The manager who came out first to give the quote was really professional. He came out first time for an exterior paint. I had a couple of interactions with him and he has been professional throughout all of my interactions with him. The workers were good. They came out and did a good job. They put the right colors in the right places. They are generally very neat. I had no major problems with their attitude or making mistakes or any other stuff like that. The estimate what they gave me is what I paid at the end of the job. I have used their service twice. I would recommend them to other members also. I would use their service in the future too.
Description of Work: I used Highland Park Painting LLC service to paint the interior of the house. I last used their service in December of last year.

They were very professional. I don't recall all the details after this many years, but I know that I was extremely pleased with the service and the price and fully intend on calling them for a first quote when I intend to have some interior painting done later this year/early next. I can say that after at least as many years since their paint job as passed between the original paint job by the builder and when I called Highland out to repair the work, the columns are clean, the paint job still looks fresh, and there have been no cracks, no peeling, no fading. Highlad park was even able to match the paint exactly, when all I had to help match it was a bit of flaked off paint from the original paint job.
Description of Work: I had 4 columns supporting my back porch and two in the front that were not primed or painted properly by the builder and had started to significantly peel after just a few years. I needed all 6 columns to be scraped clean, primed, and repainted to match the original color.

Full disclosure--we were moving across country with no notice and therefore highly disorganized and in a hurry. Highland Park stepped up to the plate and met our timetable. The crew was very nice and worked extra late to get the job done. In the end, they missed a few places (nothing I could not pop the paint can and touch up on my own) and left a fair amount of flaked paint in the planters, etc. There was also a surprising lack of consensus about the best way to strip the excessive amount of old, loose paint from the wood before repainting--in the end they used some pressure washing and a little stripping. But the results speak well for the crew's work, and our deck looks ten years younger. And we truly appreciate their bending over backwards for us, though we all seemed a little disorganized by the rush.
Description of Work: They stripped the loose paint off our deck and exterior stairs and repainted.

I hired Highland Park Painting to paint the exterior of my home in late 2009. Charles Leopard, one of their district painting managers, came out to our home to do an estimate beforehand; he was extremely courteous and professional. He measured the space to be painted, and provided a painting and home protection program estimate that had clear pricing, clearly stated the work to be done, and clearly stated the follow-up services to be provided. I paid about $2900 (with a discount) to repaint the exterior of my two-story home--this included the costs of prep. work, a single coat of Sherwin-Williams' Durations paint, and a five-year home protection plan that offers revisits after two and four years to pressure wash, inspect, and repaint as needed. I scheduled the work to be done mid-December; I was asked to mail in $100 earnest money at the time of the scheduling. The work did have to be delayed a day or so due to bad weather, but I received notice of the delay a day before the work was scheduled to start. Once the job was underway, the paint crew was professional, tidy, and on-time. They completed the work in a timely manner and to my satisfaction. Charles came by after they were finished to pick up the payment--exactly the amount quoted to me in the estimate. I was extremely pleased with the service I received.
Description of Work: I hired Highland Park Painting to paint the exterior of my home, including siding, shutters, trim, downspouts, and doors.

I had contracted Highland Park Painting for painting work previously, so I knew to expect good service, and I was not disappointed. I needed to refresh the base interior home color throughout the house, and have a few ceilings and rooms repainted. I contacted Highland Park Painting and was promptly scheduled for an estimate. My estimate was performed by one of Highland's district painting managers, Charles Leopard. As in my previous experience, he was courteous and on-time. We went through the home assessing the work to be done, and he was able to work up an estimate within about 10 minutes. The estimate clearly stated the work to be done, including prep. work and the application of one coat of paint for the rooms and walls to be painted. The work was estimated to cost $2515, but I was offered a five percent discount to schedule the work for December. I scheduled the work on the spot, for December 1st, and was asked to put up $175 earnest money. The work was delayed a day so that the crew could finish up the previous job, but I was given a phone call the day before the work was scheduled to start to notify me of the delay. Once the painting was underway, the crew was on-time, organized, and professional. They completed their work in two days, as expected. The quality of the work was very good. Once the job was complete, the workers cleaned up after themselves. Payment was hassle-free; I paid in total $2214, the amount quoted with the agreed-upon 5% discount.
Description of Work: I hired Highland Park Painting to repaint about 75% of the interior of my home, excluding a few rooms I had previously painted.

