I was very happy with the work done. I thought the price seemed a bit high, but I wanted to use a company that had licensed personnel and would stand by their work. The one thing that I was a bit unhappy about was an additional charge ($75 or so) to replace a broken flange. I don't object to the added cost, but would have preferred to have this possible added cost mentioned when the original estimate was provided. Nevertheless, I was very happy with Zurn's work and would hire them again.
Description of Work: I have three bathrooms, all with old toilets that needed to be replaced. Zurn replaced all 3 toilets with high efficiency, low flush toilets. They did the work quickly: they arrived at 8:30 a.m. and were finished, including clean-up, by 11:30 a.m. I was very happy with their responsiveness and professionalism.

The plumber was prompt, courteous, clean and professional. He fixed the faucet easily with a new washer. He didn't have the part to fix the drain. In the crawlspace he found problems with both of our bathub overlows and also suspected that our cast-iron sewage pipes were leaking. He said the overflows needed replacing and that he would have to schedule another visit to cut through our cast-iron waste pipes and redirect the sewage flow. While he was down there, he found that the house had never had a water pressure regulator (there was no code pertaining to this when the home was built) and our pressure was very, very high. This may have been an answer to the puzzle of why our washers were wearing out so frequently! He installed a regulator with no problems at all. To replace the overflows and do the work on the (possibly) leaky sewage lines, Zurn quoted $1,800. It seemed to me that the overflow-repairs should be covered under our supplemental home maintenance policy--a major insurer that does business with a lot of big contractors. The plumber said that they had been incorrectly installed, and therefore were not under warranty. Unfortunately, I was distracted by another issue elsewhere in the house, and I didn't insist that he call the insurer in my presence. We opted to get a second opinion, and I'm glad we did. The next plumber, a much smaller company, said he thought there was nothing wrong with the cast-iron lines, that some apparent rust on them was not due to their leaking, but due to water running off from the old overflows. He called our supplemental insurance company and told them exactly what he saw, which was essentially the same thing Zurn had told me. He took pictures of the overflows with his cell phone and sent them directly to the insurer, who said the work was definitely covered under our policy. Now that the new overflows are installed, there is no more water in the crawlspace, so the second plumber's diagnosis was correct. Best of all, we got the work done for a $75 co-pay instead of a $1,800 bill. As a facilities caretaker I know that plumbing problems do not always have cut-and-dried, formulaic answers. There can actually be quite a bit of creativity involved in finding the right and most cost-effective solution to plumbing issues. Sometimes three plumbers will give you six different options... so I don't want to knock Zurn or their plumbers' expertise... but knowing what I know now, I do think this plumber might have tried a little harder to work with us and our insurer. I think our story explains my ratings clearly enough.
Description of Work: Based on their Angie's list rating, we had Zurn come out to take a look at a couple of minor problems. First was a leaky bathroom faucet (in which we had replaced washers only a year before) and a leaky drain/plug in the same basin. The second was some water leaking into our crawlspace--it wasn't an emergency, but there had been a slow or intermittent leak over a long period of time.

I have looked up the work order and investigated since this work was done in October 2010. The estimate we gave the customer was actually $2,000. It included the work on the tub overflows, the new PRV, a drain repair at the kitchen and a new 50 gallon water heater with code upgrades. The cast iron fittings we recommended replacing were the traps on the bathtubs and not part of the sewer line. We would have been happy to explain this to the customers insurance company but as he said he was distracted and did not get us in contact with his insurance company. Respectfully, Ted Zurn

