It went horrible. See above. Avoid this contractor.
Description of Work: Tim Peters started work before presenting me with a written contract, which should have been the first red flag. He also started work on my project without obtaining the appropriate permits from the county (even though he told me the inspector had been by and approved everything), which should have been the second red flag. He "worked" for 4 weeks (although I didn't hear from him for 2 out of the 4 weeks,) as I repeatedly asked for an invoice so that I could monitor how much we were spending on the project. He finally presented a shady invoice after 4 weeks, which included an attempt to extort an additional contractor's fee based on something that he mentioned during our initial conversation. I told him that I was more than happy to pay for labor, materials, and a generous contractor fee of 20% on top of the project (which he thought was an insult.) When I refused to pay his extraordinary demand of an extra contractor fee (additional $2000 A WEEK! <-- who would ever agree to this) he became belligerant and used threatening acts and language. He pulled a childish stunt by reporting my property to the county which had no record of a work permit (which he should have secured had he been a responsible contractor that thought he deserved $2000 a week.) Anyhow, I scoffed at his threats, as did my lawyer. In the end, he took a month to demo out a 1600 square foot cabin, which I could have razed for much less than I paid this guy. I sucked it up and overpaid this scam artist so that I could move on with my project. I would avoid using this contractor unless you like a fast talker who doesn't do anything by the book - no contracts, no permits, no honesty, and no personality. He's a very poor communicator. I'm biting my tongue on some other things that I could say/write.

Disastrous! Do not trust this builder. If you choose to use him, be sure to get building permits and sub-contracts in your name. Also, make sure the contractor takes notes and all parties should sign any change orders. Our trouble began about 6 weeks into construction when we arrived to find an 8 foot deck where there should have been a 12 foot deck based on our conversations with the builder during plan review. Needless to say, every change became a major ordeal and we finally ended the builder's contract after the originally agreed upon timeframe. This was after he tried to extort an additional contractor's fee from us for his supposed time overages. (The project was still on pace for finishing within the original timeframe.) To put it mildly, this builder became more and more belligerent every day the project continued and the work of the crew ceased to be of top quality. The day the contract ended, a Friday, the builder stole the building permit, locked the temporary electrical service box and walked into our bank demanding to be paid with a cashier's check after we had already mailed him a check from the construction account. He had implied the day before that his work was done and that he would not be on the work site. We mailed the check so we wouldn't have to chase him down and interact with him again. The following Monday, we learned that the builder had canceled the building permit and was calling sub-contractors telling them not to do any work. This included one with which we had contracted ourselves for propane gas service. To top it all off, the builder made my husband witness a cash transaction for the drywall hangers, who did not speak a word of English. It is very apparent that this was employment of undocumented workers. This man's business motto is "higher standards create higher quality." Too bad general contractors are unregulated in the state of Colorado as this is an absolute misrepresentation of his business character and integrity.
