In my estimation they did a great job. They were very courteous and took care to not do any damage to existing landscaping. They took great pains to measure and check level and plumb on all the pavestones they installed. We experienced a few days delay in starting but that was no fault of theirs. The weather was to blame, too much rain. They did call to advise of the delay and showed up on the appointed day to start the work. The job took from Tuesday to Saturday morning to complete and everything was done to my wife's and my satisfaction. They even went a bit further to re-do the existing brick walkway from my shed to the level of the new patio so a step up wasn't necessary.
Description of Work: They installed a pave stone patio with a small sitting wall at the front end. They did all the grading, fill and compacting needed to install the patio and have a grade for water to run off away from the house.

I agreed to the estimate (with Eric Sanders) and gave the go ahead on March 31, 2014. The contract was signed and a deposit made a few days later. The initial scheduled date (as of April 1) for the work to be performed was May 22. We asked that we be considered for any earlier dates that may open up. I was notified on May 13 that due to recent inclement weather our work date was pushed back to May 28. On May 21 the date was pushed back to June 4. I talked with Amber on May 22 or 23, she indicated that they could do the job on May 29 or 30 and someone would call me on May 27 to confirm. I was not contacted on May 27 so I contacted Amber on May 28 via e-mail. I received an e-mail on May 28 indicating that they would not be able to start the job until the afternoon of June 2 and would complete it June 3. I received a call around 2:00 on June 2 from Amber and was told they would be on site first thing the morning of June 3. As of 10:00 am on June 3, no one had showed up and no supplies were delivered. I contacted Eric Sanders (sales) and asked what I had to do to get this job done. I was contacted a few minutes later by Adam (owner). He assured me the crew and supplies would be there by 1:30pm. Adam and Erik were both arrived at 1:15 to lay out the job etc. The crew arrived shortly after that and began work. The work was completed on the afternoon of June 4. We were very happy with the crew and the final product. The work scheduling process was frustrating. Seven different dates for such a small job seemed excessive. As indicated in our ratings the price was fair, the quality of the completed job was excellent, responsiveness and punctuality were not very good, but everyone was very professional. Both Eric and Adam stressed that the scheduling problems we experienced were very rare. Since we were happy with final product we would probably try them again.
Description of Work: Leveled an area about 7'X17' around a custom built swing. They installed flagstone, edging and mulch (under the swing).
From beginning to end, Thunderbird Design was awesome. They were referred to us by our neighbors and great reviews on Angie's List. Dustin came out soon after we called and worked with us to design a backyard and patio that met our needs. There was no pressure, but he was available for any and all questions. He got back to us immediately. We decided to go ahead with the project, and they began in January 2014. They completed the demolition and patio within the time frame they had given us. They arrived each morning promptly, consulted us along the way, and cleaned up at the end of each day. They returned in early April to plant the plants. Again, they respond very quickly to any questions or concerns. They have taken care of the few minor issues since completion in a very timely and professional manner. We have the backyard oasis we dreamed of when we first considered this project. We have worked with several contractors since we moved into our home last August, and Thunderbird has been the best. No other company has been more concerned with customer satisfaction or worked in a more professional manner than Thunderbird Design. We have recommended them to other neighbors and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: Completely redid our backyard. Removed a sidewalk and steps, took out existing sod. Designed and then installed a paver patio, a fire pit, landscaping, irrigation, and lighting around the patio. They also added landscape lighting to our front and installed a raised bed garden area.

lderGot 5 bids on a design. Some were cheap, some were expensive, these guys fell somewhere in the middle. Pretty big job, and they only asked for 10% up front to get started. So with plan in hand, they followed it to a tee. Even offered great suggestions to improve upon it. They were there every day, and if weather was bad on any weekday, they worked on Saturday and Sunday. If ever there was any issue, question, or concern, they were available to address it to everyones satisfaction in reasonable time. Didnt even ask for final billing until we walked off entire job and they were certain we were happy. I only wish they offered ongoing weekly maintenance service, because I would definitely hire them
Description of Work: Entire yard for new home. Installed entire lawn, including 60 various flowers, plants, trees, bushes, etc. Installed pavers for sidewalk to courtyard. Installed entire irrigation system and mechanicals, timers, etc. Installed pavers in courtyard. Poured concrete for steps in courtyard and back door for all exterior doors into home with pavers. Installed additional drains for run off and irrigation including extensive french drain system.

