Olson Windows Doors & Siding

We used Olson to replace all windows and the entry door in our home this spring. We could not have been happier with the entire process. Kevin Dieball was our contact for Sales. He spent a lot of time in educating us about our options, did not try to push things that we did not need, and was always ready to answer questions. He also offered great suggestions that we acted on; we replaced two seldom-used patio doors with double casements. The end result was simply stunning. The installers George, Tammy, and their crew were exceptional. Their execution was perfect, they cleaned up every evening, and caused little to no disruption. The finishers were great too, and painted our trim and stained our front door with great care. We love the new look and functionality and would definitely recommend Olson to anyone in need of new windows.

The team at Olson Windows were very professional. There was a slight communication issue regarding when the painter could arrive. However, the painter more than made up for the delay by offer such special care to his work. He ensured that the color of the door matched the existing woodwork exactly. I really appreciated his imitative to ensure that the colors matched.

We got estimates from 6 window companies, noting all of the window attributes so we could make a fair comparison. All of them were quoting mid-grade vinyl sliders. The variety in pricing was astounding. Only Olson could do the job for under 10K and that included a new front entry door. We got quotes ranging from 14K to 9K without the door. Three of them, including Olson, listed window manufacturing details that were very similar, but attributed to different manufacturers. Most of the companies thought the job of full replacement was difficult to estimate and overestimated the price of full replacement because we have 2x6 framing with unusual window configurations. (Home was built in 1986 by Bigelow) Kevin at Olson, was not only confident the job could be done with quality, he was punctual, responsive and personable. His installation and finishing teams communicated the timelines to expect them, and they arrived timely. In addition, they gave me enough advanced notice about the preparation that I would have to do to make sure they could quickly get the job done. Complete removal of the old windows and replacing the sills, etc. is messy work, but they were diligent to cover electronics and furniture and took a lot of time to clean up. I love the new look of the windows and the entry door.

We had hail damage to our siding and roof. We selected Olson because we were so impressed with their level of professionalism and how responsive they were with our questions. Joe Hirschbein answered all of our questions, and we had a ton of them. We were so impressed with them that we added things to be replaced, outside of our insurance claim, because their prices were very competitive and we knew the job would get done properly. Joe and Mike were our project managers, and they were just great. If something came up, they called us right away. They always thoroughly explained things. They would check in with us on a regular basis to make sure everything was going okay, and that we were happy with the results. Our siding guys, John and Ken, we're just outstanding as well. They really took their time to make sure the job was done right. Our neighbors told us they had never seen a construction team that was so conscience about the job they were doing. They cleaned up every night before they went home. We could ways ask them questions. We were so happy with their work. We are thankful the project is complete. We had several weather delays, but they were well worth it. Olson made our house one of the prettiest houses on the street.

We are repeat customers of Olson Windows/Doors. They previously installed Pella replacement windows and doors in our home approximately 15 years ago. They are not the lowest cost estimate that we received, but we considered our own peace of mind to be worth the price based on our prior experience with the company.

This work was performed in January, but I have waited until April to write this review. When I have a big project done, I like to wait a few months, to make sure I really know what my opinion is. I would definitely recommend this company. The salesperson, Pat, was really helpful in making suggestions so that the project fell within my budget. The Beechworth windows I selected are of high quality. We did not feel the winds off the lake at all this winter! Installation (I think - trying to remember for sure) was done by Adam and the two workers were prompt, courteous, and had a high level of expertise. I had another project going on in my house at the same time and the difference in professionalism was like night-and-day. Finally, recently, I had problems with two of my windows. Here is where the real test of a company comes in. I called to report the problem and had a prompt call-back from Mike. He came to my house the next day, arrived a little early, and was able to fix the problems within minutes. This was a top-notch service experience. When I comment on a company, I like to be able to comment on all of the experiences - sales, installation, product, and service. I would highly recommend Olson in all four areas.

They stated that my order was too small and they said couldn't help me. The lady on the phone was short with me and told me I would need 4 total windows to be replaced. I would suggest that in their profile they notate that they can't help people unless it is above a specific dollar amount. I have a total of 28 windows in my home that at some point may have needed replacement. At this time, I would not consider using them in the future.

The to installers arrived exactly at 7:30am and finished at four. They were courteous, careful, professional the entire time, clean and all work was done to perfection! Drop cloths were used, there was no dust from the installation because they used a small vacuum to catch it as they drilled,etc. Furniture was moved carefully and put back exactly where it was. They had to move patio furniture for my neighbor below me and that was put back when they were finished. All garbage of any kind was removed from the area. They only took two short breaks and when offered water or soda they replied with a polite ""Thank No" they had what they needed. Before they left they asked me to look carefully at their work to see if I was statisfied and if I had any questions. We shook hands and I complimented them on their Work ethic and a job well done. The following week, painters were sent out to touch paint the white frames and their work ethic was the same. Yes, I did go into the office and tell them of my wonderful experience with their employees.

