I have a regular service contract. a year ago after the service I was told the fan needed to be cleaned out and some other jobs. I was told it could wait but should be done next year. a price was quoted for the jobs. I was told that doing the cleaning would make my system run more efficiently and last longer. I saved for the job and it was done at the price quoted. I could see the service person worked very thoroughly.
Description of Work: clean out the entire system.

Empire was very professional from start to finish. They were they only company to actually count the supply and return registers in the house to make sure the system was balanced. They made recommendations at several price points and were they only company I received an estimate from that seemed to be aware of the available Federal tax credits for installing high efficiency systems. Highly recommended. At least get an estimate from them. You will be impressed. Follow up maintenance service call also very impressive. Thank you Empire!
Description of Work: Empire replaced the existing A/C system, Furnace and thermostat and installed one supply duct.

Chris Adolph and Empire did an awesome job replacing our aging HVAC system. They worked with me for customizing system to our needs and were prompt, professional and very respectful of our home. Their price was fair and the system has been working great for the last year, in addition we were able to get a $1500 tax credit on tax return this year which also helped out.

By the end of April it was already warm enough to need the air conditioning at least some days. Ours stopped working. Unfortunately, the company with which we had had a service agreement was no longer in business. We got a list from Angie's List and started calling. Several companies either wouldn't come out at all or wouldn't come for a week or two. Finally, Empire agreed to come out within two days. Essentially, our unit was worn out - cheap contractor grade unit with only a five year warranty and it had been nine years. They repaired it and gave us a new maintenance agreement for $292. Unfortunately, they said the fix wouldn't last; the unit needed to be replaced. They researched the unit we had for warranty information and gave us several options. I really appreciated that they gave up options from doing the least amount of work (for the least amount of money) to going ahead and upgrading the system to include the basement we had partially finished but never included in our heating and a/c. We opted to upgrade and include the basement. They came out on 5/11 and put in the new air handler, heatpump, duct work for the basement, and dual controllers (for the basement and main floor). They were punctual, proficient, and professional. Their advice was great. While it cost a lot for the system, we now can both heat and cool the main floor and basement for the same monthly price we were paying for just the main floor. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Initially this was an emergency repair trip. They got the system up and running but we needed a new system, which they installed about two weeks later. This involved a new heatpump, a new air handler, and new duct work to handle our partially finished basement.

I knew replacing an HVAC system would be a major investment and so I spent quite a bit of time educating myself about HVAC systems and getting estimates. One thing I learned is the importance of the installing company to do a full analysis of the home to come up with what is called a "heat load/cooling load" calculation - also sometimes called a "manual j". Mr. Chris Adolph from Empire HVAC did a thorough job of going through every room in my home, noting down the specs. He didn't hesitate squirming through my (disgusting) crawlspace either to investigate the duck work for issues. He also noted down concerns I had in my home concerning temperature variances from room to room. Empire provided a very reasonable estimate that included new high efficiency gas furnace, AC unit and new duct work for $8500 that would qualify for a $1500 tax credit. Mr. Adolph also over the following weeks provided at my request several other estimates for higher-end equipment combinations. I had worked with five different companies in getting quotes and in the end it came down to empire and one other company. I chose the other company because it was a slightly less expensive. Still, Empire's bid was competitive and I don't hesitate to recommend them.

I was very disappointed by this company. Reviews on Angies List had been good, the customer service representative told me there would be one flat fee of $88 for the service call and shared that during the service call, I would learn what the estimate for the work would be. Sounded fair. When the serviceman came, he was clearly in training, took over 4 hours to provide me the estimate (I missed an appointment waiting on him), had to call and wait for his supervisor to come to help him figure out what he needed to know, and performed a service that I didn't ask for and wouldn't have authorized to pay for (overriding the defrost board; it was unnecessary in my situation). I was then charged for the additional service. What was so frustrating for me was that when I called his supervisor to ask that the additional charge be credited to my bill when I had them return to do the actual work I'd paid for the estimate on, he shared that there was not one flat fee for the service call, that's for 30 minutes and then you're charged for any time after that. Yes, the customer service representative and the service person both are supposed to have told me that, but oh well, they didn't. (Obviously, no one from his company needed to actually take responsibility for this). And he even mentioned that "hadn't I gotten a deal to only be charged that much for 4 hours of work"! (Four hours of my time for them to train their own service person.) He was rude and dismissive and clearly not helpful at all. The poorest service from this company was not from the serviceman in training who barely spoke to me during his 4 hour visit, but rather, this supervisor. In the end, I went with another company recommended by Angies List which did the work (plus cleaned my coil and troubleshooted a loose cap issue) for $150 less than their estimate for the second half of the work alone. I will save myself trouble and money by working with this company (or frankly anyone other than Empire) in the future.

