The service person (James) was efficient in finding the solution to the bathroom receptacle problem. Regarding the under the sink outlet (in the kitchen) James provided us with some sound alternatives and made the repair in reasonable time. With the Angie's coupon the price was decent.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting on bathroom receptacle, cause determined to be a result of a GFI switch that was tripped outside the residence. Additionally, re-configured wiring under kitchen sink, put electrical box back into the wall.

We have found Angie’s List subscribers to be above average when it comes to taking the time to post honest reviews. We have evaluation forms that we mail to customers & sometimes we get them back. If there is a problem with what we read, we investigate & where necessary, take corrective actions to make sure we satisfy our customers. Problems with GFCi’s are one of our most frequent requests for service. However, they are life savers & if you do not have them in your bathroom, kitchen, garage or any outlets close to water you are exposing your family to unnecessary danger. GFCi’s (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters) are the outlets with the test & reset buttons on them. They are designed to trip at the first sign of an electrical imbalance, a sign of danger. Unlike a circuit breaker of fuse, a GFCi can react in a little as 1/13th of a second. That is extremely fast & can safe your live. If you have no GFCi’s in your home contact us because they are extremely important. If you do not see a push to test or reset button in the aforementioned areas it does not mean you do not have any. Electricians sometimes install one GFCi & feed other outlets, in the appropriate areas from the GFCi. This is what we call a load side connection to those regular looking outlets. However, because they are being fed by the GFCi the GFCi will still stop the electricity to those outlets to protect you at the first sign of danger. Why do we receive many service requests? First, there are millions out there and usually customers do not know about them, how to reset them or why certain outlets are not working. Also, some are defective & need to be replaced. Additionally, you could be doing something that makes them trip & you are not aware of the danger. Before we dispatch a crew for GFCi issues we walk you through a series of steps, which can be found on the front page, in a video, of our web site. If our telephone support does not fix the problem we dispatch a crew to find & fix the problem.

I reported an irregularity in electrical delivery to my AC condensor upon the recommendation of my AC maintenance provider. They responded as promised and called as they were enroute. Upon thorough examination, with meters, and visual observation, they showed me the safety of my equipment and wrote a report verifying the measurement of their meters on the equipment. They also gave me a reasonable quote for a future installation of a separate electrical circuit for my garage work area. Although the two electricians were thorough and professional, they were able to complete their work within a half hour and charge me only for the initial service call. I will call them back at a future date to install the circuit in my garage.
Description of Work: Examined my electrical system for irregularities based upon a report from my AC maintenance service provider.

They sent a team of two men, who were on time and professional. The work involved going into the crawl space under the house, which has been known to bother some service providers, but they didn't even blink. They also knew, which we did not, that a special kind of hardwiring was required for dishwashers. I appreciate not only the expert work but also the expert knowledge. The completion time was about four hours.
Description of Work: American adding wiring to our kitchen so that we can install a dishwasher and also upgraded our kitchen circuit breakers so that running multiple appliances at one time would not make the power go out.

Some older homes do not have enough circuits to meet today's demand. Also, kitchen appliances, per electric code, are supposed to be on their own dedicated circuit. If running multiple appliances causes your breakers to trip, you need more circuits to handle the load. Thank you for trusting us.

We thank you for the kind comments. Many of our electricians receive excellent comments from our customers & it means something to them personally, as well as the company. On occasion, customers will call asking for the same electrician we sent on the last job. We try to accommodate but are not always successful, based on the customers timing & that electrician’s availability. When we state that we will send someone just as good, some customers are OK with that, others will wait for their request. In the case where we send an alternate electrician, we often receive a phone call or an evaluation form that says, the alternate was as good as the requested electrician. When we dispatch, we match the customer request to the electrician’s expertise. We do this for both commercial & residential dispatches. This ensures that the jobs are being done correctly & in a timely manner. Our on-going training, keeps everyone up to speed in their area of specialization & keeps customers satisfied.

When they installed the new box, they did not put my oven on a different circuit. Now whenever I use the TV and the oven at the same time, my breaker will blow. Also if my microwave and outside light are on at the same time, my breaker will blow. I called them a couple times to come out, and they said that I would have to pay them, but I paid $1800 for the box, and they wouldn't come to make sure there wasn't a problem. When I called them, they told me that they don't make mistake. I told them that before the new box, the oven was on a different breaker, and he said I was wrong. They didn't have good customer service. They put way to much into one breaker. I was not happy with them at all.

