Good couldn't have gone better. Crews arrived as scheduled, did excellent work, and entirely cleaned up the mess. When I arrived to check things out after the job was done there was nothing to cleanup and the work was flawless. John was very helpful in assisting with the stain choice, keeping me updated on job progress, and following up after the work was completed. I will use them again for any work needs.

Proceed at your own risk using this company: I contracted New Horizons to install about 1,700 sq. ft. of flooring in a home I just purchased. The initial price quote was very high compared to others, but since they were a referral I decided to work with them on the price and even agreed to pay more than others quoted me, but got them to reduce the price a little from the original quote. That proved to be a real irritation and the owner John used the revised quote as a battering ram on me anytime I had any questions about the job. I agreed to a $21,000 project! By comparison to the other reviews on this site, it seems my job was about 3 times their normal job size - big mistake. Because I wanted them to get the job done, I left the home vacant and made clear that I was waiting to move in until they and the painters could finish, and to please coordinate with the paint contractor on common access. I had a four week window to work with before furniture arrived. Well, it started off on the wrong foot when after agreeing they could work with the painter at the same time and I agreed to the contract, they decided otherwise. So they had sole access to the home and the painter was sidelined waiting for them to finish (they tied up my home for 26 days). Then John the owner made matters exponentially worse by the way he handled matters from there on out. You want to be able to call the owner and share a concern, but when I asked questions, I was called unreasonable or he would go into a convoluted long winded explanation that was overkill and clearly meant to make me feel like his team were bending over backwards, when they weren't. They were normal customer questions. When I asked about schedule reminding him of my timelines and why his crew didn't show up some days, there were illness excuses, or he will be there later in the day excuses (but didn't show), and in the beginning when I offered weekend access so they could catch up they declined saying they would get it done and I didn't need to worry. So what do you do when you realize mid-stream that they don't really care about your job and they have your home torn apart? I came home one night to find my front storm door propped open, they had jammed it open to the point it wouldn't close so I fixed it. Next night, same thing. I asked them to be careful. I then got a lecture from John about how my door must be broken. Well it isn't, they were hyperextending the door to jam it open. Next night, same thing. I just took care of it and didn't say anything. Over that weekend I go to use my clothes dryer and it won't work. After flipping breakers and thinking it must have been faulty, I crawled behind to find they had unplugged it and had an extension cord plugged in for their equipment, so I asked John to please make sure his crew plugged back in my dryer if they unplugged it. Then I got a lecture on how it probably wasn't them, and it must have been me, so I drew the line. Well it then turned into a major issue that I didn't ask for but John wanted to make me feel like I was being excessive asking them to just be courteous. John made it into a drama by calling the worker on the weekend then going back and forth between texts and calls to me which was complete overkill and I finally just said forget it. I just want your guy to plug back in my dryer. Then the floors are finally installed and they stain and seal. Well, I can see there are areas that don't look right. Some white cracks where the wood didn't accept stain. The landing has large sanding swirl marks in it. One stair is clearly not sanded because it still has mill marks in the wood and I get a lecture that this is all the nature of the wood, that it is the dark stain that makes it come out....well, they are mill marks going across the grain in even spaced lines and clearly it was just something they missed when sanding. He didn't like the stain color I selected and told me over and over it wasn't what he would choose and then offered backhanded compliments after denigrating my choice....and of course it was the stain color that was the culprit. All I wanted was the inconsistencies fixed, you would have thought I was asking for the world! He said they needed to come in Saturday morning and I said fine, I needed it done. They show up hours later than they said they would, worked for just a couple hours or less and left. Then John asked for Sunday access to finish details, fix blemishes,, etc... I'm thinking great, come on in! They don't show. Monday they say they will finish trim so painters can get going. Well then its Monday night and they need one more day. Tuesday they say they are done and want final payment. Extremely pushy!! Send me payment tonight he says. What is the rush? After inspecting the job I see there are trim issues and I have pictures I send to him. I said I would pay the majority of the remaining bill and hold back $2,000 until they finish the job. This put John into a tizzy and he laid into me about how that was unreasonable, that it should be $200, that it wasn't their fault, etc.... on and on. I'd had it. I couldn't get a word in edgewise and got lecture after lecture from John about how I wasn't communicating with him. That he wasn't being heard. Really? I couldn't believe this was a business owner. I was sick of them and wanted them out of my home. I called my painter, had him look at the trim issues, agreed that he would fix it instead of waiting or dealing with John and his crew anymore. So I told John I would take care of it and I paid him to get him out of my home! The other review I read where he threatened to sue the customer when they clearly messed up the job should have told me everything I needed to know. He basically slammed the other customer who complained in their review and I completely expect he will slam me too. I paid them $21,000 for a job and you would think by the way he treated me they were doing me a favor to even work on my place! Then to boot after all is done he has the gaul to say, we are just two personalities who don't get along. There is no price break in the world deep enough to ever incentivize me to work with them again.

