As first, I was concerned since when I talked to the company and asked what they charged per hour I was told they charge per job. This made me skeptical, but the technician actually had a laminated booklet which had all of the prices listed. The electrician that arrived was Jaz and he was very professional and immediately put shoe coverings on every time we walked in the house as we discussed the tasks needed. Once I approved the costs, he began the work right away. The ceiling fan went smoothly, however, because the tripping of the breaker was not a consistent problem he had a little difficulty locating the problem. He was extremely thorough in finding the problem. I was definitely impressed when he went into the attic and physically looked at the romex from one end to the other to ensure there was no damage. Just when he was about to give up he happened to flip a switch on another circuit. This caused the trouble circuit to trip. After discussing the problem, we came to an agreement for the repair and he took care of it quickly. I also had him give me an estimate for adding an outside circuit to light a flagpole, and have just scheduled that for later this week. If I need any further work done I will definitely be giving Small Jobs Electric a call.
Description of Work: I had two things that needed to be addressed. First was the installation of a ceiling fan, and second was troubleshooting a circuit where the breaker kept tripping with no specific reason or pattern. The electrician that arrived was Jaz and he was very professional and immediately put

Services Performed: Ceiling fan repair Installation of dimmers Installation of surge protector
Description of Work: I had Jason come out to work on my home and overall it was a good, albeit pricy experience. I moved into a brand new home about a year ago and had an "electrician" that did side jobs install 5 ceiling fans for me. Well, he was lower cost but didn't do a good job. When I tried reaching him 4 months ago, he never called me back....hence the call to Angie's List to sign up. This was my first Angie's List experience and it went well. Jason was professional, punctual, and very courteous. I explained to him that the 4 Hunter ceiling fans on the first floor worked fine, as long as there wasn't another fan being used close by. Because the previous "electrician" had failed to set the ceiling fan settings properly, if I turned on the fan or light in one room with the remote control, it would turn off the fan or light in the other room---very frustrating! Jason was able to set each remote to work on in the room it was intended to be in and even advised me to label the remotes so I wouldn't get confused if I moved the remotes around the house (I have 5 of the same fans). The fan in my upstairs loft was very wobbly and had actually short circuited back last summer. I had not used it since for fear of it falling or being unstable. Jason checked it out, assured me it was fine, and explained that because the ceiling was lower on the second floor, it was hung differently than downstairs. He made me feel comfortable and safe enough to use that fan again. Next, I wanted Jason to add dimmers to the chandelier over my dining room table as well to the canned lighting in my family room, something the house did not come with (ambience type lighting). Also, I wanted him to change the way the builder had configured the 4 switch panel in my first floor area that controlled the chandelier and the canned lighting. The builder had set the first switch to turn on the family room lights, even though the panel was located in my dining room (on the wall). It made more sense to me to have the first light switch operate the chandelier and the next one operate the lights in the living room. Jason did this just fine, however, when he went to try and match the switch cover, he discovered he was out of white. He had to make a trip to Lowe's and pick up the item. Also, the dimmer he installed to work with the chandelier did not work with CFL lights--prompting another trip to Lowe's. The dimmer for the canned lights ended up flickering, so he had to make some adjustments to make that work. Overall, he apologized for the delay and the 2 trips to Lowe's---we were now over 2 hours (the time he had originally quoted for the job). He actually ended up spending a total of 5 hours altogether. The last item that Jason worked on was installing a surge protector. He was very thorough in explaining the benefits and features and checked to see if I had one (I did not). He explained the lifetime warranty and replacement, so that only took about 45 minutes to complete and it was something I hadn't planned on but felt that was a good opportunity to have it installed. Finally, I asked Jason to provide a qoute on lighting for under my kitchen cabinets and he was able to do so. Overall, I think it was a good experience. The dimmers and the labor associated with the installation of the dimmers and ceiling fan repair accounted for over $400 of the bill, which I found to be too expensive, in my opinion. However, I had never had this type of work performed so maybe I underestimated costs and should have shopped around more.

Nathaniel is always punctual, and when he does his work, it is so thorough, and very complete. He just rewired our sheds, installing an outlet, as well as a light switch. He always explains what he is doing, he is very pleasant. It is nice that he is so fair with his pricing. It is refreshing that he presents different ways that we can have the work done.

