in an emergency, he arrived in under 40 minutes and told me the terms for his visit when i first called. found a broken pipe in a wall and took actions to prevent recurrence. he also recommended a restoration company that arrived at my home while he was still there (2 men) within 30 minutes of our call. i have been under contract with ecm going on 3 years. they have always arrived promptly within the time frame requested and handle most anything under their contrtact. because ecm was here (so quickly) even though my home was flooded, he identified the cause, stopped the flooding, took proactive measures so this would not happen again, opened up the wall in the bathroom and found the leaking water supply. with his suggested restoration team, the damaged molding was removed, some tiles were removed (rather popped out) and dehumidifiers and fans were placed in 5 locations (15 pieces, i think) and are mitigating any damages as quickly as possible. i would not hesitate to use them again.

They have nice ads. After getting post cards offering a 21 point central air conditioner $49.45 tune up, I called them. They came out and found a problem with a blown fuse. Fixing it is not difficult, just change the $1 fuse. Takes about a minute. Instead the guy said it was not a tune up. As there was a problem, he would have to charge extra for a service and repair call which tripled the bill. Too bad, I have several rentals and needed a good AC company - not them. They still mail me lots of cards offering special discounts. What is that saying about burned once?

Was supposed to come to service an A/C. I stayed home from 2-5 as I was instructed and at 3pm i got a call saying he's running late Can he come at 5:30 I said yes. He didn't come but called at 7:30pm and it was too late. I had to wait until Monday to call to complain and The woman was rude and said I would have to wait again another day for another 4 hours. She was so nasty to e that I felt humiliated. Earlier in the year I had a very expensive A/C installed in another place and the techs were not in the mood to answer my questions about how to use the digital control. I am very unhappy with this company.

The AC broke on Sunday and ECM came out Monday morning. That is where the good service ended. The service tech only diagnoses problems doesn't fix them. The repair would be another call. The same part they replaced last year failed again, but now the labor warranty expired so before they would even order the part, they wanted 50% of the $300 labor cost paid upfront. In my 35 years of home ownership I have never heard of such a thing! They didnt need any money upfront when we purchased the $4,400 ac unit. I was appalled and told that this was their company policy. Their customer service was rude and arrogant. I called and asked to speak to the owner and was told' "he does not speak to customers". When I questioned the quality of the AC unit that they sold me, I was told that "things just aren't made the way they used to be"! What kind of response was that? I called the manufacturer (Rheem) and they confirmed that I could use any AC company that sells and services Rheem I did not have to stay with ECM. I also found out that they were having problems with the particular part that had broke and so the manufacturer was providing a labor rebate for replacement. So ECM was going to take my money and the rebate!!!! What a complete rip off to the customer. I called Davis AC and they had the part ordered and replaced within 24 hours! What I found the most surprising was the local Rheem distributor called me to make sure that my AC problem had been taken care of. Clearly, Rheem cares about their customers and the quality of their product, ECM fails in this regard!
Description of Work: Called the company to service our 2 yr old central AC unit that was not cooling and still under warranty. AC just had preventive maintenance service 2 weeks prior at a cost of $279.

They are an excellent company. I am charged an annual rate of $372, some people may pay a different price. They offer very many services. They come quickly so there is no wait when you call. They are very knowledgable and specialize in many different trades. They work quickly and are very polite. Any time I call they show up same day or next day. I changed from another company to ECM and am very happy with my decision.

They came out and they were here in a timely manner, but their price was way too high. They were here for only 15 minutes. The part was only 30 dollars online and they charged us over 300 dollars. I wouldn’t use them again. That just seemed way too high to me. I don’t remember any problems with the professionalism, but it was several months ago.

I have been very happy with their service. They have done so much better than Service America was years ago. I have used ECM’s warrantee for ten years and have had no problems. Their warrantee doesn’t cover televisions, but they have replaced my hot water heater and a number of garbage disposals as well. Right now, I have a plan where they charge forty five dollars if they come out and fix one thing. Otherwise, you could pay 450.00 and not have to pay anything else. Over the course of this time, some things were great and some things weren't.

If you have a problem, they send somebody out the same day, but the person may not be able to fix the problem. He will come out and look at it and then say I know what the problem is, but I can't fix it. I will have somebody else come out tomorrow. They are quick to respond, but the person that comes out does not always have the capability of fixing what the problem it. We had a problem with a faucet and the guy came out, looked at it, and said it's broke. He asked $400 to replace it. I have a service contract that includes plumbing, so I asked them if they can fix it. They said they can't and I have a special faucet and they will have to give me a compatible one. They will replace it for free if I agree to replace it with a basic faucet. However , to get the compatible one, I will have to pay $400. I said that I will buy a faucet and then he said I will have to pay $90 because it's an installation, not a service call. They do have ways of trying to get more money out of you.

