When they came out to work on appliances they would always come up with something for why the appliance could not be fixed. They were here at least 10 times to fix our dishwasher. They were going to replace another part until I read online about the problems with this typ of dishwasher. Once I asked about a buy out for the dishwasher they offered me $300.00. Ended up buying a new diswhasher. After that they dropped us from their service because they said they weren't making any money coming to our house.
Description of Work: Put in 2 A/C units and we had a yearly service plan ($600/yr) with them for our appliances for 12 years.

Don't use ECM if you expect your warranty to limit your financial exposure or involvement in the day-to-day with your tenants.
Description of Work: Our landlord has a comprehensive mechanical warranty for the house we rent. We have had a major appliance and an A/C unit need repair since we moved in, in the past year. The appliance had a fire, which rendered it entirely useless and could have caused major property damage and/or bodily harm, had we not been home and caught it when we did. The fire was significant enough that the event had to be reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission by the local fire department the night it happened. It was very frightening to our family. One would think that an event like this would automatically call for a replacement of the appliance. But this company put our landlord in the position of having to choose between replacing the one part that caught fire or replacing entire unit, and pay for it. Our landlord chose to replace the part, and we have no control over that. However, I don't think it was fair to "cover" this appliance on the warranty, but then, once it failed spectacularly, and could have burned down the house with it, ECM refused to just replace it without payment. So we live out the rest of this lease wondering if the problem will happen again. In addition, once we called ECM, it took them over a week to come out and inspect, then two more weeks to get the part needed and do the work, once our landlord made the choice. We were left without for over 3 weeks. Although our landlord put this plan in place to allow us to handle almost all emergencies on our own, ECM refuses to deal with us directly, and will only authorize even a service call with our landlord's approval, which makes "hands-off" management of this property impossible for the landlord and frustrating for us as tenants, if they're not available to call it in for us. Recently, one of the A/C units failed, and we lived with it for about two weeks, because it wasn't warm enough to bother us. When we couldn't stand it anymore, we called ECM again, and again they refused to deal with us directly, even though we know the policy #, our landlord has told us he gave my husband the authority to make service calls AND we are the responsible party for paying their service call fee any time they come out, per our lease. We pay the $45 per visit, not the landlord, although they paid for the warranty. The service of the A/C itself was very simple, quick, and I have no problem with the tech for the A/C. I do have a real problem with dealing with their office. They make everything harder than it has to be, and the warranty doesn't seem to cover what one would expect. If I were leasing out my property, I would never choose ECM.

I had to call them several times for quite a few things. My garbage disposal broke and they replaced it with a new one like the contract stated. My oven panel stoped working, they also replaced that with no hassel. I also had plumbing issues several times which were all taken care of. This was a great service to have because all my problems were teaken care of free of charge with just a phone call. The only negative I can say is sometimes they take a few days to come out and fix the problem. But other then that no complaints, they honored our contract. I would have no problem getting a contract with them again.
Description of Work: I had a service contract with them for 2 years that covered all my appliances, plumbing and electrical inside the house.

They do service contract to your appliances. They do a lot and lot of work down here. Their offices are all over the place. The people that they send out are usually reasonably competent but not always. We have an annual contract with them and it covers everything. They just come out to fix it. Their price is fine. Most of the people that they send out are good but sometimes not so much. Then you have to phone them and ask them to send somebody else. They are very convenient.
Description of Work: We used East Coast Mechanical probably about two years ago. They do all the appliances, the plumbing and air conditioning once a year.

I think I described it all in the above box.
Description of Work: The system was installed by two "workers" who finished in record time -- mainly because one of them sat in the truck on his cell phone. The other "forgot" to tell me about the new thermostat operation and didn't adjust the fuse box to accommodate the new system. They left massive chunks of the old air conditioner all over the yard -- screws, bolts, the entire cover -- and my complaint got NO RESULTS! ECM calls itself "The Company That Cares," and it couldn't be more of a misnomer! After two years, I'm done with this dreadful organization!

