Athletes Movers DC

We were given a moving window from 1-3 o'clock. They called us one time at the end of the window to tell us they would be coming around 4. That was the last time they contacted us. We had to call them every hour to see if they were actually coming. At 7:30 PM, they finally arrived. We waited with our boxes packed and ready to go for over 6 1/2 hours! If they had told us that they were going to be running that late, we could have easily run a few things over to the new apartment and had some things put away and made the day productive. Instead we SAT and WAITED! My daughter had a concert to go to that evening and I had originally planned to fly out of DC that night. I had to pay change fees on my ticket in order to wait for the movers! They did not once call us and when we called them, they were never upfront about how late they were going to be! We told them that they needed to deliver to the new apartment on Sunday since it had gotten so late. They hemmed and hawed a bit but agreed to come back on Sunday morning with the delivery. They did show up promptly on Sunday morning and got the move completed. I understand that things happen but it was completely inexcusable to let us sit there all day long without communicating the problem and offering some solution.

I clearly explained over the phone the number of rooms and quantity of furniture in each room. They provided an estimate of 2 1/2 - 3 hours for a maximum of $285. Lesson learned: always have someone come into your house to provide a real estimate of the time it will take. The movers arrived 30 minutes late. And -- the much bigger problem -- they came with only a 17-foot truck. Once the movers walked into the house they immediately realized the truck was too small. The movers moved the furniture pretty quickly and were careful. But it took 3 separate trips and lasted 10 full hours. Unbelievable. Also, in the two weeks leading up to this move we transferred over numerous loads ourselves (including *all* of our clothes and kitchenware -- I can't imagine how much longer it would've taken if we expected the movers to move that as well). When the move was finally completed: - the movers did not honor the military discount advertised on the company web site - the movers acknowledged that they put a huge gouge in my coffee table (things happen -- I'm not that upset about the scratch, just the lack of response from the company) - the move took 6 hours longer than estimated I have called the company 4 times and not received a single response from them. I will never use this company again, and I recommend against anyone using them. They do not provide honest estimates, they do not honor promises made on their web site (to include supporting the military), and they do not respond to customers once they have your money. Watch out.
