I sent a message to the provider through Angie's list and the owner (Mike) responded in a timely manner. We made an appointment on the spot. He sent 2 of his servicemen to make the repair and they were in and out within an hour or so. They showed up on time and cleaned up after themselves and did a fantastic job overall. Price was reasonable and fair. I know this because a relative is a licensed plumber and he estimated the cost for me and it was accurate.

There was no by pass valve on this old reserve tank so I had to turn off the main water valve to the house in order to stop the water from shooting out of the tank. I sent a message to the provider through Angie's list and Mike (owner) responded to me within the hour, which I was not expecting but very happy about. Timeliness and good communication skills are important factors for me and this provider has both. He expressed sincere concern that I was without water so he came the following morning to disconnect the tank and add the by pass piping. Mike called a half hour before his arrival time to tell me he'd be there in 15 mins and asked if that was ok, which of course it was. He and his assistant were in and out in about an hour (he had originally estimated it could take 2 hours) so I was happy about that too. Mike advised me that my current well pump tank will probably need to be replaced at some point soon (after I told him it was installed in 1991) and he gave me an estimate right on the spot which included labor but I said we need to wait until I can save more money. He and his assistant attempted to remove the heavy, 5.5' tank but it would not fit through door by 2 inches so he said he would saw and remove the tank when he comes back in the near future to replace the well water tank, which I was fine with. He also removed a smaller water softener tank which was inactive and took it to the transfer station for me (the dump). Mike is good, honest business owner, which you can gather just from his demeanor, general disposition and communication skills. You get a very good feeling from him just from talking over the phone.

The problem with the sink hot water faucet had been growing worse over time. The shut off valve for hat water had deteriorated and fragmented so parts of the rubber gasket had plugged the supply line in several places. Mike had to "fish" fragments out of the faucet system which took some time. He was very thorough and soon had the new valve installed. Mike is an excellent source of information with regards to related trades when you have a problem in another area. I recently needed the humidifier on the furnace replaced. I called him. Since he does not do heating and air conditioning he referred me to a local technician who does that work. I was very pleased with the outcome of the work overall. I strongly recommend Mike Barrett for all plumbing needs that may arise. He installed our hot water system and the kitchen sink. I would not hesitate to call him on any of our future plumbing work.

Mike was absolutely great - Professional, gentleman, well-spoken, father, family man, polite, punctual, neat, and friendly. Years ago, I used to work in the trades as a carpenter so I am able to recognize the stand-out-above-the-rest pros. Mike is old school - answers your phone call and texts, shows up when he says on time, works neatly, and does a great job. His prices are extremely fair. He changed out a rusted 14-yr well pressure tank for us. I know his prices are great because I considered doing the job myself and priced out all the replacement parts and components. I would not hesitate to recommend Mike to my family and friends and when I need a licensed plumber again, he is the only one I will call. In fact, I was elbows deep in a kitchen remodel and took the time (free of charge) to help me with some planning questions. You don't need to search any further for an outstanding plumber and an old-fashioned professional.

The toilet work was straightforward. The sink clog seemingly was not complicated. Its drain flowed freely after plunging and addition of chemical cleaner, but then black water came out of the tub drain. A pipe in an access panel was opened and snaking was attempted. After yeoman effort Barrett's plumbers could not break through the blockage and recommended a particular drain cleaning service for its reputation and price. They came promptly and successfully broke through the clog. Barrett returned to reconnect the entry pipes and charged only "for their successes". Their plumbers were timely, courteous, tidy and knew their limits. We're very satisfied both with their work and their very fair pricing and have already asked them to return and install a recycle line on the hot water heater. We can recommend Mike Barrett Plumbing without reservation.

Mike came himself to bid the job and was very helpful in trying to keep us within our budget. Although we were working with tight margins he (as he assured me he would) gave us a very neat install and completed the job in less time than expected. He was always very easy to reach throughout the process and was very willing to listen to my concerns and make sure that we moved forward in an appropriate manner. In the end we will always recommend Mike when we know someone who needs some plumbing work. As he was responsive, professional and got the job done on time and delivered what he said he would and more.

