Not good. I made him bring over all the cabinet he removed from over my fridge (he was going to EXTEND IT BY 2 FEET because I asked him if he could move it forward and make my fridge and the cabinet look built in), the bifold doors he took from my house to stain, and all of the materials he purchased with the $1000 fee he asked in advance and will not allow him to finish this job. I had to ask him to fix the stain color he was supposed to match becasue he assured me he could. He did make it match after I made him, but he takes shortcuts in the work that do not work, doesn't know basic carpentry technique and expects to be paid experienced carpentry wages for shoddy, unacceptable craftsmanship. He can do good work but will only do it if you make him. After 6 weeks he had done nothing but make that shoddy, crooked, weird looking cabinet. He said he would redo it and have it ready by the next weekend along with all of the rest of the cabinets that he was to build and the next weekend rolled around and he had another excuse as to why he couldn't deliver anything, which is why I asked him to bring over everything that he had. I wanted to see his work and craftsmanship and what he had actually accomplished which was nothing but taking the old cabinet halfway apart and my refrigerator cabinet completely apart, which he claimed to have put back together but after he left, all he did was put the parts together enough to move it and didn't nail it back together and REFUSED to hang it again. My experience was that he is extremely unreliable, tells you whatever he thinks you want to hear and does not produce any results. And when you ask hm about it, he tells you he has it ready to install and will set up a day and time and then cancel with some lame excuse. I have pictures of the cabinet he made. It looks better in the pictures than in reality. The wood was rough and unsanded and when I asked him about he said that 'machines sand cabinets that you buy premade'. All I can do is shake my head at his ignorance, laziness and lame excuses for a)not coming with the item he says he will bring b) poor craftsmanship (wood not sanded smooth, seams don't meet and the excuse 'it won't show', poor design ability (how do you make trim on one side of the cabinet flush and the other covered by a 5" piece of trim? c) poor judgement and no common sense (how do you build a refrigerator cabinet in by taking it apart and extending the depth by another 2 feet? How do make one side of the cabinet flush, and not even flush as it didn't completely cover that edge, it was about 1/8" inch too short and give the other side a 5" piece of trim covering the cabinet opening)? d) remove your professionally-made cabinet, disassemble it without telling you what he's doing, and when you ask him to put it back together makes excuses about they poor way it was made, doesn't nail it back together completely, breaks a part of the side panel and e) doesn't do what you agreed upon in the beginning. On top of that, I had to pay him $1000 at the beginning of the project for materials, so I have lost $1000 due to his incompetence and negligence. He did bring the materials over that he purchased, but of course, no receipts. There's more but I listed the worst.
Description of Work: I contracted with Maverick's Woodworking to make a pantry and doors to cover my washer and dryer and broom closet. This was in my kitchen. He assured me that custom cabinets I wanted could be made to match my existing cabinets exactly and that it would take 1 month. He also assured me that he could match the stain color. He came over and removed the closet that I wanted to change into a custom cabinet and patched it with drywall, taped and sanded. It was not done very well, although I believe he did the best he could. When I said it wasn't smooth enough and you would be able to see that, he sanded it a bit more and said 'You'll never see that'. There is a bulge there after texturing and painting and you can see exactly where the seam lies. After 6 weeks of making excuses every weekend as to why he could not bring the first cabinet, he finally brought it and it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen and extremely unacceptable craftsmanship. You could see every seam in the wood; he was supposed to make a filler to fit in a gap between my cabinets and he cut it into 3 sections when we had talked about it being one piece and when I questioned that, he told me 'oh you'll never see that'. However, the seams didn't match and didn't even butt up closely together, nor did the grain line up. The trim on one side of the cabinet was about an 1/8 of an inch short of covering the side and it butted up to the side. Huh??? There's supposed to be a frame around the cabinet for the door to fit on. The other side of the open had a 5 inch wide trim piece covering the 18" opening, which was supposed to be 24. He decided to change the size. Again, 'nobody will see that'. Huh??? I could see it from across the room and it did not look good. Every time I asked him about some oddity, 'nobody will see that' was his answer. He left big 1 inch gaps between the wasll and cabinet and gain 'Don't worry, it will be covered'. covered with WHAT? The trim that was supposed to cover it was an inch short at the top and matched at the bottom. No way anything was going to cover that. There's more, but I won't go on and on. on but you get this idea. He's a beginning carpenter and likes to talk like he knows what he's doing, but all he does is talk the talk. He did not walk the walk when he was doing my work. He took my cabinet over the fridge home to work on it and decided on his own to take it apart and make it 2 feet deeper without even asking me becasue I asked him if it could be built in. Don't let him take any of your things home! You can't imaging the things he wants to do with them, and none of them are what you want, will make any sense or be anything you like.

