Because we contracted for the house after it was started, we were not allowed as many choices. The timeline to make changes was very short and we had lots of trouble scheduling with the design center. One of our selections turned into a big problem in the kitchen because the wall tile did not come out as expected. After some negotiations they finally allowed us to make a change and we were compensated. We are a bit unhappy with the carpeting. The quality is not good. We were able to change the original designated color, though. We are also disappointed with the lack of and placement of some outlets, lack of towel racks and the quality of the moldings. Somehow a piece of molding got chipped and the result shows that the moldings are basically made of paper (recycled stuff is good, I guess). They do tend to skimp when they can. McStain has pretty good customer service system and they contacted us 4 times in the initial year to make repairs. However, they could do better.
Description of Work: McStain built our home which we purchased in 2004. We purchased the home in progress, so we did not to get to choose everything, but the builder allowed us to make many choices.
