We solve heating, cooling, water heating and indoor air quality problems for our customers. Our technicians have earned the Angie's List Super Service Award 15 times. Our main office is located in Decatur, Georgia with a satellite office in Cumming, Georgia to serve the greater north Atlanta area. We service, install, and repair all makes and models of heating and air conditioning equipment including ductless systems and heat pumps. To maintain our high standards, all of our senior technicians are NATE certified. Together, our team has more than 200 years heating and air conditioning experience. May 2012 we had to have AC charged with freon because wasn't cooling well. Around July 5th, the AC stopped cooling again. We called Empire to estimate reparing/replacing the AC. They were willing to repair but advised that the repairs would be costly and might not be possible. We decided to replace the unit. We got estimates from two other providers. Empire was the most expensive. Regardless,we decided going with the cheapest wasn't the best idea for such an important item. We picked Empire to do the work. Empire had to schedule the work a week out but they offered to send someone late to charge the AC to be replaced for $100 which was a good deal because charging the unit would've normally cost ~$300 (for 3lbs of R-22). On July 11th, two persons arrived to replace the AC. They spent a day removing the old unit, moving the lines to a different side of the house, cutting a new return into the ceiling, and installing the new unit. When removing the old unit they put down cloth to protect the carpet. I'm generally happy with the work which was performed. I reduced the professionalism mark to 'B' because they didn't cleanup the all the ceiling pieces which were cut from the ceiling. They also left a broken cutting tool and some scraps behind in the attic. Finally, they also didn't seal the new hole cut in the outside wall. They said they had forgotten to bring silicone. The unit has been working fine for five months now.
Description of Work: Identify cause of upstairs AC not cooling. Suggested replacing 8-year-old AC. Moved AC lines to different side of house. Installed one American Standard 13 AC. Added one new return vent. Removed and disposed old unit.

Member was quite right in we fell short of our goals here. In the main the work was done well but the details that we feel are so important were not. I talked with Member and thanked him for the review that was more kind than we deserved. Our service manager did return and punch out the remaining details and service the furnaces for winter operation adding some extra service for his inconvenience.

I was pleased except that I had to pay extra for the filters. The deal that I purchased included changing a "standard filter", which according to Empire is only 1" filters. My 4" filters were going to cost $42 each. After calling them up, they agreed to only charge my the cost difference over the 1" filter, so they dropped $8 from each filter. I'm still angry about paying the extra cost and that they don't consider a 4" filter to be "standard". I feel like I got suckered. The technician that came out (Chris) was friendly and helpful, but due to the pricing issue I will not be using them again.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List deal for a Furnace Tune-Up for my 3 furnaces. They examined and serviced each furnace and replaced the filters.

Overall satisfactory, but about a month and a half later, the same thing occurred, the pilot light went out. Obviously, the problem was patched but not fixed.
Description of Work: Technician came out and restarted the pilot light and changed the air filter. All tolk, it took him about an hour to an hour and a half.

Called in after buying a voucher and scheduled an appointment for the next Thursday from 1 to 3. I received a call at 2:58 saying it may be closer to 4 or 4:30, and that was the last I heard from them that day... They made it over the following day, and told my tenant they would call and let me know the problem after they left... They never called. I got them on the phone the following day just to receive an extremely vague description as to why I needed a new furnace and heating system. Still waiting to hear back... AFTER RECEIVING A QUOTE FOR $2000 TO REPLACE MY FURNACE, I CALLED ANOTHER REPAIR COMPANY AND IT WAS FIXED FOR $50!!! WHAT A SHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were again very professional, prompt, and helpful. They checked the freezing coolant in our master HVAC, then performed a bi-annual inspection. I was impressed so I signed up for a yearly contract for HVAC services.
Description of Work: Part of a big deal purchase, they came back to check HVAC and replaced filters. There was a problem with our air conditioning unit in master bedroom.

