Ortiz showed up on time and was very professional. He took the time to listen to my needs and ideas. He took the information and put together a proposal. His response time was very quick. While we did not use his services due to another project taking priority, Ortiz would have been a company we use.
Description of Work: I wanted a quote on redoing my front yard landscape.

Mr. Ortiz is a very busy man..but that's because he is so good! We had a little trouble getting in touch with him for a day or so but once we did all was fine. He laid 8 pallets of grass, and installed a rock drain all in 2 days. When the job needed to be done he was out working, doing it himself. Worked from dawn til dark. I would highly recommend his service. Very honest and respectful. We will definitely use his service again when we install our sprinkler system! A+++!!

Jesus showed up with his two helpers, on time and really cared about doing the job we wanted done, Very pleased. Very glad I gave Ortiz landscaping and his willingness to help me by connecting me with someone who could. I will give him a call and Jesus in the future.
Description of Work: Ortiz Landscaping could not accommodate our schedule but recommend Jesus who came on a Saturday and gave me a fair quote and was willing to come the next AM. He did a great job. Jesus trimmed shrubs and cleared weeds in beds near house. He did a great job shaping and clearing. up.

It was an excellent project... they did what they said they would. Felipe and Juan showed the quality of their workmanship when they started grading the base for the pavers. The entire surface was leveled with a long bubble level and the grade was sloped to exactly 1 inch per foot as described. They even installed polymeric sand between the pavers, instead of river sand, so that when wetted and dried, it became very hard so it would not track in our hardwood floors.
Description of Work: Remove and dispose of concrete patio, install paver patio with edge wall consisting of large paver blocks set in mortar and connected together with mortar - like bricks only pavers. Also removed sod around the outer edge of the new patio, tilled the soil, and covered with 3-1/2 of compost.

Mr Ortiz was on time for both the quote and all work done. We had a dead tree that was swaying in the recent storms and he came out the next day and removed it. Many companies took days to come out (if they even showed up at all ) to give estimates and then days to come up with the pricing but Mr Ortiz came out quickly and we knew the price before he left. He also stayed w/i our budget and did some extra edging at no additional cost. He was polite and professional and worked hard along with his crew. We will use him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Mr Ortiz removed a dead tree, put in sod and mulch, built a stone edge around the flower beds, cleared the back yard of all weeds and underbrush, trimmed all bushes, and some general landscaping.

We are all very pleased with the timing, quality of materials and final product. We would certainly recommend Ortiz to anyone looking for a quality work and a fair price
Description of Work: Felipe Ortiz originally rebuilt the retaing wall over the stream that crosses under our driveway. The other side of the driveway began to give way so we call Felipe back and he did a great job on that side. THe materials used were first quality and well construccted. We referred him to my sister to relandscape the front lawn and she was very pleased as well. Additionally herebuilt the driveay of our next door neighbors.

His was the best estimate of all those we contacted, and he even lowered the estimate further when I told him the areas where we wanted to save money. He turned up on time, had a good look at the lawn as we stood there with him, and gave an estimate on the spot. He called back later to find out what we decided and that's when he readjusted the estimate. In the end, we decided to do the work ourselves, but that was the only reason we didn't use his services. (If we don't do a good job on the lawn, we will certainly call him to fix it!)

I liked that they were prompt and that they were considerate of my property and my belongings and they did what they said they were going to do. I found them on Angie's List and will continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: They did a lot of landscaping for me. They leveled my back yard and they filled it and put in mulch and then completely pulled out all the plantings on one side of my front yard and replanted with new shrubs.

I called Ortiz and asked for an appointment for an estimate due to his A grades.Ortiz said he would call me and advise if he could come Friday. He said if If he could not come Friday, he could do Monday. I was asked to call him back and leave a msg on his cell with all details because he said he could not write it down. This is a business? He never came on Friday. He also never called me on Friday..... Or Saturday. He called Sunday and asked if he could come Monday and I said yes, I would be home all day.I never heard from him again until today, Tuesday. He said he was caught on a job, and I told him he could have called. I told him not to call me again because I do not do business with people who cannot keep their word andpeople who don't telephone me when they can't come. I realize things change, but it is plain rude and poor business to leave you hanging and waiting. I can't do business on the basis of when he might decide to show-up. I suspect his work is cheaper than others, but I want someone who will show-up...or call.
Description of Work: No work done due to failure of Ortiz to keep his word and to communicate with me.

