I got an estimate for a water heater replacement on 3/16/15 which took an hour when the rep said it would take 15 minutes. He worked up a quote for 3 options, with the most expensive being a tankless system for nearly $5K. The least expensive option was a 50 gallon water heater for $1250 (current one is 40 gallon). I questioned the price for the 50 gallon (tankless much too expensive) since I had gotten a quote from another provider for $200 less. The rep said the extra was for the professional series water heater he had quoted and my other quote could not have been for that level of water heater. I felt pressured to make a decision at the time since the quotes were ready then. I went with the 50 gallon and added a pressure tank for another $200 at the recommendation of the rep. We scheduled the install for the next day. It was an inconvenience since it was in the middle of the day and I had to take off work, but I wanted to get the job done and it seemed like the extra money was worth it from the sales pitch I had just heard. The next day the rep called me an hour and a half before the install was to take place to say they didn't have the water heater and to call him back to discuss it. I had already left work and didn't pick up on the message until I was in the car on my way home. I tried to call him back, but there was no answer even though the message said I would be able to get him right away. Once he did get back to me, he said they could still do the job and install another water heater they had in stock for $100 less even though he had said the previous day that heater should be $200 less. By that time, I was irritated with the whole experience and didn't want to give my business to a company that didn't respect my time and make sure they had talked to me directly about not being able to make the original appointment instead of just leaving a message and then going on to another estimate.

Great responsiveness and work from this business. Our furnace stopped working so I called and spoke with a friendly person on the phone. He said he had a 4pm to 5pm time frame open and possibly a 11am-1pm time frame also. I was quoted a standard service call fee of $105 but it may cost more depending on any additional major findings. Basically, $105.00 was the minimum I was going to pay. At 12pm, technician, Carlos, called my wife and met her at our home to start the diagnoses and repair process. He immediately found the problem and fixed it along with our humidifier. Carlos was friendly, technically knowledgeable and professional. Total cost was the the quoted service call fee of $105. We recommend this business and will definitely hire them again in the future. UPDATE: 12/23/2014 Furnace stopped working again and Home Heating Service inc. immediately sent out a technician to fix the furnace, which turned out to be a completely different issue than last week. The service personnel were Fred and Jared F. Like Carlos, both were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We were not charged another service call fee. The only charge was for the installation of a burned out igniter...about $50 for the installation and the part was covered under warranty. This business operates in a very professional manner. Very happy we went with them.

The service techician was extreme knowledgeable on the heating system and walked me through everything he was doing. He did notice an impending failure of my 15 year old thermocouple and showed me where it would fail. He tuned up my furnace and cleaned it out. I was concerned about the efficiency of my system, but the techician insisted my system was fine for my house and did not try to push anything on me. I inquired about a replacement thermocouple, and he installed the replacement, showed me how to do it, and had me keep the old one as a back up, so I wouldn't have to call someone if the new one ever failed. The techician also answered all my questions about insulation and other home efficiency concerns. Again, the techician never tried to push any service or equipment on me. I was very happy with my service experience with Home Heating Services, Inc.

They had to saw it up in order to remove it from the crawl space. We knew the original furnace was behind the 28 yr old furnace and had asked if they wouldn't mind removing that one too (not in their job requirement) but they graciously started sawing that one up into three pieces and hauled them both out. The one they replaced also had to be sawed in half in order to have it removed! We were so impressed by their professionalism and their efficiency. I would definitely use them again and I absolutely recommend them.

We had been using Home Heating for our annual service for a couple of years and they had always been very good. However, we noticed their prices increasing and during this last service we suspected they were trying to pad the bill by recommending unnecessary work. Specifically, the tech said the bearings on our blower motor were going and he recommended replacing the entire blower - at a cost of approximately $600. We declined the service because what he was saying did not really make sense based on our own observations and the fact that the furnace was not that old. The furnace performed well all last winter. Sure enough, this year we used a different company to do our annual service and the tech correctly identified the problem was actually the blower capacitor. It was still within limits, but was right at the limit. The repair was only $70, so we had the capacitor replaced. This was much cheaper than the several hundred dollars the unnecessary Home Heating repair would have cost. Either the Home Heating tech did not know his stuff or he was trying to pad the bill by recommending unnecessary repairs. Either way, this is not the kind of company we want to do business with. Note: the cost listed above was the cost of their annual "Comfort Club" which includes the furnace inspection.