It was great. I received a call to let me know the tech was on his way and he showed up two minutes before that time. Came in, checked everything out and explained the whole process to me. He was quite efficient and completed the whole thing in under 30 minutes.

the woman in the office (i think her name was mary) was friendly and professional. she worked w/ my crazy out-of-town for work schedule and got a perfect appointment for me. she told me who the sales person would be coming to see me. the day of the appointment she called about 5 minutes before he was to arrive to tell me he was running a little late and was just leaving the office and asked if i would still be available. it was no problem for me and chris showed up quicker than i thought he would. he was very professional and friendly. i know nothing about hvac equipment or repairs. he answered all of my questions and was very thorough in explaining everything. he showed me information on systems that were available and didn't pressure me on anything. i mentioned that my hot water heater was 14 years old and he said they could replace that, too. he wrote out a detailed explanation and quote for the furnace and also a separate quote for the air conditioning condenser and water heater if i wanted to replace them as well and gave me an excellent package deal if i purchased all of them. he gave me his card and # and encouraged me to get other estimates - again, no pressure. after getting another quote, i called chris back w/ a few questions. i heard back from him within a few hours and he answered all of my questions and more. i'd seen on their website that they were on angie's list and i'd been thinking about joining and did that night. almost all of the reviews of empire were glowing and as good as you can get so i decided to go with empire. they offered alot more than the other estimate i got for the same amount of money. when i called chris back, he worked with my crazy schedule to get some back-to-back days together to get the work done. i wasn't sure i'd be back from an out-of-town trip and he worked with me on arrangements to get his workers started whether i was there or not. a tremendous experience from the start and the work isn't even done yet! i'm very excited about the rest of my experience with empire.
Description of Work: my furnace, air conditioning coil and ductwork are ancient behemoths and have needed replacing for a long time. having finally gotten the money together to proceed, i wanted to get several quotes on replacing them and one of my coworkers had used empire a decade or so ago. i called and requested an estimate. it was scheduled that day for the first day i was available.

My Husband and I just bought our first home. After seeing thorough reviews of A+ on Angie's list, I reached out to Cindy with Empire. She was very courteous and helpful. We arranged for a technician to come out this past weekend after our floors were cleaned and before the weather started to get nippy. Lauchland came out to our house and performed routine maintenance on our furnace. It's a pretty old furnace and as a first time home owner, we wanted to make sure it would last through this winter. Lauchland was AWESOME. He was extremely friendly and informative. I asked him a couple of questions and he was able to answer them without hesitation. He pointed out areas which may potentially have concern and we discussed the best seasons to address these issues. Overall, Empire Heating and Air was a great experience. I signed up for their annual package which includes two biannual tune ups and filter replacements at $154.00 a year. Its well worth it. Not to mention, we'll be saving 20% on any additional labor costs that might pop up in case the furnace can't make it through the winter. :) Thank you Cindy and Lauchland!

The technician came on time and worked for about an hour but couldn't get the proper angle to get a good read and air seal on the duct to properly do the deal. He really tried hard and apologize profusely but he just couldn't do it.

Before I bought my house and was in a rental duplex, every time we had HVAC issues the landlord would say, "ok, we'll call Empire." Don't confuse them with the floor company - this Empire Heating and Air. I was so glad I called them, everything from start to finish was top-notch service. They were very good about my scheduling, returning calls, etc. Chris was very good about explaining the situation with my system. Most impressive was the fact that it cost me about $260 less than the estimate because it turns out that I didn't need the circuit board after all. I was so impressed with the service - the technician was diligent about getting the system turned on correctly. Extra points for punctuality! It is so rare yet incredibly refreshing to see a company be so honest about what I really needed and did not need. I heartily recommend Empire Heating and Air and they just got a new customer for a long time!
Description of Work: I had an Angies List offer for a tune-up for $55. My heat was not coming on at all so I had it checked out. They of course honored the coupon for the diagnosis. Chris the technician did a good thorough checking and it was determined that I needed an inducer motor and circuit board. He installed the inducer but could not get it to come on and was thorough and persistent at diagnosing the problem. He found out that I didn't need the circuit board after all and the other trouble was due to a previous service with another company not being wired properly. He did get my old motor to come on at the first visit but with a system being 10 years old, it was wise to replace it. Also, he had found an obstruction and pointed out that that sometimes happens when a small piece gets loose, etc.