I have a townhome and the sod the builder put in died within 4 months after closing despite constant watering. I was advised by them they were not responsible for the yard after closing so I had to pay for it myself. I contacted Felipe because of his proximity to my location and the fact he had an A grade. Communications were a little slow at first, but once we made an appointment for him to come out and give me an estimate, he showed up promptly and performed the work the next day. I am elated that I now have green grass where once resided dry brown dirt and sand. I highly recommend Felipe and know my neighbors are going to be "green" with envy.
Description of Work: Felipe looked over the back yard and took measurements to determine how many pallets of sod I would need. He advised that I needed to have the back yard tilled to get some good soil to the top, and then he put down top soil and laid the sod so it would have something to adhere to.

Mr Ortiz and his crew came out and took down the trees I needed taken down. He cut them into pieces and made neat, nice, and natural looking piles in the woods behind my house. They cleaned up all the loose debris. This was done all at a price that was lower that some of the quotes recieved for just placing the trees on the ground. I am very, very pleased.
Description of Work: I had to take down a number of pine trees in my backyard due to pine beatle infestation and there were a couple of trees extending over my pool which increased pool maintenance and reduced sunlight.

He was there early and stayed most of the day but he only had one other employee and he did not have very sophisticated equipment that would have made the job easier and quicker and that was defintely reflected in the price I paid. I have never paid that much for just yard work yet as I mentioned, I was in a bind and agreed to the price. Since he did not haul the debris away the yard needed cleaning a short time later when the work that I paid for should have been the last leaf cleaning of the season. What is even more frustrating is this guy had a number of excellent reviews so how legitimate is this site? Am I really the only person he overcharged? I had to pay for this information. I do not mind paying for quality and the fact that this gentleman seemed professional and was available to get started quickly after I spoke to him was what led me to pay more than I normally would have for this type of work. The fact that my experience was typical of the type of service one receives in this day and age is what caused me to put the work off to begin with. If anyone knows a quality, trustworthy and fairly priced yard service and contractor, I would love their contact info.
Description of Work: While the contractor was quick to respond to my call and was able to get to the work quickly, his prices were outrageous!!! There were a good many leaves but the original quote was $500 just to rake, really? I was in a bind so tried to talk him down but he still charged $400 to rake a small yard, he did not even collect the debris and haul it away. He basically blew the leaves back in the wooded area behind my home. He charged $150 to clean the gutters which is probably avearage and he did a good job there, He wanted $250 to pressure wash a small home that was not that dirty. I declined that offer. I admit there were a good many leaves but it is not my fault he did not have the equipment to handle the job efficiently. He only had one other employee and they did work most of the day but still took home about $80/hour so I believe they were well compensated for their efforts. I think there is an obvious reason why he was so readily available. I am also disappointed in Angie's List because I actually had to pay to get this guys contact info. .

