I wish I could have read a review of him before I hired him. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I established a contract with bishop furniture and repair on June 27 of 2005. It took 2 years and (4) four months to get my furniture. I had to send two certified letters to the company demanding completion of the work. The owner/representative: Mr. Vinton Campbell demanded that iI made a full payment before the delivery. (The contract, however, says the balance needed to be paid after completion). Mr. Campbell insisted that unless i paid him in full he would not deliver the furniture. I paid because after two years without my furniture I thought he might destroy it and I would never see it again. He added that he did not included the installation in the contract and requested the additional money. I decided to pay additional money for the installation, even though the contract addendum says assembly of all pieces. The contract said $2,000. I paid $2,000, additional $200 for installation. Additional $100 for fabric and re-uphostery of bench (this last item was not agreed initially in the contract). Furniture was delivered on november the 6th. After installation the following problems need to be taken care of: 1-bed lateral parts were not the right size and needed to be extended (pending).Bed reinforcing/support for queen size box spring and pillowtop queen mattress. 2-armoire/ free standing closet doors do not close. The hinge in one of the doors is coming out. The door is having an increasing gap and is not parallel to the edge. None of the doors open or close properly. 2-door handle in one of the doors is broken a is about to fall out. 3- mirror attachments need adjusting. 4-st Detail explanation of results: Bed is currently not assembled. Headboard, side pieces and footboard are all separate. They are standing vertical but were never assembled. Lateral pieces too short and attachments/hardware were not relocated as required. Armoire was incorrectly assembled. Doors incorrectly attached. Crack on the door that was supposed to be repaired is open. Hinges seem to be located incorrectly, or door is aligned incorrectly. They do not close or open. Pieces of hardware such as handles were lost. Can not be replaced because it is an antique. Sloppy assembly of hardware. Screws are sticking out, inside drawers and doors. Bench and seat need to be reattached as part of the contract. They never did. Paid for new fabric that was not used for reupholstery. Never saw the fabric again. Seat need to be re-upholstered. I paid for the new fabric and never received it.
Description of Work: Mr. Vinton came in person and looked carefully, 1-1/2 hours, at what needed to be done before signing the contract. He said he had an extensive experience working in New York with that type of furniture, and that he was able to do the job. He promised a lot of things and afterward I had to be constantly going to his shop to follow up. 80% of the time did not follow up on the time scheduled and agreed. He did not give proper instructions to his employees nor supervised the work properly. He did not want to complete the work and comply with the contract. He coerced me to pay him in advance. He knew the job was incomplete, that there were problems, and that is why he demanded to be paid in advance. The provider was supposed to repair, stain and assemble a 50 year old bedroom set made of Mahogany. The provider did a lousy job in every aspect of it except for applying stain which is apparently the only thing he is capable of doing. Even at that he could not get the correct color and darkness that I was looking for and discussed with him. Repair was supposed to include: repairing cracks in the furniture, fill out puntures in the wood, extend a bed from full to queen size, repair and install armoire, reupholster chair and attach to seat and other things. He gave the job to an incompetent guy in his shop. He did not supervise the job at all. At the time of assembly pieces did not fit together. Bed could never be assembled. The owner Mr. Vinton Campbell threaten me I would never get my furniture unless I paid him in advance. He also threaten me because I took my case to the Better Business Bureau and Broward Consumer Affairs. No one was able to help me. I wanted to send it to small claims but quite frankly I was afraid of this man.
