Contact Small Jobs Electric whenever you need a professional electrician with more than 30 years of experience serving residential clients, the local company can handle any of your electrical needs at home. The electrician arrived at the appointed time, changed the fans and cleaned up the empty boxes and old equipment. Small Jobs Electric has a fixed price list for services. The final bill was $188, including the voucher purchased during an Angie's List promotion.
Description of Work: I had the electrician change out two old (but still working) fans on the covered patio.

The workers showed up on time and went to work. I received a call from my wife telling me it was going to cost $163 for them to finish the job. $163!?!?!? I purchased a coupon for $50 which was supposed to include $75 credit towards service. So what I'm left to believe is it cost $75 plus $163 for a total of $238 to wire a single ceiling light fixture. This cost seems exceptionally high for the work that was performed. When I asked my wife to help me with this review for the service we received, she said "I feel like we got taken advantage of". This was a small job. I purchased a coupon for a small job and it ended up costing me $213 for wiring a single light fixture. That is way too high and the next time I'll just hire a handyman. The worst part is that this was my first experience using an Angie's List contractor. I have lost faith in the Angie's List concept after my experience with Small Jobs Electric. I am now very skeptical of the offers I have received from Angie's List contractors ever since. Perhaps I am over-reacting, but I still feel that $213 is way too much money to wire a light fixture, especially for a company in which this is their expertise. I do not recommend Small Jobs Electric based on the cost of service. Although the workmanship seems to be okay (I wasn't here, but the light is working) I feel like they did not honor the intent of the coupon and the "value" and Angie's List subscriber should anticipate receiving. Despite the company's rebuttal below, I have changed my overall grade to a "C". I have to give proper weight to the final service, which is a working light fixture. However, the response below does nothing to explain the exceptionally high cost for such a small job, regardless of what some website or book says. And I stand by my earlier claim that this job cost me $213, NOT $163 as the company argues. Why they do not include the $50 cost of the Angie's List deal along with the $163 confuses me, and misleads those reading this review. And this response does not address the claim that the $50 coupon included a $75 credit towards service. Again I say, buyer beware. If you have a lot of money to spend I'm sure Small Jobs Electric will do a fine job for you. I agree, no one forced us to have the work done, we just wanted to have our light fixed. I will say that I did learn something very valuable through this experience. I had no idea Angie's List deals could be refunded. Had I known this, I doubt we would have consented to have the work done at the quoted price.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's list coupon for $49 from Small Jobs Electric. I had a light fixture in my kitchen that quit working. I suspected it was because of a wiring issue, as I installed the light myself and I'm just not much of a DIY'er. The service wires in the ceiling were kind of short and I wasn't able to connect them to the lighting fixtures wire's securely. I purchased an Angie's List deal from Small Jobs Electric to fix the wiring for my light. The deal was described this way: $49 for an Electrical Service Call + $75 Credit Toward Service and MORE!

Response from Small Jobs Electric
First we'd like to clear up the fact the homeowner did not pay $213 for our services. The total cost of what they paid that day was $163. Without the big deal, the total normally would have been $238. Although we are sorry to hear that this homeowner felt like we were "taking advantedge" of them, according to Service Magic the national average to wire and install a fixture is between $249-$422. The total price to complete this job was presented to the homeowner BEFORE any work was started., so if they felt uncomfortable with the price all they had to do was tell us and we would have thanked them for the opportunity and wished them a nice day. Then they could have gotten a refund for the Big Deal from Angie's List. No one forced them to have the work done, and we do not use high pressure sales techniques on people, as we don't like when they're used on us! We'd also like to remind homeowners that a licensed Professional's services are always going to cost more than a handyman! Obviously we are licensed, we have to have insurance for bonding, liability and workman's comp, our minimum warranty on our work is 3 years, we have a live person anwering all of your calls...The bottom line is the master electrician arrived on time for the appointment, the price was presented to this customer up front, they agreed and authorized us to do the work and they signed saying everything was done to their satisfaction.

this is the second time we have used this service. the service was good then and quality was just as good the second time. They came the day called. We were given a time window and they were prompt with a follow up call to give notice they were enroute. They told us how much it would cost and there were no surprises. Service man was prompt, explained everything and professional. Could not ask for a better service. They accepted the agnies coupon for a discount. It does not get any better.