We had 2 failed windows on our first floor. We searched for months to find high quality wood replacements, trying to arrange for a sliding double wide door that was no longer operating properly to be replced at the same time. In the preceding months, we had reps from Anderson and Pella also provide pricing, financing options, and actual window options. I found a flyer from Olson at our local Ace Hardware store, and called them. We looked at options in their show room, and had Pat McGrath come to our home for measurements and to get firm pricing and delivery/installation info. Pat was the only sales rep at our home who risked losing the sale to be sure we would be happy with the visuals of what we were asking for. To get replacement windows to fit, they are not a normal width, we were looking at double hung units. Pat walked us to the back of our yard and asked us if we would be happy with double hung windows on part of the 1st floor (all that we could budget at the time) with the single crank windows on the 2nd floor. He suggested side slider windows. From the outside, these would look the same as the windows on the 2nd floor. We went to the warehouse to see what they would look like, and said yes, go ahead. We love them. Living near Lake Michigan, we know we have missed those wonderful lake effect breezes in the summers because we did not have windows with screens that fit properly. Olson warned us that custom delivery would take a while. We were not very patient as we really wanted the windows in! The pricing was so good we were able to expand our project from 2 windows and maybe 1 door to 4 large windows and 2 doors. Olson had arrangements for great financing over 2-years. The installers were quick, incredibly clean, and I only had to use 1 vacation day to get the entire project done. The stain sub was terrific too. He matched the wood, and coordinated the multiple visits around my schedule. He had a 1+ hour drive each way, so asking him to work around my schedule for a 30 minute follow-up session could have been problematic. Not at all. He kept in contact so if I was running late he accommodated my schedule. Wonderful! We waited for a full year to write a review to be sure the windows would survive the northern Illinois seasons. The 2014 and 2015 winters were brutal. The windows are great, and the doors with the full length sliding screens are a real delight. We have so enjoyed the lake effect spring, summer and fall breezes. Kudo's to Olson.

Olson's sales rep Tony was very courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. He took the time to explain the product and gave expert recommendations. The install team was punctual, courteous and super tidy, not one dust particular left behind. Excellent craftsmanship on the windows and install. The vinyl window "wood finish" looks perfect against my wood trim, you would never know they weren't real wood. Great, great job overall

Olson did a wonderful job handling our project. Met Scott Thorson through the Lake Zurich Chamber. He sent Dave (salesman) over to review our project. Dave spent time providing us with several window options for different budgets. After reviewing and seeing the styles a decision was made. We chose the Lindsay vinyl windows over the others. We are extremely happy!! Ziggy & Marek the two installers were awesome. Talk about clean, thoughtful & extremely on time everyday!! Wow, wish everyone was like them. 12-13 windows installed and not a spot of damage. The painter used arrived on time and did everything perfect to our satisfaction. Everyone left making sure we were happy. We would certainly use them again. Which will be soon once the weather breaks we will review siding.

Simply put, these guys are experts. I contacted five different A-rated companies from Angie's List about my project. I wanted a large window installed where there was only a wall (drywall on the interior, brick on the exterior). Nobody else was willing to even come out and quote the job. They all told me I needed to talk to a general contractor. I called Olson and Tony came out within a few days to discuss my project. Tony was awesome. The best part about working with Tony is that he previously worked as an installer -- he knew what was possible and what wasn't -- he'd done the work in the past. I've had problems with prior contractors where the sales guy just wants to close the deal and tells you what you want to hear, and then the guys actually doing the work complain that it can't be done, have to compromise, etc. This was definitely not the case with Tony. Tony was able to give me a range of options, how it would affect the look, and how it would affect pricing. It was exactly what we needed. We had Tony come out one more time before signing the paperwork to discuss the project with our carpenter who would be doing the finishing work, and he gladly discussed the options again with us and our carpenter so that we could all be confident that it would be done exactly as we wanted. When it came time to install the window, Tony came with the two installers to get them started and to make sure it was done exactly as we discussed. He then came back throughout the day to check on the progress. Since our project involved brickwork, and the weather was too cold at the time for this work, Tony came back again when the weather cooperated to ensure that the brickwork and remaining trim work were completed to expectations. The new window looks great -- better than we had even hoped, and we couldn't be happier with Tony and Olson Windows. We already have a few more projects that we've discussed with Tony and our carpenters, and we hope to move forward on those this summer.