I have a yearly contract with them that covered my refrigerator when it needed repairing. I really like this company my neighbor recommended them to me. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. If they need a part to repair something they usually have that part in by the next day. I have been with them for over 7 years now. I really like how prompt they are I will continue to use them in the future.

I have a contract with ECM. Our air conditioner is out on Sunday. They do not send out repair person on the weekend for emergency service if you have a contract. Two weeks ago I spent $199.00 for a contract that states they have 24/7 emergency service which they do not honor. Please don't use this company. It's a rip off.

Response from East Coast Mechanical
Mr. [member name removed] held an ECM Bronze Level A/C Maintenance Plan. The terms and conditions of the contract plan indicate that "service is provided during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday, 8am to 5pm." The terms also provide that "service will be based upon the level of priority, service demand and the availability of technicians." Mr. [member name removed] contacted ECM on a Sunday at 2pm in the afternoon. Although emergency service is available after business hours at overtime rates, emergency service is only available based on ECM's available technicians which are provided based on demand for service. On Sunday, April 21, 2013, most of the Greater West Palm Beach area was experiencing warmer than expected temperatures and as such ECM's on-call and emergency technicians were overloaded and could not respond immediately to all customers. Mr. [member name removed] was offered to have a technician scheduled for his home first thing on Monday morning and declined the offer. In researching further information from Mr. [member name removed] about his phone conversation, he indicated that the representative he spoke to did not explain the high demand/high call volume to him and that the representative made it seem that service would not be provided to him on an emergency basis because he was a contract holder. ECM regrets that members of our staff may fall short of our expectations to fully respond in clear detail to our customers especially during high pressure times so that they may understand extenuating circumstances that create a situation where we may fall short of their service expectations. Unfortunately, we cannot change the communication Mr. [member name removed] experienced, but we have counseled our representatives accordingly based on this event and we have honored Mr. [member name removed] request for a full refund of his original contract price.

Plumber (?} came back about 8 times to fix running toilet and each time he left the problem reoccurred. The company tried to be responsive, but their worker just couldn't do the job, i.e. basic toilet repair.Their plumbers (?) also do not seem to know which parts are compatible for use in each brand toilet. I ended up paying someone to come in and fix it and it turned out that the handle was sticking which they never realized. ECM refused to reimburse me even though I was under contract and had to stay home 8 times because they couldn't fix the toilet. I HAVE renewed with ECM because their other repair services have been super, and I do find them to be responsive. Their plumbing service has been a mess.

ok to BAD to WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: I had a service contract with this companyfor about 8 years (only because of replacement Guarentee) I had purchased thier replacement policy. The very first time I had a problem with my air conditioning they had to flush the drain and suggested I replace the whole air conditioning unit because it was old, but it worked fine after they were done. For the next seven years they would come out and clean the drain sometimes they would have to do it twice, because the first guy DID NOT DO IT CORRECTLY! But each year they tried to sell me a new airconditioner. In 2012 they said the unit was shot and had to be replaced, I said that they wood need to replace the unit under the REPLACEMENT GUARENTEE, they said the way the contract reads they DID WOULD NOT REPLACE THE UNIT, and it would cost over $4600.(2 Ton unit) to replace, they then would not renew my maintainence policy. I called another company and they got the unit working, by adding freon. This company's maitainance policy is OK for small appliences, but they continuly try to up sell !, but will not cover the air conditioning unit which is how they sell this policy. I WOULD NEVER USE NOR RECOMEND THIS COMPANY for any thing. I did buy a new 3 ton airconditioning unit with a 10 year parts and labor gaurentee for $1800. dollars less than this over priced company. By the way calling management from EMC was as bad as thier air conditioning maintanence policy!

