Issue after issue for years. Tanks that leaked and had to be replaced. Tried to charge us for leaks. Puts invoices on door handle that blows away vs mailing. Nickel and dimes for everything. Horrible customer service.

Upon moving into my new residence the Discount Propane tank was already installed and was told by the realtor, or so I thought, that the gas in the tank was paid for and Discount Propane would most likely be sending me something in the mail soon to establish my own account.   Since it was Discount Propane's tank you can't get delivery from any other gas company so it wasn't as though whoever bought the house could anything but work with them.

Several weeks after moving in, the hot tub stopped heating up so I called Discount Propane and they advised me a technician came out and blocked the gas because they didn't know if someone was living there.  I said "couldn't you have simply left a note on the door" and "didn't you see all the lawn furniture by the hot tub"?  But they said no and advised I had to pay (approximately $85)  for then to send a technician to "unblock" the gas line and do a "safety check".  This involved a tech coming out an simply taking a crescent wrench, removing a small copper blocker (at the tank valve), reconnecting / tightening the line, and opening the gas valve on the tank. I wasn't happy about paying for a "safety inspection" that amounted to the tech walking around my heater and say everything "looked good"....but I chalked it up as a simple miscommunication. 



Discount Propane has no online payment system which is how I pay all my bills. They do have a program where you can give them authorization to charge your credit card, but I am uncomfortable with that information being out there.  In addition, they have a net 10 day payment policy and because I travel for a week or two at a time getting a payment in quickly enough proved challenging at times and I usually called and paid by credit card.   

At one point, I was a few weeks late on the rental (about $7 month / $21 per qtr without fees and taxes) and I received a call from my girlfriend that there was a Discount Propane technician waiting in front of our house when she returned.  He was demanding a payment of $50 dollars or he would shut off our gas. I told her we only owe about $24 and that if he wanted to shut off the gas  then go ahead...I was out of town and there as nothing I could do.  He hung around in front of our house for a bit, which made her feel uncomfortable, called his office and then left.  I returned a day or two later,  paid the bill and asked them to take me off automatic delivery.

Fast forward about a year later (maybe more)...my tank is getting low so I called for delivery. The office personnel says her computer shows I have a block on my gas line.  I told her I have been using it for many months and was just in it the night before so that is impossible.   She put me on hold to speak with the office manager and then tells me I will have to pay $100 for a technician to come out and check the system because she is showing I have a blocked line.  I replied that why should I have to pay $100 for their administrative error...that makes no sense.  I was put on hold again and was then told they will only charge $50....again, I ask why I should pay anything as I just need a gas delivery and clearly there is an error on their end. I was then told this was another "safety check" to which I said this is ridiculous and unethical.   I was told that was final and they would not deliver any gas unless I paid the $50 charge.  I told them I would use the remainder of the tank and then have it removed...they said ok and seemed to have cared less.  Again, you can only get gas from them if you rent their tank (so you may want to think about purchasing one if you will be in your home long term).

They picked up the tank a few days ago and I checked it that morning (it had about 15 left on the gauge).  I am interested to see if they issue me a credit for that gas or for the last 6 weeks of the rental fee I paid.  Either way, I would not do business with Discount Propane again.

Showed up on time and had everything completed in an hour.  Explained everything to my wife about how the service and refills work.  Had my first refill three months later and that process was seamless, they just left a bill at my front door.

What a disaster! I would never recommend these people! I should have known better from the beginning, but trusted the other reviews that perhaps my opening experience was an anomaly. It wasn't. During the first phone call the office staff was pleasant and helpful. I called back to secure the install, and that's when the trouble began. An estimator was dispatched to look at the project and quoted a and quot;completeand quot; cost. Then he asked me to sign several documents that were clearly targeted for a commercial job. (the estimator even said he had never come to a residence before.) The documents would have waived all my rights if the install went poorly and several other unacceptable repercussions. I refused to sign. They agreed. They assured me that once the stove and cabinets arrived, the install would be easy. The first day the workman arrived and did not have all of the materials needed. They did what they could and told me they would try to return the next day, without guarantees. They did return. The workman stated that they couldn't finish however, because the countertops where not installed and would reschedule when that occurred. While I was not happy (the estimator saw the cook top and should not have promised an install prior to countertops), we agreed. A bill was sent. Since the home was an ongoing major construction, no other contractors had asked for payment prior to the job completion. As a result, we did not pay, and assumed the bill was due when the work was done. When the countertops were installed I called to schedule the final hook-up of the stove. The woman was extremely rude. She informed me that the final install was not a part of the original estimate and that payment was due immediately. She stated that a late fee had been added. She continued to berate and demean me. I finally had to repeatedly ask her to stop talking. I finally got her to agree to remove the fee and gave a credit card over the phone. We were charged an additional $59.50 for the service call and per hour fee. The original and quot;finance chargeand quot; was still on the new bill and an additional late fee was assessed for non payment of the service fee that the hostile secretary told me was removed! I did not call this company back as I am tired of fighting with them. I will keep this provider until the gas is gone and have them remove the tank and go with someone else who actually understands the concept of customer service and gives complete truths in their original estimates. If this is an and quot;Aand quot; rated corporation on Angie's List, I'd hate to see what a and quot;Band quot; looks like!I'

The office staff was very friendly and gave me a quote over the phone. Their pricing was very competitive, less than what I was currently paying per gallon. I was able to purchase service over the phone and schedule a time for them to come out with one phone call. I have a busy schedule so I appreciated this convenience. The technicians who installed my new tank showed up when they said they would and were also very friendly and professional. Overall, I am satisfied with Discount Propane and would highly recommend them.

Overall it went well. They arrived when scheduled, but had a tank that was too big since they hadn't confirmed the property had sufficient room to put it at least 10 ft from the property line and 10 ft. from the dwelling per building codes. Even so, they returned later that day and installed two smaller tanks that didn't have to have that much space from the dwelling and property line. When the electrical contractor came out to run the generator, he found there was a small gas leak at the line near the generator. I called Discount Propane and they came out that same day and fixed the leak. It then passed inspection. Their phone operators were responsive and for the most part handled things well. There were a few hiccups that I guess you could expect, but they took care of any problems immediately. They called before coming out, so communications were good. They abided by their estimate. I would use them again.
