Went great. I wasn't even there. I live in NY and the house is being fixed up for a new tenant. Wasn't even sure I was right about what was causing the leak in a bedroom, but a friend told me it was the ac hose in the unit outside that bedroom. The serviceman showed up when scheduled, checked it out, called me to report on repair and status of unit and gave me a great break on the price. What more could you ask for? Thank you, Angies List.
Description of Work: Confirmed diagnosis of leak in house being caused by stuffed air conditoning hose on unit outside. Replaced the hose, cleaned out pan and checked out unit for any other problems.

I have never had a better experience with a business of any kind, no less an Air Conditioning company. They came to my house to give a free quote at the time that was scheduled. Cory Mullins explained in detail his recommendations for replacement of our compressor and air handler and gave us several options in his quote. We also had quotes from 2 other companies. We decided to go with AMI Air based on their quote, equipment and their professionalism. Toni (in the office) handled the permitting for us and she couldn't have been any nicer. On the day of installation, the team showed up at the designated time and went right to work. They were extremely courteous, worked tirelessly and provided us with a system that cools extremely well. I almost believe they left our home and yard in better condition than when they arrived! At the end of the day, Cory returned before they left to address any additional questions or concerns we had and to inspect the installation. We have recommended them to many of our friends and neighbors and couldn't be anymore satisfied with their work. A+!!!!!

A tech came to our house the following week and after his inspection he regretfully informed us that our compressor is burning out and that the good news is that it is under warranty; however, with labor and parts, it would be approx. $900-$1000- even though it's under warranty. He was very friendly and when I asked if there were any other options he said that replacing it was the only option. We resigned ourselves to having to pay this unexpected cost. However, to be prudent, we decided to pay another company a similar $60 fee to come out for an inspection before spending $1000. In the interim and not even 24hours later, we received a call from AMI wanting to know if they could come out that day to replace the compressor that day. When I did not return the call right away, we immediately received a follow-up call again asking to come out that day to rip us off, I mean replace our perfectly good compressor. We explained that that time frame did not work for us. That same day this other AC person found that our AC was low on refrigerant and he added it. The total cost was $85 and our AC is cooler than ever and working great. After this second guy's diagnosis of low refrigerant, we asked him if there might be anything wrong with the compressor. He re-inspected it and said that the compressor is in good shape and that it's only problem was low refrigerant. We're very hard working, not wealthy, first-time home owners who a $1000 is a significant amount for us. Thank goodness for this other honest company. If you choose AMI despite our review and they want to charge you a lot of money, do yourself a favor and pay an extra $60 or so to get a second opinion!
Description of Work: We found AMI Air Conditioning on Angie's List and saw a "groupon" type deal for AC inspection, cleaning, and tune-up with positive reviews. We have recently bought a house and the original inspection showed the AC was possibly low on refrigerant, though we've gone all summer without any big cooling problems.

Response from AMI Air Conditioning
First and foremost I would like to say we deeply regret that this member was not satisfied with the service we provided. I strongly reject the claims that we intentionally tried to “rip off” this customer. At AMI we run our business with the utmost honesty and integrity and would never take advantage of anybody regardless of there wealth or social status. This may have been a misdiagnosis, and I do deeply apologize for that and have contacted the member directly to express this. I have also expressed my contention to claims that we were trying to “rip him off”. This member purchased a “Big Deal” for a 59.95 Maintenance. When our technician arrived the member indicated that he had recently purchased the house and the home inspector informed him the unit was low on refrigerant. Home inspectors are not trained to diagnose air conditioning systems and only take a temperature difference across the indoor coil to determine if the air conditioning system is cooling properly. Our technician proceeded to diagnose the unit and found the readings he was receiving were indicative of a compressor running at low capacity not a low refrigerant charge. Below are the readings the tech took from the system: Indoor unit model: RHSLHM3017JA Outdoor unit model: 13AJM30A01 Refrigerant: R410a Metering: TXV Refrigerant suction pressure: 175 PSIG Refrigerant liquid pressure: 280 PSIG Subcooling: 9*f Superheat: 24*f Temperature difference @ indoor coil: 10* F Compressor amp draw: 7 amps RLA 12.8 amps To a home owner these reading probably have no meaning, but to a trained professional these readings do not indicate a low refrigerant charge. I offered the member that I would personally come out to check the system so I could know for sure if this was a misdiagnosis on our part or not, he respectfully declined. Not knowing weather this was the case or not I have still had a one on one meeting with the technician to insure we do not misdiagnose problems in the future. If we made a mistake I am truly very sorry for that but I will not take responsibility for or apologize for the erroneous claim that we intentionally tried to “rip off” this member. We have also sent the member a check for $59.95 he paid. Corey Mullins Service Manager I would add; That we work very hard being an honest company that can be trusted. I am sorry if we made a mistake, but I also wish Mr. Herman would have called us if he had a concern. Dennis Mullins

Just moved into the house and one of the a/c unit stopped working. Called AMI and they quickly diagnosed the problem. A millipede had crawled into the space between the contactor points !! The guy blew out the space and checked the system to make sure it was working and only charged me the visit fee. He could have tried to make it more than it was but didn't. I'm very impressed with their quick diagnosis and honesty. Would definitely use again.

