Description of Work: Have been a lawn care customer of Trad's for over 15 years. They totally dropped the ball on my yard. With the turnover in their field personnel and lack of attention to my yard, I needed almost $2,000.00 in re-sodding just before Thanksgiving. When Bill (supervisor) reviewed the situation at my home, prior to my re-sodding, all he offered was two pallets of sod from A1 (~$240 value). Trad's lacks proactive approach, I had to constantly call for additional broadleaf control. My neighbor has the exact comments I do, as do other people in the plan who are terminating Trad's service.

Thank you for the letter. We were very saddened to receive it. We never want to disappoint our customers, but we clearly did in this case. Unfortunately, there was an infestation of dove weed, which is a weed we do not cover. Dove weed begins growing in May to June. The products that offer dove weed control are applied in cooler temperatures, so it grows in the "gap" between these product applications. There are products labeled for dove weed pre-emergence, but our experience with these products demonstrates little effectiveness (cannot treat pro-actively) and we have very limited ability to treat once emerged. Because Mr. [Member Name Removed] is a long-time customer, we did offer compensation for sod needed due to the dove weed infestation. We reached out to Mr. [Member Name Removed] to try and resolve once we received this letter and offered other compensation but that was also declined. We are willing to continue to treat for Mr. [Member Name Removed], and are willing to try other products in an effort to help and we are waiting for Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s response. This is an unfortunate situation where our ability to help and offer treatment is very limited, the products are simply not on the market. We don't like telling customers we cannot help with certain items, but sometimes we have to. There are some issues we do not have products for or the products lack efficacy, there are some pests that are resistant to the products available. There is no silver bullet, but we are willing to try to help if Mr. [Member Name Removed] is open to that option.

Description of Work: Trads treated my yard for approx. 5 years. One of my initial complaints were weeds in the yard. The weeds are now worst than when Trads started. For the first three years they performed very well and then the quality started to diminish until I had to replace with another yard service. My concerns with the yard aesthetics and weed issues were discussed with a manager at least twice with little improvement.

I now have a higher rated company from Angie's list who has made my lawn look terrific at a better price and more complete service.
Description of Work: The above listed price is based on $35 per month to spray my front lawn. To treat crab grass problems or specific weeds, I will have to pay additional monthly fees for each of the problems, and if I include my back yard, I am sure the price will increase. This makes the cost of device prohibitive.

sAs most people we have purchased plants from various nurseries, including the big box stores. While you may pay slightly more at Trad's (and sometimes not), the quality of their plants seems to be always superior to their competitors. Also, Trad's selection is huge. The staff is friendly and very knowledgable. You cannot go wrong with a visit to this place.

I heard good things about this company so I canceled my previous pest control company and signed up with Trad's. They promised to take care of everything and the first treatment was fine. But then they could not get rid of the weeds and the pests. So I used some stuff myself to kill the weeds. My major issue with them was that my brother got stung by a huge amount of fire ants and I had to pay about $500 in medical bills. I contacted them and was told they did not treat for fire ants. I contacted them and was told they do not treat for a certain type of weed. I asked them about grubs and they also said they don't take care of those. I got really mad and canceled them. I tried to contact the local owners and managers and the issue was not resolved. When I started they charged me $80 and told me I had to pay for two months because I canceled. But I already had to pay for medical bills.

{Member name removed} started service with us 5/24/12 and cancelled less than 4 months later on 9/19/12. When he called to cancel, he told the office he was cancelling because "another company came by, found weeds and fungus and he was getting stung by fire ants". He did not ask for a service call for treatment, he simply cancelled. Weeds were present when he started and we were working to control them and treated weeds 3 times in the 4 months he had service. He called to speak to a manager on 09/26/12 because he did not want to pay his bill and the manager spoke to him the next day. {member name removed} signed up for our basic, six application service. The contract states twice on the front we treat for four insects only and fire ants is not one of them, however we will gladly treat fire ants for a small fee. The contract states twice on the front and once on the back that we treat for broad leaf weeds and there is a charge for treating crabgrass and/or sedge. The contract also states on the front and on the back that the agreement is for six routine treatments and the cost is prorated over twelve months. A customer can cancel at any time but must pay for services received. {member name removed} simply did not want to pay for what was received. It is a shame {member name removed} was bitten by fire ants. Normally customers with allergies to fire ants inform us of this and sign up for the treatments in order to avoid bites and medical issues. It is unfortunate {Member name removed} simply cancelled instead of giving us the opportunity to help him, which we certainly could have done.