In the heat of the summer my air conditioner went and they sent this kid out and it was a reasonable price. It was on a Thursday and just before the weekend. It was summer and in south Florida it is a hard condition. They told us that they won’t be able to check it till Monday but they would be able to put in a new air conditioner the next day. He checked it without using any testers and he said it was warm. They said my sand motor was gone and I needed a new one. He said it would cost $400 and he didn’t tell me it would be more than $400. I called for a second opinion and a guy came in and put a $20 part and it was fine. I called them and told them about it and said that maybe you sent one of your new guys which was why he didn’t know but they told me that he was one of their best guys and he was working with them for 6 years. The guy I hired was someone who is not in this business but he is licensed. His job is to take care of about 180 business condos. He is licensed and he knows what he is doing. He came out and put it in. They told me that it could have been that he put the condenser and sand and that might go any minute. My heater and AC has been fine for the last 6 months and that too for $20 part that was put in and I paid $65 for the whole visit. I think this is senior abuse and they were not even apologetic and they told me that if I had gone to a competitive company and got it done for cheaper they would have refunded it but because the guy I hired didn't have a rated service like they do they cant give me a refund. I was very unimpressed and I think it was a scam. I want people to know that you can’t trust these guys and it is not about my $45. If you don’t have a service contract then it would create a problem because when you call them they will tell you that they cant find the parts and you got to read the finer print. The other guy was able to get the part on a Saturday and before I realized it the air conditioner went on. I didn’t know anything about condensers before this. 5/12/2015 AFTER MORE THAN 3 YEARS, THE A/C THEY SAID NEEDED REPLACING IS STILL WORKING FINE!

Avoid this company; they have a real and genuine problem with integrity. When my air conditioning system failed in July 2009, they lied and told me the system wasn’t repairable. Then they lied and told me my old system was too small for my house (2.5 ton unit in a 1526 sq ft home) and I needed a three ton system. (The size I had is in the service range for 1526 sq feet plus my ducts were designed for 2.5 ton.) I chose their most expensive offering, the Trane XL20i because they lied that this system would save a “considerable amount of energy” and lower my power bill. They lied when I ask if the 3 ton system would work with my ducts designed for 2.5 ton. (I later learned that Trane XL20i does not come in 2.5 ton size. They had to convince me I had to have three tons so they could steer me to their high margin machine.) Avoid Trane as well as they have no customer support network. This energy efficient system that was to pay for itself in three to four years has caused a 15% increase in my power bill. Over the 12 year life of this appliance, I will pay for it three times over. The city building mechanical inspector tells me that what ECM wants to do to make the oversize system “work better” (still not work to Trane specifications), is best described as jerry-rigged and a huge code violation. ECM falsified my contract saying they removed a three ton system when they in fact removed a 2.5 ton system. Theythen falsified the building permit by saying it was an “exact change out” when it was not. They also falsified the building permit by showing a lower valuation than what I was charged, cheating the City out if proper fees.
Description of Work: ECM was called to repair my Air Conditioning System when it failed in July 2009. I was expecting a large repair bill but was told a series of lies that lead me into buying a new system that is too large for my home. I was told the system wasn’t repairable. That it was too small for my home. That it would work properly without modifying the ducts. That the new system would save energy.

We would never use them again. We would tell everybody not to go to them for air conditioning work. The product that they sell is excellent. There is no question about it, but their installation is the most awful thing in the entire world. The issue was that they didn’t know how to install it. They were ignorant. They were out seven times for the first five months. It was their fault. They don’t know how to install an air conditioner. They send anybody off the street to install the air conditioner. If it works, they save themselves a bunch of money. If it doesn’t work and they have to keep coming back, then they get somebody a little bit more intelligent one by one. The seventh time, we got it done correctly. They advertise a lot on the television. They advertise that they will be here within 24 hours or 12 hours. They will come to your house within whatever hours they say only if you are a new customer. It’s not in the commercial or in the small print at the bottom of the commercial. It’s an outright lie. If your work is under warranty and if they have to come fix it, then it must be within Monday to Friday, working hours only. They will not even take your phone call if it is warranty work and if it’s after hours. Their responsiveness and punctuality is excellent the first time if you are a brand new customer, but it’s not from then on. Their price was okay. We don’t recommend them since they are really bad.