I feel they way overcharge and will never use them again. Buyer Beware.
Description of Work: I have used Zurn plumbing for years and have been increasingly unhappy with them. On the plus side, they are very good at coming out right away. However, they have become outrageously expensive to the point that I feel I have been ripped off time and time again. I asked for an estimate on a upflush toliet installation and they wanted over $1,000. more than any one else Obviously, they did not install the toliet.. I have pressure problems in the house and they did not fix it or even seem to know how to fix it properly. Then when less than 1 year later I had to call them back because the problem was not fixed they charged $400. for a new high pressure valve installation instead of giving it to me free because they did not fix it right the first time. Another time one of their men diagnosed that I needed a new expansion tank. This same guy installed that same the tank less two years before .When that same guy installed that tank he gave me a unbelievably huge one ( I found out later from the plumber I now used.) and instead of installing it in an out of the way place he instead placed in the middle of the low ceiling room. Not only making it an eyesore and maybe not to code, but making it dangerous for people to walk into.. I asked Zurn to get me someone else and pointed out they had just installed the tank less than two years ago . Lo and behold the new guy they sent out said the tank was fine. Another time they charged me over $600. to replace a bathtub shower fixture. I suspect that was way overpriced too. I also asked to have them fix a pipe leak. Apparently he fixed it by using the parts he had in the truck instead of obtaining the right parts for the job. The leak was indeed fixed but not correctly... No more.

I am going to address each complaint below: 1. The customer wanted a price to install a basement bathroom with a toilet and a sink. We gave her a price to rough in the water supply, drain and vent piping. As well as setting the toilet, sink and faucet. Prices can vary greatly from one contractor to another as does the quality of workmanship, insurance, training, licensing, etc, etc. 2. As for this clients pressure issues. They had very very (180 to 200 psi) high pressure coming from the county line to their house. We were out there about a year ago and found that because the pressure was so high her existing valve was starting to fail but it was still working. Our recommendation was to install a new valve in front of the old valve and step the pressure down to 90psi with the new valve and use the existing valve to bring it down another 30psi to have a working pressure of 60 psi in the house. She agreed to it and we did it. Roughly 9 to 12 months later she called upset and said she had another plumber out and told her that her pressure was at 90 psi and was too high (Remember we set the first valve at 90). The problem was the old PRV. We offered to remove the old PRV and set the newer one lower but she insisted that her new plumber said it shouldn’t be adjusted and she needed a new one. We could have adjusted it and it would have been fine, but she didn’t want that. So we did some research and found a PRV designed for high pressure applications and gave her a price to install that as the first reducer and move the valve we had installed 9 to 12 months ago to be the second stage reducer. She agreed to have that done. While we were there she asked us to fix a leak on a pipe joint, which I believe she is referring to later in her review. We used code approved fittings and methods for making the repair. Her ticket for the repair and the PRV was about $400.00 that was significantly discounted. 3. As for the thermal expansion tank (TET) we did install it and a couple of years later had one of our tech’s recommend replacement again. It was an improper diagnosis that she did not pay for and we realize our tech made a mistake and she didn’t have to pay for that mistake because we didn’t charge anything for it. She commented on the placement of the tank in her review, that it was installed in an area that made it dangerous and an eyesore. When we installed that tank there had been the existing tank already there so we unscrewed the old tank and screwed back in the new tank. Perhaps we did or didn’t give her the option to move its location however if we had moved it the cost would have been higher because it would have been more labor intensive. 4. As for the comments about the shower valve at this point I believe are conjecture because it has been so long since the work was done. We have tried to make accommodations for this customer however it is apparent that our best efforts left them feeling overcharged and not taken care of. For that I am sorry and I hope they can find the service they are looking for. Regards, Matt Zurn