Mike is what you want from a service provider - responsive, professional, accurate, helpful and a pleasure to work with. Skip to the bottom if you just want the results. I had a toilet that would no longer fill. I changed out the fill valve and, voila, nothing. So here ends my DIY. I called him after reading the reviews, Mike called me back the same day and we scheduled a time for him to come two days later (mostly my schedule, not his, and we had another working bathroom). He got right to work and after about 20 minutes deduced that it was a frozen pipe. He drilled a couple holes in the baseboard behind the toilet (can't see them) and tried a hair dryer for another 20 minutes. No luck. He said he'd need to come back, remove the toilet, cut a hole in the wall and possibly move the pipe away from the outside wall of the house. He quoted me $350-500 as he didn't know what would need to be done once he opened up the wall. He was unable to do it then and we rescheduled for the following week. He arrived on time and my mother in law was here to let him in. Within two hours the toilet was removed, wall opened as little as possible, gaping hole discovered (fantastic) which was causing the freezing, hole sealed with foam spray and the sheetrock screwed back in place and toilet reset. Photos taken before and after by Mike and texted to my wife and I. He relayed all the info to my mother in law, who in turn called my wife, who spoke with Mike who in turn called me and then Mike called me. Talk about going through layers of approvals! He did it all with a friendly attitude and walked me through what he had done. Total price $475. It was never above freezing the rest of the week and Mike texted me on Saturday (his day off) to see if the toilet was still working and ensuring his insulation job worked and if my wife was ok with the replaced sheetrock. It did, it had and yes, my wife was happy with his carpentry work of replacing the sheetrock. SUMMARY: Mike was great and we now have a plumber that I trust. The job was done right, with minimal noise, disruption and mess. Price was within his quote, but I can't speak to the competitiveness as I did not get any other quotes. I recommend him and will do so to my friends.

Mike was quick to return my original call. He offered a fair price and scheduled an appointment immediately. He was very prompt, even arriving a few minutes early. He got straight to work and finished the job within an hour. He explained that for one of the loops in my system there was a block, which he guessed it could have been frozen. Unfortunately he couldn't say for sure which loop. We deduced that it was for the zone that runs out to my garage. This zone has its own relay that manages 3 different thermostats. So it was unclear which part of the system had blocked. This mystery concerns me. I wish I could know for sure where and what the problem was. But as Mike pointed out, he managed to clear whatever was blocked (by temporarily increasing the furnace's pressure). At least now I know everything should be clear and working correctly. I'll just have to keep a close eye on things to help determine if my system does in fact require antifreeze. We then cranked up the heat in the zone that used to ring and confirmed the noise no longer occurred. Perhaps there was some air in the system that cleared when he flushed the pipes. Thank goodness because that noise was maddening!

Hired Mike Barrett plumbing to replace a faucet in my guest bathroom as I couldn't do it myself due to access. Mike checked out the job for no charge, told me to buy a faucet and would come at a later date to install. The installation was going quite well until the faucet purchased at the major big box was found to be faulty leaking from inside unable to be repaired. Installer said he would wait in the truck as I go get a new one instead of making a new appointment and me having to take another day vacation. New one was fine, and the rate charged was great considering he waited the extra 30 minutes of so for me to go back to store to get a replacement. Would definitely hire again as the install was quick, courteous, professional, and a great price.

Mike and his team did a great job for us. They installed a hot water heater and dishwasher and replaced a kitchen sink drain for us. Mike was easy to get in touch and fit us into his busy schedule soon after we first spoke. He and his team were polite and knowledgeable. I also appreciated that Mike followed up to make sure we were happy with the work. I highly recommend Mike and his team and will definitely use them for future projects.

Mike Barrett did an outstanding job replacing our furnace that had sprung a leak and saved our Christmas vacation for thousands less than our other quote. We replaced the leaky Burnham boiler with a comparable Peerless boiler. Our oil company sent a technician to look at the leaky boiler and confirm it was the boiler and not some other kind of repairable leak. But then they had to send another technician to quote a replacement, then we got the quote (and sticker shock) and it seemed the company would still have schedule the installers and we might have to cancel Christmas travels to babysit the boiler and make sure we didn't have a catastrophic flood in the cellar. Then we called Mike, he came over on a Monday and gave us an instant quote (thousands less for a comparable boiler) and he re-arranged his schedule a bit and got over here in two days, got the job finished in a single day, and we went off to Christmas vacation without a worry. Mike does the plumbing part and coordinated with an electrician and furnace technician to complete the job. The plumbing and the duct work were all done well. Mike used the two year old expansion tank and mentioned that as a plus on the price, but the duct to the chimney which was just OK was replaced with new duct work. Mike already had good reviews on Angie's list, but we promised him to add one more: he certainly deserves it. The installation salesman from the oil company was a nice person, but he was limited in price flexibility and in timing in getting an installation scheduled. In this case, small is better: Mike is the boss of his place and was able to do everything fast and give us a reasonable price without a lot of middleman markup.

