I'm not sure how we first came in contact with Adam Gale/Sunset Hardwoods, but I think he came to our door offering to install hardwood flooring. I let him talk me into having flooring done, and I asked him for a detailed statement of what he would do and what he would charge. What I had in mind was a contract, but I did not use the word 'contract.' I suppose I assumed that he knew that a contract was what I was referring to. He later submitted a short description of what he would do and what he would charge. It was not a contract and he did not sign it. It is my fault that I continued to deal with him at that point. He had somehow gained my trust to the point that I allowed him to continue and I paid half the cost, to cover materials. I can't believe I was that incompetent. He is a manipulator. The job included new stair treads. When he brought the treads, I had to reject most of them as defective. There was a delay of about a week before new ones were available. He did not show up at the times he promised, and he said he had another job going and that he could show up when he could. I had to ask him twice not to use foul language when speaking to his helper in the presence of my wife. He apologized the first time, but then he did it again. He brought his child to my house on some occasions when he came to perform work. Within less than a week after he had supposedly finished the job, I was noticing that liquids that dropped on the floor were penetrating into the wood. I waited a few days to make sure the wood was in fact not properly sealed. I called him and he told me he was in Arizona and would be return by a date a week or two later. When I called him again, I told him the floor was not properly sealed. He questioned whether in fact there was a problem, but he assured me that he would take care of it. We made an appointment for him to come the next morning and look at the floor. He did not show up and did not call. At that point, I did not wish to deal with him any more because I did not like the quality of the work he had done. I never heard from him again. Since then, some of the planks in the floor have split. I have not yet hired anyone to correct the problems. I consider Adam Gale to be very unprofessional and to be dishonest, based on my experience with him. I invite him to challenge my statements.