We met with the Thunderbird agent April 8, made appointment for rep to be on site and , take measurements and discuss. On 15th met to discuss project. Goal was to improve the appearance of a front and back yards that were already landscaped and get it done in a 30 day window before it was too late in the April- mid May season to move perennials. The time window was already short. Said they could do job.We waited. emailed. On 4-22, we got email with a minimal drawing with just a few lines drawn on the back yard area outline. Nothing about front , or either sides. It appeared to be a I'm too busy, hold off response done in 5 minutes. Included rough area outline and 4 black lines and a list of 5 plants. Now desperate to move things forward, I spent hours trying to find what those plants, what they looked like in each season and the sun, soil, and other necessary details about them. Later, I recieved an email asking what we thought. ( I have to assume what we thought of those few black lines and 5 plant list,) Replied we were trying to decipher the meaning of those few lines and list of 5 plants and how what we recieved could even pretend be a plan for modifications of 1/3 acre and how we could possible even have any opinion of just a few black lines. Three weeks after our first contact Thunderbird responded with an email saying they sent the wrong attachment weeks earlier. They sent a new attachment. This one likely took about 8 minutes total. It added locations of 5 plants to the 3 black lines. There was no mention of what was proposed for all the existing landscaping and lawn. A few stick lines, not evan a rough idea of a plan for the front and back.I later discovered that the new attachment they said was supposed to have been sent previously, that added only proposed locations of 5 plants, didn't even exist earlier. They could not have intended to send something earlier that did not then exist. The new attachment had only been created minutes before it was sent, not much earlier as misrepresented. Even the new stick lines were 90% short of any kind of plan we could respond to in any way. If they needed more money to actually create something of value they should have said so. They did not. We were 3 weeks into a 4 week window and we just discovered we could not believe anything we were told. They had clearly put us on back burner hold. The dates of origin and changes inside the window code proved it. We were simply being shined on, our valuable time window of opportunity wasted by a company simply that put us on hold to go back to if bigger jobs didn't turn up. If you don't have time to do a job or don't want a job, be honest, just say so. If you need more money to move forward just say so. Either do the job or turn down the job. Get off it or on it. Be honest. Let people move on to hire a company that will do the job.Lead follow or get out of the way. My opinion only.
Description of Work: Angies List Coupon. How do you rate a company that that sand bagged you, just kept you tied up during a short window to do a job, pretending they would do it and prevented you from finding a company that would do the job in your short time window available. If you don't want to do anything, and don't mind them just shining you on, call them. If you want to get the job done call someone else.

The whole process was great from beginning to end. They listened to my likes/dislikes, and needs such as having dogs who tear out rose bushes. The design is creative and beautiful and was exactly what I wanted. They also installed the sod, rock, sprinkler, and some trees. They are allowing me to add items from the design as my budget allows which is very helpful. Also, they took the time to explain the sprinkler system to me, how to maintain it, how to manage the lawn, etc. Every person I've worked with, including the office staff, have been friendly and professional. A great experience overall.

I'm a little bit ambivalent because the guy came out in a timely way with his partner and we talked about what I wanted. He said he would send me an email, and when he did I was out of town. I liked his responsiveness but I did not like the design. I need to call him back and say let's talk. He did not do what I asked him to do. He gave me a design but he did not exactly put where the plants would go. He just drew little arrows that these types of plants would go in that area. He did not give me a picture of where the plants would go. I'm not crazy about the design he came up with. I would not necessarily want to put that in writing, since it wouldn't be fair to him since I didn't call him back so that we could talk. I don't think he did what I asked for, maybe it would look really nice when and if I got it done. This was in last August. It cost four hundred and twenty five.

I LOVE Thunderbird Design!!! They wrote the book on quality care and customer service. My new house had no landscaping - I contacted several design companies and chose Thunderbird. Every aspect of the project was well-designed and properly managed. I will employ their landscape maintenance services as well. I am thrilled with their work and recommend them to anyone with a landscape project.

Dustin who is the landscape designer was very kind and professional, we really only had a few ideas of what we wanted our backyard to look like. Dustin drew up a landscape plan just a few days after our initial visit. There was no consultation fee which we appreciated, Dustin's ideas and vision for our backyard began to take shape, he is truly talented and a delight to be around. Thunderbirds work crew were just as nice, very punctual and extremely polite. Everyone did an amazing job bringing it all together in the end. We would highly recommend Thunderbird, we will continue to use Thunderbird to restart the drip line this Spring and maintain plant maintenance. They are the only company I feel comfortable using to keep our backyard looking so nice.
Description of Work: Remodeled the backyard, brick columns/brick wall, built in grill, stone work, rock flooring, shrubs, aspen trees, plants, brick flower beds, drip line for plants, fence, two gates, fire pit, pergola, bamboo fence to cover up the fan unit and grass replacement.