The lights look great! They really add a lot to our bedroom, it was so dark and cave-like before. Now my wife can read in bed at night and they used a smart home switch so I can dim them, set a scene with them or just plain turn them off with a remote I can keep on my nightstand - super cool! Small Jobs is very reasonable, they're quick, clean and worth every cent.
Description of Work: I fancy myself to be a do-it-yourself kind of guy but the reality is that I'm not all that handy. After attempting to surprise my wife by upgrading our lighting from the old ugly lay-in lights that take ballasts to recessed lights and messing it up badly, I called on my old friends at Small Jobs Electric. These guys have rescued me before from my do-it-yourself attempts and I don't know when/how I'll learn that it's easier to just call in the professionals to begin with! Anyhow, they were able to take care of the work the same day (so my wife had her surprise ready and waiting for her when she got home from work after all!).

Excellent! The tech was out on a holiday and was happy to be there. He had what he needed with him so he didn't have to run out to any store further prolonging when I could get started cooking. I love these people!
Description of Work: When I got up on Thanksgiving morning and turned the light on in my kitchen...nothing happened. I really needed it working because I was making dinner for whole family for the first time and my house was dark. I didn't know what to do. I've used Small Jobs before but I didn't think they'd be open seeing as how it was a holiday. I called anyway on an off-chance and low and behold, a real person answered!!!! They were able to get someone out to my home within 30 minutes of my call. I have always been really happy with them but I have to say I was stunned with how fast they were able to accommodate me. I was stressed enough with cooking dinner so having them there fast really took a burden off of me! I'm more grateful than I could ever say for such fast, super-friendly service!

It couldn't have gone better! It was the first time we've ever needed to use an electrician and they were just so great and easy to work with. They answered all of my questions and the girl who answered the phone was just so sweet! (Another plus - I didn't ever get an anwering machine, always a live person). Definitley recommend them!
Description of Work: Ever since we plugged in our Christmas lights our outlets outside have been tripping. It was a lot of work to get the house decorated so we called Small Jobs Electric to get everything working. I was so impressed with them! It was the first time I've used them but it won't be the last for sure. They were punctual, they called before they came, they wore shoe covers (even though they had to keep taking them off and on as they came inside the house), they found the problem quickly and they were up front about they way they charge.

The company sent out an electrictian that said the services we need would outside of his scope and would send another one. A few days later another individual showed up and having assed our needs declined to take the job. The job by the way was to correct a "handyman's" work which caused some outdoor lighting to not work. Eventhough we had agreed to pay up to a certain amount to have the problem repaired, they declined to take the job. In summary I cannot rate this company for it's services as we did not receive any.

I was so impressed with the technician. Even though it took him a few hours to find the problem he never gave up and was determined to have everything working before he left. He found the problem was coming from an outlet in a completely different room! Before he left he even looked over my panel to make sure everything looked proper and was in good working condition. I'm so glad everything is working and I can have my peace of mind back!
Description of Work: I had a bank of plugs that weren't working in my living room. I had my neighbor check it out because he's an electrician but he couldn't find the problem. After having a house burn down in the neighborhood due to electrical issues I am wary of leaving things like this go so I called Small Jobs (who I've used in the past). They came out the same day I called!

The electrician was punctual, pleasant, and knowledgable. He explained the two items that needed to be fixed and how much they would cost. His explanation seemed good and I agreed to the $399.00 price. However, he was only at my house for one hour, including diagnostic and work time. After the job was done, I told the electrician that I thought $399.00 was rather steep for one hour at the job site. That was in addition to the $49.00 I spent on Angie's List for the coupon for the work for this company. I asked the electrician about another job I might have, and was quoted a price over twice the amount given by another company. I will not use this company again.
Description of Work: I had four electrical outlets that were not working. There was one main GFS outlet in the garage that was not working that controled the four outlets. The electrician replaced the one GFS outlet in the garage, in order, to fix the four outlets inside the house. The electrician also noticed that two wires were attached to one fuse in the fuse box. He fixed this problem too.

The contractors went around the job site with my son who is in construction after the job and he told me it is some of the best work he had ever seen. They very carefully took out all of my plants and then reinserted them after they were done. They made sure that the job site was returned to the condition that they found it before they got here. They also took the time to program the panel that they installed. Nathaniel and all of his workers were all very polite as well. They were very appreciative of any refreshments we gave throughout the process.
Description of Work: We purchased a Big Deal for $999 for Complete Electrical Panel Swap-out Including FREE Whole House Inspection and Lifetime Warranty! They also retrenched some electrical conduit in our backyard from where a previous contractor did a poor job. There was a lot of obstacles in the backyard that they had to take into account in order to get that job done.

