The owner is a really good guy. They have great business sense, in terms of how they handle their billing. They have email billing, which is very nice. They are just very good.
Description of Work: They edge, mow, trim trees, and cut bushes. They do weekly maintenance on the lawn. We have been using them for three years. They have also done a small brick retaining wall in the past.

The project went like a dream. The crew showed up when promised, worked long hours and knew exactly what they were doing. The wall turned out much stronger and better looking than we could have expected. They listened to our concerns, made excellent suggestions and kept us informed during every step of the process.
Description of Work: This project rebuilt a crumbling 8-foot tall creek bank retaining wall along a 60-foot stretch of creek that is hit every big rain with fast-rising, powerfully moving water. The project required building a new base from huge stones, stacking a new wall with deeply inset anchor stones and covering the entire wall with a gabion curtain of chain-link. It also involved clearing obstacles from the center of the creek that were forcing the fast water to swirl against the banks.

I had sent Filipe an email and not heard back for several days. I assumed possibly the address was incorrect or he does not work by email as I had read a couple of other reviews that said he did not respond. I called him, and he answered. He came over on Saturday of Labor Day weekend to quote the job. I felt very comfortable with him and signed the purchase right then. He promised he would start that Thursday, and did. By the end of the day, he had the back stripped by hand. Friday he dug for irrigation and begun laying sod. Saturday he finished the irrigation and laid more sod. On Tuesday, he picked up more fresh cut sod and finished the job. I say, do not hesitate to use Ortiz based on professionalism, quality, responsiveness, etc. I would have made a stronger statement about his price, but I knew he was competitive and the comfort level is overwhelming. I did not get a second quote.
Description of Work: Back yard: Filipe stripped the existing weeds/soil, installed irrigation, filled with topsoil as needed, prepped the surface for sod and installed approximately 5 1/2 pallets of emerald zoysia sod. He replaced my Sentricon termite stations, did a great job on clean up, and took the time to explain the care and mowing of the turf and operation of the irrigation controller.

They did the work promptly and quickly. They were very professional.
Description of Work: I had a drainage problem that had bee addressed with a dry river bed. During last year's flooding the river bed washed out. Ortiz redesigned the dry river bed, dug it deeper, created a burm and filled it with larger rock. The laid pine straw and planted decorative grass around it.

Arrived on time, worked hard, conformed to their proposal and transformed the look and utility of the area. We were very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: Mr. Ortiz installed a french drain and some additional catch basins in our side yard which had been a 'swamp' after every rain. They were very astute and knowledgeable about what needed to be done and they left the area looking beautifully drained and finished.

The started within two days a completed phase one in 3 days and phase 2 in two days. Overall they were very timely in completing the jobs.
Description of Work: Ortiz trenched in beds, trimmed and pruned much overgrowth of plants, trees and schrubs. Treated with weed control and mulched beds. They did a beautiful clean up and curb appeal job. They also installed a brick paver pathway to my front steps that really added the curb appeal we were looking for.

Felipe of Ortiz Landscaping Services did an excellent job in all areas. He and his crew take their time to do the job right and do not rush. Felipe is very professional and was very attentive and on the job site each day and also did some of the work himself alongside his crew. When he wasn't on the site, he was available and quickly responded via phone. Felipe pays attention to detail and made several suggestions which we implemented to make the yard look better. He was always clear and fair about the cost. We highly recommend Felipe and his crew and will definitely use them again as needed. All our neighbors are admiring of our beautiful yard.
Description of Work: Installation of a 3 zone irrigation system and control box; re-grade, till, & prepare soil in rear and side yards and add soil conditioner and install 5-6 pallets of sod; install 140 bales of pine straw; install stone pad and stone pathway; install 4 1/2 yards of pine bark in play area; retrench all beds in yard and clean up and fix several grades on beds against house; move large stone boulder; removal of yard debris