Response from NEW HORIZONS FLOORING COMPANY
Thankfully there are two sides to every story. We had difficulty in communicating with Mr. [Member Name Removed] - we found him to be difficult to deal with. We had stated that we needed 3 weeks and we were done in 15 days. We had told the painter he could work in the home while the wood acclimated for a week and also work in there the first week of wood installation. The painter elected to work one day during acclimation. We have no control over other trades and their scheduling. In a span of 8 years we have 2 customers that don’t have good things to say about us compared to the hundreds who have been extremely satisfied – this in itself says a lot about our company and the lengths we go to in order to care for our customers’ needs and their homes. We have been in business since 1997 and only having a couple bad reviews speaks for itself. If anyone who reads this is considering us we would be more than happy to discuss these matters or anything else – Thank you, John Kramer, Owner

They got back to us quickly, advised us wisely, quoted us honestly, arrived promptly, worked professionally and were courteous and mindful the entire time. We would be hard pressed to be any happier with their service and will (have) recommend them to anyone we know. We will definitely call them again in a few years when it's time to reseal.

It went fabulous! From the minute we contacted them to the completed service, New Horizons Flooring was great. John came out and measured and the next day we had our estimate. I think to be a very fair price. They always kept us well informed of next steps in the process. Always on time. John, James, Alex, Amy - all very personable in our communications and professional. All very respectful and patient as we made our selection of the right stain. For us, this was a big purchase, somewhat of a luxury item - and we felt in very good hands the entire time. The floors, they are absolutely beautiful! The product and the customer care made this an awesome experience. I would absolutely recommend them; and I'm so glad others on Angie's list did as well - after all, that's how I discovered and decided to select this company. We're just getting started with our remodel endeavors - and am truly excited about the fact that we'll be contacting New Horizons Flooring soon for more flooring and tile work.

I had no idea how tough it was to live through a wood floor installation. It was worth every difficulty. The floor is beautiful!! John and his crew did an incredible job. I can be very picky, but I had no idea how perfect a true professional could be at cutting planks. The cuts are precise and the floor looks amazing. They sanded the fourteen year old hardwood to bare wood and there is no difference in between the finishes of the two floors. One section of the old wood floor chipped and the crew attempted to patch it with compound. It was very noticable. When I contacted John, he said the crew had already advised him of the issue and her personally came out to repair the board. Since it didn't meet with his high level of expectation, he replaced the board after hours of painstaking work. I can't imagine how tough it was to replace one board in the middle of a hardwood floor. I also have pets and asked that a sealer be used before the hardwood was laid. When the carpet was pulled, it was clear that it needed additional areas prepped that I was unaware of. They covered it all without me even asking. I highly recommend the professionals at New Horizon's Flooring and have them in my contact list for my next project, which will be tile.

We had a very good experience with them. They did a good job and the price was reasonable. We were on vacation when it was done, but it was done in the time frame that we expected. Everything was also cleaned up when we came back. We just had them out again for another estimate to do the upstairs.

They were very professional in getting back to us quickly. We probably called five or six companies and then only two got back to us and then they gave us the bid within a week, the other one took several weeks so we were just impressed with their promptness. I would recommend them. I would use them again.

The company uses sub-contractors and the work went well. Toward the end they were in a hurry (it was around Thanksgiving) and the areas around the baseboards required cleaning after they were gone. The floor base was gyp-crete and dust was everywhere when the carpet was removed and not very well controlled. We had to call in a house cleaning service afterward to clean from ceiling to floor, bookcases, blinds, etc. This is one of those experiences where one learns a lot from doing it the first time and this was our first time. Next time we'll be much more careful about controlling dust and we'll insist on cleaning the floor very well before paying the bill. The pictures give an idea of the dust problem and the dark floor makes it more obvious. But this is a good company and the low bidder and we would use them again.