When I called the company, the individual answering the phone was very pleasant and helpful and had me scheduled for the diagnostic within a day. The technician actually showed up early and spent several hours methodically and diligently searching for the cause for the outage in the circuit of lights and outlets. At the point he narrowed it down to possibly being located under the house, he explained that he'd need to send a "younger" technician out to explore this area. He also explained that there were several connections in the attic that were poorly configured and exposed, creating a fire hazard risk. He cleaned up after himself and explained that there would be no charge since he did not find the source of the problem. He was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. The company offered to have another electrician out the next day, but I had a schedule conflict, so they came out the day after. Again, the technician showed up a few minutes early, and again, he diligently and methodically searched for the source of the outage. He was unable to find it, so he explained there was no charge. He actually showed me photos of exposed and poorly configured wires in the attic and again explained risk. He suggested re-wiring and cleaning up the entire circuit and provided an estimate within a few minutes. I was able to schedule the work within a couple of days. Two electricians showed up, again a few minutes early and completed the work within a day. It was a laborious and messy task, but they handled it professionally and courteously and cleaned every bit of mess. In addition, there was no drywall damage, even though the technician anticipated some. I think it's amazing that the company spent two several hour calls trying to diagnose the problem and did not charge! They stand by their word. And the fee for the actual work, $1,500, seemed very reasonable for the scope. I have used them before with the same satisfaction, and they will be my electrician of choice going forward!
Description of Work: I contacted the company because a circuit of lights and outlets were not working. On the first two visits, neither electrician could pin point the problem, and in fact, alerted me to multiple instances of dangerously exposed wiring connection in the attic that were not up to code. The recommended rewiring this entire circuit, not only to get it functioning, but to bring the wiring up to code and eliminate the risk of a fire from the existing sloppy wiring. So, subsequent to the findings of the diagnostics, they completed the re-wiring of the entire circuit and cleaned up dangerous, not-to-code wiring in the attic.

called for service because after electrical upgrade in kitchen by previous owner, the garbage disposal was getting to current. Also, the hot water heater circuit breakers kept tripping. Jaz was very polite and professional. Before starting, he showed me his folder with standard rates for various services that they might perform. He then quickly diagnosed the problems and again went over with me how much would cost to fix. He spent a couple of hours here and everything now seems to be working properly. I thought it was a little expensive, but frankly I don't know how much that type of electrical repair work should cost. I'm still learning about stuff like that. Overall, I am satisfied with the results and would consider using Small Jobs in the future.

To begin with, when I called Small Jobs Electric, I was able to talk to a person right away?I didn?t have to leave a message with a machine, which is something that really bugs me. I called on a Friday and they scheduled me for 2:00 the following Monday. This was the first time I was able to schedule something this quickly; we are doing some major renovations to a home we just purchased and this was quite a refreshing change from the usual having to wait for a week to get what we wanted done. When he arrived (on time as well) Jaz was efficient, helpful and performed what needed to be done in a professional manner. I had wanted an outdoor grill disconnected so we could have it removed, and then I asked him to go over the home and check to be sure we had no obvious electrical problems as we had purchased a foreclosure that had sat empty for almost a year. He discovered some junctions in the attic with no boxes and told me the cost to have it corrected. When I asked him to find out why the back bedroom didn't have power, he discovered that the ground wire had been cut at the service panel and as it looked like it was done on purpose, did a thorough inspection of the panel to see if there were more problems. As it turned out, there were several compromises to the electrical work in the panel, including circuits labeled incorrectly, more grounds that were cut as well as a section of wire supplying power to the water heater. Needless to say, this created a potential for a very hazardous situation occurring, potentially even an electrocution! Jaz called for additional help and completely reworked the panel and check every wire to be sure it was safe and correctly labeled. By the time he and his helper left after 7 PM, I felt not only more comfortable with the state of the electrical portion of the home, but also comfortable with the knowledge that I can call on Small Job Electric to help me with any of my electrical needs in the future. I was even pleasantly surprised at the bill. Well Done!!! You have a customer for life!
Description of Work: Installing new outlets, checking for electric problems, disconnecting appliances, getting power to part of the home.