Before Filipe came most of the yard was unuseable due to ditches, overgrown weeds, dead trees, steep slopes etc. Now we have a beautiful yard that we can actually use! Filipe is great about transplanting things you already have to save you money and make the most of what you have. Everything he quoted us for was very reasonable and less expensive than other companies. His crew was on time, polite, and they all worked very hard. Filipe was easy to reach by cell phone and he would go over the projects on a daily basis so we could keep track of everything. I would definitely recommend him.
Description of Work: Filipe Ortiz created a landscape plan to make our 2 acre yard beautiful. He removed some dead trees, graded steep slopes, addressed drainage issues using river rock and rip rap stone, built a playground box for our new swingset, and created steps and several walking paths using gravel and stepping stones and a very nice wooden bridge. He also installed pinestraw and selected beautiful plants for our yard. They completely updated our existing sprinkler system and put down topsoil, seed and straw for new grass which is growing beautifully.

My home is is a very well-maintained subdivision, but my yard had not been attended to (aside from the basics of mowing, weeding, etc.) for many years. Felipe Ortiz provided excellent suggestions for improvements to improve curb appeal and fix some trouble spots (I'm about to sell the house). Though the total cost may seem high, much of that went for materials: wood chips, mulch, pine straw, fill dirt, etc. The yard now looks spectacular...my realtor was VERY impressed with the results and asked for Felipe's info for herself and other clients! They were absolutely professional from start to finish, and finished sooner than projected.
Description of Work: Designed new look, redefined beds, laid ground cover over 3/4 of large yard, filled a few holes/ low spots, cleaned up whole yard, set down new grass seed.

Felipe Ortiz and his installation crew members Daniel and Juan did a fantastic job meeting our landscaping and drainage needs. Our back yard was washing away, it's steep pitch, lack of proper drainage and had 2 badly deteriorated retaining walls / boxes approx 48' long x 7' wide. The old RR timbers were removed, new foundations cut, over 100 6"x6"x8' pressure treated timbers were installed with deadmen every 8-10 feet. The walls are beautiful. Those walls will be there for the next 100 years. He built a elegant staircase, transitioning into our preexisting hardscape on the right side with platforms onto each level for easy access in planting, plus he installed ground cover to prevent immediate erosion. Good thinking! They also built a very large concrete catch basin with two 6" corrugated drains along the property line gulch to trap the runoff and pipe it under ground to the creek 30 yards away. This greatly reduced the cross drainage from the neighbors inclined property to ours. There are 3 down spouts on the back of the house, these were piped under ground, 2 into the catch basin constructed and the other under the fence line 30' away. Then they installed 4 loads of top soil along the brick foundation where years of erosion had caused a wet basement and they filled the retaining boxes in the back yard, plus numerous dog digging holes. On top of all that they spread 60 bales of Long Pine straw, having disposed of all old ties and other debris, and cleaned up the entire yard. It looks like a new back yard. No more rotted, falling retaining walls where the dogs can dig, no more trip and fall hazards, no more wet basement and soil loss due to poor drainage and erosion. They showed up every morning and worked past sunset, they did all this, by hand, no machinery access, in just 8 days. They were all very gracious in their mannerism, respectful of our property and animals, flexible with the sudden changes and challenges that always come up with these projects, and a great value, a very mutually beneficial business transaction. That's the best kind, we all won. I will be recommending them to my family, friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Remove and install 2 sets of retaining wall / planting boxes approx 48 linear feet 5 to 6 timbers high. Install steps, approx 14 Clean up old crossties and trash removal. Build catch basin run 2 50' x 6" drain pipes. Plumb 3 downspouts. Install 4 loads top soil. Install 60 bales Long Pine straw. NO machine access all must be carried in and hand dug.