My problems began when Highland Park Painting didn't show up on the day agreed. We had a fairly negotiated, signed contract with a firm start date and price. When they did not arrive that morning (I had taken the day off from work) I called our salesman and his response was: ?Oh, I just forgot to schedule the job.? That was it. For anyone who has taken time off to accommodate a contractor?s work, the ?I forgot? from a ?professional? company is simply inexcusable, and a reason to never use them. My problems became even worse when the owner (who was responsive) helped arrange for a second crew to do the work. The foreman informed me on a cell call after the crew had not shown up at the appointed time on the scheduled day, "oh, you won't be happy with the outcome the way this job is quoted." They had done this same job only 16 months ago, so they knew exactly what was involved (in fact, the wording on each contract for this specific work was the same.) In essence, they were going to do an inferior process even though they used the previous bill to calculate this estimate. Bottom line: Highland Park Painting didn?t show up and they didn?t honor their contractual commitments. If you?re busy and you value your time, from my experience, I would recommend you find a more responsible company than Highland Park Painting.

Response from Highland Park Painting LLC
This member signed up to have his garage door lightly sanded and varnished. The member aggrssively negotiated a reduction in our estimate which we went along with explaining the limitations in the process and difference between our written contracted plan and a more expensive complete strip and refinish of the doors .We gave him an approximate start date pending weather conditions and confirmation from our manager and advised him he did not need to be home when the work was done. When the approximate date came with no confirmation from our manager, the member called our office in late morning and complained he had inexplicably "taken the day off from work" and demanded we get out there immediately. We arranged to quickly get a crew out there the next morning, a Saturday. When the crew arrived the member demanded that we do the complete strip and refinish. Our foreman explained this would cost roughly twice as much and pointed out that our written estimate, which the member had a copy of, was very clear that he had contracted for a less expensive varnishing. Our manager recalls discussing this with the member when the estimate was written and when the member insisted on a reduced price and believed the member understood. In any case, even the member does not dispute that the contract was clear. Our foreman did a great job double checking to make sure the member understood what was clearly written and what our manager had clearly explained, BEFORE any work began. The member then demanded we ignore the actual written contract and do the more expensive procedure at less than half price and threatened an unpleasant Angie's List posting if we did not comply with his demand. We declined to procede and are grateful this was resolved before any work was done and before and without any payment from the member.

It went GREAT! Keith bid the job for us and there were no surprises when the work was done and we paid...it cost just what he said it would. Vicente and his crew who actually did the painting were very punctual, courteous and professional. They did what they said they would do when they said they would do it! They were great about cleaning up the job site daily, and the whole thing was cleaned up at the end. I had never had an exterior paint job done before so I had lots of questions, and everybody was very helpful with everything - from what kind of paint to buy to what color would be best! I would absolutely recommend them to anyone!

These guys did a fantastic job on painting the exterior of my home. Even though they were not the cheapest we could find, they definitely had the best value. They gave me a five year warranty and just did a great job. This is a very solid company that s been around for years.

They came on Thurs. and began work. I was not there to get the estimate form. Called the company on the weekend to tell them something the foreman needed to know before finishing. They called on Monday and declined to accept responsibility for the work. App. the foreman did not tell them he was doing the job. The foreman finished the job on his own but Highland refused to recognize the work or agree to the guarantee they advertised in their mailing to me. Painting seems to be good so far. They said they fired the foreman. The foreman was good and one rep. I spoke with was very nice but the alleged owner was a complete jerk with which to discuss the matter.
Description of Work: Painted neighbor's home for second time. They gave a fairly good report but had some minor difficulty getting them back to comply with a warranty repainting. Sent me an advertisement quoting a warranty. Asked their foreman, who was wearing their shirt, to give me an est. on my house. He did and said they could start work on Thurs. He said he was out of estimate forms but would bring one back.