Electrician systematically evaluated all problems, obtained consultation amped price during the project so I was always informed as to cost. When I called Small Jobs Electric they were specific about the dispatch fee, so that was no surprise. I was pleased with all the work, the thoroughness of the electrician. I will always use them in the future.
Description of Work: Evaluated and repaired well pump. The major electrical switch needed to be replaced. Electrician purchased replacement from original well drilling company and fixed the problem. Evaluated and repaired non- functioning outlet. Resolved problem in a cost effective manner rather than a much more expensive option. Price included all parts, the dispatch fee and the price for each problem resolved.

I had gotten 2 estimates previously to Small Jobs Electric coming out to my home from other reputable companies I had used before. I had Small Jobs come out because they are on Angies List. I needed 3 indoor fixtures hung and 2 outdoor fixtures hung, 3 new timer switches installed and an additional plug installed into my structured wiring box. I had 2 quotes of between $275 and $300 for the job with no more than 3 hours to do the work. Small Jobs Electric gave me an estimate in excess of $800. They did not leave the estimate with me. Be sure you get other estimates before hiring this company and beware of companies that charge for estimates.
Description of Work: No services were performed due to the estimate being extremely overpriced. I should have known when they charge for the estimate.

The men were professional, polite, and patient with our barking dogs. They asked questions before starting each job to make sure they understood what was expected and then asked us to inspect the completed work before they left. They also cleaned up quite thoroughly after they finished working in each room. In addition, they took the old ceiling fan to dispose of for us. I will recommend this company to friends and family in need of electrical service and be calling them in the future as work continues on our home.
Description of Work: Our home was in need of some electrical repairs, lights replaced, outlets repaired, in addition to taking down/replacing ceiling fan and installation of a new microwave.

Small jobs sent one of their electricians first to give me a detailed estimate and options. They were considerate of my compressed schedule and worked with me to get the job done in a very timely manner that fit with my schedule and needs. They did a great job, and even provided an extra electrician to work on the job so that they could ensure it was done on time - it was actually a few hours ahead of schedule and they were able to get the inspection done before schedule, too. They were very professional and did a great job.

We've used Small Jobs Electric at least three times over the years with a span of time in between they have always met my expectations and more. The servicemen have always been courteous and not condescending to women. They seem honest as I had priced others, including parts, before deciding to use them. They come in, do the work and clean up after themselves.
Description of Work: We've used them from installing a new breaker box, spa connections, outlets, dimmer switches, etc. Actually I need to call them now for additional work. I would highly reccommend them.

This was the second time I used Ron Smith at Small Jobs Electric. He originally did a complete electrical inspection of the house. During the visit he installed and replaced lighting fixtures. He did more electrical work but I don't remember exactly what he did. I do remember we were so pleased he was the only electrician we considered when we needed additional work. On the second trip he wired our kitchen for a garbage disposal installation. He worked in the fuse box and pre-wired for a future dishwasher installation. We could not be happier. We will be doing more home renovations and will always call Small Jobs Electric and ask for Ron Smith. Thank you Ron!