Response from Maverick's Woodworking
This job was not completed due to the hostile environment my customer created; consequently her review is solely based on an unfinished project. The pictures posted show the cabinet before I uninstalled it and I was in the process of willingly modifying the trim and any other concerns she brought to my attention. With the alterations she requested, the pictures have no resemblance to the appearance of the final cabinet, had I been able to complete and install it, and should not be used as an accurate depiction of my work. I agreed to do this project at close to 60% below the price she had been quoted by other businesses to help build my start-up portfolio. I made it very clear to her that the majority of the work will only take place on weekends because I have a daytime job and I was upfront that my business was still in the beginning stages. The project designs were demonstrated and approved upon using 3-D modeling and she requested 7 design changes (one almost a complete redesign and four in the last week) all of which I accommodated at no additional charge. Once the cabinets were installed the only concerns brought to my attention came from anger and verbal abuse. She did pay $1000 for materials and while she has more than that value in her possession, the upfront cost does not cover hardly a portion of the 120+ hours of labor and design time that I incurred. I willingly modified my work to try to please her and she did not have to force me to do anything. I have documentation to support all the work I have done including the approved trim design depicted in the pictures. I never attempted to mask or ignore any work I had done and I attempted to complete the project to her satisfaction, but her anger and continuing changes dissuaded me from being able to so. In regards to the drywall, it is not my profession and she requested me to do it with reused finished pieces in combination with new unfinished pieces as a low cost alternative. The variations in the pieces caused the bulges she talks about in the review and I was unaware of any final drywall concerns she had until this review. Unfortunately it seems that her review is missing some very important details and some of the claims like “rough and unsanded” hold no basis of fact whatsoever. The “6 weeks of excuses” is inaccurate and holds no foundation without providing a timeline so I will outline the project as it unfolded. In the 1st week the first redesign was forced into the project by an unmovable wall. If you read the posted review she talks about the cabinet being 24” wide and the framing in the pictures was done to accommodate the wall into the cabinet to maintain that dimension at her request. I demonstrated this change to her using the above mentioned 3-D modeling both with and without the doors in place to show how the 24” width would be maintained. I also showing the wall flush on one the left side of the cabinet and the trim work on the right. The drywall was finalized in the 2nd week and I completed the internal designs required to complete the project modifications. In the 3rd week she ordered a set of bi-fold doors and insisted them to be incorporated into the project. This was done without my consent and forced a design modification of the cabinet width and a complete redesign of the remainder of the project with the exception of the refrigerator cabinet. Everything was put on hold for 1 week due to her forced decision and I was only able to start construction of the project in the 4th week. The 5th week brought a third design change which was done again at no cost. Poor weather restricted me from installing in the 6th week and I also informed her that my day job requirements would prevent me from installing the cabinet during the week. In the 7th week I installed the cabinets (without doors) and removed the cabinet over the refrigerator (see below). After the installation she requested the fourth design change that forced me to buy more supplies. That night I contacted her about the additional supplies and she told me she was unhappy with the installed cabinets. The next day I arrived at her house to discuss the cabinets and she proceeded to aggressively insult my work and my character. I uninstalled the cabinets to willingly adjust the trim and finish in an effort to make her happy. By the end of the week she had requested two more design changes; one being a functional clarification and the other she requested to be finalized during installation. Near the end of the week I was able to finish almost the remainder of the project, but was forced to stop work to deal with more concerns that she expressed from the design changes from the previous week. She requested the 7th design change and I was unable to complete any further work that day. On the first day of the 8th week, I brought over all the work completed per her request. While unloading she verified stains on pieces and acknowledged they were done well. Once inside she asked what work would be done from that point and I told her that I am walking away from the project. She agreed that would be for the best but when trying to leave the house she physically blocked my way to the door trying to force me to remount the refrigerator cabinet. I didn’t do any further installation or work as her actions created a hostile environment and I was no longer under any contract. She finally stepped out of my way and as I left she swore at me and began more verbal abuse. For the next few hours, she berated me further with text messages and voicemails which I politely did not respond to. The Refrigerator Cabinet – It is possible to move a cabinet forward but not at practical. With any cabinet, major modification must take place if two of the three supporting faces are removed. I am not sure where “extended by 2 feet” originated from as I was extending the cabinet frame to a depth of 2 feet to match the pantry by creating a new carcass and reusing the existing trim. This is reflected in the initial contact and the first design she agreed upon. The cabinet was not re-assembled in entirety due to her unreasonable demands to complete it the same day she contacted me, knowing it had already been disassembled it for the new carcass. I was unable to complete the project due to the hostile environment created and the constant berating of my customer. The entire project would have been completed in one more week to accommodate her requested design changes as long as no more were requested. It is extremely unfortunate that the job couldn’t be concluded, but no one deserves to be belittled and talked down to with contempt she demonstrated.