My a/c stopped working and when I checked it, I saw a puddle of water under the unit. I called AMI Air Conditioning after I got the number from Angie's List and although they had nobody available the same day, they had somebody available the following day, July 11th. Technician, Adam, came out and immediately saw what the problem was, but he checked my entire system to see if I had any other negative issues. Adam used a compressor to blow out my lines getting rid of all the yuk that was trapped in my system. He advised me on what I could do in the future to attempt to prevent these clog situations and was very helpful and informative. At my request he gave me info on a special "made to fit" air filter for my a/c system. He did not try to "sell" me, he simply answered my questions. My system has a unique size air filter that I cannot find ready made at Home Depot or Lowe's. He ordered the filters for me and said he would try to get them mailed to my home, but if not, I could pick them up at his office. Overall my experience was very, very positive and I will not hesitate to call AMI Air Conditioning again if I have issues.

Perfect from all aspects. They were on-time, did a beautiful job, were very respectful of my home and cleaned up everything; even had the supervisor come and inspect everything before they left.
Description of Work: Very thorough home estimate, and worked with me to look at numerous options. Scheduling was easy, they handled EVERYTHING (and my condo is incredibly demanding with their requirements) including the permit for the city, mailing in the paperwork for my rebate, and even scheduling my post-installation inspection. I purchased a 2 ton, 2-stage FPL water cooling HVAC and it's working beautifully.

When the 16 year old air conditioning unit in our apartment began to falter, we decided to replace it with a new unit. We asked for bids from 3 top rated (by Angie's) installers in the area, who all came promptly to inspect the site (fourth floor in a five story building), and left their bids, for 3 different air-conditioning brands. My wife and I studied them over the weekend, and made our decision. One contractor was eliminated because they are very far away leading us to wonder about service call promptness, but also because of hidden charges in their bid- their charge for pulling city permits included what amounted to $85 for costs. A detail, but irritating no less- just spell it out! We finally chose a new Carrier offered by AMI Air Conditioning of Fort Lauderdale, even though it was a slightly more expensive bid (by 7% or so.) Our exisitng unit was also a Carrier, 16 years old, so that was a good testimony to the brand, and replacing the unit with a current model minimized the risk of surprises during the installation process. AMI got our business due to several other factors. They were the only company that decided to rent a crane to put the unit up on the roof (the other companies would have man-handled the unit up a ladder, around a high-pressure sprinkler pipe and through a hatch onto the roof.) The office seemed to co-ordinate very well with their people on street, and they were unfailingly polite and cooperative with us. AMI came exactly on schedule to install the unit, left it running and the apartment immaculate. The appointment with the city inspector (notoriously picky) also went off without a hitch. The city inspector even commented on the quality of the installation. We're very happy with the whole experience.

I wish I could give A.M.I. a higher rating than A. I have been in South Florida for 35 years and have had all ranges of experience with contractors, from very bad to adequate. A.M.I Air Conditioning, A family owned business, has amazed me. I have never had a better experience with a business of any kind, no less an Air Conditioning company. They came to my house to give a free quote at the time that was scheduled. Cory Mullins, the owners son and a certified Carrier trained tech., spent the time to go over in detail the replacing of my existing 4 ton unit with a new 16 seer Carrier unit. The new 410A units come pre-charged and I was concerned about how he would pull a vacuum on the pre-charged unit. He went through all the details of how they do the installation to my satisfaction. He quoted me the best price and most complete job of the five contractors I had quotes from. He scheduled the installation for 2 days later. I called the A.M.I. office with some questions on the unit I was buying. Toni Mullins e-mailed me the AHRI spec sheets within an hour. The installation team arrived on time on the day they were scheduled with all the materials and the Pompano Beach permits. They started work immediately in a very competent and professional manner. They were very polite and cheerful even though I was hanging around and asking questions. Cory showed up on the job in the afternoon to make sure everything was going smoothly, it was, and to lend a hand. The team replaced the plywood top of the platform, caulked and sealed it. They replaced the plenum and heater, taped and sealed it. Replaced and rerouted some of the copper lines and installed UV resistant insulation. Installed some new PVC drain lines with a clean out T and plug. Installed an electronic overflow sensor. Installed new High and Low voltage lines to the the inside evaporator and outside condenser. They mounted the exterior condenser on raised legs and installed more hurricane straps than the code required. They pulled a vacuume on the system for several hours while the worked ( A very good thing to do!) They tested the unit while they cleaned up the work space and took the old unit away. The workspace was as clean as when they started. The unit tested good and cooled the house right a way. I paid them and signed the bill. They started the job at 8:30 AM and left my driveway at 4:30PM just as the proposal said they would. Toni had included instructions for what to do when the inspector came and scheduled a date with the town for the building inspector to come out. She called me back with the exact time for the inspection. The inspector was impressed with the installation and complimented the neatness and completeness of the job. He signed off on the final inspection with no problems. I recieved the warranty information from Toni and a very nice customer appreciation gift for my business. I had a totally enjoyable experience with A.M.I. and would state that anybody looking for A.C. work should look no further than A.M.I.

