Description of Work: I cannot make enough great comments regarding Schaefer Lawn Sprinklers, Inc. Bob and Tom Schaefer and their terrific crew were just fantastic. My experience from beginning to end was superlative. Bob responded to my inquiry on Angie's List in just a few hours. We made an appointment and he came to the house just a few days later. He explained the system, what they would use and how they would do it. My first concern was how my lawn would look when they were finished. Bob told me that I would not even notice that the work had been done. That was true. When they finished the installation, it was hard to tell anyone had been in my yard. Tom Schaefer and his crew worked diligently and quietly with a great deal of respect for my property. The job was started and finished when I was told it would be. The estimate came in right on the button. At no time was I not privy to what they were going to do. I always knew what they were going to do and when and how they were going to do it. I have never had a better experience with a contractor and I am extremely pleased with my new sprinkler system. The Schaefer Bros. should give lessons on how to run a business and how to treat clients and their property.

Description of Work: I took my sweet time in trying to find a reputable & then experienced sprinkler company, and now I can say that I'm so very glad that I did. I interviewed 5 different companies and discovered that there are a number of "fly by night" guys out there of whom claim they can install sprinklers, even though their business is only involved in turning sprinklers on in the Spring and off in Fall. Amongst this group of losers, was a rep from a large sprinkler company of whom has a booth at the Denver Home Show every year. And it was clear from the beginning that this company isn't too concerned about doing anything close to a quality job at all. Just get the customer to sign the paperwork as soon as possible, do the job in the least amont of time and get out. Additionally, I caught this sales rep lying to me, so I showed him the door. I was absolutely shocked by the number of losers that are out there trying to convince customers that they can install a quality sprinkler system for their home. So with all this in mind is why Schaefer stands out as much as they do. Schaefer has been installing sprinkler systems for 25+ years. Schaefer was the only one of whom told me that we would need to pull permits (everybody else denied that these were necessary; but that's not true per Denver's codes.) Schaefer was the only one of whom also took very accurate measurements of my property. When we met to go over their proposal, they had blueprints detailing out where they wanted to put all the various sprinklerheads etc. No one else did this. Most didn't even want to bother taking measurements of my lawn! Also, the system that Schaefer put in is such that I'll be able to turn it on in the spring and off in the fall by myself. So I won't need to pay someone to do that for me. They made life simple for me. I have spent over $125,000 remodeling my home over a 15 year span. I am a professional businesswoman but have done most of my own big and small projects including plumbing, electrical and carpentry projects, so I'm no dummy. And in the course of my various remodeling pursuits, I have hired a plethora of subcontractors, hence, I've seen it all. However, I can tell you that Schaefer Lawn Sprinklers is definitely one of the best, if not THE BEST, contracting company that I've ever had the absolute pleasure to work with. These guys are amazing, very professional and when they say that they'll be there, believe me, they will. When they say they're going to do something, no matter what, they do it. Absolutely no hassles whatsoever. As I mentioned, I interviewed 4 other companies prior to having Bob Schaefer come out. At one point, I was so tired of interviewing people that I almost gave up. But thank goodness I didn't, as at contractor #5, I met the guys at Schaefer. And my experience was so extremely positive, that I am so very glad that I didn't give up.

+ -1 moreWe made the appointment and then my wife took time off of work to be at the appointment (because they dont work weekends or evenings). After a couple days they called back to ask to reschedule. Like most people, we couldnt afford to just keep taking time off of work to meet their schedule. I was traveling at the time they called and couldnt call back for a little over a week but when I did the woman made it sound like it was my fault that the appointment had to be moved and that they had given me ample time to adjust my schedule (again) to meet their needs. Am I not the customer here? I gave "responsiveness" an F because of the inflexible schedule and the time change and "professionalism" a C because a person working the phone shouldnt make it sound like it is my fault they are needing to reschedule and offered no apology or alternative (like, oh, how bout working an evening). Price quoted was good but the schedule was inflexible, an adjustment to the appointment was made (which I cant stand), and service on the phone needs improvement.
Description of Work: This was supposed to be a simple blowout of my sprinklers that didnt happen because I canceled the appointment before it happened due to the following:

+ -1 moreWent very well. Schaefer has all the right tools to minimize lawn damage and good careful employees. They had to go under the driveway to get the strip to the property line and they had to dig up a bunch of tree roots. The lawn recovered completely in three weeks. "Tom" was the super, and he was outstanding. He planned the new system and helped install it, then he adjusted it for maximum efficiency for June, came back over and over (after working all day) to readjust heads and timing. The day they installed, his crew came after working all day on other sites to get the system set exactly. He brought a help sheet on which he had figured the timing for the different summer months for both the front and back yards. He was patient and pleasant. I have used Schaefer for many years. They send a card reminding to make an appointment for shut-off and blow-out in the autumn and turn-on in the spring. Again, always pleasing and efficient.
Description of Work: Replaced broken front-yard sprinkler system, 40 years old, with new more efficient system.

Description of Work: Evaluation and repair of sprinkler system that had been installed, wired, and programed by my incompetant son-in-law. Mr. Tom Schaefer (the owner) spent 1 hour at $75 for the 1st 30 minutes and $84 for time spent after 30 minutes. This plus parts came to $192. Well worth the price given the mess that my system had been. Mr. Schaefer couldn't have been more professional or personable.

+ 0 moreWe had just moved into our new house when we found out the previous owner had not blown out and shut off the sprinkler system. Since we were already in the middle of winter and had a few snow storms, my husband and I were anxious to the the system shut down. Mr. Schaefer showed up the next day, and blew out and shut down the system. He had to do a little extra work since the lines had frozen in some places but never charged us for it. We will use Schaefer lawns for any type of service on the sprinkler system.

+ -1 moreBob Schaefer was very attentive from the very first call I made to him for an estimate. He came out to measure the yard and in less than one week brought BLUEPRINTS with the exact zones measured and the type of sprinkler heads he was going to install. He presented a report which included before, during and after pictures of their work, many pages of addresses where they had installed systems, info on the brand of sprinkler heads and hosing as well as a brochure on what to expect from your irrigation contractor. He also told us that when it came time to turn off the back flow preventer in the Fall, he would come out with directions and TEACH US how to do it ourselves unlike other contractors who insist that only they have the know how to do this and thus keep you locked into their services annually. The warranty was five years which included parts AND labor. Their team of workers were prompt and worked well together. They did not dig trenches, but rather sliced through the ground forcing the tubing in the slice. As a result, you couldn't even tell a sprinkler system was installed. A point many of our neighbors noted. They were happen to add a zone for an extra spigot in another area of the yard during the installation. What was particularly surprising was that he did not require a down payment. He didn't even demand payment upon completion but rather asked us to test the system for several weeks to make sure we liked it. Now, with a statement like that as well as a 5 year warranty we knew they had to be confidant about their quality of work. It was a bit pricier than other bids but was worth the warranty. Since the installation, we had them come out to move sprinkler heads because we decided to build a deck. They were out the very next day.

+ -1 moreThe tech, who mentioned he had been with the company for 20 years, was within the arrival time estimate, and efficiently completed the task. I've used Schaefer for about 5 years for winterization and repairs and have always found them to be knowledgeable, efficient and fair in pricing.
Description of Work: A sprinkler system with 5 zones was winterized (water blown out of all lines). My set-up is a little unusual because the air hose must be threaded through a covered window well and then a basement window to be connected to the system. In previous years, I've paid $65 for this service. This year I asked for and received a $5 senior discount!