On March 5th we called ECM again ... the new contract was now in force, and asked them again check the unit and perform whatever remediation was needed. First, their service manager, said they (ECM) had only installed the larger unit; I had to remind him more than once that in fact they had installed BOTH units on the same day in 2009; he checked his records and said 'oh yes,' (It appears that since the 'problem' was with the smaller unit he was trying to 'pass' the blame). Anyway, when we called back on March 5th, the service manager said that once they corrected the freon level, we would still need to pay $287 to determine the cause of the leak (because that was not covered under the contract )+ whatever $$ it would cost to repair. I got really angry ... and told them to CANCEL THE CONTRACT IMMEDIATELY. The service manager said he could not do that, he would need to transfer the call. He then transferred the call to someone who could not help me, because she only worked with new contracts - not renewals!! She, however, was helpful ... I asked, and she told me what I needed to do and gave me an e-mail address. I sent ECM a request to cancel our contract immediately. Later the next day, we received a 'phone call that the contract had been cancelled and a refund would be mailed out ... of course they deducted more than $50 for the time the contract was in effect - about 2 weeks, assuming the renewal was made to be effective on February 20th. We then checked ANGIE's List and called one of the companies listed. We did not mention ECM, but we did tell them that someone else thought the freon level in the smaller unit may be low; so that they would pay particular atrtention to the freon levels. The new company came, checked both units, and said the freon level in both units was fine. The problem was a dirty filter that needed to be changed in the smaller unit!!! (Negligence on our part - we tend to forget to change the filter in that unit). The cost of this second company? Less than $120! Was the ECM technician incompetent? Are their technicians paid based on the revenue they can generate? Or, was this an attempt to 'gouge' us? Whatever the reason, this is one company that we will NEVER, EVER, EVER use again.
Description of Work: The smaller of our two air conditioning units was not cooling within the recommended range. We called ECM to check the units because we've had a maintenance contract with the company for the last 10 - 11 years. We had not yet renewed our contract for 2013 (renewal should have been on February 20th, we called them on February 25th, and the technician came on the 26th). ECM told us that because we had not yet renewed the contract, the cost of having the unit evaluated to determine if there was a probolem would be $45 ... we said fine; we would pay that and renew the contract immediately. The technician came on the 26th and said freon was low in the unit, and because we did not have a contract in force on that date,it would cost us $250 to replace the freon + $278 to determine the cause of the freon leak; + the unknows cost of repairing whatever problem he found. We said, leave it ... we will renew the contract immediately and call ECM again after the renewed contract was in force. We put the check in the mail for the renewal immediately and it was 'cashed' by ECM on March 1st.

I had a replacement contract for large appliances with ECM. I had a leak going from my utility room to the garage. I thought it might be the waste water pipe from the washing machine to the outside. The "technician" came as told me I had a washing machine that is know for having a leaky drum. I bought the machine last year. I asked how that could be the cause of the leak because there was no leakage on the floor of the utility room. I explained that I had towels on the floor during the leaking and they were always dry and no water was ever found on the floor of the utility room., which would have been evident had there been a leak in the drum. He insisted that I just didn't see the leak. He then suggested that the company pick up the machine and replace the drum. Having a contract, I assumed the cost would be covered. He said it would cost $200. When I asked why, he stated that drum wasn't covered in my contract. I finally found a plumber who found the leak in a pipe under the wall between my utility room and garage. My cost was $300. I called ECM and asked them if they would have refunded me the cost of repairing a drum that didn't need repair. They declined to answer and I cancelled my contract.

I have mixed emotions. For that routine maintenance, I had called them when it was in-season in Florida and they could not give me any kind of reasonable time to get that service done. I couldn't get an appointment for months and I had to make special arrangements to have someone at the house. I have tried to call the owners on other contract issues before and they are very unapproachable, standoffish and rigid. I'm hedging having to use this provider again because of these contract issues.

On June 12, we got home from work at 5 PM and the temperature was around 82 degrees in the house. We went on Angies list and found East Coast Mechanical (ECM), we called them and the said they would be at our house by 7:15. The repair person arrived before the 7:15 and looked at our unit. The A/C unit was clogged. He cleared it out and gave us several recommendations. We paid the bill of $152.One recommendation was a service contract to cover all appliances, air conditioning unit, water heater, plumbing, outlets, etc for $482/year. We received a quote via email and US Mail which we accepted. We call ECM and paid by debit card over the phone for the first year on June 29th.On July 25th the same thing happened 5:00 85 degrees, so we called ECM since we were under contract (we never received an Offical Contract - only a Contract marked Quote at the top). When we call for service we were told that the they would get someone to our house between 2 and 6 the next day. So with ECM when you are paying for a service they come right away, when you have a contract you need to wait a day. We called another company and they come that night! We cancelled the contract that we had for about a month, they would only issue the credit $395.34, and we still never received a copy of our contract!