I had another company Aloha Air check the work, they didn't even clean the 2nd air conditioner it was full of leaves and a line going to the 2nd air unit was frayed and that was just another opportunity for the repair person to comment well it doesn't matter anyways since these units are so old and you need new ones. he mentioned me purchasing new units at least 10 times didn't want to do the repairs only wanted to upsell
Description of Work: I needed a new compressor for an 8 yr old central air unit, they originally came out to do a cleaning and inspection and since I have two central air units I agreed. They quoted a high price of 1500.00 and since my other units air handler was leaking I said yes if the price was all inclusive, the repair person called the office and they agreed or else I said I would need to get more estimates. they installed the new air compressor and the repair person wanted an additional $511 to clean the coils and he kept making references to me buying a new unit even telling me my units were older than they were. It's a new home I bought new construction. he told me to just haul my Shop Vac up a ladder every couple of days remove the water in the pan, to save a few bucks.

Response from AMI Air Conditioning
We believe this review is unjustified and is a misrepresentation of the facts. I would like to take this opportunity state our side of this misunderstanding. On April 15. 2013 this member contacted our company in need of service on one system that was not cooling and a maintenance on her other system. We responded on the same day and our technician found the first unit had a defective compressor in need of replacement. We advised her the system uses R22 refrigerant which is being phased out and becoming increasingly more expensive as a result. Being her system is 8 years old we suggested she may want to replace it instead of spending $1500.00 on a system which is becoming obsolete, she declined and we agreed on $1500.00 for the repair. The second system she requested maintenance for was found to be leaking water. Our technician cleared the drain line and the condensate pan the best he could with out removing the coil. He advised the member if the leaking continued we would need to pull the coil and pan out of the system to clean. On April 17 we returned to install the new compressor and all went well. The member informed the technician the other system was still leaking water and he inspected the system again. He informed the member the coil and pan would need to be pulled out to clean and quoted her a price. The member displayed no signs of dissatisfaction and paid in full for the work performed that day. On April 18 we arrived in the office in the morning to find a message that was left by the member on our answering machine stating that we are ripping her off and she left us a negative review on Angies List and furthermore threatening to trash our company to her “700,000” twitter followers. This caught us off guard as we always treat our customers fairly and hold them in the highest regard. I called the member and left a message for her to call us back so we could Iron out this misunderstanding. She called back and hung up on us several times so we were unable to come to an agreement. At no time was it implied or promised to the member the coil cleaning for the second system was included in the price for the compressor repair for the first system. At AMI our customers are #1 and when there is a dispute we always error in favor of the customer weather we feel we are at fault or not. We regret the fact that this member is not 100% satisfied but we can not work out a rational solution when the customer will not communicate with us. Dennis Mullins President

Our existing air conditioner was 17 years old, so when the compressor died it was time to replace the whole unit rather than repair it. We got several quotes. Some were lower for a single-stage system, but AMI's price was good for a 2-stage system. A 2-stage system operates at a lower capacity most of the time, using much less electricity, and only operates at its full capacity when there is peak heat load, a relatively small percentage of the time. Using figures that AMI provided, it appeared to us that this unit would return the extra initial cost, in the form of lower electric bills, in about three years. (Only time will tell us the actual benefit.) We went with AMI based on Angie's List recommendations, price, and their apparent professionalism in our dealings with them on the phone. Unfortunately, we had to wait three days without a working air conditioner before they could install the replacement unit--thankfully this wasn't unbearable because it was in December. They told us the delay was because of having to get a permit from the city. But when the time came to install the unit, the permit hadn't been issued yet and they installed it anyway because there was no doubt that the permit would be issued. I think the real reason for the delay had more to to with their crew scheduling. On the appointed day, the crew showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and were done by early afternoon. Their work was very neat and professional looking. They did no damage to our house and cleaned up after themselves completely. Then they followed up to make sure everything was working properly and to coordinate the inspection from the city building department (which the unit passed with no problems). Throughout the process, from first phone call to completion, AMI was very responsive to all of our concerns, and its personnel seemed eager to do everything they possibly could to make sure we were competely satisfied. I think they succeeded.

