Pathetic service & awful experience! The following are some of the tactics contractor/owner, Damian Curtis, used to make us miserable once it was proven that his FAULTY WORKMANSHIP CAUSED THE FLOORING DAMAGE: 1. Denied responsibility & adamantly refused to repair unless we paid him. 2. Accused us of damaging the floor by soaking it with water. 3. Insisted we sign his "tricky" hold harmless agreement if we wanted reimbursement for repairs. (Attorney advised us not to sign.) 4. When he finally decided to demo the old flooring, he tried to charge us for it even though Insurance already paid him. 5. Kept using leak & door seal as excuse to cover up his sloppy work when he knew the true cause was lack of a moisture barrier. 6. We had wanted real hardwood but he tricked us into using the laminate he sold--he said it was much better & we believed him-- he had us fooled! 7. He tried to intimidate us by telling us to contact his attorney if we didn't like how he was handling this. He claimed to have been in the business over 20 years & knew what he was doing, then later said only 9 years & twisted everything on us--how unprofessional! Furthemore, he had plenty of opportunities to proof himself but didn't--probably because he knew he couldn't. Initially he seemed kind & helpful, especially when he collected the Insurance check. Yet when issues occurred, he was not as he appeared. He's been trying to improve his image by making accusations about us, turning us against each other, & claiming we want "more & more." All we wanted was for him to fix the problems he created which he never did. We ended up hiring another company to clean up his mess. This untrustworthy contractor DID NOT EXCEED EXPECTATIONS--not even close. He has definitely gone above & beyond complicating matters for us & has exhausted all avenues bullying us. We're not the only ones who couldn't be satisfied--We're just the first to file complaints & reported him. DON'T LET HIM FOOL YOU INTO HIRING HIM!
Description of Work: FRAUDULENT REPAIR SERVICE BY D.L. Curtis Construction. CONTRACTOR COLLECTED INSURANCE PAYMENT BUT DID NOT PERFORM THE JOB PROPERLY & THEN TRIED TO CHARGE US TO REPAIR THE FAULTY WORK HE DID. Our Insurance Company paid the contractor about $24,000 for repairs that included new flooring at the foyer. When the laminate flooring began buckling 4 months later, it was discovered that the contractor did not remove the old wood flooring but instead glued cheap laminate over it. He didn't put a moisture barrier which caused the flooring to rot with mold & mildew. When he checked it he said we had a leak. Insurance, Disaster Response Team, American Leak, Plumber & other Licensed Contractors inspected & found "No Leak on the property & that the DAMAGE WAS DUE TO FLOORING IMPROPERLY INSTALLED." From that moment on, the contractor made matters very difficult for us.