Overall it was solid, and I was pleased with service but felt I may not have paid too much for a standard tank heater. Zurn came on time and courteously and patiently answered many, many questions about replacement options. Service was friendly and professional, and even answered my questions about unrelated plumbing issues, which was a huge plus. They had the water heater in stock and was able to do the same day, which is great because once its not working you want a new one in as fast as you can. I liked the plumber that came over, and would call them again if we had another issue. I feel they were very trustworthy and honest, and cleaned up after their work. However, I didn't give them an "A" for a few reasons 1) Price of water heater unit - I felt I overpaid for the convenience to have it in stock (Bradford-White), and given how fast the unit was installed labor was incredibly high (<30 Mins). I know they are in the business to make money and they are licensed professionals, but still seems high margin as my in-laws replaced with same unit for 1/3 cost with another outfit. But when you're water heater is out, you're a price-taker. 2) Company said they weren't available to come back on Saturday to do the install so instead of giving me the night to "sleep" on it, I felt pressured to decide then or wait until Monday without hot water. 3) Selection: only one choice for a standard tank heater, and nearly made me elect a tank-less until I spoke with someone who knew more than I did about it to explain that plumbing companies like to sell them because they require more maintenance to be flushed out regularly, making it near impossible without the expired tax credit to get your money back especially if you need to reconfigure. To be fair, they said they could put in any unit I wanted to for me but again, there wouldn't be time to get one so I would have had to wait until Monday making it a long time to wait. I am just hoping it's something I don't regret not being able to do proper due diligence on, and since its a professional plumbing brand the water heater was not reviewed by consumer reports.

It was a really big job and I spent a large amount. I liked everything about them. They were very friendly and very prompt. Their costs were certainly reasonable even though it was very expensive. They were very professional from the time I called until they left. They could not have been any nicer. They were very clean. Even though my whole front yard had been dug up, I could not even tell at the end of the day. They left everything, as they should have. It was probably the most professional plumbing company I have ever worked with. They are the best that I've found and I've recommended them to several of my neighbors.

Excellent outcome! The estimate was exactly what we paid and the crew of two workers were punctual and managed to keep our water on during the entire process. The whole project took about 2.5 days. I was amazed at the quality of the work and their ability to re-pipe my house without much damage to the drywall. When they replaced the lines outside the house they were very careful and did not do much damage at all.

It started out really well. I called and was able to have someone out in 45 minutes. However, once the technician arrived the quality of service steadily declined. We're pleased with the work done, but not the professionalism. The technician immediately wanted to quote a new water heater and kept insisting that we needed a new one based on the fact that ours was over 10. I explained that I did not want a new water heater, but just the simple repair. The technician then went ahead to do the repair but repeatedly laughed at the situation (as if having a water heater older than 10 was simply unheard of) and kept talking about how unsafe it was in front of our tenant's boyfriend. At one point, the technician even turned to the boyfriend and was explaining to him what was going on. He didn't live there, nor was he paying the bill and I was unhappy that the technician kept involving the tenant's friend in the situation as if it concerned him. What goes on between us and our vendors is not really our tenant's business. Not to mention that the water heater is working just fine, it just sprang a little leak. The attempted up sell at the beginning of the service call was annoying, but the constant berating of the equipment was incredibly rude. I will not use Zurn again.
Description of Work: Our water heater had a leak that was spurting water in a very fine mist from a pipe on top of the water heater. Zurn came and cut the bad portion of the pipe out and replaced it with a new one.

I have spoken to the technician involved. The water heater and piping connecting it are in really bad shape. It will need replacing soon or it will leak. That being said we did the repair and controlled the leak. It is not our policy to hard sell the customer. My apologies if that is how the customer felt. The other person there was the tenant I assume, who kept asking our technician questions. He was trying to be polite by responding to the questions he had been asked. He did not laugh about anything concerning the job. Our Question: If the tenant’s friend was annoying the owner with their presence and questions why not just ask them to leave? The work cost me $1153 totally. The job went well. The guy was punctual and neat. I did not find any parts. They provided all the parts. The only negative I had about working with the company was that when I called and asked for a price, I previously had gotten a quote of $852 with an additional $250 for the overflow tank; but what I didn’t get was an add on price for the installation of a drip valve, which is a small part for another $51, so I guess I just didn’t like that surprise. I would use them again. The guy was quick and knowledgeable. I appreciated the competency in the installation work. The price was within the ballpark.

