Adam managed the project, checked in daily to let us know the sequence of the work, ensured the project was going as planned, and verified daily our satisfaction with the progress. The crew was professional in every way, and they went above and beyond to ensure the plan was perfectly executed. Part of the work required the removal of a large evergreen. We expected the stump to be leveled with the ground, but the crew actually removed the stump, allowing for a replacement shrub in its place. Flagstone was cut and placed with precision, and care was taken in the planting and cleanup of the site. The company and its staff are very professional. They communicate, pay attention to detail, meet their time commitments, and show concern that their work will meet all expectations. We highly recommend Thunderbird Design for your landscape needs.

+ 5 moreDustin and his team were very attentive to all of the details and were able to execute exactly what we wanted and did a very effective, timely and high-quality manner. Throughout the process of defining the project scope and details, I had a lot of back-and-forth conversations with Dustin and he always got estimates/quotes updated very quickly. When the crew came in to perform the work, they were able to make an incredible amount of progress in just a few days. Given the scope of the project, I was very thankful for the dedication and speed that the crew performed with. The whole project took about a week and a half...which I personally think is amazing given the amount of tear-out and new work that the crew performed. Whenever minor miscommunications occurred - which are bound to happen with a project of this size - Dustin and the team were very accommodating and we were always able to get things straightened out in a timely manner. I am totally impressed and cannot recommend Thunderbird Design highly enough for any large-scale outdoor renovation project.
Description of Work: Full yard renovation. Full task list included tear-out of old bushes/sod, installation of new sprinklers, installation of new sod, new tree and shrub planting, installation of a retaining wall (in order to level-out the grade and create a new playground area), installation of tons of large cobblestone and decorative boulders, installation of flagstone walking path, and new edging/bordering around the sod perimeter.

We had other bids and it seemed as if those companies wanted to do what they wanted and weren't too interested in what we talked about. Our property is pretty challenging in that the lay of the land naturally slopes and the builder, to their credit, provided great drainage for downspouts and sump pump ejection. Dustin drew up a plan that took advantage of our "good areas" and blended in the bad ones, rather than proposing hauling in fill or building huge retaining walls (both equating to a ton more $$$) The crew we had did an excellent job and they started when they said they would and were completed earlier than expected. Dustin, Amanda and Adam were great to work with and handled a couple of changes like pros. We had an HOA issue, which required them to move the concrete firepit base after it had been placed, and even that was handled with understanding and ease. Because of Thunderbird, our "mud pit" backyard was transformed into a comfortable and useful area featuring beautiful flagstone walkways with LED accent and pathway lights leading to a nice paver patio with a stone fire pit. Native shrubs and trees were perfectly placed and they also installed an irrigation system and new sod. The crew brought in tons after tons of rock to top everything off and really made the place look great. If you're looking for a company that does business the "old fashioned" way and actually does what they say they will do, when they said they would do it - hire these guys. I've heard all the horror stores about crews not showing up, having bad attitudes or doing quick and shoddy work. None of that BS will be a concern if you hire this company. I couldn't possibly be happier with our job from beginning to end. To show you just how good they are, about half of the people on our street alone used Thunderbird for their landscaping needs. Some of those people have even had them back a second time to design and complete new jobs because they are just that good.

+ 0 moreHow'd it go? Not well. The landscape designer never once appeared at my home to discuss his landscaping plan. One of the owner's appeared for a short time and then left the two day project in the hands of his workers The majority of the assorted perennials chosen could have been purchased at a big lot store because they were so common. There were a few varieties that were different. I was pleased with how the retaining wall came out. The retaining wall and the termed area around the existing tree were not installed according to the original landscaping plan. The project was credited as a result of our unhappiness over the plants selected and overall appearance of the landscape. The shrub and perennials were later removed at our request.
Description of Work: Removed old retaining wall, mulch, sod, dwarf Alberta Spruce and other plantings. Added drip irrigation to accommodate new planting and sod. Provided a new block wall. General landscaping: Created planting beds which included perennials and a shrub, and built a berm around an established Maple tree.

The work was done quickly and efficiently and our back yard is beautiful! High quality work, done quickly. Would definitely recommend to others thinking to do a little landscaping.

+ 5 moreI could not be happier with Thunderbird Design and how our project turned out. They completed our large project ahead of schedule and right on budget. Let me say that Thunderbird Design was by far the easiest landscaper contractor to get design plans and an estimate for our project. We had a pretty good idea what we wanted, but Dustin (designer) but it all down on paper with a detailed estimate. I'll have to say we were impressed with how hard the crew worked and the pace of the project as it proceeded. The crew also cleaned up every day before leaving. We have gotten many compliments on our new pergola, fence, patio, and landscaping.

+ 0 moreThe designer came to talk to me and listened to my thoughts on our yard project and solidified a plan and provided the quote for the work. The concept was a gas fire pit on a paverstone patio dug into the grade in our yard as it's quite sloped. The designer presented me with the quote of $18,000 which I thought was excessive. I asked about the plans' lack of fire pit in the drawing and was told "you don't want a fire pit". Actually that's the exact reason I called them in the first place was for a gas line fire pit. He said we'd be better off with a Wal-mart or Home Depot fire bowl. The plan also did not include re-sodding an area of the yard that was part of the whole project. I was left wondering who was gong to Hawaii on my dime. I called 2 other landscape companies and received bids in the $9000-12,000 range that included plantings, sod, and guess what...a fire pit run to a gas line. We had the work completed with one of these contractors. They did an AMAZING job, the stone work is beautiful. They also gave us a side wall on the patio that gives our guests a place to sit or set drinks while visiting. There was also the need to move sprinkler lines discovered in the dig area as well as installation of a french drain and a breeze walk way. The project came in a solid 40% less than Thunderbird and we got exactly what we wanted, not what the designer decided we didn't want. I believe Thunderbird would have done an equally excellent job however, the price point was too inflated for a project that didn't even meet the basic project goals.
Description of Work: Received a prospective design and quote for the work for a paver patio and fire pit. Thunderbird was very professional and solidified the concept I had in my head with a drawing and a quote.

