I recently had the misfortune of hiring a woman to reupholster 2 of my living
room chairs...I found her in the yellow pages. Her company is called Studio B,
her name is Linda Grace Bradley and she is located at 6045 N Union Blvd CS CO,
I hired her because she sounded like she knew what she was doing and seemed to
need the business. She picked up my chairs on 9/7/12 with the agreement of a
start date on 9/10/12 and an estimate finish date of
9/24/12...after one excuse after another ...I finally got my chairs back
11/5/12. I realize her finish date was only an estimate but I really
think 6 weeks past that date is ridiculous. After she finished them all of a
sudden she was demanding cash payment on the bal of what
she was charging ($550.00 for both chairs and I supply the materials with half
down) for immediate delivery. She originally accepted check for upfront 50% of total $550.00 and stated she would accept check payment for bal owed upon completion. If I wanted to pay by check I would have to wait
for check to clear and then she would deliver. I told her I would pay cash, even though that
was not what was agreed on. After I said that I would pay cash for remaining balance of $275.00 she said I would have to come
pick up the chairs and pay cash. After much arguement she agreed to deliver
chairs as she had promised. When she showed up she would only take one out of
her truck until I paid her in full, she had brought 3 other people with her
(for backup I assume although I didn't understand why she thought she needed
that). I understood after she unloaded chairs and I and a friend got a close
look at them why she wanted full payment in cash before allowing me to inspect both chairs. I said her workmanship was mediocre, my friend said she thought I was being way to generous saying that in her opinion the workmanship was poor. I was trying to be nice by saying mediocre, I agree with my friend about poor workmanship. I know how to sew and think I could
have done the job just as well if not better. But she had me over a barrel, I
had already paid her $275 and invested over $250 in material and she was
refusing to give me my chairs back if I didn't pay her the balance owed. I am
now going to have to pay more for someone else to fix the mess she made. I have taken pictures of the chairs, that are available if needed, in good light that show how poor the workmanship is. She had taken pictures in dark lighting that did not really show the workmanship at all.
I just wanted to respond to the Studio B response. She states she is retiring from this kind of work as of 12/2012 and doesn't care what Angie's List does as far as a review. This only makes it more obvious that she does not know what she is doing, if she really did
and was confident in her workmanship she would not be going out of business and she would care what kind of review her business received.
"20 years in business. The member found me price shopping. My mother passed away September 8, 2012. She bullied me during my grief to get work done as soon as possible. She was angry that I didn't deliver chairs unpaid. I took three witnesses confirm this. I am enclosing pictures with good lighting. I cannot be responsible for slight wrinkle in front seam of sit down area. The back pleats could have been better with better interfacing, but I re-used old interfacing for budget reasons. Some of the complaints are staged. She is demanding high end work for a made in China price. I will be quitting business after end of December 2012 anyway, as I do more lucrative other work now. You can do as you wish. I could make more money cleaning houses without this kind of hassle."
