Empire Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. was founded in 1985 and is an independent dealer for American Standard, Amana, Daikin, Bradford White and many more product lines. We solve heating, cooling, water heating and indoor air quality problems for our customers. Our technicians have earned the Angie's List Super Service Award 15 times. Our main office is located in Decatur, Georgia with a satellite office in Cumming, Georgia to serve the greater north Atlanta area. We service, install, and repair all makes and models of heating and air conditioning equipment including ductless systems and heat pumps. To maintain our high standards, all of our senior technicians are NATE certified. Together, our team has more than 200 years heating and air conditioning experience. Empire performs background checks, random drug tests and even personality profiles along with continuous customer service training to ensure you have a pleasant and worry-free experience. We are active in the contracting community and participate with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, Conditioned Air Association of Georgia, MAACA, ASHRAE and other professional organizations to stay on top of the issues that concern you. The technician came, performed the inspection and told me that I had a leaking evaporator coil. I asked for an estimate to have it fixed. He told me they would have to call to get info on the part and that they would get back to me. The technician was very knowledgeable, professional and prompt. I was very impressed and wanted to do business with Empire. Unfortunately, the professionalism stopped there. I didn't get a call back with the estimate. Three days later I gave up and called them. In the meantime, I called Reliable Heating and Air. They also came to diagnose the problem. They told me the same thing...leaking evaporator coil. The difference was, Reliable called me later the same day with a quote and their quote was almost $1000 less. Both quotes were for Factory certified Carrier parts. I told Empire that their quote was far higher that their competitors... honestly, I was so impressed with Empire's technician, I would have gone with them even if they had been $100-$200 more, but I simply couldn't justify $1000! To make matters worse, when I told Empire about the difference in quotes, they told me they would take another look at it and call me back. They never did. Their follow up was disappointing. I hired Reliable to do the repair, they did a great job. Empire could take a lesson from them in customer service.
Description of Work: I purchased a hot deal from Angie's list to have my heat pump / AC inspected.

They tried to pressure me for a service contract and upsell me on certain services. They were on time for the appointment. Their service and professionalism were very good.

Our visit in March of 2012 noted all was well with you system at that time and that a Planned Maintenance Agreement was recommended. It will be typical for our technicians to recommend a "PMA" as it provides our the lowest repair cost, priority scheduling and guaranteed emergency service. We offer PMA's since it's a win win proposition. We give you our best deals and lowest prices and you allow us to service your equipment in the non peak times of the year when our technicians have more available hours. As you might imagine the heating and air conditioning business is quite seasonal with peaks in demand for extreme weather. In allowing our technicians to service and provide preventive services in the slower times of the year we can better meet the demands of peak season and you are much less likely to need service when all the planned maintenance has been completed ahead of time. If you do need service our PMA customers get first priority. Everybody wins.

Overall good experience, professional employees.

Empire Heating & Air Conditioning did very good. They charged reasonably. They were prompt. I'm pretty pleased. They know their job and they did it at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: They looked at both furnaces and a built-in unit which I had that had stopped functioning. They replaced a switch and that fixed it.

They communicate and they show up on time. I have used them a few times and they always do a good job. They are really reliable and honest. I sent them to my sons condo one time and my son thought he had to pay for it when they did the work and they told him that I had already paid for it, which was very honest.

First technician to attend property blamed the problem on the furnace's ignitor, which he destroyed during diagnosis. He replaced the original ignitor with a White Rodgers 767A-369 ignitor, usually priced around $23 (see link below); however he charged $227 for it, on top of the $88 call-out fee. Replacing the ignitor did not fix the problem. Second technician to attend a week later was clearly angry at being made to attend and rude. Thank you for taking the time to post your review and sharing your experience. Please accept my apology as we have clearly fallen short in delivering quality service and exceeding your expectations. I do see that back in November we provided service to your home for the first time. David did find a defective hot surface ignitor and replaced as well as checking out your system performance and verifying all was working properly before he left, recommending the replacement of some flex gas piping that was not within code. Our flat rate repairs include the part, labor, service to verify repairs with proper system performance as well as a full one year in home warranty. You could have a technician come out and diagnosis the problem, then order the part from the internet, have the technician come back and install the part after it arrives. Then if the part fails you would again pay a technician to visit and advise you of the problem, you would then have to return the part hassling with return policies and pay again for the technician to reinstall. With our service we provide all at your home and we take responsibility for repairs performed. Just as you had called the following week we returned a technician to find your home warm and the technician again checked out the system and found all in proper working order. This was not a warranty call as the part and system were working just fine however we provided this service at absolutely no cost to you. Our pricing is based on skill level, difficulty and warranty. We subscribe to a national pricing guideline and I can assure you our prices are fair and well within industry standards to deliver this level of service. Many companies hide the dispatch fee in the cost of the repair, we feel it is more honest to display each cost as an individual item. The dispatch fee is to provide a fully stocked truck and well trained NATE certified technician to your location and allow time to run you system through the complete operating cycle. Typically we can develop a diagnosis of the problem from that process and provide you a complete cost for repairs at that time and perform the repair while we are there. There are some cases where an extended diagnostic is required as some problems are not apparent at the initial call and some parts are not in our truck inventories and have to be special ordered. I look forward to the opportunity to explain the benefits of a planned maintenance agreement and how it can reduce the frequency of repairs as well as the discounts available for repairs on equipment covered. He explained a lot of things and was very nice about everything. He wanted someone else to come out and sell us some upgrades. The work he did seemed good and he was fair about everything. He was very polite and very professional. I would have them come back out. He got caught in Atlanta traffic.