We're sorry you were displeased with the service you received. We consistently aim for the highest level of professionalism, customer service and technical skill that we can attain. We are slightly puzzled by your comment on our prices increasing as we have not had an increase in our service and maintenance prices for upwards of 5 years. Some parts and equipment have gone up but that's due to manufacturer price increases. Our records indicate that you were offered the renewal in 2013 for the exact same price you paid in 2012 but you declined it. Once again we have not increased our service or maintenance prices for some time. As for the technician's recommendation regarding your blower motor and wheel, this stems from his observation of its condition and does not insinuate that it is going to fail the next day or will keep running for 5 years. Anytime we observe something that could create or be a possible issue in the future we inform our customers. We would not be doing our job if we didn't. Its purpose is strictly to allow our customers to make informed decisions, not to "pad" bills. I'm sure you would not be happy if we knew about the condition of the motor and didn't tell you and then the motor failed at a most inopportune time which is usually in the middle of extreme weather conditions. And the motor capacitor has nothing to do with the motor bearings being worn, its purpose is to enhance and regulate power being supplied to the motor. The bearings are what supports the windings on the shaft and are only a mechanical component not an electrical one. We appreciate your business over the years and are sorry that you did not contact us a year ago to discuss this. Discovered my water heater was leaking at 7:30 am and immediately searched Angies' list for "water heaters". Discovered Home Heating Service was now offering water heater replacements...over the past 11 years I have had Home Heating service replace my furnace, install air conditioning, seal my attic and bring the attic insulation up to R49. I also have had them do inspections and adjustments to the furnace and AC biennially. In each and every visit, they always did top-notch service and, when needed, sold the highest quality equipment. So I knew I didn't need to look any further. I immediately called them and explained my situation (heater leaking, it was a Friday, and I had jury duty on Monday). They sent a sales rep out immediately...he arrived before 8:30. He looked over the situation and took measurements. While doing this, I pointed out I had a replacement water pressure regulator that I hadn't yet found time to install myself and asked if he get that installed during the water heater replacement process while the system was fully drained. He agreed to do that at no extra charge! He offered several quality levels of replacement heater; I decided on Rheem's highest quality water heater with an 4 year warranty extension (bringing the total warranty up to 12 years). He said that the shop was short-handed that day but, given my situation (and possibly because I was a long-time loyal customer (loyalty pays!)), he said he himself would procure the new heater and install it before noon. True to his word, he showed up (with a helper) around 11:45 with the new heater. The two of them worked efficiently and with excellent attention to detail and were finished in around 90 minutes. This despite the fact that they had to do a fair amount of new plumbing to bring the connections between the new water heater and my house's water system up to the standards required by current building codes. The new heater and pressure valve worked perfectly and there were zero leaks! I should also mention that both of them took great care to protect my carpets (laid down cloths and used booties) and were very careful to not bump into walls, etc. They also thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. In my view, the combination of an extremely quick response, superb quality of service, and superior quality replacement heater were well worth the cost! Highly recommend!

I had a service do an A/C tune up in late May but for whatever reason, I think it was a total waste. All of the connections that supposedly were tightened were loose in less than 2 months, the freon that was supposed to have been fine was over a pound low, the capacitor went out. On the two hottest days this summer the A/C went out. Home Heating came out the very next day after I called them. Carlos found the problem quickly, fixed it, and kept me in the know of what he was doing. He didn't leave until the cooling was to his satisfaction. I was very impressed. He explained everything to me.
Description of Work: Replaced capacitor, tightened all connections, recharged the freon, and made sure I had good cold air conditioning.

During our Bi Annual inspection Scott noticed our hot water heater was leaking. He immediately informed us gave us a great price and was able to set up replacement for the next day. The next day technicians showed up to install the water heater on time and with all materials necessary. They put down protective coverings on the floor got the unit prepared and completed the job in no time. The next day the inspector showed up and said the work was done great and was happy that Home Heating ensure we had working and up to date carbon monoxide detectors located in the sleeping areas of the house. Scott Maintains all of our systems to include HE Particulate filters, UV Lights and Humidifier systems we had Home Heating install about 3 years ago. This was a great investment as the dust, odors and humidity issues (lack of) were all taken care of.