Mr. Ortiz had replaced an old deteriorating concrete patio with a beautiful stone for us last year. So we waited until he could do this job. The work with the driveway went very well. He demolished and removed the old asphalt and cement surface. All of the debris was placed in two dumpsters and hauled away After removing the old surface, he graded, surveyed the bare surface to assure that water drained away from my house and my neighbor's house, properly. The very subtle slope between our homes channels water directly to the street. He laid the forms after measuring and then the concrete was poured and leveled. It was amazing to see the crew measure and make the extension joints for the driveway. Rain was predicted for the last day of the project, and to protect the surface the team placed a tarp over the driveway to protect the finished job. After completeing the project the yard and property were cleaned and he left barriers to assure no one would try to use the driveway until it was properly cured. We are exceptionally pleased. This was a big, expensive project. We chose Felipe because we knew he would get it done and done right. These days, it is rare to find a man who takes such pride in his work. Felipe and his crew are outstanding. ADDENDUM 5 26 11: I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FINE MISTING RAIN THE DAY THE CONCRETE WAS POURED WOULD NEGATIVELY IMPACT THE DRIVEWAY, BUT ORTIZ ASSURED ME, THAT SINCE IT WAS NOT A HARD RAIN IT WOULD NOT HINDER THE JOB. MONTHS LATER AS THE CONCRETE WAS CURING, WHEN SWEEPING THE DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS LOTS OF CONCRETE DUST, SO THAT NOW PARTS OF THE DRIVE POURED IN THE MIST ARE DETERIORATING AND MUCH OF THE TOP LAYER OF THE DRIVEWAY IS DOWN TO THE GRAVEL, AND THE SMOOTH TOP SURFACE IS GONE. CALLED ORTIZ FOR A YEAR, HE CAME OUT AND SAID HE WOULD RETURN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO,HE HAS NOT RETURNED, HENCE THE CHANGE TO MY ORIGINAL ASSESSMENT OF THIS JOB. THIS JOB WAS COMPLETELY UNSATISFACTORY!!!!!
Description of Work: Mr. Ortiz and his crew fully removed a 95 foot long asphalt driveway, graded and poured a metal re-enforced concrete driveway.

We originally contacted Ortiz to replace three aging railroad tie retaining walls and their attached stairs. He arrived on time and gave us a quote that matched our expectation. We chose to replace the railroad ties with landscape timbers since we live in a very natural setting. To be honest, not everything went perfectly at first. Felipe called us out to show us a mistake he made, got our input, and fixed it at no charge. I wish everyone dealt with their mistakes pro-actively. We discovered that an existing section of seemingly solid retaining wall was in fact very rotten. When they pulled out that existing wall, we discovered that a drainage problem caused water to pool against the house foundation and that retaining wall. Ortiz installed a short section of foundation drain and replaced some downspout drainage; plus he dug a trench for a new 6-inch drain pipe. Bottom line, during our recent flood, all the water went where it's supposed to go. As for the original for our call, the retaining walls have been replaced and look great. Along the way, he fixed a few other odds and ends for us. We are extremely pleased. During construction, Felipe asked for some cash to cover building material purchases. No issues related to that. The accounting was all detailed and complete. The project was not done when originally planned, but considering there were two weeks of heavy rain, including a "500-year flood," I'm completely comfortable with the project progress through completion. Felipe is easy to work with and did a great job.
Description of Work: Replaced two long and two short retaining walls, reconstructed two exterior stairs, diagnosed a foundation drain problem, leveled a section of yard, and ran a ~150' six inch drain.

Mr. Ortiz responded to my request for an estimate the very next day. He was courteous, explaining the work involved in the job I wanted in a respectful, professional manner. He arrived when promised, was there everyday until the job was completed and cleaned-up afterwards. There were no surprises or problems.
Description of Work: We had a sizable (over 600 sq. ft.) painted concrete patio that was totally resurfaced. Mr. Ortiz and his crew removed the loose areas of concrete and prepared the remainder for the new surface by removing most of the paint. The natural stone was installed on the surface, steps and two sides of the patio wall. Shrubbery was also installed around the patio.