I notice many less than favorable reviews listed here for ECM and find it puzzling. I can say that I have used ECM for my a/c needs since moving to Wellington and purchasing a 3000 sq foot home in 2007. I could not be more satisfied with their service. Initially I used ECM to service a 5 ton main unit (12 years old) and a 2 ton master bedroom unit (6 years old). I have had service calls on 4 occasions for reasons such as a broken thermostat as well as a capacitor replacement on main unit. I also purchased the service plan for one year for both units. Each service call was covered 100% for labor and parts. Recently I returned from a trip to find my main a/c was not cycling on. I found that it would keep tripping the circuit breaker. The unit was old and I suspected it would be related to the compressor. After a visit from ECM tech it was determined the compressor was bad. We could have replaced it but for a 12 year old unit, I elected to install a complete Lennox 5 ton unit and air handler. The service crew showed up 2 days later at 10 AM and the job was completed at 7 PM. I have immediately noticed a 50% decrease in my electric bill (just received new bill from FPL representing a month with 2 weeks of new a/c usage). I can imagine the amount of energy the old system was using. This system cools the house quickly, efficiently and quietly. I can barely hear the compressor running. (and my guests are pleased as well, since the main compressor is near the guest suite, now the noise does not keep guests up at night). I highly recommend ECM based on my personal experience.

The overall experience was extremely painful. I paid top dollar for a high-end a/c unit and never received a proper installation. Because the communication wire was never replaced during the installation, ECM came out to diagnose the problem five or six times and never fixed the problem. I was in the navy for 25 years working with electronics and we had a saying, "if you have the time to do the job over, you have the time to do the job right in the first place." Here's a few direct quotes from ECM's "Customer Bill of Rights" My comments are parenthesized#3 You have the right to expect a job well done. 3a. We guarantee that the job shall be performed to code. 3b. We assure you that we will exceed all manufacturer's specifications.#4 You have the right to expect total performance. We guarantee that your new system will perform exactly as we promised.#5. You have the right to expect peace of mind 5b. We guarantee that your new system will perform to your total satisfaction no matter what. ECM advertises as "the company that cares." My experience with ECM is they are the company that cares less.
Description of Work: ECM installed a Trane 20i a/c system in May of 2009. In the months following installation, the system repeatedly malfuntioned while displaying an error code of 126 or 90. Two technicians came out at different times and declared the problem to be with the high voltage, but a third technician on 12/11/09 came out, referred to the error codes from the manufacturer and determined that the problem was a communication error between the air handler and the condensing unit (which it was). This technician noted that the wire between the two units was not replaced during the installation and wrote on the receipt, "Recommend new low voltage wire between the air handler and the condensing unit. Existing wire has several connections (splices) and is less than 18 gauge." I waited for ECM to follow up on the technician's recommendation but they never contacted me. After about a week, I called them to see when the work would be done and they flatly refused to replace the wire. I had a series of similar error codes over 2010 and each time ECM came to check it out they were never able to pinpoint the problem even though I would remind them about the wire. In July of 2012, I had another series of error codes but the technician, again, was not able to pinpoint the problem to a specific part but ordered a low voltage board "because there was some corrosion on the pins." I called ECM a day or two afterwards and asked to speak with someone who could help out. I was connected to Norbert who is the service manager. After I explained the situation and asked that the wire be replaced because the original installation was not up to specifications, Norbert asked me who was going to pay for his technician's time. I responded by saying that I thought it was curious that he would be more concerned about a few hours of his labor that should have been taken care of at the installation instead of customer satisfaction. Norbert replied that "maybe you should take your business elsewhere." Norbert refused service once again and cut ties by telling his secretary to tell me that ECM will no longer do business with you. I tried to resolve through Trane directly with no satisfaction. They were willing to make a recommendation of another company who ulitmately came out and completely changed out the wiring from the condenser, to the air handler, and then to the thermostat (at a cost to me of $452). The work has been completed for over a month and I haven't had any more communication errors with the system.

I did not renew my contract with this company.Their service people were impolite, disagreeable, argumentative, resentful and in one case, refused to do my job and walked out.My complaints usually brought no response but, in one case, I got a phone call saying "We'll look into it." In another case, I received a written apology from a department head.

Since I wanted to be sure their price for a new unit was competitive I called a few other companies. The first one who came said that the unit COULD be fixed and charged $100 to repair it. That was a few weeks ago and the unit has been working perfectly well since then. My wife called ECM and told them what had happened and that we expected them to refund the $100 we had to pay someone else to fix something that was covered by our contract. On Friday my wife received a call to say that ECM have decided to cancel our contract and will be refunding the balance on our premium. Normally I would argue, but having experienced their questionable behavior, I actually don't want to ever do business with them again.
Description of Work: I have had a service contract with this company for many years. We called them about a problem with our air conditioning and they sent a technician who told us that the system had a freon leak and couldn't be repaired and quoted us $3500 for a new unit. He turned our A/C off and left.