I sought three bids from top rated Angie's List providers. Home Heating Service, Inc. was very responsive, scheduled a convenient appointment for reviewing our requirements, presented a significantly lower bid than the others, scheduled the installation to fit my schedule in coordination with my electrician, showed up on time, completed the work in a timely, professional manner and left a clean work site when they were done. The unit works perfectly and solved a cooling problem in a master bedroom with 17 ft. ceilings that had plauged us for years. They registered the product for me and followed up to see if I was happy with the work. They did everything well and I would recommend them to a friend or neighbor without hesitation.

The sales manager was very polite and attentive to our needs. He took measurements within our house to determine what size furnace we needed. Home Heating just completed a complete overhaul of our home environmental systems. I am very pleased with the result. Such a large project was expensive, and we approached it with some trepidation. Their Sales Manager, Derrick Rose, worked patiently with us while we explored equipment options and settled on a final configuration. His explanations regarding the pros and cons of various equipment choices were knowledgeable and down-to-earth. Not too much tech, but enough when we wanted it. And Derrick even made a last minute upgrade to one of the pieces of equipment (at no charge to us) to make sure the entire integrated system reached its full potential. Their installation crew was a pleasure to work with and did an excellent job. They tolerated my many questions and suggestions with good humor and sincere interest, accommodating my requests where they could. The installation included some difficult venting through a crawlspace, which they accomplished with results that exceeded my expectations. They worked quite hard for 3 days, and were respectful of my home and its contents. The installation is not only competent, but it has nice finishing touches; copper piping where flex tubing might have worked, clamps securing all pipes and wires beyond the minimum, etc. Of course, the installation passed the regional building inspections with no trouble. We have used Home Heating to service our old equipment for over 15 years, and have always been satisfied customers. We are glad we chose them for our renovation project.

Workers spent all day here. They stayed until the job was done which was about 6:30pm that night. It was not the most straight forward job so we appreciated the extra effort. We feel very comfortable with the quality of work they performed.

Mr. [removed member name] This is in response to your review of our services that we provided for you. We must admit to being puzzled, as well as deeply concerned, by the severity of your grades. As you did not specify or communicate to us the address of the property that we were at we can only assume it was a condo on Palmer Park Blvd. On 11/25/14 we did go and replace a zone valve on the boiler system. We could not find any other property in our records that belonged to you that came close to the circumstances that you reported. The work order that was created by our Customer Service Representative reported an issue with the heating system. It specified a time of arrival as PM which implies anytime in the afternoon was acceptable. It also instructed the technician to call you with a diagnosis and cost of repairs prior to performing any work. The cost of the service call was $85.00 and would cover the travel time and our standard diagnosis. This was apparently acceptable to you as we were instructed to proceed with the call. The technician arrived at approximately 1:38 PM. This time is recorded via our technicians GPS time tracking application installed on their cell phones. They record the time of arrival and time of departure and the GPS records the locations at the time of the events. He clocked out of the job at 3:22 showing a time of 1 3/4 hours dedicated to the job. Some of the time was spent obtaining the zone valve from a supply house. As the invoice was paid with a credit card we can assume that the technician, who has confirmed this, obtained approval from you to proceed with the repair, the cost being $320.00. This computerized flat rate price reflects the cost of the part, travel time to obtain it as it is not a stock item, a calculated percentage of business overhead, installation cost and hopefully a nickel of profit. The repair was made, the heating was back in service and as far as we know no other problems or issues associated with our service have occurred. In summary from the records and data we have on file, we were responsive to your needs and the needs of your tenant, we were punctual as we arrived and performed the required service within the specified time frame and we were professional as we diagnosed and solved the problem without issue. If price was an issue, we would happily have explained our pricing structure and how our flat rate prices are determined had you contacted us. We are sure that a resolution could have been found if we were given the chance. As we have had no direct communication from you now or at the time of service and because of the summary of the events and our data, we consider this review unjustified and ask that you reconsider your grades and adjust accordingly. The woman on the phone was very polite. Appointment was scheduled for the next morning. I gave my husband a list of three "A' rated companies and he chose this one primarily because their name included "heating" so he figured they would know what they were doing. We had a 9:00-10:00 appt. window and he showed up at 9:00 sharp. Max was professional and got the job done in about 20-30 minutes. Although we did not know what was wrong with it when we called, it ended up just needing to be cleaned (the unit is old and needs to be replaced, but we didn't want to do that right now). The service and quality of work was great. The only issue I have, and the reason I gave the service a 'B' instead of an 'A' is that of the other companies on the list of 3 that my husband chose from, one advertised a tune up for $55 and one had service for $79.95 (these were the Angie's List coupons). Home heating Service had a coupon for 10% off. Well, the charge to show up was $85, and the charge to do the work was an additional $15.00. We set up an appointment to have our annual fall furnace inspection done; as we have done the past several years with Home Heating Service. When I called I was told they would be at my home for the furnace inspection between 2-4 P.M. on Oct. 17th. I set up time in my schedule to be at home for the inspection at the agreed upon time. At 3:30 P.M. on the day of the inspection, I received a call from the Home Heating tech who said he would be to my house in about 25 minutes. I said this was very late and asked him how long the service would take since I had other commitments that day. He said about 45 minutes or more! I told him that was unacceptable since I had other plans. He asked if I would like to speak to the owner and I said I would. I then called and spoke to Kyle; the owner, and expressed my displeasure with his company not being able to arrive and service my furnace in the two hour time schedule I had been told to be at my home. He made the excuse that the two hour time period was only for the arrival of the tech and then time would be needed to service the furnace! I was greatly upset to hear it was my fault for not allowing enough time for this service! Two hours is not enough; they need more like three to do the service! I don't feel this is acceptable service from a company and I don't feel Kyle took the complaint very seriously! I have now set up service with another company who has promised a tech to show up within a scheduled one hour time period. Yes, I found the new service on Angie's list. UPDATE: This is in regard to my earlier review of Home Heating service that I rated as a D effort. I have since had a conversation with Mr. Gately regarding the service from his company and while I will still not use his services going forward, I do feel he made a genuine effort to keep me as a customer. I just feel that my time has a value and a three hour window for service is not acceptable. I would now give Home Heating a C rating for my experience since my Gately did make an effort to keep my business.