First, a technician came out on 2/5/2013 to evaluate our 14-year-old system (sorry, I forgot his name). He was very polite and respectful. We then proceeded to have Chris came out on Thursday 2/7/2013 to give us en estimate on replacing our old HVAC system, redesigning and redoing the ducts and vents. Chris was again very professional and gave me some important tips regarding to attic safety. I received a formal estimate from Chris on the same day. Empire was hired on Friday 2/8/2013 and actual work was performed over a 2-day period (2/12/2013 - 2/13/2013). On 2/12/2013, Chris showed up on time in the morning with the team (again, sorry I forgot the names of these gentlemen). Chris walked through the house with the team and explained to them what needded to be done. The team promptly set out to work afterwards. The two gentlemen were very polite and patiently answered my question whenever I have one. They also let me know when they went out on lunch break and gave me an ETA of their return. The team worked well with other contractors as we were having our deck rebuilt at the same time (two teams from two different companies working at the same time on 2/13/2013). We also had a windows & door company in addition to a landscaping company came out to do estimates on 2/12/2013 and the Empire team appears to have no problem maintaining their high standards of professionalism in a hectic situation. The project was completed on schedule. We are very pleased with the work.

From the first contact, phone to the last visit the entire experience was excellent. Honsest evaluation of the problem, a realistic solution and at a fair price.
Description of Work: Our hi-efficiency furnace was not cycling properly. Empire / Keith determined that the blower motor bearings were freezing up and needed replacing. They ordered the part and installed it two days later. Done and working properly, responding to the "call for heat" from the thermostat. On time the first visit and a ltittle early for the follow up visit . Great service and thorough inspection of all working parts. I was impressed! So much so that we now have an annual service contract with them. Thank Keith and Empire!

This was at my daughter's house, and I was unable to be there. We talked by phone, and he explained what he had found. Furnace is 35 years old, so he recommended replacing. A day later, my daughter called to tell me she smelled what she thought was gas in the house. Empire came back out, and this time I met the tech there. He basically rechecked everything, spent about another hour there, and determined the smell was actually coming from the motor, which he had said might go out at any time. The tech spent a lot of time with me and explained everything and showed me what needed to be done. He also made a minor repair in the exhaust flue and pointed out that the flue cap on the roof had a hole in it which allowed water to go down the flue when it rained. This was an excellent technician, and I believe Empire is an excellent company. I couldn't afford to immediately replace the furnace, but when I do, I will certainly call Empire back!
Description of Work: Tech came out and did a PM check on furnace. Included CO test and inspection of furnace.

Service man showed up right on time. He took his shoes off before he entered the house. This is very important for my house, and went to the attic to tune the furness. Good information and recommendation was provided. I feel with any air condition or furness tune up you should not pay more that $60.00. I was happy the service and cost.

The tech ran one test for voltage and then replaced the air filter with a no name brand filter. He was super friendly, he was on time, and he answered all my questions. My system was working fine, so it felt expensive for him to look at it for 5 minutes or so and call it a day. I received a follow up call the next day and a confirmation call the day before, so definitely happy with their service.

The technician was very good, thorough and honest. In addition, when one of my sons' tried to pay more than the coupon, thinking he owed more, the technician verified that all he owed was the coupon! This is my second time using them and they are keepers.

Great. The visit lasted about one hour.
Description of Work: Empire inspected both our heaters and gave recommendations. The service man also adjusted our vents to stop the annoying rattling noise they were making. He was very thorough, practical, and knowledgeable.

I contacted Empire based on a recommendation from a neighbor. They came out to my house on time (when they said they'd be there) and have always been honest and easy to work with. Their technicians are courteous, down to earth, and don't mind taking the time to explain things. I will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: I was concerned about condensation drainage, and about how clean the unit was - it had been a while since I had any preventative maintenance completed on it. I bought their maintenance plan, which is great. For a flat fee (I think somewhere around $150.00?), they will come and service your HVAC in the winter and the summer. If you ever need a repair, you get 15% off if you're on their maintenance plan.