We hired Thunderbird Design to do general landscaping in our front yard. They laid mulch in preparation for bedding plants in Spring, moved sprinkler heads around, removed rock & sod. We were very happy with the job they did. Dustin Bailey was prompt in returning our calls and gave us some good feedback as to the lay-out of the landscaping. He was very professional and was good about communicating with us. The crew did the job in one day. They were courteous & cleaned up when they were done. They could only do half the project because it was so late in the year, they will come back in the Spring to do the planting. We were so impressed with how well the project looks even though it is not fully finished. We look forward to having them back in the spring to finish up. We were impressed with Dustin and would definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Landscaping for our front yard.
From the beginning, all contact with Thunderbird was timely, professional and courteous. The project was extensive. There were several major concerns with this 40-year old landscape: drainage and grading issues around the foundation of the home, extensive erosion, a sidewalk that had badly shifted (and had already been mudjacked with less than wonderful results), overgrown areas, and years of poor maintenance. There really was no curb appeal at this home - the landscaping was really dragging the value of this house down! From the beginning, Thunderbird provided a detailed design and estimate, which was very helpful, in that we didn't have an unlimited amount of money to spend on this project. We were able to work with the designer and make several tweaks until we arrived at a final plan, which included correction of grading and drainage surrounding the house, renovation of a stone retaining wall, tear out and replacement of a tiered planting area in front of the house, removal of a decorative split-rail fence, renovation of a large stone bed, removal and replacement of two patios, replacement of a sidewalk with a paver walkway, building an entry deck by the front door, tear out and replacement of existing sod areas, preparing a tiered backyard area for planting beds, adding irrigation...the list goes on and on. Once work began, the crew worked diligently and kept me very well informed along the way. Despite a few days of below zero weather, the crew finished this first phase in a very timely manner. In spring, we will complete the irrigation, sod, and plantings. The quality of work has exceeded my expectations, and I can scarcely believe the transformation! It almost seems like a whole new home. We now have usable patios, an attractive entry way, proper and functional drainage that no longer threatens the foundation, and a brand new easy to maintain landscape that not only vastly approves the curb appeal of this home, but also will add value for years to come. I can hardly wait for spring to see the completed project, but I already have great confidence that it will be beautiful and will be completed with great care. Working with this company has truly been a pleasure, which is such a great comfort when spending such a large amount. I'm very glad I chose to work with Thunderbird Design.

Description of Work: They repaired a drain damaged due to the Colorado flood, installed new french drain on side of house and ran down spout away from the house. These guys are very nice, on time and professional, so this is a difficult review to write. They were on time, did the job and made initial attempts to make sure I was satisfied. The problem is the end product. Maybe drain work is not their area of expertise, because the initial drain on the side of the house was covered with barrier material without rocks or other material covering the barrier. It was very odd. When we asked why, we were told that you are supposed to keep black barrier over the drain. It is incorrecrt and obviously looked unacceptable. So, they removed the barrier and installed metal trim between the drain and the yard to keep out dirt. The trim is crooked and looks pretty bad. Will have someone else replace. The drain is what it is. They ran a down spout to get water away from the house. Issue is the material used and lack of depth. After the fact i learned that this pipe should be at least 12" below surface to mitigate freezing. This was put in right below the rock. Not burried. The pipe used was very cheap white PVC instead of the black flexiable pipe that is a bit more expensive, but looks much better and more appropriate for the job. The release valve is spring driven, which requires pressuer to release the water. While the system gets the water away from the house, it does not actually drain anywhere. Just terminates at the spring driven release. i'm not sure how this will play out, but is not a good way to wisk down spout water from the house. They repaired a a 70 foot french drain that was covered by flood debris. It cost around $3,700. i have since learned that I probably over paid, but that is my own fault. My issue is that the drain is right next to the retaining wall, which was leaning when they dug out and repaired the drain. Not their fault. However, I have since learned that doing that weakens the retaining wall. I would expect a drain company to know that and bring it to my attentioon. So, they did what i asked, but going forwrad, I want to work with experts that will educate me on the bets way to fix a problem. Lastly, they came out right after the flood at my request to figure out what we could do. Again, they were EXTREMELY responsive and helpful. They placed a temporary pump in the yard to try and move water. The problem is that I then received a $500 bill for that. It is a $100 pump, that i didn't know i was buying, and no other work was done. So, while they were fantsttic in coming out, there is really not a basis for the charge. I really like these guys, but unfortunately because of the foregoing I am unable to recommend them for at least drain related work.

I worked with Eric. He was very professional, worked with me to make sure he understood what I wanted the area to look like and came up with a really interesting and creative design. I am looking forward to getting the plants in this spring. The job was rescheduled a couple of times, but Eric and Amber (office manager) were very prompt about letting me know about the delays (just a few days) and made sure that the schedule worked with me. The crew was right on time, worked hard, very professional and did an amazing job removing all the trees and brush. They did a wonderful job cleaning up. They were very careful not to drop any heavy materials on the driveway and when they were done, all that was left was a prisitne garden area. Very nice job.
Description of Work: Thunderbird designed the landscape for a large overgrown area of my backyard, removed a medium sized cherry tree, about 10 sumac trees, vines and other overgrown groundcover. They applied planting mix, mulch and a drip system for the future plantings they will provide this spring. This review is just for the demo work and mulch/topsoil work

I was a little disappointed with what I got. I just pretty much got an overhead picture which I’ve had 3 estimates from other landscapers that has given me a lot more information than them. With the money I paid, they should have given more but for the most part, I’m not going to be moving forward with them. They came out pretty quickly and I kept in touch with them.

Service was excellent, from a detailed bid with drawing to the commitment to getting the project done on time. I was so impressed by the energy of the crew, and how lovely our yard became through their work. I was especially impressed that they kept the debris to a minimum so as to not disturb us, or our neighbors, and every day they cleaned up before they left. We intend to use Thunderbird to maintain the lawn and irrigation, and we are going to have them do more landscaping in our back yard.
