The fireplace in my newly purchased home had not been used in 10 years. Before using the fireplace I decided it was a good idea to have it inspected. Not knowing who to turn too, I tried Angie's List and found The Chimney Keeper. These guys were great! They responded to my call the very same day. They sent a team out that afternoon. The chimney was thoroughly inspected from the top down. They cleaned and vacuumed the fireplace - taping off the opening before cleaning. No soot at all seeped into my home. They left me with a detailed inspection report, explaining the minor items they found that needed to be replaced/repaired in the near future. I'll be calling them back again.

I had a chimney sweep and a firebox rebuild. I bought the Big Deal and had Chimney Keeper come out and do a chimney sweep first. Chimney Keeper had excellent communication, they called me right after I purchased the deal through Angie's List and set up an appointment to come out to the house. The price actually dropped the day after I purchased the deal, and when I contacted Angie's List and Chimney Sweeper they were friendly and efficient and allowed me to get the lower price. I was very pleased. They were punctual on the service date, and called ahead to let me know they were on their way. The sweep was quick but thorough, they had a man outside up on the roof as well as inside. They draped my fireplace to keep the soot out of my living room and swept up afterward. While I had them out to sweep, I had Nick take a look at the chimney itself, I was concerned about the firebox. Some of the mortar was crumbling and I was worried about whether or not it was safe to use. Nick said the chimney itself was in great shape and had a great "pull" (air/smoke is pulled up efficiently). He then inspected the firebox in more detail and knocked on some of the bricks with his knuckles and found it was hollow behind many of the bricks. He said it was not safe to use and recommended a firebox replacement - which would mean pulling out the old bricks and mortar and putting in new ones. I thought price he quoted was fair, and his workers were professional and polite, so I scheduled an appointment for a few weeks out. The firebox replacement was pricey, but it did take the better part of a day for them to complete the project, I could see and appreciate the labor costs associated with the job. Again, Nick was great and called me that morning to tell me they were on their way. They removed all the old bricks, chiseled down the old mortar, and put in new bricks. My firebox is a odd shape, so in order to make a nice symmetrical look, they cut down the bricks in the back so they would look even and professional. They also put a new clay floor in the fireplace, about an inch thick, and hauled away my old ratty fireplace doors. The new bricks are even and level. My only slight critique is that there were a few mortar smudges here and there on the bricks and some of the mortar between the bricks isn't absolutely perfect depth wise in spots (but definitely safe), but this is just superficial detail, the job is 99% perfect and a very safe and sound job. I'm very pleased and I've been happily using the fireplace with confidence. I rate Chimney Keeper very highly, they are very professional, easy to get ahold of and they do a quality job. CLEANING TIP: The best way to clean old soot off of brick is a solution of 1 part course table salt and 1 part dish soap. Stir into a paste and scrub in with a slightly damp wash cloth. After it dries use a brush to remove the salt. I then wiped it all down with a damp cloth and fresh water.

The Chimney Keeper Company representatives came to our home at the appointed time and explained what would be done. All questions were answered in a polite and thorough manner. The inspection and sweeping were completed, recommendations as to future service were made without any sales pressure and the area was left as clean as when the gentlemen arrived. The whole experience was a very positive one from ordering the Deal on Angie's List to having the gentlemen in our home for the sweeping process. I have and would again highly recommend this company.

They called and said that they could come earlier than scheduled. That worked for us. They arrived & visually inspected the chimney portion above the roof, and the chimney cap. It had been raining, and my roof is very steep & very high, so they decided to clean the chimney from inside. They covered the front of the fireplace & the floor area around the fireplace with tarps. They cleaned the chimney through a hole in the tarp, and vacuumed the soot from the chimney. They then removed the tarp from the fireplace & thoroughly cleaned the fireplace. They then inspected the fireplace & chimney from inside. They were very careful during the entire processed to see that there was no spillage of soot into the room. They did a complete & professional job. The price they charged was less than the quoted price because they did not have to go up on the roof.

very easy and pleasant to book appointment tthey arrived within the given time was very friendly and professional, they taped the fireplace doors so no soot would escape into the house and vaccumed up after the sweeping. they put a tarp on the carpet so nothing got on it. pleasure to do business with.

