concerns. Once we decided to give our business to Olson, we had a meeting with Pat and Olson's General Manager, Dave Depinto, to finalize the details of our project and schedule installation for approximately 8 weeks later. 1 week prior to our install date, we received a confirmation call from Scott Olson. On install day, our installer, Marek, arrived punctually at 8am and began setting up the work site. Marek and his team installed both patio doors and all upstairs windows (6 openings / 10 windows total) on the first day. On the 2nd day, Marek arrived at 8am again and completed the installation of the downstairs windows (3 openings / 5 windows total), installed new interior trim, and capped & caulked each exterior opening. After installation was complete, Pat made a follow-up visit to make sure that we were satisfied with everything. Throughout the entire project, our interaction with the entire Olson team was very easy. Their response time to emails or phone calls was never more than several hours, and they were very knowledgeable and attentive to our project needs. 2. Quality - Making such a large investment in our home, we wanted to be sure that we were choosing not only high quality products, but also a company that would provide a high quality installation. Olson performed a "full frame/full fin" installation, in which the entire old window & frame were removed, and new window placed into the opening. We felt that this method provided us with the best combination of aesthetics and performance - brand new windows, brand new insulation & weather sealing, & brand new interior trim. The windows themselves look fantastic, and the overall look both inside and outside is perfect. More importantly, we have already noticed an improvement in our comfort level inside the house due to the increased energy efficiency of the windows. 3. Price - In choosing Olson, we feel that we got the best value for our money. Olson was not the cheapest quote we received, but they were not the most expensive either. For us, the deciding factor was that they provided a high quality product, a high quality installation, and great customer service.

I have no complaints about Olson, other than that when I asked questions about window qualities. The Olson rep came relatively promptly, did his work, talked things over and, within a bit more than a week, provided an excellent contract proposal, very thorough and complete (their five year workmanship warranty was especially noticeable). No complaints whatsoever with their rep or the way he operated. My one substantial issue was that, when I asked about the Pella 350 series, which was proposed for the window replacements, they passed me off to the rep for the window company instead of talking to me directly. I had read on the internet that the Pella 350 series had a design flaw. Some contractors didn't like the model at all for that reason. Pella had/has a great name for wndows, in particular, wooden window frames, but some said not as good for vinyl frames which we want for heat efficiency (the possible defect may extend only to the 350 series not the 450 series, as Consumer Reports seems to indicate, but we weren't interested in other than the 350 for cost). The Pella rep responded right away by email - and was a very nice man - and I thanked him for his informative email. But reading it thoroughly, he didn't really deal completely or, ultimately, to my satisfaction with what I had found on the internet about the 350 model. Again, Olson's okay. In fact, I may have gone ahead with Olson but for the design-flaw issue of the Pella 350 which wasn't resolved satisfactorily. Window replacement involves a **lot** of money and, in this frightful winter climate, a homeowner has to be very careful about what windows are going to be the replacement ones and what you are going to get from them. You don't want even the possibility of something going wrong with them. (It is very difficult getting straightforward information about window quality anywhere. Why aren't the Energy Star ratings readily available online or even in the store? They are all boxed up and hard to get to It's important for every buyer of windows in the Chicago area to have access especially to the U-Ratings of replacement windows, but also VT, AT, C and SHGC. Then again there isn't much by way of critical review of products online, although there are many many windows and window companies out there. The NFRC is window company funded, I believe.)

We had a couple of questions after the estimate appointment. They called back promptly, even on a weekend. They came when they said they would. There was an unexpected aspect of the installation. The installer clearly explained it, went to a store and got the needed pieces, and took care of it. The completed door looks fabulous and works perfectly. We would recommend Olson to anyone.

We were interested in Olson because of their strong ratings, and the fact that they offer a wide variety of brands and models of windows. We went with them because even though they weren't the cheapest option we had, we felt the product was significantly higher quality, the warranty was much better, the installation would be done by pros, and they really stand behind their reputation. Our experience with Olson was overall very good. The salesman we talked to was obviously very knowledgeable about the products and the process and was very open to questions and alternatives. He was very helpful about getting the paperwork through and cordial the whole time. When we were ready to place our order, I dropped the final paperwork and payment at the office; they were undergoing renovations at the time and my order must have gotten misplaced. A bit of time went by and when I didn't get a call about scheduling installation, I called to check in. The order hadn't been made. They were very apologetic and scheduled the installation as soon as possible after the windows came in. The install went very smoothly. We're in a townhouse, so we had to be very careful to keep the aesthetic of the windows the exact same and the guys did just that. We were in the process of figuring out the source of water infiltration, and the guys were great about letting me take pictures and showing me where the water was coming in and where it was going. Very helpful. (And as we suspected, it was NOT the old windows!) The windows themselves are exactly as advertised. Solidly built, well-made, and MUCH more energy efficient than the ones they replaced. Well worth the investment. When it comes time to replace others, we will call Olson again.

They did a wonderful job, on time, and very professional. This is the second time we have used and will continue to use in the future.

The whole process went really well. Brian Olson came to my house for estimate. He is very professional. The installation crew was punctual and professional. They checked any rotten spot around the opening and fixed them before putting up the windows or door. The servie after installation is also very good. The hardware was not delivered on the day of the installation, the service guys came two days later and upgraded the hardware to bronze from standard without any charge.

Well - on time, good job, efficient, good follow up on shutters install (needed to get new spikes)

From the initial sales visit to completion of the work this was a great company to work with. We were not interested in a high-pressure, sign today for the best deal type of company to work with. We were presented the options we asked about and given a helpful overview of the company (history, practices, what we could expect if we chose to move forward, etc). We had a detailed quote within a few days. We made a few changes to the quote and had a quick response each time. We ended up having some delays before we could move forward, on our end not Olson's, and had regular follow up from the company. When it came time for install the person that called us was friendly and pleasant. The installers arrived on time and prepared. Their workmanship was outstanding. They had to build a small frame to take up a gap between the casing and the window on the inside and I was very impressed with the craftsmanship. The guys were professional, cleaned up and did a great job. We have quite a few more windows to be replaced and the work will definitely be going to Olson. I would recommend them to family and friends without hesitation.

Their sales rep Brian was great! He was competitive with the price. For the Installation, they were on time and very clean! I would definatley recommend them!!

Removed, re-insulated and installed 9 windows. Showed up on time and completed the job in 1 day. Left the site neat and clean. Was extremely easy to do business with and had reasonable pricing.

They were very responsive to our needs, schedules and address any concerns promptly. They were extremely easy to work with, performed all details of the job in a professional manner and left the site clean and neat.

Brian came out to the site measured existing windows and was able to have custom windows manufactured that matched existing. Was extremely easy to work with and kept us informed of the progress of our order. Very pleased with the outcome of this project.

We have used Olson Windows for two major projects since 2013, and we are totally satisfied customers. Olson replaced all of the windows in our house (dates from 1957), and just finished re-siding our house with Hardie board siding. Both jobs were completed on time and within budget. Olson's staff was outstanding, especially Joe Hirschbein who managed the siding project. Each day the workers arrived on schedule, and when finished carefully cleaned up all construction debris. We plan on working with Olson again in the near future on other rehab projects, and would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone looking for quality windows, siding, or roofing.