Not the mess, but the quality of the workers and the professionalism and care for our property during the demolition and the install. No matter how tired the team got, they always put their best foot forward and did the job with a high caliber of work. Great job to all of them. We would recommend this company to anyone. Amazingly happy we ended up choosing them as the contractor. And we could not have avoided the mess. They had to jackhammer a very large area. The dust and mess had to happen to get the job done. But they were very considerate and did their best to keep it somewhat under control. Once all was cleaned up the inconvenience was worth it.,
Description of Work: They removed a concrete courtyard (large area) and replaced it with pavers. They also brought mulch to the front yard where it needed replacing. This was a huge job that took 2 weeks of labor with 4 people.

We first contacted Thunderbird Design and withing 24 hours they responded and were out to give us an estimate the next week. Our project was started on the day we were told it would start and they stayed on the job until it was finished. We had one rain delay but the project still finished on time. We had the same professional crew throughout the whole project. Adam, the owner, was out every day to oversee the progress. End results are BEAUTIFUL!! They don't just walk away when the project is complete. Adam follows up to insure we are happy, everything is looking as we expected and that plants are thriving. Highly recommend Thunderbird Designs!

+ 1 moreMy experience with Thunderbird was great. I have no major or significant complaints. Laura was very prompt in responding to my purchase via Angie's List. She came to the house a couple of days later and got my requirements. She created a design and quote within a couple of days after that. I increased the scope a bit based on their good pricing. She made the adjustments to the design and pricing and immediately. We settled on final plans and she scheduled install date. All of this prep work took place in less than two weeks. The actual installation was planned for three weeks after final paperwork was signed and Adam was my project manager. It took longer to complete the job because it rained during many of the intended install dates so things were delayed a bit to no fault of theirs. We also had a small hiccup on expectations with the patio paver steps, but Adam and I worked through it and everything turned out fine. The job was eventually completed and the crew did a great job. They cleaned up afterwards and were always very friendly and courteous while working. We had some minor discrepancies related to billing/costs but it was not a significant enough amount of money (compared to the overall job) to make a huge fuss about it. It was mostly a communication breakdown with adjusted costs. I did let them know my concerns and they were noted. I would (and intend to) use Thunderbird Designs again. Their pricing is reasonable and the service is great. I recommended them to a friend of mine already and they have satisfied as well. You won’t go wrong with these guys. They are a solid company from my experience. Thanks for everything.

+ 3 moreThey did a superb job on an icky job. The cleanup on the backyard was not a fun task and they did it very well. Then, the completed job was beautiful. I was totally satisfied. I always like it cheaper, but I am sure their price was fine.
Description of Work: I have used Thunderbird Design. Landscaping is what they did for me. I had a very messy backyard and they cleaned up all of the debris and stuff that was left over because I had a greenhouse that had been taken down. So, they cleaned out all of that and then, they put in grass and the sprinkler system and rebuilt the gate for me. They did hardscaping; they did give me a small slab. My yard is not that big; it is close to 2,000 square-feet.

He even came back out a second time to confirm our design, which we really appreciated when spending that much money. It was about a month later that the crew came and finished our backyard landscaping project in two days. Erik came back out for a final walk through and took care of a few additional things. We are so pleased with our new landscaping! Thunderbird is reliable, prompt, and great to work with. We will definitely use them in the future!

They installed a fountain I purchased and were very particular about creating a firm foundation and making it level. Also set up drip irrigation for all the new shrubs and perrenials. It is gorgeous! The cost was very reasonable for the work done--not cheap but I got my money's worth. The team was very tidy and worked very hard and very efficiently.

+ 2 moreA fantastic experience from first meeting through the end of the project.Our designer came out, listened to our (lack of) ideas, and was able to translate our scattered thoughts into a lovely design. We made a couple of changes to the initial proposal. Dustin and Thunderbird did not seem put out or annoyed. They were quick to revise the plan and the estimate and get back to us.Once we said we were ready to go, they completed the job perfectly, and quickly, with no hassle whatsoever. We are going to ask them to help us with a larger project in the back yard in the early fall.

+ 0 moreWe thought the price was fair for the amount of work,however, there are some quality and communication issues. The design person was Eric and he was responsive to our questions in a timely manner. There was a project manager, whom I only met when he dropped off plants and left immediately afterwards. (We were never told there was a project manager, nor given contact information.) The crew they had did not speak any English - so communication was a problem. I had concerns when the plants were being planted in the rock path area before the rock path was removed and the soil amendment added. The existing bed and new bed both have tons of weeds which came up within days of their work. I sent photos to Eric and he said he would take care of it. Someone came from the company and sprayed round up. The weeds are still there.We are very disappointed and would not recommend using this company.
Description of Work: Removed a rock path and dog house, added a section of planting beds, and planted plants in an existing bed. Added onto existing watering system with drip lines.
