I had a problem with the alarm going off for no reason and every time the alarm went off the police would come. If the police come more than a couple times within a period, they charge you too. So, I actually had to cut the wire so the alarm wouldn?t go off. So, I had no alarm for probable 18 months of the 2-year contract. It was either too sensitive or had a short in the wiring. It was a complete waste of money!
I called Dynamark to cancel the contract when i was moving and I was informed that there was a $99 "early cancellation fee". So i said 'oh that's not possible. It's not early. You've been monitoring this alarm for 8 years and i haven't signed anything since it was installed." " Oh...it automatically renews if you don't tell us otherwise. The only way to avoid it is to get the new owner to take over the contract." So apparently the best way they've found to get continued business is to blackmail their clients rather then to trust their goodwill and reputation. With this setup unless you cancel well ahead of your move date on the contract renewal date, i'm not sure how one would avoid this $99 fee in any scenario. I suppose if you knew you were moving in August and your renewal was in January and you were organized enough to keep track of that you could cancel in January, 8 months before your move. I don't know. I am constrained by the bounds of logical thinking so utter lunacy sometimes eludes me.
Annnnd....they weren't satisfied with $99 either. Two mos. later I received a monitoring bill from them and when i called figuring it was a simple error, i was informed that because I didn't send them their email back confirming my cancellation which i'd done by phone they'd continued to bill me for an alarm that sits in a house which i no longer owned for two more months so now I owe them another $90. The absurdity is actually laughable when you think about the complete absence of common sense here - a charge for services that were verbally cancelled and truly acknowledged to have been cancelled because we argued over the cancellation fee for the contract that can't logically BE cancelled.
Aside from the questionable legalities of this, is the fact that they don't take their customer relationships very seriously, another reason you'll want to consider doing business here. So over 8 years i paid over $4,000 in monitoring fees but my feeling is that wasn't enough and they need to squeeeeze whatever they could out of me. At this point I've paid nothing and I'm actually having the matter reviewed because while I know shysters like this count on people not wanting to go to the time or expense over $200, I really feel that someone has to step up and start hitting back at this type of unfair business practice. I, ironically, avoid the likes of ADT because i wanted a company that is more local and then this happens.
So keep track of your contract if they install your alarm and monitor it. Because the back end is costly. When you're assessing system costs, I suggest you add that $99 to it unless you are a very organized person.
I was introduced to Dynamark Systems by our Builder as their Low Voltage Subcontractor. Dynamark was to provide a list of standard items and also offer extras and upgrades for additional monies during and after construction completion.
I contacted Dynamark's representative well in advance of our design center appointment to discuss what I wanted to accomplish and to understand what would be provided by Dynamark during the construction phase. I had several email exchanges, phone calls, exchanging of preliminary plans and equipment that lead up to a face-to-face meeting, in the model home, prior to our design center appointment to go over every detail and aspect of what I wanted to accomplish. I did this to establish a solid relationship before work started and to feel comfortable about purchasing equipment and having them complete the installation post construction, after closing. Based upon my meetings with the system designer, we seemed to hit it off and be on the same page. We had many conversations, emails, text exchanges and everything seemed to be going in the right direction. I was made to feel very comfortable and assured that everything I was asking for was routine work for them.
Dynamark was to provide Flat Panel Pre-Wiring at 4 locations, Cat5 & RG6 runs to every room including the low voltage Demarc Box, 2-Channel Music Pre-wiring in 4 locations and a 7.2 Home Theater Setup in the Great Room including two (2) in-wall subwoofers that required me to to pre-purchase the backboxes for installation during construction. Plans were drawn up with detailed notes about placement and every aspect of what Dynamark was to provide.
During the pre-drywall inspection I met with the system designer to go over the raw install. I found several wires contracted for missing or in the wrong location, flat panel pre-wires in the wrong location...notes were taken, pictures taken, emails sent. I was assured the install techs would get things straightened out. The subwoofer backboxes were not installed according to the plan and were in the wrong location. Pictures were taken, plans circled and sent to the system designer who was to have them moved prior to drywall.
Several weeks passed and pictures began to circulate prior to final inspection. Not only weren't the subwoofer backboxes moved but, almost all other wiring/flat panel issues were ignored as well. No explanation was given nor did there seem to be any sense of urgency to get things right. It became clear that Dynamark really oversold it capabilities a one mistake lead to another and to another.
Fast forward to 45 days past closing and I have finally given up fighting with Dynamark for a refund of the subwoofer backboxes that were installed in the wrong location and not according to the signed agreed upon plans. Even though the charge is several months old I am now attempting to have this credit card charge disputed as I have every email, text etc. from the system designer promising that a refund is coming but, has not.
Thanks to Dynamark, I now have to hire a competent contractor to come in and perform the work I already paid for. BUYER BEWARE. Please do not get suckered in like I was. I can not recommend Dynamark for anything but, guaranteed disappointment.
In addition to the above mentioned problems, when the workman came to install the alarm, he left my patio door open slightly. I didn't notice it until I began to see alot of flying insects in the house over a period of about a week. When I realized the door was slightly ajar I tried to close and lock it, but I couldn't because it requires alot of strength to close and lock. I called Dynamark and told them that their worker had left the door open and that he possibly had even broken the door, and could they send someone out to look at it. The representative told me to call the builder. I called the builder and told him that I thought the door might be broken because I couldn't lock it, he came right out and secured the door for me. I am providing this example to demonstrate that from the first dealings with this company they have been unresponsive and dissmissive of my concerns.
"All Dynamark Systems come with a full year parts and labor warranty. I show there were 2 alarms since February 2011. Both alarms came from the motion detector and in one of those instances the monitoring company reached the customer prior to dispatching police but she had no pass code. Customer can call me and we will be more than happy to replace her motion detector and this will alleviate all problems."