A SERVICE PERSON CAME TO MY HOME TO FIX MY AIR CONDITIONER WHICH WAS NOT RUNNING. THAT PERSON SAID THAT THE UNIT NEEDED A REPLACEMENT OF THE UNIT . I HAD AND STILL HAVE A SERVICE CONTRACT WITH ECM WHICH THEY DID NOT HONOR BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT THE UNIT WAS RUSTED AND WAS NOT COVERED BY THE SERVICE CONTRACT. I GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A COMPANY CALLED FLAMINGO HEATING AND AIR WHO SAID THAT THE UNIT WAS NOT RUSTED AS STATED BY ECM. I AGAIN TALKED TO ECM WHO STILL INSISTED THAT THEIR EVALUATION WAS CORRECT AND SOMEHOW CONVINCED ME TO PURCHASE A NEW UNIT FROM THEM. THE SALES PRESSURE WAS GREAT AND I STUPIDLY AGREED TO PURCHASE A NEW UNIT. MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS APPROXIMATELY 11 YEARS OLD. I AM A SNOWBIRD AND AS A RESULT MY AIR CONDITIONER IS USED 1/2 THE TIME OF AN AIR CONDITIONER OF A FULL TIME RESIDENT. BOTTOM LINE..... THEY DO NOT HONOR THE REPLACEMENT OF AN AIR CONDITIONER AS STATED IN THEIR CONTRACT. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE WO SENIOR CITIZENS BY NOT TELLING THE TRUTH OF MY TRUE AIR CONDITIONING NEEDS IN ORDER TO SELL A NEW AIR CONDITIONING UNIT.

Response from East Coast Mechanical
Mr. (Member) is a five year ECM Home Services Warranty Contract customer. On January 7, 2011, Mr. (Member) requested service for a problem with his A/C system cooling. An ECM service tech responded to the call and determined that Mr. (Member) had a bad compressor. The sales technician told Mr. (Member) that his compressor could be repaired or replaced, but recommended that he consider upgrading his 11 year old system for purposes of better energy efficient and cost effectiveness. The ECM technician left those recommendations for Mr. (Member) and Mr. (Member)g said he would contact ECM at a later time with his decision. On January 14, 2011, the original technician who went out on the service call went back to Mr. (Member)’s home to discuss an estimate for a new A/C system. This was seven days after the original service call. Mr. (Member) did decided to purchase a new A/C unit and the unit was installed on January 19, 2011. There was a five day time period in between the date Mr. (Member) decided to buy the new system and the day it was installed and with the purchase of a new system, the consumer has a three day period to cancel the entire request. Mr. (Member) didn’t cancel, nor did he communicate any concern in buying the system. With seven days between the original service call and Mr. (Member)’s decision to buy a new system and then an additional five days between the time of purchase and install, there was no pressure by ECM to purchase a system. As an ECM Home Service Contract customer, ECM would have repaired Mr. (Member)’s compressor based on the terms and conditions of the ECM Service Contract. Only an A/C system that suffers complete mechanical failure is replaced at no charge under ECM’s Service Contract. Mr. (Member)’s A/C system did not suffer any type of complete failure and in fact the purchase of the A/C system was an option, not a requirement. Further, Mr. (Member)’s complaint indicates that after the original service call from ECM when the ECM technician recommended the purchase or a new system or repair of the compressor, he went to an outside company for another opinion. It was after the waiting period between service call and purchase of the A/C system and a second opinion from an outside company that Mr. (Member) made a decision to purchase the A/C system. ECM provides a Customer Care Department which had Mr. (Member) not felt comfortable with his purchase or the technician, Mr. (Member) could have contacted to request a second opinion or even shared any concerns for a manager review of his service. None of this was done and there were no complaints made by Mr. (Member) at the time of service, A/C Purchase or A/C installation. Further, this complaint is the first notification that ECM has had regarding Mr. (Member)’s A/C system that was installed more than eight months ago. Since the time of the A/C purchase, Mr. (Member) has also renewed his ECM Home Service Warranty Contract. We believe if this had been an issue for Mr. (Member) at some point in either the A/C service or purchase process or even the Contract purchase process, this would have been something to be discussed and communicated with ECM management. Upon review of the work orders and the information provided by the technician involved in the sale of the system as well as the paperwork at time of service, ECM does not believe there was anything inappropriate in the sale of the A/C system to Mr. (Member) and all processes and procedures followed in the service provided to Mr. (Member) was done based on the terms and conditions of the ECM Home Service Warranty and the provisions for service and replacement of all systems and appliances covered.

