He told me there was an open relay in the system and that I needed a new compressor. He also said I was low on refrigerant. He wanted $4000 to do the repair. I was skeptical because we repaired a hole in the line and charged the unit 2 years ago, and it was working fine the previous year. I told Brock that I could not afford the repair and to send me a bill for the work that he had done.
I called for a 2nd opinion. The 2nd opinion told me that the breaker on the unit was turned off. He also told me there was no refrigerant in the unit. He tested the system and found no leaks. He turned on the breaker, charged the system with refrigerant, and it has been fine ever since. The cost of charging the unit was $275.00. I never told Brock (Master Maintenance) about it. Brock never sent me a bill.
As far as I am concerned Brock removed the R-22 refrigerant from my system and tried to rip me off.
I will never call him again. Since I did not actually see him remove the refrigerant and no money changed hands I did not report him to the BBB. I asked for his proposal to fix the unit in writing and he sent it. Other than that I did not contact him again. I do not have the time or desire to get into a fight with him.
