After purchasing a fixer-upper home as an investment, we decided to consider replacing the front door and five interior doors. Being completely uneducated about doors and the complexities of installing them, we went to a big box store and purchased a bunch of doors, tried routing them ourselves and found out how completely frustrating it is to hang a door in an existing jam. We bailed on our do-it-yourself project and got a recommendation from our General Contractor to call Williston Door. I was leery as I assumed a company that specializes in doors would cost a lot and the property we needed doors for was a rental where we need to keep costs manageable. Well, this was a poor assumption on my part! Not only was Williston door less expensive than the big box store, but the education we received was invaluable. Matt arrived to do an assessment and estimate within a few days of our initial call. We told him what doors we thought we needed based on the home inspector's suggestions and Matt quickly educated us that most of the doors did not need to be replaced and brought us up-to-date on current building codes. We immediately saved $700. We waffled on whether or not to replace interior doors, which could have been replaced by either purchasing a door and hanging in the original jam (about $50 per door vs. $60+ at big box) or purchasing pre-hung doors (about $75 per door vs. $100 at big box). Matt took all the measurements so he could be prepared for either scenario as we debated the investment. Matt quoted us a three day turnaround on doors not in-stock, which we would have needed based on the non-standard trim we needed to match. This timeline works excellent on investment properties where time is of the essence. Matt also advised that the existing doors were still in good shape and with a bit of sanding and paint would be fine. We had already purchased an exterior front door from the big box guys, so we decided to keep it vs the hassle of returning it. In the end, we decided not to purchase any doors at this time, although Williston Door would have saved us considerable money. We are so impressed with the knowledge and honest feedback this company gave us that we will be calling Williston Door the next time we need a door and definitely skipping the big box stores.