Every time they came, I asked them to call beforehand becuase they typically spryed when on one was home. They came before or after the service date. I asked them to come back and never did. They wont me you on the property. They didnt put any fungicide down and I dont have any results. I have called numerous times. They have sent bills to the wrong address. I hired them based on a current clients recommendation who has great results so, Im not sure if it's the company or the technician.

Thank you. According to our records, the member signed with Trad's August 2010 and cancelled her service December 2011. When the member signed with us, the lawn was in very bad condition with bare and dead spots and she had weeds that are not controllable. Given the condition of her lawn when she signed up, we told her some sod replacement was necessary and unfortunately She did not take this step. We are very clear that some weeds we cannot control (because there is no product available) and that crabgrass is treated on a seperate agreement. However, when weeds such as crabgrass are present, we cannot offer control when there are large bare areas because there is no St. Augustine grass to fill in. She requested a sod estimate in April 2011, which she declined. Very little weed control can be accomplished, no matter what type of weeds, when there is no St. Augustine grass to fill in. Weeds grow faster than grass, so weeds continuously fill in bare spots. When non-controllabel weeds fill in those spots, they become established in the lawn and cannot be controlled. We wish the member luck in her pursuit, however, no company will be able to help her unless new sod in installed in the bare spots.

I signed a lawn service contract with this company in January. They sprayed my lawn twice between January and March and continued to send me bills. Whenever I called to ask them to address some weeds in my lawn, they informed me that the contract I signed was only to cover certain types of weeds and that I needed to pay them more to spray my lawn. This was never explained to me by the salesperson who sold me the service. I declined to have them come back. Then in June, after not receiving any service since March, I received a bill for $68. I was surprised to see the bill as they hadn't performed any services and I had paid my account in full in May. When I called to complain, the "billing" specialist immediately told me that I was in default on my contract and that I owed the company more money, even though they hadn't performed any service. She then threatened to ruin my credit if I didn't pay the bill. I then sent a written letter to the company indicating that I was cancelling my contract and I disputed the bill. The, a few days after that, I received another letter from the Company now alleging that I now owed them $102 with a nasty gram again threatening to place me in collections. This is/was a very bad experience. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

Thank you for the report. The customer signed with Trad's in January 31, 2012 and cancelled June 20, 2012. At the time Mr. Huphries started with us, his lawn was in poor condition and he had active turf insects. We treated his lawn five times before we were forced to place his account on hold due to lack of payment. We have one call on file from Mr. Humpries, 2/29/12, for weeds and the lawn was treated the next day, 3/1/12. Our agreements are for braodleaf weeds only and this is industry standard. We are one of the few companies that will treat crabgrass or sedge, but we do this as part of a separate agreement and there is a charge for this. Our agreement is very clear about this. When the customer cancelled his service, his account was in arrears in the amount of $68.00. As per his agreement, he can cancel at any time with 30 day written notice and payment of all services received. Based on this, we charged the customer one additional monthly charge of $34.00. This left his total due at $102.00 to pay for the applications we made. Our office has attempted to explain this to the customer.

I was really impressed with the evaluation from Trads initially. The person they sent out was very thorough and I really believed they would do a great job. Unfortunately, a year later my yard is full of weeds on one side and I'm not sure they are even treating that area. I mean FULL of weeds. A year is plenty long to get a weed problem under control, and we didn't have that many to start out with. One side of my yard is full of dollarweed, the sedge grass I understand any treatment company would have trouble with but I shouldn't have dollarweed.

Trad's will gladly treat weed throughout the year, but we have not received service calls to treat. I will put in a series of service orders for dollar weed treatment and this should take care of the problem. Trad's does treat sedge as an "add on" service. The member's have not signed for this service so I will send someone out to evaluate the sedge they have, and if they have treatable sedge will have the program information left.