We do our best to be sure that arrival times and service times are communicated to our customers clearly. This was obviously not successfully done in your case and for that we apologize. I, Kyle Gateley, also apologize for implying that I wasn’t concerned about the situation. We take our customer service skills very seriously and these standards are passed along all levels of this company. We do handle hundreds of calls a day along with doing our best to keep a dozen field personnel handling 50 to 70 appointments a day on time and on schedule. Unfortunately we fall short some times and hope that our customers are patient and understanding. On another note there was a mix-up internally in the office as to your address. The customer service representative who made your appointment misunderstood the address you gave her and perceived you to be a new customer. Obviously this was not the case as you have been a long time loyal customer and a member of our Comfort Club. As a member you had prepaid for a maintenance visit which was scheduled for this November. We have sent a refund of what you had paid for the renewal last fall. If you would like to continue your membership in our Comfort Club and take advantage of the prepaid visit please hold on to the check, call us to schedule an appointment (and we will be sure to meet your expectations this time) and give the check back to the technician at the time of his visit. It went very well. The two employees arrived on time and were very nice. They laid down plastic on my floor where they were going to be walking in and out so that they didn't scratch or mess up my floors. They were professional and quiet and let me leave while the service was being provided, which took approximately 4 hours. When they were close to being finished, they gave me a call so I could come back to pay. Before they left, they helped me figure out and set my new thermostat and gave me all needed information, including when to change my air filters, etc... Very pleased!

I received several bids from other contractors listed on Angie's list, and Home Heating Service came in near the top, but the representative that came out to my house (Derrick) seemed to be the most knowledgeable. He measured the square footage and exterior doors/windows, then made some calculations to ensure he presented me the optimal sized units necessary. Other contractors just based my supposed needs off whatever unit was already in the house, or the biggest unit they had available. I liked the way Derrick came up with three offers that could fit any budget (good, better, best). In the end I went with the best option and am glad I did! The installers came by and did an excellent job removing the old equipment (to include an extra water heater that happened to be in the utility room) and installing the new stuff. They tested everything out and cleaned up before they left. When the city inspectors came by, they were both very impressed with the installation. The mechanical inspector remarked that the connections and seals were done very well. Passed both inspections with no problems. Not sure yet how useful the wifi enabled thermostat will be, but it is kind of a novelty to show my friends the app on my iPhone. And it is nice being able to control the temp from anywhere in the house or even while away if I forgot to turn it down. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but I'm enjoying every minute of having a modern, high efficiency HVAC system. Definitely recommend Home Heating Service to anyone looking to upgrade their HVAC.

here when he said he would be, knew immediately what the problem was, had part available on the spot, friendly, performed the task quickly and efficiently, gave us a discount, checked the furnace while here. He could have told us we needed a costly repair, but didn't, charged only the minimal.