The visit went well and the issues were found quickly. The servicemen were very helpful, professional and punctual. The only advice I have is to put down newspaper and grab some paper towels becuase these men were covered in soot. The den needed a good spray of lysol after the men left.

I spoke to an employee working on a neighbor's chimney. Asked to have an estimate for repairs to my chimney. He gave me a card and said to call the office for an appointment. I called that afternoon and was told that I would receive a call shortly with a scheduled inspection. No call was received that afternoon nor the next day, I called again and was advised that she would schedule and return my call. After waiting a week to have an inspection and repairs I have serious doubts about this companies abilities. They have not had the courtesy to call and explain their apparent inability to perform.

Chimney had not been checked in 7 years very professional and experienced work completed.

They were clean and quick. I felt it was done professionally and I was always treated with respect from the time I caled for my appointment to their return with the new cap equipment. I have only rated them as Fair for the Price because I was thinking of the chimney cap purchased and don't really have a reference point for these items.

After initially providing an estimate, Nick, who I believe is the owner's son, arrived with two others to start the job. After collecting half of the cost as a deposit, one worker stayed to start the pressure washing. Nick said that he needed to leave to attend a court case, but that they would be back in the next few day to continue the job. The one worker, who was quite pleasant and a competent worker, worked from 10am to 3:30pm that first day. The next that we saw of them was 9 days later, when two workers returned to finish the pressure washing (2 hours) and for one to remain for 3-1/2 hours working to dig out some of the old mortar. 15 days later, two workers from 9:30am to 3pm applied mortar to defective areas on about 1/2 of the house. The following day, Nick and two workers came to "finish the job." They worked from 10am to 3:30pm. During the day, I questioned problem areas on sections that they had "finished." It seemed clear that their idea of fixing problem areas was a lot different than mine, although Nick tried to reassure me that I would be satisfied with the finished product. When Nick announced that they were finished and that I should do a "walk through," I started to point out several areas by our front entryway. His response was to rub some mortar with his thumb on each spot, and said "What else?" When I said that we likely could continue to do the same all around the house, he said that wasn't practical and that his sealing of the bricks was sufficient. Separately, I am skeptical that they even sealed all of the bricks. Clearly, we had a difference of what was the scope of the project. We thought that a crew of people were going to work 4 or 5 days on the job. That is not what we got. The fact that the job also got stretched out in duration was another annoyance. I found Nick to be abrasive and very unprofessional to work with. I think you would be nuts to hire him!

They are very unresponsive and have a distinct lack of follow through.

Service was prompt and efficient. They did a nice job of explaining the setup and best way to use my fireplace.

The technicians showed up as scheduled for a fireplace/chimney inspection and cleaning. They appropriately covered the fireplace to protect my house from dust during the cleaning , cleaned the chimney, performed the inspection of the fireplace and chimney and informed me of their findings. I will be contacting them to purchase a screen for the chimney as recommended.

. I called and asked for a price to replace the back and bottom stone in my fireplace. I was quoted $600 which was the same price I had received from another company so I knew that must have been the going rate for this type of repair. When they arrived and he actually got a look at the plates he said I did not need the bottom stone at this time and only replaced the back, but he also noted that the screen needed to be replaced, so the total cost was $425. They were neat and used a tarp and a vac to keep my space clean. They were honest and quick, I will be using them again.

Nick was very professional and friendly. Explained needed work in detail before it was done and price involved. Came when he said he would and called to let me know when he was on his way. He did a great job and solved a problem with an odor I was having in the chimney itself. I would definitely use him again and recommend him.

They arrived promptly at the schedule time. Very professional, they covered the floor and taped the fireplace, there was no cllean up on our part. Nic(the owner) inspected the interior of the fireplace and let us know of some needed repairs that we were not aware of. His prices were very reasonable. We would definitely recommend them