You will be contacted by us to get to the bottom of the issues you have noted above. I do not know the facts so I really cannot comment. However, I am concerned that this work was done in August of 2010 & this report was posted March of 2011. We are very responsive & customer service & satisfaction is extremely important to us. The last time we investigated a negative report the customer did not post their name so we could not investigate. However, Angie's List did contact the person that wrote the report for us & let us know that they had made a mistake & we were not the company that did the work. In our database we could not find a description that matched that customer’s issues. I am not sure after we post this, if we will be able to update other readers but we will try. Sincerely, American Electrical Contracting, Customer Service. Update: Unfortunately our space is limited so we cannot go into detail. Additionally, readers will lose interest, so the quicker we can get to the point the better for all. Here are our comments. To address my personal concern as to why the negative review was posted in March of 2011 & the work was done in August of 2010. I discovered the work was actually done in May of 2009. There is no way we move that slowly and stay in business, on a one day job. Our mode of operation is to work quickly & correctly, collect payment & satisfy our customers. So, what is a panel upgrade? Briefly, a panel upgrade replaces an old electrical panel with a new one, complete with new circuit breakers. No rewiring of existing circuits takes place. Why do people get panel upgrades? A variety of reasons, their panel is too small & new circuits cannot be added; They need more power / service upgrade; They have old fashioned fuses, not circuit breakers; Their panel is defective, like FPE (Federal Pacific Electric) panels, which were recalled years ago because their breakers do not trip and can cause fires. If you own an FPE panel you should get it changed. When a licensed electrical contractor does a panel upgrade they file a permit and an inspection, by The City Building Inspector takes place at the end of the job. If your panel upgrade was not inspected, either it was done by an unlicensed electrician or your electrician did not file the job. Either way that is a violation. This job was inspected by The City Building Inspector and passed, certifying that this was done properly. If we work at your home & notice an unsafe condition, we will point it out to you. For example, if you did not have a dedicated circuit for your microwave before a panel upgrade, as previously noted, no rewiring of existing circuits takes place with a panel upgrade. However, you are advised that a dedicated circuit is necessary. It is up to the property owner to authorize the work after an agreed upon price. If an unsafe condition is critical & you choose not to take corrective action, we will note it on our job ticket. Or in the case of an inspected job, the Building Inspector will note it on the paperwork. Customers typically make appointments for us to come back at a later date to keep their family safe. However, we never talk people into anything. What we do is no different than the mechanic that told you your brake pads were worn, as he rotated your tires. We provide a free service, advising you of unsafe conditions because we value human life & want to keep people safe.

Overall experience with this company was excellent from start to finish. In my initial call I described to the receptist my requirements. She the connected me with an estimator and I got an over the phone estimate. A few days later I called back and scheduled a day for the job to be done which was the next week. The installers called on the way to the house a ns were there right on time. The workers were very curtious and completed the work in a timely manor with great professionalism.

Thank you for choosing American Electrical Contracting. We sincerely appreciate people putting their faith & confidence in us. For those that wonder about pricing, we do a quality job for a fair price or as our slogan says, “Wired Right at a Fair Price.” Electrical material, especially wire, is very expensive. That is why so many people risk their lives to steal it. There are times when we can give an accurate estimate over the phone. There are other times where a visit & formal proposal is required. In either case, for residential or commercial estimates there is no charge. We look forward to making you another satisfied customer.

Ray Pasukinski came out and gave me a bid while making several very useful suggestions as I planned the project. These suggestions resulted in significant cost savings and logical integration. He followed up before any other contractors to give me his bid even though he was the last one that I contacted. The pricing was better than most but not all. Given the reputation and the value that Ray brought during the planning phase, it was well worth paying a little extra. This project took several months due to the other trades that had to be involved but American Electrical showed up and completed each phase of their work on time and on budget with the highest level of professionalism I have experienced in working with contractors. Much of this was accomplished by Phillip the project manager. He made sure to inform me about what they were going to work on each day and followed up with letiing me know of the progress that was made each day that I was at the site. He also was flexible with changes I made during the project and informed me of any additional costs or savings when they applied before starting any change order. Phillip also went out of his way to make sure that I understood my wiring system and the breaker box's upon completion of the project. I found all of the employees of American Electrical to be customer focused and proficient at their respective jobs. I have a few followup items to have them look at but nothing at all out of the ordinary. I would absolutely use this company again.
Description of Work: This was an extensive project that included completely rewiring 2,000 square foot home plus the new contruction addition of 2,300 square foot addition. The new construction and old contruction had to be logically integrated whith each other and the junction box had to be moved to the opposite side of the house.

