The work was excellent.  It took one day longer than what they said because the one doing the tiles was on another job.  The workers were very good.   We had our own design put in the floor and they did it exactly how we wanted it.   They were here when they said they were going to be.  The guy to remove the wood took about four hours.  The finished rooms look very good.

Floormax is a NIGHTMARE !!
FLOORMAX, Flooring America was my single worst consumer experience of my entire 50 years of life.
If I could do it again, I would gladly pay TWICE as much to avoid using Floormax, Flooring America.
Here are a few of the highlights of this experience:
My home received storm damage and required nearly 100K in repairs.  Floormax was selected by State Farm Insurance.
After walking through my home with an adjuster one day, I was alone in my home and turned to find a young man looking around.  I introduced myself and learn that he was from Floormax and had come in unannounced to look around.
During our visit I explained what style of flooring I wanted and he stated that he would drop off samples of that type for me to look over.  After a few weeks of nothing, I began calling Floormax because I feared having to make a last second decision as the repairs progressed.
They eventually dropped by some samples.  And after driving 30 minutes to the damaged home, I found that every sample was the exact opposite of what I had asked for in color, type, and style.
After waiting and calling a while longer with no results, in frustration and despiration I finally drove one hour each way from Marietta to Mall of Georgia where they are located to see sample for myself.
I picked out some flooring samples that I wanted to see in the house and the salesperson recorded them to provide to the guy handling my account as he was not working that day.
Again, I waited weeks and nothing....
So, I decided to go to several other flooring companies to find what I wanted with the intention of firing Floormax.
I found carpet, padding, tile, hardwood, and vinyl that I was happy with.
I then contacted Floormax and told they that I would only use their company if they matched what I had found.  They agreed, wrote up a work order, and I decided to give them another chance.
Then, when most of the house was repaired and painted, Floormax came to install the tile in the kitchen and laundry rooms while I was working.
I arrived that night to find a MESS.   The tile pattern was not rotated/ staggered.  The installer actually placed 5 to 6 of the exact patteren in a row over and over as though he was purposely trying to group similar tiles in seperate areas. they had also run the tile only under the front legs of the appliances and not to the back making all the appliance leanto the rear..
BUT even WORSE...  THEY INSTALLED 12 inch TILES INSTEAD OF THE 18 inch TILE THAT I HAD ORDERED.
So, after a weak attempt to have me accept the wrong size tile.  All of the tile had to be torn back up and reordered.
Then, they attempted to reinstall the new tile over the old mortar/ grout without fully scraping and leveling the floor.  I insisted that it be done and they agreed, but then the worker damaged my dishwasher and blew the sanded dust over the entire newly painted houses requiring a paid cleaning crew to have to later wash all the surfaces including the walls to remove the talc like powder residue.
Then the wood arrived.  Well, the

stair nose color was a light red, almost cherry look and the flooring is a dark brown Hickory.  So, everyone agreed it looked horrible and was returned for replacement...  which took another couple weeks.
The carpet was installed and the vinyl was installed also.  They broke nearly ever door stop off and laid them on the floor.  The metal threshold molding from the carpet to the vinyl hammered so much that it was flat instead of a rounded arch and resembled a pickle.
I insisted that it be repaired.  The guy came to replace it and installed a new one at a angle across the doorway one inch off on on side compared to the other... And 1/4 inch off the ground on one side.  (turns out he installed it over a rock lying on the floor.
So, a third repair was required.
Then... it got worse, much worse.
because all the old floor was shoveled up. the old glue and splinters remained.  I had in writing from floormax that the floor would be fully scraped before the new floor was installed.
So, on the day they told me that the crew was to begin scraping , I gave then about four hours to work before I showed up to see how it was going.  I had been told it would be a 1 to 2 day job to prep the floor.
When I arrived, the crew was just FINISHING glueing down the last of more than 1000 square feet of the new wood !!!!
I asked what was going on and said that there was no way that they could have prepared the floor AND installed a entire floor in that length of time.  They spoke very little English and within 15 minutes had thrown their tools in their truck and were driving away.
Looking at the install, they had not pushed the board fully together in several spots,
they had the light colored glue seeping up between the dark wood boards,
and in my formal dining room that had used 21 boards of about 1 foot long all clustered together in the center of the room.  NO !
I called FLOORMAX to complain.  They insisted that the floor was fully sanded/ scraped and prepped.
Knowing this was a lie, I was left to gamble and rip up part of the floor to see the old glue before the boards dried.
I used pry bars and hammers and tore up some board to find the old glue tick and untouched with new glue on top.  It was tick and golden litke peanut brittle.
So, I called Floormax and sent photos.  They said it WAS scrapped and they must have just missed the one area that I chose to tear up.
SO, I DID IT AGAIN.... and AGAIN.  and in five room found all the floor to be the same.  UNPREPPED with all the dirt, dust, wood chips and old glue, and even nails,  still on the floor under the new glue and wood flooring.
Finally Floormax agreed to send THE SAME GUYS back out to tear it all up, reorder all the wood and reinstall all the wood flooring.
As they were prepping the floor they punched holes in the walls, damaged the baseboards, damaged the paint, etc, etc.
I insisted on supervising the install of the wood this time around.
And, it was done.
But, after they left, I noticed that my toilet wasnt working properly.
After working with a contrator for hour trying to find the problem, I ended up going to the store and buying a whole new toilet and having it installed.
I then used a hammer to break apart the broken toilet and found that SOMEONE HAD ROLLED UP A PIECE OF BROWN PAPER 5 INCHES LONG AND HELD THE FLAPPER UP IN THE TANK AND SHOVED IT INTO THE INSIDE OF THE TOILET WHERE THE WATER FLOWS AROUND THE RIM.... THUS CLOGGING IT.
Although, the owner of FLOORMAX stated that he accepted NO responsibility for the vandalism, he did agree to deduct the $300 toilet from the $15000 cost.
Now, there are more problems that I could explain here, squeeky floor, gaps, ect, etc.
But, hopefully anyone reading this can imagine...  no amount of money is worth this 5 MONTH nightmare... I keep wondering what other vandalism to expect...  a cut gas line to an appliance????
and Floormax's response....  "We do offer a warranty"....        wow.  never again... at ANY price.

There were no negatives with our experience with Floormax. In the beginning we were not certain how much of the floors the insurance company would allow to be removed. Servicemaster marked a line on the floor with tape, and Floormax removed up to that line. After consulting with our insurance company it was determined that Floormax could remove all of the hardwood flooring. All I did is stay ahead of the crew and remove breakable items from each room before they started. They took care of everything else including moving the furniture and moving it back. The only damage during the entire process is that a few baseboards were damaged during the removal of the floor. We have had hardwood floors removed in the past. Unless you remove the baseboards to begin with, it is almost impossible not to damage a few baseboards. Our insurance company included replacing damaged baseboards in the repair.