Monday evening we heard water rushing in the pipes, but there was nothing running, and no leaks anywhere in the house. Cobb County water had us check our meter, and it turned out we were losing 10 gallons per minute as our water intake pipe had broken somewhere between the house and meter. We initially called a plumber recommended on Angie's List who was just driving back from Florida after the New Year's weekend, so he recommended Zurn, also highly rated on Angie's list. By this time it was after eight, but Matt came right out to the house. While Cobb County turned off our water (and needed to install a new shut off system as our 44 year old valve wouldn't budge), Matt assessed the situation and gave us a very reasonable estimate for replacing the intake pipe. We had been worried that our driveway would need to be ripped up for repairs, but Matt got around that problem by rerouting the pipe up the side of the driveway and into the garage. We had an option of copper or PEX piping, and although Matt could've pushed the more expensive option on us as we know little about plumbing, he gave us an honest evaluation and we chose the lesser priced PEX. His crew, Nick and Craig, did a wonderful job of installing the new pipe. They were on time, efficient, and very tidy, even raking the ground carefully over the new pipe trench. Though they'd worked a long day, they took time after their main project to check two toilets that hadn't been running well, and ended up replacing the towers for both, thus solving all our plumbing problems in one trip. We would definitely use this company again, and happily recommend them to others.

On 11/30/09, Zurn came out to diagnose a leaking shower. We have two shower fixtures in the master bath, and one of them was leaking into the garage. We paid a $109 diagnosis charge to learn that it wasn't the shower pan or the supply pipes. On 1/11/10, we had Zurn come back out as the issue had re-surfaced (we rarely use the second shower head). They acknowledged that there is a leak coming from the fixture and charged us $70 to caulk around the fixture handle. We then decided it was time to replace the old brass fixtures and bought new Moen fixtures/valves from Lowes. Zurn came out on 12/22/10 and gave us an estimate of $1000 to install the fixtures. They also charged us $119 for the trip. After trying to negotiate with the manager, we elected to pass. On the plus side, Zurn was always on time and responsive. On 1/3/11, we had the work performed by H&H Plumbing (an independent plumber). Lonnie quoted us $300 prior to doing the work. The job was completed in less than 2 hours and he only charged us $250. I would highly recommend using an independent plumber and will never call Zurn again.

I have reviewed the issues this client mentioned above and the first 2 trips are accurate. We came out and tested multiple things in the area of the shower and sometimes we are only able to check and rule out possible causes, which we did. We did go back out and found that there needed to be some caulking so we only charged for our time and not our travel charge. The third issue of installing shower valves is difficult because I believe this client is trying to compare apples and oranges. We are a larger service company and have overhead, insurance, equipment, business & plumbing license, place of business, etc etc. that small one-man operations don't have the expense of because they don't provide it or they don't have it. I don't know anything about the other company this client used but as he mentioned it is "a independent plumber" so that makes me think he is an owner and technician. I wish that the cost of business could be lower therefore our prices could be. I know this homeowner believes he got a good deal however if his house got damaged during the replacement of the shower valves due to flooding or fire (from soldering) would it have been such a good deal then, and did he ask the company he contracted for a copy of his insurance liability and plumbing license? We have built our name and reputation for being fair and providing exceptional service for over the last 25 years and we plan to continue that tradition. Best Wishes, Matthew Zurn

No complaints whatsoever with the job: punctual, job done properly; complete clean up, etc. Would recommend their work. $700 seemed excessive to me for the relatively short time the job took. I would have preferred they focused on my problem rather than the time it took to go through their folder to figure out what to charge me. Next time I will probably shop around more.

