LOWE'S

Everything -- everything -- about this project was mishandled, from the "designer" who ordered bathroom cabinets too narrow to accommodate the sinks and 1,000 (!) extra square feet of bathroom tile, to the contractor who I assumed (and this is why I hired Lowe's) would send professional carpenters, tile-layers, plumbers, electricians and painters but, instead, sent one handyman who didn't speak English to do everything. (A few times the handyman brought a helper with him and when some of the tile had to be re-laid a subcontractor was called in.) Demolition and construction was supposed to take one month. Instead it took 3.5 months. Deadlines were missed and ignored; deliveries weren't made because of snafus by Lowe's employees; the contract, which was signed AFTER the work had begun because the "designer" was too busy to generate it during the previous two month we had been working together, failed to specify work we had discussed and when I pointed that out I was assured it was no problem but it was and Lowes wound up having to eat $2000 because of her sloppiness; shoddy work had to be redone; phone calls weren't returned; the supervisor in charge of scheduling had major attitude as if she was being inconvenienced; the contractor disappeared for weeks at a time with no communication, and the two bathrooms were finished 2.5 months after the deadline specified in the contract. I happen to believe the only reason the work was finished at all is that a Lowe's manager apparently noticed an email from me on which he was cc'd by an employee and realized what was happening. He assumed ownership of the project, came to my home with the contractor, saw what had happened (including the shoddy quality of the work), apologized on behalf of Lowe's and promised he would personally oversee the project to make sure it was finished. And he did. Otherwise I'm convinced I'd still be waiting. The manager even came and picked up the leftover materials and made sure they were credited to my account. That wasn't his job but he clearly wanted to make things right. He was wonderful and his efforts were sincerely appreciated. The rest of them? I might as well have hired the Three Stooges. This was the single worst buying experience of my life.

I use Lowe's all the time. They are helpful if you have any problems.

I was suppose to get something free with the purchase and it has been two weeks and they have not put the credit on my Lowes card. I have had to call them three times.

Our contractor ordered a Shenandoah vanity cabinet through Lowe's. It was supposed to be delivered within 3-4 weeks of order. When he checked near the due date he was told that it wouldn't be in for another 2 weeks (6 weeks from the original order), and besides, it was 3-4 weeks from when Lowe's put in the order. Turns out they sat on the order for 4-5 days. The contractor pointed out that it was still beyond 3-4 weeks even after the delay. The response was a shrug and "These things happen". We had already returned north with the project unfinished and had to fly down again after the delivery to view and approve the final completion. While the quality of Shenandoah seems very good, this was totally unacceptable from start to finish and I will not use them again for remodeling projects.

On November 22 our refrigerator stopped working, we had purchased it from Lowes so we called them and the next day someone came to look at it. He said he would need to get a new evaporator coil, and came back yesterday, December 2, and fixed it. Today we woke up and the refrigerator was back up at 70 degrees. I bought a new refrigerator at that point, as we hadn't had a refrigerator for 16 days. We purchased the refrigerator 13 months ago, but just found out that it was manufactured in June of 2008 and ndash; it had been sitting in the Lowes for 2 years before we purchased it. If you are going to purchase something from this company make sure you check the manufacturer's dates!

It was well worth it. They were very good and efficient. I could not get over how clean they were! We were very impressed.