Response from Highland Park Painting LLC
This "customer" grabbed a painter from our jobsite next door. The painter, without our knowledge, offered to paint his house. We believe his assertion that he did not know he was not working with Highland Park Painting was disingenuous. He had no written estimate, no contract, never paid Highland Park Painting one dime and we believe it is unlikely he did not know he was contracting with an individual and not our company. He paid Highland Park Painting nothing and did not tell us of his arrangement with the individual painter until after he was dissatisfied with the side arrangement he had made with the rogue painter.

During the prep phase, the workers broke an outside light fixture, and left tools, broken glass from the fixture and gutter mounting nails in the yard. I discovered the broken fixture hanging on bare wires. The workers never said a word. At that point I asked the foreman to make sure that the workers cleaned up the site. Not leave tools and nails in the yard. At the completion of the painting, again, tools and clothing were left behind in the yard. The crew did not deal with my previous complaints. The paint job was sub-standard. The front door jam was not painted and there was paint over spray in several areas. Windows were poorly painted, and not all windows were even freed up where painted shut. I suspect that the two coats of paint that were specified were not completed because there are places that were completely missed. The company will not finish the work. Will not return repeated calls. BBB complaint was filed after over five months of failure complete work.
Description of Work: Complete exterior painting to include two coats of paint. Because of color change, as well as caulking and pressure wash. Regardless of the incorrect statements from Highland Park Painting LLC, they never finished the job. Anyone that wants to vist my house and see that these items were never finished. It is now May 2012, and still no calls over this time period. No drop by visits, not notes on the door. So much for their 5 year warranty. Highland Park Painting LLC can write on Angiie's List what ever they want, but the proof is in the end result. They wrote: NOW THAT WE ARE AWARE THAT SOME ISSUES ARE OUTSTANDING WE WILL SCHEDULE A MEETING AT THE HOUSE WITH THE MEMBER PROMPTLY TO HAVE A LOOK AND FINISH UP LINGERING TOUCH UPS, AS WE ALWAYS DO. No calls, no visits, no customer service. Come look for yourself.

Job was done very poorly. Final price of carpentry work was 2 - 3 times higher than estimate. Poor quality, e.g. There were large gaps where the boards didn t meet up. After one attempt to fix the boards, they were sawed off unevenly and caused a few planks to crack. After job was ''done'', (1) our rock path was stain covered. It was promised that this would be taken care of, but nothing happened. (2) White splatters of paint on window screens. (3) Stain on couch. Dog stepped into spilled stain. Not taken care of. (4) Poor craftsmanship on cedar planks (they eventually had to seal the gaps with caulk because after min. Of 3 attempts they still didn t get it right not to mention many of the planks were cut in halves or quarters to replace only what was needed .The appearance is not great). (5) I still haven t received a receipt after several requests (to the office as well as foremen and managers.)

2/18/10: We posted a response to this in 2006. Angie's List advises us that this detail is "lost". At this point I will note that the foreman on this job was short lived and is long gone. We strive for perfection, so even one unhappy customer in 1000 is too many. We take pride in noting that since the last negative report on Angie's List in January 2007 we have completed interior and exterior painting for 2000 customers without a single negative report on Angie's List.

Paid $6000 for interior painting, which was not a bad price for the work, but I quickly found out why. Manager showed up late on the first day of the job, did a walk through, and disappeared. Never heard from him since. Left me for days with a crew that spoke little English and had even less painting skills. Prep work was nonexistent, brush work and cleanup were sloppy. Service did not live up to the promised quote. The crew was very hard working, and willing to go back and fix problems or do touch ups when I asked for it, but didn't have the abilities, knowledge, or experience to do a good job. I can prep and paint better than any of these guys, which isn't saying much.