It is our policy to quote jobs before they are done, even small repairs. In some cases this cannot be done since there is time needed for diagnosis. With this client we tracked down a leak on a drain fitting inside the wall, and repaired it as well as some other issues. We quoted everything before we did it and got their approval. We had to make 2 trips to the job because it got to late the first day to make the repair we diagnosed. We did have a licensed Tech and an apprentice working at the client's home for 3 1/2 hours not including the travel time. We didn't charge any extra for the apprentice or the second visit to the home. The reason we use menu pricing is because it ensures fairness in pricing and knowing what your job will cost before we start. Regards, Matt Zurn

It was wonderful. The Zurn people were very professional.
There was a leak coming through the ceiling. It turned out to be a junction of two pipes. This is in the Townhouse of my girlfriend so I didn't have direct contact with the plumber, but we talked on the ;phone and before he did any work he called me with an estimate. It seemed very fare and I half expected to get a final bill that was higher. He went in through the ceiling and called me back within two hours and the price was exactly what he quoted me. Not only do I have no complaints, but they were great; quick to respond and fixed the problem on the same day.

The initial visit the technican ignored the fact that I had just replaced valve fill/float parts 2 months ago. He concluded the repair required all new fill avalve and float parts at a cost of $386 and the relacement of 2 water pressure valves for an additional cost of $605. The fix ( using another service) was a simple adjustment to the water level in the tank. I felt Zurn Plumbing focused on upselling vs fixing.
Description of Work: Issue: water running from the tank in toilet. Initial vist at a cost of $99. did not address the or fix the issue but rather served as a opportunity for them to upsell me on unnecessary parts and work. $386. plus $605.

I have spoken with the technician and reviewed the work order for this client. We recommended replacement of the fill valves in his toilet because they were not shutting off completely and showed some age because there was visible rust. If the fill valves were only 2 months old the client didn’t tell us that and due to the visible rust we felt like they needed replacement. We shy away from making “adjustments” on existing fill valves because we can’t offer any kind of guarantee or warranty, which results in unhappy customers when they have the same problem a couple weeks later. The parts themselves were quite expensive since this client had one-piece toilets and they require a special fill valve. The second part to this reply is about the PRV (Pressure Regulating Valve). This client had a pressure reading of 75 PSI, which is still within code (code is 80 psi) but on the high side of what it should be (Ideally it should be 60 PSI). It is very possible that by having the PRV replaced it may have taken care of the toilets running. We try to solve our client’s problems completely when we come out, for the issues they know about and the behind the scenes issues they don’t. I feel like we handled this call the way we have trained our Technicians, and it just happens to be a time where the customer doesn’t agree with our recommendations. We are a small family owned company that has been in business over 25 years; we do genuinely care about our customers and would never try to sell them something they didn’t need. Our people are not on commission and they are paid hourly which means there isn’t anything in it for them to oversell anyone. Regards, Matt Zurn

They came quickly, found the leak quickly, stayed several hours to fix, and charged us a VERY reasonable price for the repair. We've used them several times, and have always been satisfied. They also give good advice for avoiding a problem in the future.
Description of Work: Called on a holiday because there was a leak in our basement ceiling. They had to find and replace a leaking pipe.

they are professional, punctual, knowledgeable, well prepared, polite, thorough, you name it, they are perfect. the only thing is they seem quite expensive. they have a price list for each job performed. if i remember correctly fixing the leaky toilet cost over 100 dollars, and blowing out the sewer line was over 600. but i suppose you get what you pay for.
Description of Work: they fixed a leaky toilet and then blew out our sewer line. they also advised me to put a pop-up cap on our outdoor sewer cleanout so in the case of a sewer backup the top will pop off and the sewage will flood the yard instead of inside the house. this was terrific advise since the plastic cap was only 40 dollars.

I was concerned that my water heater might need replacement (I was getting rust from my pipes when I ran my hot water). I called Zurn Plumbing assuming that I would need to set up an appointment, wait at my home, get an estimate and pay for the appointment. Instead Marcin at Zurn Plumbing talked with me at length over the phone about the rust problem, explained what he thought caused it and how to handle it on my own, and explained why he did not think I should replace the water heater at this point. I am very grateful for his time, his honesty, his help in diagnosing and dealing with the problem, and his integrity. When my water heater needs to be replaced I will definitely use Zurn. Mark Bussey