Empire and Chris A. went above and beyond the call of duty. I would highly recommend them and will use their company for all of our future HVAC needs.
Description of Work: I searched on Angieslist for the best customer reviews when shopping for a new AC system. Chris A. came out and listened to our needs and evaluated our goals in replacing the system. We had a 15 year old builder type system that was outdated and in need of serious repair - it was time to just start over. Chris gave us several different options and addressed concerns I had such as installing AC unit in a new location, and using a super high efficiency furnace instead of a heat pump in order to still qualify for a tax credit next year. (From the research I had done apparently there are many problems with using heat pumps in the humid Southeast and we preferred to avoid "dirty socks syndrome" and constant ongoing duct cleaning). Empire was awesome in constructing a system that met our specialized needs.

Our air conditioner quit cooling. After another company charged us $225 to assess the problem, refused to horry the warranty, and wanted $2,250 to repair the unit, we contacted Empire. After explaining that we had a leak in the coil and I wanted a second estimate, they agreed to provide a technician to assess the situation for $84.00. He was very responsive and thoroughly explained the problem which was the same as I had been told. However, he intiated a call to the manufacturer to check on the warranty which it was honored. He order a new coil and replaced it for about $1,400 less than the first estimate. The technician was courteous, knowledgeable, and most helpful.

Empire was extremely helpful and responsive. I was so impressed with their professionalism and willingness to be expedient with my needs. You can tell they really care a great deal about service. Initially, they came out to just do maintenance, which is the reason I thought the air wasn't cooling very well. David came out and spent about an hour checking out my system, changing the filter, etc. He was very thorough. He told me I was low on frion and he had put more in. When he left, the house was cooling with no problems. About 10 days later, the system was not cooling again. That was frustrating. But, when I called Empire again, they made an appt very quickly and David came back out to the house. He found a frion leak. But what I appreciated was that he didn't stop there. He spent quite a bit of time inspecting the entire system and found my compressor was also overheating. Instead of just telling me they would fix the leak, he wanted to be sure everything else was working so that I didn't have a problem in the long run. He must have spent over 2 hours at my house and then reported back that he did think replacing the evaporator coil (the source of the leak) was all I needed. Two days later, after the part came in, two great guys came out to install the new part. They were great - professional, on time, and took time to answer my questions. After they left, I had a concern that my thermostat was inefficient given its age and even if the house started cooling, that it would not read the interior temp and the fan would not shut off - something I talked to them about earlier that day. I called Empire and asked them if they had anyone who could come install a digital thermostat that same day. Empire was great. They found someone who could come out and do it, which allowed me to not have to take more time off to get that part replaced. The man who came by to install the thermostat was so nice and kept a positive attitude even when the part wasn't cooperating as he would have liked. It took him well over an hour and put him in 6pm Friday traffic, but he never stopped smiling and remained positive and courteous. Now, my system is cooling beautifully (and I can now see the true temp in the house!). Empire was very impressive. I had no concerns or frustrations would with them. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: My A/C wasn't cooling the house. They did maintenance, installed a new evaporator coil system, and installed a new thermostat in the house.

It was a very pleasant experience. It was on a Saturday and was not sure if someone would have been able to come out the same day. Not only was it the same day, but it was within two hours of my initial phone call (that includes the repair work and travel time). Raymond was very nice and very informative. I would recommend them to anyone and will consider hiring them to replace my current HVAC system when the time comes.
Description of Work: Woke up Saturday morning to no heat and a freezing house. The technician came out within a few hours of my initial phone call. He spent about 30 minutes which included replacing a bad thermal coupler. He also cleaned out some of the debris in the furnace (which is 25 years old) that normally occurs. He was extremely honest and very informative.

My air conditioner stopped working on a hot August day. The fan was working, but it wasn't putting out cold air. Ben came that same day to diagnose and fix the problem. He first thought the compressor was leaking and low on freon and so he replaced that. While changing the filter and checking further though, he discovered that leaking freon was not the problem at all, but that a control panel needed replacing in the 36 year old furnace part of the system. He came and told me immediately and said the part had to be ordered, but he could fix it so that I had cool air with the fan running all the time until he could get back next week to install a new control panel. I was impressed by the fact that he told me of his misdiagnosis immediately and apologized (I would never have known otherwise). He did not charge me for the freon charging, and he came back a few days later to install the control panel. The air conditioner is working fine now. Even though the cost was significant, it was certainly better than having to replace the entire system.
Description of Work: Replaced control panel in 36 year old heating/ac system, checked system, replaced filter.