The install went very well. The installer was sick for a few days during the week and his work fell behind. He requested to work on the weekend and we granted it. They stained the floor a dark color and there were huge dark streaks running perpendicular to the grain of the wood. There were other large areas that were darker than others, mostly near the walls. They sanded and stained it again, yet it was still there and had not diminished at all. I was patient. I let them sand and stain it again and it did not improve. They blamed their equipment for being out of tune and used the same excuse three times! I was fed up and wanted to pay them for the wood and install and find someone competent. John Kramer threatened to sue me under Colorado law for not giving him the opportunity to fix their mistakes. I had already given them three tries! Why would I think they would rectify it the fourth time. My wife wanted to have the floor complete before the holidays and gave them a final chance and they agreed to accept half price if it was not up to industry standards and our satisfaction. They tried a final time, failed and admitted it was an abject failure. We paid half. We had several contractors give us a quote to stain and sand their failure and they all said New Horizons botched the job. A specialist in claims for construction law assessed the floor and said the floor did not meet industry standards The made a huge mess with stain covering the baseboard. I understand some stain, but it was as if they were trying to stain the baseboard and not the floor. Stain was also all over the walls at hip level. They even damaged the corner bead of one wall While the job was in progress, John Kramer turned the heat up to 72F and left the doors open in December. I asked the installer and he said it had nothing to do with drying out the wood and seemed embarrassed. This is a lack of respect for my home and I have a $240 heating bill as a result. I don't care that I paid half because it was not about the money. It was a total fiasco that consumed valuable time during the holidays. It took an extra 10 days from the estimated completion date to find out they could not complete the job. We had company visiting and we were put behind schedule and were literally cleaning everything their mess as company was walking in the door. Now we still have to move out all our furniture and have someone sand and stain it all over again. We may save $500 for our trouble. Beware that John Kramer will try to suck you in by telling you that he is a family guy that owns a family company and make you feel guilty for not hiring him. He will tell you that he his honest and candid and will work with you through difficulties. None of this matters because they do not do what they agree to do and will threaten to sue if you do not allow them to rectify their mistakes. I do not recommend that anyone use New Horizons as they are incompetent, inept and impotent
Description of Work: I entered into a contract with New Horizons Flooring to install approximately 800 square feet of 2-1/4 #1 Red Oak in the first floor, install hardwood treads and birch risers on the stairs, and install 150 square feet in the hallway on the second floor. They also were to lace the new wood into the existing wood in the kitchen and to sand the existing wood flush with the new wood. Then they were to stain and apply two coats of water-based polyurethane.

Response from NEW HORIZONS FLOORING COMPANY
I admit, we did have some difficulty. After the problems we determined that both of our machines were leaving chatter on the floor, causing problems also on the third try, there was no fourth try. We believe the floors look really good. I believe that at this point, due to homeowner frustration, we could not please them despite our efforts to do so. I made a deal with them on the third try that if we did not get it right, we would settle for 1/2 of the job cost. We believe money was the factor of homeowners final decision. That being said, we take responsibility for our error. In response to various other complaints: No base was installed on walls. We did not get stain all over everything. The heat was turned up because homeowner turned it down to 60 degrees on a cold day. We turned it up and could not get it to turn back down. The job was done only 2 days after the original estimate of job completion, not 10. Contracts are always signed long before a job starts. Also, w e did not threaten to sue them. They wanted us to just walk away and I simply pointed out that they must give us a chance to fix the problem and made a deal for half. Damage to corner bead was already existing before we started the project. I would like to point out to all that are reading this, please look at our record for the past 12 years of business. This homeowner has complained about us after we settled all issues with them in a respectful and dignified manner, even with us putting an extra coat of finish on their floor to protect it during Christmas. As I have said, we believe the floors looked good. I believe deep down that the homeowner took all of this personal and that, in the end, it was just all about the money to them. Please consider our past record and understand that no matter what you do, sometimes you just cannot please everyone. I would be happy to discuss things in more detail, just give me a call. The experience was good except for when they gave us the estimate they didn't have any flooring samples with them. They did come out on time to give the estimate and they were courteous and kind. We went and got the samples and brought them back here and laid them on the floor. When the guy who did the estimate called back, we told him that we were having trouble with the samples and he offered to bring us three more. He did that today and we are still thinking about hiring them.

The owner, John, and his employees were extremely professional and helpful throughout the entire process. We were living 2,500 miles away during the whole bidding process and the work itself (on our newly purchased house, before we moved in), and John took the time to explain everything very thoroughly and gave us regular phone updates. The bid was detailed and fast, and very reasonable compared to another bid we received, and they went out of their way to accommodate our schedule. When it turned out that one component had been mistakenly left off the bid, John called to apologize, and offered to charge us only 50% of the materials for that component, and nothing for the labor. During the project, one of the men accidentally caused some damage, and again, John called immediately to explain, and said he would make sure everything was fixed, which he did. They did such a good job of fixing the damage that we would never even have known it had occurred. Both the refinished floors and the new ones look beautiful, and they were able to get both floors looking practically identical in color and tone. There was one door that wouldn't close all the way because our floors are uneven, and John sent a guy out to fix the door for us, at no charge. I recommend New Horizons without any hesitation.

We received a bid at the same time that they visited (we didn't need to wait a few days). We discussed a schedule and they met it with no problems. When finished the floor looked excellent. There were no gaps between the boards or near cabinet/wall edges. Compared to hardwood flooring we had done in the past, this job was superior.
Description of Work: New Horizons installed red oak, hardwood flooring on our first floor ( 800 sq ft). This included installation, sanding, sealing and two coats of finish. They also installed flush-mount floor vents.