Installation went very well...

Because I didn't start the process until late summer, Olson was very busy, but due of the dedication and professionalism of their crews I had my new roof put on in December. I also had some damaged siding (woodpeckers) repaired and new gutters installed, and it all looks great! The crews were respectful of my landscaping and cleaned up the area daily. When the project was completed I did notice a couple of issues (a vent fan in one of my bathrooms had come loose), however, Joe was there the next day with a ladder to reattach. Windows are next on my list and I will definitely call Olson's when I'm ready to tackle that project. I honestly can't say enough about how satisfied I am with Olson Window Doors and Siding!

After considerable research and price comparisons for windows and siding, Olson Windows and Doors was the contractor I chose to replace the siding and windows on my home. I chose Olson based on the knowledge, expertise and professionalism of Kevin Diebold of Olson Windows at the Warrenville location. Kevin patiently and thoroughly provided information regarding updating my home's siding and windows in addition to giving recommendations. After contracting with Olson, we set up an installation schedule which was adhered to from the very beginning. Kevin's crew that installed the windows/siding (George, Tammy, et al.) were prompt, professional, hard-working and helpful. Kevin and crew were extremely helpful in accommodating last minute requests (e.g., Kevin spent many hours locating decorative molding for me that I requested at the last minute). In addition to accommodating my last minute requests, Kevin continuously went the "extra mile" to make sure that all my requests were met. I can't say enough on Kevin's helpfulness to ensure that I was satisfied with Olson Windows. Kevin is a treasure and has consistently worked hard and long to make sure that I am satisfied. I highly recommend this contractor and enjoyed working with them on my home project. I am certainly glad that I chose this company. Thanks Kevin!

From the first phone call to the company to the last bit of clean-up everything went very smoothly. My sales man Dave came out back the end of August and explained in detail the windows and doors. I met him at the show room to see the windows I was ordering. I am doing a major remodel on my home and Dave was very good about getting the install on the days that it would not interfere with my carpenter. The installers would very pleasant to work with. They cleaned up after themselves and hung plastic to keep the dirt and cool weather out of the house. They explained things to me, and rehung my blinds on the new windows. I have a few more windows to replace in my home and I would use No other company then Olson. Their prices were right in the middle, and their customer service was the best! I am a single women navigating this remodel on my own and appreciate companies that explain in detail and don't take advantage of women. THANK YOU!

Bottom line: I would use Olson again for window replacement. Called and set up an initial appointment to discuss replacement windows. Salesperson (Pat McGrath) arrived on time and answered most of our questions. The ones he could not answer were mostly about installation specifics. He scheduled us to meet with Dave Depinto to get those questions answered. Based on cost, Angie's list reviews and their responses to our questions we decided to use Olson. We placed our initial order at the beginning of June, 2014 and our installation happened at the end of September, 2014. When we placed the order it was suggested installation would be in about 6 to 8 weeks but it was a bit longer than that, not sure if that was because Olson was so busy or the windows just took longer to get in. The installation of the windows went pretty smoothly. The install team arrived on time and they trimmed out the interior nicely and I'm very happy with the way they look inside. There are a couple things that I'm not 100% happy with on the outside. We had shutters installed on a couple of the windows and they ended up being a couple inches taller than the windows so they extend an inch above and below the trim around the windows. We also had a crosshead piece installed above a couple of windows and it ended up being 2 inches narrower than the windows so there is a 1 inch gap between the shutters and the crosshead. Not sure it would be something a casual observer would notice but the crosshead should extend to the edges of the windows and the shutters should not extend beyond the top and bottom of the windows. Almost all of the other homes in our neighborhood that have replacement windows with shutters and crossheads extend to the edge of the window trim and not beyond it or short of it. When asked about getting a slightly wider crosshead piece we were told that the style we chose was not available in a width 2 inches wider so there wasn?t much that could be done. I did go to the manufacturer?s website and found a similar piece that was the correct width but slightly different height and depth but Olson wanted to charge me for the new crosshead and I decided it wasn?t worth the expense. The crosshead also needed to be painted and I was not able to be home when the painter came out the first time. He was supposed to match the color of the shutters but the color ended up being "too red" so he needed to come out a second time to get it correct. One final comment is that they do offer a $50 gift card for positive Angie's list reviews, that being said, I would use Olson again for window replacement.

The Olson team is great at listening to your needs, very responsive, follow through and efficient at the installation process. They replaced 5 windows in the home in a half of a day and cleaned up everything afterwards. I would definitely recommend them.

