From beginning to end, this was a first class experience. I was calling different companies so that I could get a few to come to my house to give me quotes. Not only was Jim extremely easy to get in touch with, our first meeting went so well that I didn't look any further. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, or what would fit into our budget. He looked at my existing patio and had some wonderful ideas right away. He is all about making sure that his work matches the existing house perfectly, and does not look like an afterthought. Once the project got started, it kept right on going. We had some bad weather days here and there, but other than that the guys were here every day working until the job was finished. Jim would stop by throughout the process to see how everything locked, and to make sure I was happy with it. If he didn't catch me at home he would always call me, so that I knew what to expect next. He handled everything with the permits and the inspections, he even got the project approval from my HOA! I've never heard of a contractor doing that. He made it so easy, it was awesome. Then when the project was completed, (and he was already paid in full) he still would stop by to make sure little flaws were touched up, some of which I wouldn't have even noticed. Jim came by at the end of May to give us an estimate on a new composite deck to be built in our backyard. Jim showed up on time and was very pleasant to work with. He listened to what we wanted to have in a deck and worked with the space we had. The work started about a month later due to waiting for HOA approval. Jim was great with communication throughout the process, he was very through with paperwork and permits that needed to be taken care of. The project went quicker than we had anticipated. The rear deck and front were all torn out and removed in a day and a half. The materials were immediately placed in a dumpster and the site was clean at the end of everyday. The crew was polite and easy to talk to regarding all of our concerns. Jim Velarde was recommended to us by a neighbor who also used them. I noticed how quickly the work was done and how beautiful the end result was. My husband and I decided that our old and worn out deck was becoming too much of a maintenance effort to sand and paint. We started the process by interviewing 3 deck companies to find the one that would meet our needs and provide quality service at a reasonable price. Needless to say, we experienced ?sticker shock? because we had not priced out a deck in a very long time. The 3 bids from the companies came within $1500 of each other, but the real difference between the companies was design. We decided to work with Jim Velarde and Premier Custom Decks and Outdoor Living because he listened to what we wanted and created a design that carried out our thoughts for the space. We did not want an elaborate backyard deck, but we wanted something new and contemporary instead of the typical rectangular deck with wood railings all around. We have a waterfall and small pond in our backyard and we wanted to sit at the patio table and be able to view the waterfall. Jim listened to what we wanted and designed the deck so that it opened up the space with platform steps coming off the angled deck to a beautiful concrete, stained and stamped patio. His crew consists of highly skilled craftsmen?from the deck builder to the concrete craftsmen, to the metal railing fabricator. Beautiful work! Jim handled all the paperwork with Douglas County and the Highlands Ranch Homeowners? Association and gave us a detailed schedule of when everything would happen. I was impressed with his coordination of all the logistics and he was communicating with us every step of the way. The project started on time, was completed earlier than projected and was right on budget. It came out beautiful and we are completely satisfied. What a nice change of pace. I know this sounds hokey, but it's true..... We have done many projects over the years and it seems that there is always something that goes wrong. I told Jim from the very start that we are VERY picky people. After all was said and done I have to say that this was the best construction project experience we've ever had! Jim and his team from Premier Custom Decks just completed our deck re-build well ahead of schedule and we couldn?t be happier! The process was smooth from beginning to end. At our first meeting, Jim took time to assess our needs and study the scope of our project; he had many ideas we hadn?t considered including extending the deck an additional 2 feet and adding a watertight barrier to the underside of the deck, protecting the patio below. Our new fiberon deck includes 4 brick columns (24x24) and a watertight membrane with gutters and downspouts under the deck to protect the patio below. Once the project got started, Jim was a great communicator and kept us up to date every step of the way. His crews of workers were always prompt and polite and Jim addressed any questions or concerns immediately.