Ortiz showed up right on schedule with his tree guy, stump grinder guy, and his big yellow loader. He started by taking out a section of my fence so his loader could get in and out and then proceeded to take down the two pines. I never saw any drawing or written plan beyond the basic punch list of items he wrote out on his quote sheet. It was obvious, however, that any input from me beyond, "I need you to fix my yard so I can sell my house" wasn't necessary. The man is a master of his machine and a true artist. He gave me periodic updates as he dutifully executed on the plan he had worked out in his head. I let him know repeatedly, "that all sounds good" as I watched Ortiz and his men regrade my yard in a single day. His original proposal was to install a fresh layer of top soil over the new grade and then seed with fescue and hay. I knew this time of year that he couldn't guarantee the outcome, but he seemed confident (and I was asing for cheap!). It wasn't until late in the afternoon on day one that he suggested sod as an alternative to seeding. My immediate reaction was $$$, but when he quoted $1,500 for Bermuda - which I knew would be viable since most of my trees are gone - I agreed to that plus an additional $500 for him to install another load of river rock to refresh the river rock terrace. On day two, he ordered the sod and returned with his crew to finish up with the small trees and clean up the debris. On day three, he returned to install top soil, pine straw, and river rocks. On day four he returned to install the sod. The end result is simply amazing!
Description of Work: I recently decided to move to Denver, so ahead of selling my house, I knew I'd have to spend some major bucks to get my back yard in order. The major problem was a big sink hole that had increased in size over the years - "are you putting in a pool?" was a question I heard more than a few times! I also had two pig pines I needed removed; one was dead and the other needed to come down because it was too close to the sink hole. I had previously removed a few pine trees, so between dog wear and tear on what was the once grassy area and the lack of pine straw to add a ground cover over the natural area every fall, my yard had become a muddy mess. In late 2010 I had a river rock terrace installed around my back porch to cover and contain the muddiest areas and to add something else for the dogs to wipe their muddy paws on when it's wet outside. On Wednesday, December 21, I contacted Ortiz and one other landscaping company who like Ortiz had received glowing reviews on AL. I sent both companies a .pdf I had created with some pictures and a narrative description about what I needed done. Ortiz came out on Monday, December 26 to take a look and provided a written quote right then: remove two existing pines and small trees; regrade back yard; back fill settled area; compactation of settled area; top soil new level area; seed and straw to grow fescue; prune all trees. I haggled with him a bit and settled on $4,500 right then. I really liked this guy and was ready to get this done (the other company inexplicably couldn't get to my house until Monday, January 9 just to give me an estimate).

After several miscommunications with Felipe about giving us an estimate, we finally made a connection. He and a couple of workers started in that very day even though it was late in the afternoon. This was a huge clean up job and they did an EXCELLENT job going well beyond our expectations and leaving our yard beautifully trimmed and manicured. We will most definitely use them again!

I called Mr. Ortiz to find out about getting an estimate to have our backyard sodded. He answered the phone and told me that he would be glad to come out and give me a free estimate. He said that he would most likely come out on Saturday, and he would call and let me know for sure. I didn't hear anything by Friday, so I called him again. He said that he could come out at 1:00 on Saturday. He came out and took measurements of our yard. He really spent a lot of time and gave us a very good descriptive estimate. He also explained things to my husband about what needed to be done to the yard. Unfortunately, his price was $1500 more than the lowest estimate. All providers that we called were from Angie's List.

Since they didn't have the courtesy to even call me, it went really bad. Companies like this (and this one was listed first on Angie's List!) are why I dread the process of even trying to find contractors to perform residential services. Most of them are flakes and this is most certainly one of those.
Description of Work: I left two voicemail messages requesting that someone call to arrange to come to my house, look at my needs and give me a proposal for landscape maintenance as well as some major landscape projects including driveway, retaining walls and fencing. From start to finish, Mr. Ortiz and his crew were exceptional. We would highly recommend their services to anyone. Our experience began with a meeting with Mr. Ortiz where he helped us develop our plan and provided a free quote. He and his crew arrived on the scheduled day and worked every day, all day until the job was finished. They were professional, highly competent, tidy and very friendly. It was like having friends here working in the yard. The results of their efforts are spectacular. They transformed our yard into a beautiful oasis. We never dreamed it could look this great. Not only was the work spectacular, Mr. Ortiz went far and above by coming to our house over the weekend to water the grass he had just installed because he knew we were away. Who does that? Ortiz Landscaping Services is definitely the way to go!
Description of Work: Mr. Ortiz and his crew completely remodeled our backyard. They leveled the ground, built a beautiful retaining wall with two sets of recessed stairways, installed proper drainage, put in several paver walkways, built a paver patio and put in new grass.

Mr. Ortiz arrived at the agreed time and date. He observed, evaluated and explained the rational for resolving each issue. He spent over an hour measuring and obtaining data. His estimate was broken into segments with the cost for partial or complete resolution. I made a deposit for the complete project. He and his crew started the next day. There was a very overnight heavy rainstorm. It washed away some of the topsoil. Mr. Ortiz replaced the soil to the original level before the sod was placed. All debris was removed. Lawn, driveway and sidewalks were raked, blown or swept clean. I am amazed and very pleased with how much better my lawn and challenging areas now look. I appreciate Mr. Ortiz's attention to detail, professionalism, and knowledgable advice. Based on my experience, I would recommend his services without reservation.
Description of Work: My front lawn had depressed areas, dead tree roots and balding spots. Remnant tree roots were removed and lawn was leveled with top soil and bermuda sod was installed. Eroded side areas were also leveled and sod installed. Eroded back areas were sodded with emerald zyosia. An additional sprinkler head was extended from an existing line. Mongo grass was planted and mulched with pine straw. Landscape timbers were replaced to arrest a sloping, eroding area. Concrete s*** was cut away to make a safe step from patio surface to the new zoysia turf. Low hanging tree limbs were pruned to allow more sunlight and irrigation on the new sod. All sodded areas were prepared with approximately four inches of top soil. All sodded areas were watered and rolled.