Even after several reminders, technicians often failed to call ahead so that I could unlock the gate to give them access to the backyard. So they would treat the front yard and front of the house and I would have to call them back to do the back yard and back of the house. They also failed to provide the last lawn treatment that I had paid for. I tired of this and cancelled their service prior to the start of the next contract year. After the cancellation they came out and treated the lawn and sent me a bill. When I called and explained the situation, they agreed that I didn't owe them anything and to ignore the bill. Over a month later they sent another bill. At that point I realized I was dealing with a bunch of bumbling incompetents, so I gave up/in and paid them.

Thank you for your notice and please know we have researched the member's service history. We found one mention of a service call where the front (10/18/09) and the back (10/22/09) were done separately. There is one note dated 03/03/10 regarding the technicians not calling in advance and this issue seems to have been a one time issue that was resolved. We have no other record of call backs for the back yard or notices a call in advance was not received. The member started service for Lawn pest control and Quarterly Indoor Pest Control on 08/10/2009. At that time, per his Service agreement, the renewal date was set as August 1 of each year. The member's dispute seems to be with the Lawn Service. We guarantee six routine lawn treatments per service year and during the period 08/10/09- 07/31/10, ten treatments were applied, six of which were routinely scheduled. All guaranteed treatments were applied. The member cancelled his agreement 08/30/10, one month after the renewal. By this time, one routine Lawn treatment and one Quarterly Pest Control treament was completed. We charged him for the one Lawn treatment. The member called the office and a message was returned 09/13/10 explaining the charge. Our records show his balance has not been paid, however, we are glad to know he does intend on paying his balance.

Two managers checked this customer's lawn today. We have previously explained to the customer the required time for herbicide to take effect. The dollar weeds were treated 08/24/10 and as of today, are yellowing and starting to decline. Because we have spot treated weeds on a monthly basis, there are few broadleaf weeds in the lawn, except for the dollar weeds, which are declining. The member also has torpedo grass and bermuda grass, and there is no chemical control for these weeds. We are happy to treat weeds monthly, and have done so. We are not using roundup type products on the lawn; we use products that only work on weeds and not the grass the weeds are growing in. These products do not kill weeds overnight and require intervals of four weeks, on average. Dollar weeds grow on long roots, and in this customer's situation, originate in a neighbor's lawn. We have contacted the member to discuss this.

I hired national company to manage fertilization and weed control for my yard in Orange Park. I paid up front for 6 treatments per year. I used them for 3 months, and my yard looked okay. Although most of this time was winter and my grass was dormant. I deployed overseas with the Navy for 8 months. When I returned, I found that I had the worst appearing yard in the neighborhood. Weeds were everywhere. Much of the yard was damaged by insects or disease. My wife managed the watering properly, so I know that was not the issue. I fired the big company and hired Trad's based on a friend's recommendation. Trad's had to re-sod several areas of the lawn. In just a few months they turned my yard around. Every since then we have had very little in the way of weeds. My grass is thick and healthy. Even after the harsh winter we did not lose and area of turf. I don't think the national company was actually treating my yard with chemicals. I've heard of a scam where the chemical company worker will spray your yard with water and not use the chemicals he has been allotted. He will then use these chemicals on someone else's yard he has agreed to treat under the table. I feel like I was a victim of this scam. Here is the kicker: Trad's is less expensive.

The service started off great. Since I have a fenced back yard, they call the day before so I can unlock the gate. In the last 6 months, they either didnt call or would not come on the day they said they would. And the quality of the work has took a turn for the worse. It never seemed to be the same person servicing my yard. So now I have a yard full of weeds and dead spots.

There is only one instance when the technician was not initially able to access the back yard. This was in response to a service call placed 9/9/09. The Trad's technician left a message he would be out and the gate was locked upon arrival. The office left messages and was able to reschedule the service call for 10/5/09 when the back was completed. There is no other instance of the back and front being treated on seperate occasions. He may be referring to weeds that are not controllable such as torpedo grass and bahia grass, both present in his lawn. We are very clear we cannot control certain weeds as there is no chemical control available. This is the same for all companies. The same technicians treated the lawn from 4/08 through 4/09. We assigned a new tech to the route 5/09 and he remained on the route until service was suspended. On two occasions a manager checked the lawn. Managers routinely pull calls to check accounts as part of our quality control. The cost per month was $28.00. Of course we would like to have the opportunity to continue servicing this account. Unfortunatly, he has some weeds that are not controllable. Short of removal, there is nothing any company can do to control these weeds.