They charged me doube because I had two A/C units. They did the tune-up and found a fuse needed be replaced in one of them. They ended up charging me $150 to change a little fuse. They didn't change any of the filters. He told me to buy a filter and then call him and he would change it for a $69 service call.

Overall, the experience was good. We're very pleased. We have had no problems with this company. I was impressed with the sales people that came out; they were knowledgeable. Their prices were the best out of five companies that I had called. I'm happy with their services and I would definitely recommend them to others.

I am not satisfied with them. They have an annual contract fee and then for each service call all you pay is $45. I like the idea of a $45 service call because we don't need this kind of thing very often. Their plan was more economical than the previous company I had. But rhea people came out and looked at things and did not come back in a timely fashion to finish the job. We had a problem with our hot water heater pressure relief valve and it is a commonly used item, I think you can go to Home Depot and get it but it took the service people days and days to come back. I had to make several phone calls to get them back here. I tried to speak to their president who advertises on TV and they said he does not talk to customers so I said what kind of a company is this? When the president says he is not available to talk to a customer that tells me that is a company I don't want to do business with so when my contract runs out I will not renew. I am not satisfied with their performance and will not use them again in the future.

It took them 3 trips, but they finally got the air conditioning system working. Shouldn't have taken three trips, but they sent three different mechanics to perform service, instead of keeping the same mechanic (who already knows the system and the problem) on the job. The first mechanic diagnosed a problem with the air handler. The part they ordered didn't repair the system. I had to call several times before they finally ordered the part. I was living in New York and told them that my neighbor could let them in, but they refused to enter if I wasn't there. So, I had to wait until I was scheduled to be there. When I got there, that part didn't do the trick, so it took the second mechanic to diagnose the problem correctly (the compressor was frozen and needed to be replaced). I had to extend my stay in order for them to complete the repair. They're not very accommodating. Overall, I'll probably be shopping around for next year's contract.

major problem April 2010 parts and labor covered under warranty for an A/C unit less than one year old. It took three days after the cause was determined. They blamed the delay on Trane. April 2011, A/C dead again came and diagnosed the problem $90 service call, 24hrs later they can't say when the part needed will be in so they will not schedule service call yet. When we asked to have the part over-nighted (we would gladly pay) and they said that they can't do that. Meanwhile it is 90 in the shade. April 13, 2011 day four with no A/C. They called and informed us that the additonal service call and labor will be $780! BUT the part is covered under warranty!!! They would not order the part until we gave credit information. They showed absolutley no compassion for us and the extreme heat we had to endure. They finally showed up at 6pm on April 14th, it took the one Tech exactly 2 hours to complete. $780 for two hours of labor???? Do yourself a favor and stay away!!!!

Description of Work: We contracted ECM to install a new Trane A/C unit. They insisted there tech come and see job before starting. Tech came and recommended 2 returns to be placed. The first 2 installations they did not follow tecnicians advise, but on the third and 4th visit they did. After final installation there was a loud fan noise (which still exists) There reply was "thats the way it is and if we come to lower the noise the A/C will not work effectively. This was totally unacceptable. We contacted Trane Corp and have been playing phone tag since end of November 2010. Our problem is still unresolved. We are the 6th in our area getting this poor and unprofessional treatment. We all invested over $4,500 paid in full and all have problems. I will also write a grievance against Trance Corp,Obvously they do not stand behin the product.