Felipe came to my home and gave me an estimate on the work that needed to be done. Within a week they started the job. They worked hard for three days and the projects were completed. The cleanup was great. The crew was polite.
Description of Work: Ortiz Landscaping owned by Felipe Ortiz did a couple of projects. 1) Remove 15 yr old retaining wall made of railroad ties and replaced with pressure treated wood. The new wall is beautiful and the crew did a fabulous job with cleanup. 2) Drainage problems on side yard - The crew removed a huge tree stump and brought in dirt and rocks and created a dry creek with additional landscaping and stepping stones. It works beautifully and have received several compliments. 3) Water under the deck - The fix was to take the drainage pipes and combine a couple of them and run them underground for about 15 feet. This removes all water from under the deck. They also fixed the front side-yard that needed sod and it is growing beautifully and looks fabulous. Felipe and crew were very prompt, polite, and experienced in this area and offered recommendations to my problems. The price was fair and I will use them again.

After a very negative experience, I've concluded that this vendor inconsistently cherry picks and chooses who to provide services for. Per our phone conversation, he identified himself as the owner and assured me that he performed services in my area of the type I requested. He then asked me to give him an email describing the work I wanted done, and to provide contact information and a convenient time to meet for an estimate. I sent the first email immediately following the phone conversation, and a follow up email two days later, both of them to the email address he provided on the phone. Neither email bounced, so I must assume that he got both of them. I never got an acknowledgement of either of my emails, nor was I contacted in any way by this vendor again. I wasted an entire week waiting for a response from him and never got one. I only hope I have an opportunity in the future to warn someone who is seeking landscaping services not to try and contact this guy.

Felipe was a professional from start to finish. It took about a week for him to come out and give us an estimate, but during that time he stayed in contact with us to let us know his schedule. He started the wall late on a Monday afternoon and to our surprise he finished about 75% that day. He was out the next morning, in the drizzling rain, to finish the wall. When the dirt was delivered Felipe put down boards to protect the grass from being dug up by the bobcat. Felipe was a master on the bobcat. He had the dirt from the front yard to the backyard in no time. He finished up leveling, planting the seed and relaying the brick walk in back and the stepping stones in the side yard. The stones and walk look much better than before. He also gave me some advice about filling the gaps with paver base material rather than sand. He was very neat with the project. He always picked up tools and all other material at the end of the day. He pressured washed the driveway and street and blew off the stepping stones and walk. All of this work was done in five days. We would highly recommend Felipe for any landscaping project. His pricing is reasonable and his work is superb.
Description of Work: We had our backyard leveled and retaining wall built to hold the soil. The large equipment needed for this project required a portion of fence to be removed, as well as stepping stones and a brick walkway. A 3ft x 50ft wall was built with landscape timbers. The timbers for the wall were leveled, nailed, braced and all but the top board was covered in soil. Approximately 3 dump trucks of soil was brought in and spread. The soil was packed down to prevent any wash and was designed so water drained to the back of the property. Grass seed was spread and straw was put down. Walkway and stepping stones were replaced. A fence company installed a new fence. Flower beds and islands were mulched with approximately 8 yards of hardwood mulch. A portion of the back yard was a wild area and 15 bales of pine straw were used to cover this area.

I really enjoyed working with Felipe and his crew. I thought they did a great job and I appreciated Felipe's creative input on the yard design. At first it was just a regrade project but I added irrigation and a retaining wall.
Description of Work: Had 9-10 loads of dirt hauled in and backyard graded (it was very steep and uneven). Ortiz did a lot of brush clean up as well during the prep stage. They also installed a stone retaining wall and installed 5 zones of irrigation. Lastly, they removed a few trees and transplanted several shrubs.