Member: American Elecctrical thanks you very much for the positive review & we are pleased that all went well & more importantly you felt good that your money was well spent. At American Electrical we put a lot of effort into making sure our crews do a great job and exceed customer expectations. We understand that choosing any contractor for any project is a difficult task. As home or business owners that is not your profession, which makes the selection process more difficult. Many people simply choose the contractor with the lowest price & pray that they did not make a mistake. At American Electrical we are competitive but we are not always going to be the lowest price. Hence our slogan, “Wired Right at a Fair Price.” We know we are going to do our best to make sure your experience with us is a good one, irrespective of the many unexpected things that can occur, especially on long term jobs. However, how do you know who we are & what we can do? That is one of the many values of Angie’s List. You can read many reviews & establish your own opinion. As we have previously stated we are not perfect but you will receive our best efforts. Wired Right at a Fair Price, is not just a slogan, it’s the way we do business.

My experience with this company was completely positive. They showed up when they said they would and they completed the job quickly and professionally. They explained what they replaced and took the old smoke detector away and the debris from the new one. But I was even more impressed with my after-experience. Even though the first team explained that they were required to install the new childproof outlets, when I went to use it for the first time, I couldn't plug a blow dryer in the outlet. Another team came out the same day I called and adjusted the outlet to loosen the child proof blocks and showed me how to place the plugs and watched me do it with the blow dryer to make sure it would work. I met them at the door and asked them to be quiet so as not to wake my old, sleeping dog and they were so understanding and awesome. She slept through almost the whole thing and didn't wake until they were almost finished and out the door. I would definitely use them again for any electrical needs I might have in the future.

I was going to install a replacement kitchen fixture myself over the weekend until I disassembled the old one and saw there was no electrical box in the ceiling and was mounted by only two toggle bolts. Erring to the side of caution and not wanting to get into more of a mess, I decided to wait til Monday and have a pro do the job. I called American about 9:30 am on Monday morning and Cathy cheerfully told me that she could have someone out that afternoon (BOY did that surprise me!). She told me she would call between 2 and 3 to let me know they were about 30 minutes away. At 2:15, Cathy called and said they were on the way. Ryan and Jess showed up about 25 minutes later. I showed them the "project" and in no time, they had the fixture installed. Ryan explained that what I had was normal for fluorescent fixtures and yes the toggles are par for course. He installed the fixture in such a way that the prior holes from the toggles (of course made bigger my removal) were not visible and ensured the fixture was stable and mounted properly. While they were there, I had decided to ask them to install the shop light in the garage, but before I could ask, Ryan gladly asked me if there was anything else they could do. Shop light installed pronto. All work done quickly, efficiently and most pleasantly. Ryan also took the opportunity to let me know about their Sycon House Surge Protection. After listening to his "pitch" and asking him several questions about the product, including "would you install this in your home?" (which he patiently and matter of factly answered for me and even said he had it installed in his home) I agreed. I have to say that this was the best service call I have had in recent years. You could not have asked for two more professional technicians who were there to do it right and exceed the customers expectations. Kudos American, as you have sold me on your company!

Overall, the experience went very well. I was pleasently surprised to discover that the problem had been taken care of the same day I called about it. In the tenant's email the next day to notify us that the work was done, she recommended we keep the company's information for future use. She must have been impressed! For people that do their own household repairs, the bill may seem a little steep, but dealing with this "long" distance required a licensed and trustworthy electrician. Thank you Angie's List for the recommendations and thank you American Electrical for your professionalism.
Description of Work: The tenant in our condo called to report she was having intermittent problems with the dryer and an outlet in the living room. We live in Orlando, so calling an unknown company made me very uneasy. Finding American Electrical with all of its high ratings on Angie's List made me feel a little less apprehensive about calling the company. I explained the situation to Daly, and with her help, I felt better. The tenant works nights so I was concerned that finding a mutually convenient time for service might be hard to find. It must not have been a problem, because the next day we received an email from the tenant saying that the electrician had been there the day I called. Apparently the dryer circuit breaker was blown and a wire in the outlet was loose. Simple repairs, but knowing that it was done responsibly and efficiently was very reassuring.

I don?t think it was necessary to even change the smoke detector. They sent out two men which seems unnecessary and I know I had to pay more because of that. I paid $40.00 for a smoke detector I did not need. Rather than try and solve the problem, they just wanted to sell me a whole new system of smoke detectors. I thought they were over priced and I would not call them again.
Description of Work: I had a smoke alarm that was going off and I could not shut off. They came in and replaced the smoke detector. They wanted to replace all the smoke detectors. I later found out that the real reason they were going off is that there was no battery in a smoke detector in a bedroom that wasn’t checked.