I am not sure how large an operation AMI is, but they come across as if you are dealing with a family company. Everyone is friendly, helpful, professional and competent. Dan, our installer, was meticulously thorough and clean; you couldn't find one bit of dirt or debris after he finished his install. Adam, our technician, is knowledgeable and thorough. He did not push a new system but rather explained our options so we could chose to repair or replace. Toni, in the office, was extremely helpful and pleasant. AMI is a company that makes promises, follows through, and then follows up. Highly recommended!

We just bought a house with two very old AC units (installed in the late 80s). We went with AMI to replace both because of the feedback on Angie's List. I am very glad we did. These guys were absolutely a pleasure to deal with. They communicated with us every step of the way. When issues came up, they offered options and solutions. They did not try to sell us anything extra and there were no hidden charges. They put carpets down on every surface of the house they had to walk into and when they were done they made sure the floors and walls were cleaned. A supervisor came onsite both days to oversee the work and you could tell this is a company that expects excellence from its employees. I feel very confident that the work was done right the first time and that we won't be calling for repairs for a very long time. I will recommend this company to everyone I can because they've earned it.

Our old air conditioning system seemed to work and cool our apartment, but we weren't sure if it was effectively reducing the humidity. We had a mold problem in our apartment while we were away (we are in Florida only seasonally) and there was a leak from the upstairs unit. Our concern was that the air conditioning system was not working at full capacity, but we weren't sure. I called Toni at AMI Air Conditioning after carefully scouring all posts on Angie's List and asking our building manager for recommendations of reliable air conditioning services. Immediately, Toni scheduled Adam to come the next day to a**** the situation. He arrived exactly at the appointed time. In a most professional manner he checked out the system and concluded that a renovation we had done a few years before had clogged up the system with construction dust, impeding its efficiency. He said the unit needed major cleaning that would have to be done at their facility and the cost would be around $800+ for removal, cleaning and re-installation. At no time did he press us to get a new unit, even though ours was already about 15 years old. There was no pressure to go forward with the cleaning either. Adam was polite and friendly and inspired confidence. The next day, after thinking it over, we decided to install a new unit instead of going through the cleaning process. We wanted to have peace of mind. Again, I called Toni and she graciously arranged for all the proper permit paperwork and scheduled the installation. Dan was the installer (he was briefly accompanied by Adam) and did a most professional job. Like Adam, he was friendly and inspired confidence with his demeanor. After the installation Toni arranged for inspection by the town of Surfside. The town inspector was impressed with the work. In all my dealings with these types of businesses (and we have owned four condos and four homes) I have never encountered such excellent, on time, on budget performance--all done with a smile. We couldn't be more satisfied!

From the start, AMI was responsive and professional. They answered my call on a Saturday and scheduled a visit for an estimate the following week. The representative was on-time. He put on booties so as not to track dirt in the house. He spent about a half hour checking out my system and took about 15 minutes to prepare an estimate. The estimate beat the next lowest estimate for an identical system by $500. The installers came about 15 minutes early and promptly laid down mats from the front door to the A/C unit. The installation took about 6 hours. The installers were courteous, friendly and professional. I would definitely use them again.

AMI Air Conditioning is a role model for what a contractor company should be. Being in South Florida where it seems impossible to find a company to do at the very least mediocre work, AMI truly exceeded my expectations for professionalism, workmanship, attention to detail and customer service. The company came out to inspect our broken residential A/C unit. They were able to get it going at least for another day until the installation crew came out to install a brand new unit. The quote and financing process was smooth, at all times they kept me informed, and the day of the installation, the crew came out early morning and basically spent a full day ensuring everything was made to code, clean run of pipes, electrical, etc. Toward the end of the day, the son of the owner came out to my property to check everything. Very professional gentlemen and made us feel like they really care about the products and services to please the customer. All in all, I'm glad I used Angie's List to pick them due to their previous great reviews and the fact that they mostly earn "A"s from customers. Special congrats to Adam, Dan, Robby, Toni and Corey. Keep us the great work and be proud to work for such amazing company...you will have many loyal customers like me! Thank you.
Description of Work: They came out to inspect our broken 11 year-old AC unit. Problem was a leaky evaporator coil which was not worth investing in the repair. Decision made to replace with a 16 SEER 3.5 ton Carrier Comfort unit. In the meantime, they filled enough R-22 gas in my old unit to keep us cool until the new unit was installed the next day. They also installed a UV light kit in the new unit.

From getting the quote to having the city inspector approve the installation, everything was handled in an extremely professional and conscientious manner. Each person we came in contact with at AMI had a a strong customer-focused orientation. The work was done on the day promised. It was done quickly and with a complete clean up of the old equipment. The installers did not leave until one of the owner's family arrived to double check the work. Can't say enough good things about this company!!