Multiple water stains in a family room ceiling during the Christmas holidays forced us to open part of a ceiling. We found water leaking from several spots and expected we were going to need major plumbing work. Mike was prompt in returning our call and came at our agreed time. He quickly discovered the problem was a leaking supply line to a toilet upstairs. I was convinced several pipes were leaking but Mike was right that a single leak was causing our problems. It turned out to be a small job, handled quickly and we've been dry ever since. A less scrupulous person could have turned the job into more work than was necessary. We asked his opinion on another issue and he recommended us to someone who could work with our well pump. We had that work done and were happy with the referral. We will call Mike again if we have any future plumbing needs.

Mike was great! He arrived when he said he would, provided a quote, sourced a missing tub stopper for me and then called me back as promised to schedule the job, which was completed exactly as discussed. I couldn't have asked for more.

Great experience. Professional, knowledgeable and courteous. Mike returned my initial call promptly and asked for photos of the current water heater setup to determine what kind of venting was needed. Having the option to just text photos and get a quote made things easy. I was initially wary of hiring someone I hadn't used before and who who hadn't actually seen the setup in person (a less honest plumber might have found "surprises" when working and increased the price), but everything went very well. Mike brought another worker, and the two finished the job quickly and left a clean workspace. The price was exactly what had been quoted--even less because he offered me a $25 Angie's List discount. So far, so good with the new water heater! He texted several days later to make sure everything was working properly and answered a question about its operation. Glad to find a trustworthy, capable plumber!

Working with Mike ranks among the few truly great experiences we've had contracting services. This was particularly notable because we live out of state and were contracting the services for elderly family members in CT and located Mike through Angie's List. Mike was exceptional in his responsiveness, his easygoing attitude regarding payment arrangements, and communicated with us throughout the process so we knew exactly what he was doing. We couldn't have asked for better service . . .and all that at a truly reasonable price. We'd recommend him wholeheartedly to others.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and my elderly parents live in Ct. They have been struggling with a poor flushing toilet for years and were at a loss as to how to find a better toilet and who would install it. I did the research and then contacted Mike through Angie's List. He was very prompt with every response and had an ever better suggestion for a super flusher. After communicating with my parents (not an easy task because of hearing difficulties) they agreed upon a date and time for Mike to bring the new toilet and take the old one away. "It's a miracle!" My mother shrieked. "He is so nice, and our new toilet flushes like a cyclone, we love it. We threw the plunger away". I would HIGHLY recommend Mike.

With small children in the house we needed a plumber fast. I figured I'd give Angies list a try. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable per year cost. I searched for a local plumber, and locked in on the numerous positive reviews for Mike Barrett Plumbing, so I sent him a message direct from Angies list. He responded that same night and said he would call the next day. Not only did he call the next day, but also showed up and fixed the water heater. Since I was at work at the time, I left him a v/m asking for clarification on what was wrong and what he fixed. Again, a prompt response. All in all, I am extremely pleased with the professionalism, service and cost. In the very first use of Angie's list, I got my full year value,of subscription cost, and in the process found a plumber I would not only use again, but highly recommend to others. /Tom

bottom line, why go anywhere else. I found this guy here on Angies list and had him do a small project (not the one noted here, but in my last review). Of the 3 bids I got his was best. He completed that project on time and under budget (when does that ever happen with a plumber?). So I asked that he look at my furnace and hot water heater which were north of 25 years old. His bid was again the most competitive (of the three that I got). I did drive him a little nuts when I pestered him for reasons why he chose the boiler he did and which water heater he wanted vs. the one I wanted. Day of install; He and his crew showed up 15 minutes early. They had the old equipment out and the new equipment in before I knew it (and carted it away). Once the plumbing work was done they had an electrician come in to complete the hookup along with a boiler expert to tune the boiler (unbeknownst to me all these costs were included in his bid). The entire install went like clockwork. I was amazed. They were all polite and very professional. Of course by the time they left my boiler room was neater and cleaner than when they got there!. I will be hiring them for my next project in 2015 and have no qualms about recommending them to family and friends.

We had no water on Saturday morning. After a visit from our "water" people, they told us it was a leaky toilet. Emailed Mike right away. He returned our email within an hour and managed to fit us in for a Monday morning appointment. He came 20 minutes earlier then estimated and immediately took care of the one toilet problem and then kindly agreed to fix another toilet and two slow running/clogged drains in sinks in our bathroom. Mike is extraordinarily reliable, efficient and honest. We've had him take care of several items in the house and he never disappoints. In addition to his obvious skill as a plumber, the best thing about him is that he never takes advantage of his customers. When asked for his opinion about what needs to be done, he will tell you what is and is not necessary. He's saved us all kinds of money and recommended other excellent service people in the past when he could not do a job. Three days before Christmas, and all our problems have been solved. Santa came early this year when he sent Mike!