It is unfortunate that our crew did not completely follow proper procedure. Replacement of smoke detectors is the right thing do for several reasons: 1. Old smoke detectors are prone to failure & it is more cost effective to replace them once the defective unit has been discovered. 2. If a unit is not old & is not working properly, for any reason, it should also be replaced. This is a life saving device where intermittency is unacceptable. Detailed information can be found on our website: Smoke Detectors on the Residential Fire Safety Institute link. In response to the 2 man crew, everyone should understand that this is our common practice. You do not pay extra for that second person. The crews are dispatched from job to job throughout the day. It is actually more cost effective using two people. On average, it takes less time to complete various jobs, even if others quote a lower hourly rate. Less than 1% of our service calls are a one person dispatch. We thank you for your business & welcome the opportunity to regain your trust. Overall, the service was great. I called on Tuesday and made an appt for Wednesday. Wednesday morning, I got a call from the electrician that would be at my house asking if they could come a little early. They arrived and got right to work. Quickly found the problem with the outlets, and then set to work with the outdoor lights. None of the lights had worked since we purchased the house, so they had to go light by light confirming that the wires and equipment functioned. Turns out, I just had a lot of burned-out bulbs. I think the cost might have been a little high--but the guys did good work, and they did a great job explaining the system to me so I can perform my own maintenance next time. I won't ask them to change light bulbs again, but I'd certainly call for any other electrical problems.

Thank you. Troubleshooting is one of the many services we perform. It requires experience & a methodical approach to electrical problem solving. This one was not difficult, however, some problems can very difficult to find. Like a Doctor, we cannot treat the problem until we find it. Often, treating or fixing the problem is easy, it is finding the cause or causes that can be time consuming.

We thank you for the compliment. We understand that price is often one of the main decision makers for customers. While we are not the lowest price, we try to focus on getting our customers real value for their hard earned dollars. This means the job is done correctly and we are here for you when you need us. We stand behind our work and try to make sure we satisfy all of our customers, Residential & Commercial.

This experience went very poorly- price quoted changed , including the initial charge to service call (from 90$ to 45$) and only lowered when i argued about the initial quote. Overall price dropped when no one could identify what exactly was done. I was told a wire in the ground was found and cut- leaving me with a wire in the ground -where or what to - no one could say. Further, workers left heavy tool boxes on the ground in my garage - which prohibited me from parking my car until i could get someone to move them. Finally, when i continued to dispute the bill, a "trouble shooter" came to tell me what was really done. He charged an additional service charge- and once more at double the first quoted service charge. The 2nd service charge was reduced when i told the trouble shooter to send me a bill. Paying this charge brought me back to the first overcharge price. i am amazed at all the great reviews this company has. Perhaps if i were not a single female things would have gone better. I feel my poor knowledge base resulted in being taken advantage of.

American Electrical Contracting, Inc. “Wired Right At A Fair Price, not just a slogan it’s the way we do business.” This statement represents who we are and what we do. The reason we have many great reviews is because we practice what we state and do great work. We understand that sometimes people can get lost in explanations, because this is not their profession, so we do our best to communicate clearly. Once in a while all communications efforts fail, which can minimize customer satisfaction. If you do not understand the issues or know what to expect, even after the explanations, it leaves a contractor and customer in a difficult position. Often, this lack of understanding leads to a focus on pricing, the driving force behind the actions of many. Sometimes in an effort to save money people have friends or other unqualified individuals work for them, then call a licensed contractor to fix the mess. No problem, trouble shooting is one of the many things we do well. However, when communications, explanations and professionalism miss the mark, most business people recognize a no win situation. Simply we cannot please everyone but we ALWAYS do our best, as evidenced by our ratings here on this prestigious web site.

Went flawlessly. The electricians telephoned before they left, arrived promptly, and took out the damaged underground line and replaced it. They also checked some interior wiring connections that I was worried about. They did this professionally and made sure to cover their shoes when entering my home. They did not charge for this service. They were very courteous and explained everything in layman's terms.
Description of Work: They removed a damaged line to my lamp located in the front yard.

We sincerely appreciate the kind words. There is no shortcut for hard work and we work hard at keeping our knowledge current, building on our experience & presenting ourselves professionally. This kind of feedback is what we work for. For the electrician it is personally uplifting, providing the feeling that cannot be obtained from a check.

They came right on time and explained everything they were doing. Their office staff were also exceptional, including the estimator, scheduler and permit coordinator. A first class organization.
Description of Work: Rewired common lights for 4-unit apartment building to a separate panel and connect meter kit for JAE to install new meter. Required that they climbed through attic in tenant's apartment and then connect a new panel and timer to the outside of the building. They pulled the permit and then contacted me to explain how to have the new service turned on with JEA. Their office staff are just as impressive as their electricians.

I received a call 10 minutes before the two workers got there. They were very professional and forgiving of having to work around my old dog. I showed them each place where I was having trouble, and they diagnosed each - correctly - on the spot. They checked several outlets, replaced one, and hung my ceiling fan and new light fixtures in the bathroom. They were courteous, professional and clean. I would not hesitate to call them for anything.
Description of Work: Panel box checked, two non-working light fixtures, install ceiling fan, install two bathroom light fixtures, troubleshoot light trouble in second bathroom