Olson Windows provided the most complete, down-to-earth, non-sales pitch estimate that I received. I replaced all of the windows in my house and 2 sliding patio doors as well as had a third patio door removed. They built up the opening where the slider was removed, installed drywall, insulated and added cedar on the exterior as well as installed a 3-wide casement window to match the window on the opposite side of the room. My entire house has casement windows (some with a picture window in between). I went with Olson because they listened to my issues with the old windows (drafts around the frames, heat loss, rotting wood, etc.) and helped me find a quality mid-grade vinyl replacement that was efficient, cost effective and aesthetically appealing. I was pleased with their honesty about different products' positives and negatives. They didn't try to push me toward the most expensive products. Instead, they matched my needs with the product that best matched my list of requirements. I was impressed by the meticulous way the windows were replaced. They don't just pop out the old and pop in new. Instead, they took the time to make certain the windows were properly framed and weatherized to prevent leaking. We immediately noticed a reduction in noise, lack of any "drafts" and our cooling/heating vastly improved. The windows look great inside and out. During install, workers were courteous, hard-working and extremely tidy. The work area was spotless when they left (inside and out). There were a few glitches that caused a delay in installation (and 2 return visits to install the right window crank handles and slider foot locks) but all of these delays were a result of the manufacturer either being behind on shipping or sending the wrong parts. Olson staff members were courteous, quick to follow up and make things right and very concerned about our satisfaction. They take pride in a job done right--it shows in our final product. Our house looks so much better. We are noticing 2-3 degrees difference in room temperature (vast improvement) as well as a huge reduction in the noise from traffic on the streets nearby. I HIGHLY recommend Olson Windows. They don't push or hassle and do exactly what they promise. We had an excellent experience.

The estimator (Tony) came out to measure and provide written estimates. Tony explained the options for the doors and window in detail, and provided the written quotes promptly. Tony responded to all of our inquiries promptly and professionally. We selected Olson based upon the positive reviews here and our interactions with Tony. We had three estimates, and Olson's price was in the middle. The installation crew arrived at the time stated, and worked diligently all day long. They were courteous, hard-working, did an excellent job with the installation, and cleaned up spotlessly when finished. There was a bit of a miscommunication regarding the painting of the window, which Tony and Olson took care of immediately. Also, there were minor issues with the handle of the window (mfr. sent wrong part) and the handle on the sliding door screen (broken), which were taken care of immediately by the service manager (Mike, I recall). All in all, our expectations were exceeded, and I would not hesitate to recommend Olson to anybody in need of doors, windows and/or siding.

They did a perfect job installing the door and sent a wonderful painter who took great lengths to match the paint in the other doors.

I called to set up an appointment. The women who set up the appointment was personable and professional. Dave come out promptly within a week of calling to provide a quote on replacing one window and putting in a window. We decided to only go with the window replacement. He provided advice and information on the best types of window and the safest. It took several weeks to set up the appointment to have them installed. Dave came back out to do some measurements and show us the type of window that would be installed. He said the next appointment was about four weeks away in November. However, we got a call about two weeks later that they would come the next day at 1. The two men who installed the window were professional, personable, knowledgable and courteous. They installed the window in about an hour. We are glad to have it done before the winter season and for the safety of our child.

From start to finish the project went great. The sales part of the process was a learning experience for us, as this is the first time we purchased anything of this sort. We had two other vendors provide estimates, but with Olson we also received an education. The other vendors didn?t even come close to the great customer service we received from Olson. I would rate Olson?s responsiveness as an A+. We had several questions prior to signing the contract, and each time Brian Olson promptly called us with answers to our questions. Installation of the windows was smooth. We had two installers come out. They were courteous and paid attention our oncerns. I thought the shrubs would be ruined, but they were very careful, and there was no damage! I would highly recommend out installation team. We love the windows they installed. We went with Lindsey Windows and Pella Doors. They look great and are easy to use, which is important to me, as I have rheumatoid arthritis in my wrists and these kinds of tasks can be very difficult. I can?t praise Olson enough! We are so happy with the sales, service, installation and follow up by Olson Windows. I would highly recommend them.

I was so very impressed with the whole process. I was sure that when they took out the old doors that our house would be exposed to the elements for the day and that we'd have to deal with insects flying in, but they built an airlock out of plastic sheeting and we didn't get even one bug in our house even though they were working in the door openings most of one day. We got estimates from three highly rated Angie's listed companies, and I was so impressed with their professionalism in their presentation that we decided to visit their office before signing on the dotted line. (I am extra cautious and wanted to be sure that the company's infrastructure matched up with what they showed us in our home.) The doors are excellent, we couldn't be happier.