The following is a list of work completed for our kitchen remodel: Upgraded our main panel to 200 Amps Added 5 new recessed lights Replaced Aluminum wire with New Copper Wire for a Wall oven Added a 220v and 110v circuit for an Island (which needed power for a wine cooler and a cook top) moved 3 outlets and 3 switches Moved an outlet for a dishwasher Added a 110v circuit for a vent hood. The first day the electrical panel was upgraded. Jaz and his helper worked most of the day to complete this task. We had built-in wooden storage shelves on our wall next to our panel that required some modification for him to be able to complete the work. Jaz removed everything from our garage shelves, modified the wood shelves to accommodate the bigger electric panel and replaced everything as it was. Jaz essentially rebuilt our wood garage shelves. We had an outlet right next to our panel and Jaz brought it up to code for us by replacing it with a GFCI at no extra cost. Jaz took the time to clean up any mess that was made. The next trip Jaz arrived on time and worked hard to install all of our recessed lighting and moved some outlets and switches. Jaz took time to help us decide the best location for the recessed lights and his expertise was greatly appreciated. The placement of all of the lights worked out extremely well. Again before leaving Jaz cleaned up the work site very thoroughly. The last trip Jaz made was to move the wire for the dishwasher, wire the vent hood, move some light switches, wire for the wall oven, and to chip up the concrete slab to run the wires for the 2 circuits for the island. We had a long stretch of concrete that needed to be chipped up, Jaz and his helper spent most of the day working on that. It turned out very well. They put conduit in the trench and refilled with concrete. Unfortunately after the cabinets were installed we realized we were off by about 5" on the location of the conduit for the island. Jaz came back out to the house and chipped up more of the floor and moved the conduit to the correct location free of charge. During the chipping of the floor, a lot of dust was generated. Jaz put up plastic to keep all the dust in the immediate area and again cleaned up the area. Over the weekend I called Small Jobs Electric to schedule the visit to finish up some of the items. I was told that from 9-11 on Monday someone would be out. Around 8:30 I was called and informed that someone would be here around 9:30, but it would not be Jaz. Nathaniel arrived on time and finished running the wires for the island and then informed me that we would need an additional outlet in our island to be in compliance with the NEC. This was not part of my original estimate from Jaz, so Nathaniel added the GFCI outlet free of charge. Our overall experience with Small Jobs Electric has been great. They have been very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Nathaniel even invited us over to his house to see his undercabinet lighting when he heard we may be looking for a similar look to his. I would definitely recommend this company. They have gone well out of their way to ensure that we were happy with all the work performed. During the stress of a major kitchen remodel Small Jobs Electric made it less stressful. I would definitely recommend them to family and friends. Just one more note - every time we have called Small Jobs the scheduler on the phone has been very polite and extremely helpful.

My house was built in 1973 so when I began to experience flickering lights in the den as well as my daughters room it was worrisome. Fire was my biggest concern and I dreaded the cost of repairs. Small Job Electric was fabulous. They were prompt, thorough, affordable and patient. I add the patient part because when the electrician inspected my daughters room he determined that the problem was her fan not an electrical problem with the house. He repaired the electrical issue in the den and I ran to Lowes for a new fan (and doorbell) and he graciously installed them. I have no more flickers and I would definitely use their service again.

We were changing, updating, our bathroom fixtures. When my husband removed the old fixture in my mom's bathroom, that circuit went out. We couldn't find a tripped switch in our electrical panel and couldn't figure out the problem. I didn't want my mom to be without lights, through the weekend, in the two rooms on this circuit. I got on Angie's List and decided to call Small Jobs Electrical to see if they could come out that day, a Saturday. The person I talked to on the phone was very nice and indicated that she would pass on our request to the scheduling person, who would soon call to schedule the technician visit. Within about ten minutes I got the call and had the visit scheduled for that afternoon. Although there was a four hour window, she indicated that the technician would call when he was on his way. We did get a call about a half hour before he arrived. Nathaniel went right to work and quickly discovered what we had missed; the thrown circuit switch was on our backup generator panel. Of course we should have figured that out, but Nathaniel didn't make us feel at all silly for not catching that. He then went through and checked all of the circuits to make sure there weren't any real problems. Nathaniel then explained why the circuit was tripped and how to avoid a repeat of the problem. He then went that extra step by labeling the circuits on our main panel that are controlled by the generator panel so that we would know where to check if we have another outage. Although there was really nothing to fix, we kicked ourselves a bit for needing to call an electrician. However, as my mom pointed out, it was better to have an electrician check things out and give us the peace-of-mind knowing that all was ok. I will definitely use Small Jobs Electrical again.
Description of Work: Found the cause for one of our electrical circuits not working, in our backup generator panel. Checked all of our circuits to make sure there were no other problems. Labeled those circuits that are controlled by our backup generator panel. Explained what had caused the problem and how to avoid having the same outage again.

The service was performed the same day I made the call. The tech. Jason was prompt and was attentive to my needs as I explained the nature of work I needed done. Although the work was not complex, it got difficult as it started to rain during the time of repair. The tech. did not allow the weather to dampen the quality of his work. He was courteous and very professional. He took the time to even go over the work he was doing and walk me through the changes upon completion. I will MOST CERTAINLY have this technician back for my future electrical needs. Although the pricing isn't necessary the cheapest, you get what you pay for with this company - quality in their workmanship. He also cleaned up very meticulously upon completion of the work.