I have a service contract with them to do the appliances if something breaks or whatever. They are fine, everything worked out fine. Nothing out standing, nothing bad. Their price, and I did have several estimates, was okay. They have a lot of these service contracts in Florida, you pay a certain amount a year and if anything breaks they come out, it's nice. It's the best 300 dollars I've spent because if the toilet breaks they come. Because I got the AC from them my service contract will be less next year since the AC is covered under warranty.

They also come out every year to do the maintenance on my air conditioner. I have a service contract with them, but I paid them $45 for the repair. The first time they came out, they had to order the parts. They came out again a week later for installation. I wasn’t here when they did the repair, but they left instructions on how to clean the dishwasher. I think they did a good job. They came out the very next day after I had called them. They normally give me a 3-hour timeframe during which time they would come out. I have been using for a few years and I have been happy with them. If I have a problem, I can call them. I will continue to use him in the future.

Very unproffesional, did not honor contract, had horrible attitude when confronted with the problem, will never recommend or use this company again, customer service is non existant. CAC is a better company for the same money.
Description of Work: After contacting ECM for a quote on a home warranty, I went over in detail with them regarding the coverage. I had the CAC contract on my home in Boynton, but I thought I would try ECM for my rental unit in Plantation. What a mistake. After my renter called them several times due to the A/c leaking, ECM told me it was a plumbing problem, and I would have to call a plumber which I did. This incompetent person told me that I would need to have the tile flooring removed from the closed through the hallway into the kitchen, and the plumbing into the new kitchen would need replaced to rectify the leak in the A/C closet. After I had a second opinion by a competent plumber, it was discovered the entire problem was a backup of the drain in the A/C. ECM had not effectively cleared it nor had they diagnosed the true problem which was a crack in the pvc running from the a/c into the wall which was clearly visible, a handyman actually pointed it out to me. This mistake could have cost me thousands of dollars and a renter if I had not had second opinions on thier assessment. A couple of months later, the renter discovered the pans in the units where full of water, so I called to ask them to service the A/c. They did not return the call, so I called again the next day and I was told that this service was not part of the contract. They did it once out of courtesy, but would not return. Which is in conflict with what I was told when I bought the policy. The policy, which was supposed to be the same as CAC, who would have included the service. At any rate, I had to call a A/C company to empty the pans and clear the drains at a cost of $175.00. When I called ECM, I asked them why they had not serviced the units as they promised and was told they don't clear drains. I then e-mailed ECM and expained the probelm, and asked for them to pay the A/C bill or refund my initial warranty fee of $486.00. Their answer to that was that they would be happy to cancel the contract, but they would not refund any money because according to them they had spent too much money on repairs to my unit. Which incidentally has all new appliances and the A/c is only a couple of years old, so the only thing they where called for was clearing the A/C drains. I first spoke to a representative with an attitude, who told me they would cancel the contract but not be refunding any of my money. I asked to speak to the owner and was put on with the sister of the owner, who basically told me that she would speak to her brother to resolve the issue. I am not hopeful that this will end well. The only reason they are still even talking to me is that I did not specifically ask them to cancel the contract in the email. Had I stated in my email that I wanted to cancel, they stated I would have had no choice in the matter, the contract would immediately have been cancelled. I will not be using them again. Had a msg from "Maria" from ECM on my phone stating that she had consulted her brother(Mr. Ramiriez), the owner of the company and they would continue to honor the contract, however, no restitution or refunds would be made. As previously stated, I will be returning to an honorable company after this contract runs out.

We used ECM to when we installed our new AC back in 2005.. They offered a good price at that time and were professional enough. But beware! We called them back needing service. Their website advertised a $45 service call rate which seemed reasonable enough, but when I called to schedule the service they quoted a rate that was DOUBLE. The person on the phone said that the lower rate was for new customers only. No where on their website did that advertised rate show any limitations or exclusions. ECM may very well provide adequate service, but bait and switch sales and advertising have cost them my business. If ECM has exclusions then they need to show that on their website and advertising.