Making the appointment was easy. After I purchased the $55 tune up coupons, I called Empire and we scheduled for the earliest appointment possible. On the day of the appointment, I called to confirm that they were still coming out. I was assured that they would still be arriving. My appointment was to start anywhere from 3-5. 5:15 rolled around and I finally got a call saying the technician was finished with his last appointment and on his way. He didn't end up arriving until 7:30. I took off half a day of work to be there for my appointment time slot, and he didn't show up until 2.5 hours after it. The technician was nice and promptly went to look at the furnaces. When he found that the one furnace would not stay lit, he ran some diagnostics and found a part that he thought needed to be replaced. He then tried to convince me to replace my furnace instead of fixing it. After some discussion with my wife, we decided to just have him fix it. While they are 14 years old, they should be able to run just fine well after the warranty runs out. The technician took the new part and put it in but found that didn't fix the problem. So he put the original part back in and ran some more diagnostics. The second round of diagnostics showed a different part (gas module) may be bad and needed to be replaced. He then tried to convince me again to replace the furnace instead of just the part because, "I really don't want to do the work to replace this part". I told him that I didn't want to replace the unit and that the part cost much less than a new unit would cost. He continued to try and convince me to replace the furnace, but eventually agreed to replace the unit. After replacing the unit, the furnace started working again (and has been working since). I'm very grateful for the work, but don't appreciate being told that I should replace the furnace just because he didn't want to do the work. I also don't appreciate being given a 2 hour window and having the technician show up 2.5 hours after the window is past.
Description of Work: I purchased the $55 (x2) Tune up for both of my furnaces. While the technician was at the house, we found that one of my furnaces wasn't staying lit so he ended up replacing the gas module at a cost of $420.

I called Empire during the hottest part of this summer, when temperatures were in the 100's at the end of June. Needless to say they were busy and the earliest appointment I could get was several days out. They came July 5th as scheduled. No complaints on that.I met the technician and told him I probably only needed coolant; he tested the system, added four pounds of coolant and left within 25 minutes. No complaints there. The price, however, was ridiculous: $260 and that is after a "10 percent" discount as advertised in the Angie's List magazine. I've called other A/C services since and it seems I was ripped off by about $100. Ouch! Obviously I will not use them again, nor can I recommend.

Tech arrived within appointment time frame and went right to work.
Description of Work: Tech performed system check and repair on 2 A/C systems. One system needed control unit wiring repaired and second needed freon. Tech new what he was doing and performed tasks with no lost time. Price was reasonable in today's economy. I used 2 of Angie's special coupons I had purchased several month's earlier. The company fit me into their busy schedule. I would use them again.

My air conditioner went out on 8.7.2012 in the evening. I phoned Empire the following morning to see about having someone come out to take a look and diagnose what I hoped would not be a replacement to my entire AC Unit. The lady that answered the phone was courteous and able to book me for the same day. I was able to be at home in the 2 hour window that was provided and the technician arrived during this window. He was able to diangose the problem and replace the capacitor within a half hour. I would definitely use this company again.

.Empire came out and replaced my entire main unit and fixed my second unit. Chris the salesperson was very friendly and cost efficient. I called three different companies in order to get a god price range. Now don't get me wrong whenever you are dealing with ANYTHING that consists with HVAC you already know you are talking $$$$$$... So after speaking with several sales engineers for several companies. The others tried to over sale me on the furnace which in the end cost more money. I never told either company about the other. So Chris had no Idea that I was doing price comparison. The work was done as quietly as possible, they cleaned up after themselves. I offered Cold water but they declined. They came with their own stash. I still told them the offers their if they need it because it was HOT, when they came to perform the work. It took one full work day to install the Main HVAC unit and about 3 hours to fix my second unit!!! It has been two months now and WOO WEE do I feel a difference. Thanks Empire Heating and Air for installing my COMFORT System!!!! =) Anytime anyone ask me a HVAC question you guys are who I refer!!! Again thanks

I decided to use another service provider and am pleased with the outcome...at half the price of what Empire quoted.
Description of Work: Had an estimate of work for repair to existing ductwork. The estimate was very high based on other estimates I received, and included extra supplies, labor and processes that the other companies did not find necessary. I was offered a discount because I have a service agreement with Empire, but it looks like they jack up the price to make the discount still equal to 30% higher than any other service provider.

On a previous visit for a furnace tuneup last winter, I had purchased an annual maintenance agreement from the company for 154.00. In June, I scheduled an appointment for a air condioner tune up. The technition was arrived exactly on the scheduled time and very professional and efficient.I did have to have a part replaced and the price was very reasonable. I plane to purchase another maintenance agreement from this company for the upcoming year. I would recommend this company to potential customers.
