American Vision Windows

They did a really good job, they cleaned up and came back when we had a problem with one of the windows. I would use them again in the future if I needed to.

The representative that came to my house was not prepared and very scattered. He blamed me for not have a parking spot in front of the house for him. He did not have samples and told me it was because I was different than most people, although I know that is not true - I was seeking to replace 12 standard windows. In conversation kept having to ask him to focus on talking about the windows because he would stray in conversation. Most importantly, after an hour meeting, he never got back to me with an estimate. I had high hopes for American Vision because of their variety in options and the length of time they have been in business but I was highly disappointed that they never followed up and I never got an estimate.

There was mold in the window track with paint over the mold. They removed the mold and took care of it for me. They did everything. The work looks beautiful. They upgraded the windows to triple pane at a double pane price. They did not charge me for the installation. They also stored the windows for two months. They are not the cheapest but the quality of the work is excellent.

They did such a good job that my neighbors hired them. We have been pleased with their service. Their product is excellent. It will not yellow or crack over the years. However, I did feel uneasy when the workers were standing around. One of the men read the things on my refrigerator. I did not appreciate that. They also have a lot of different people work with you throughout the process.I think it would lower the cost if you dealt with one person. Overall, I am pleased.

The service was perfect. From the sales person who came to talk with us, to every single one of the laborers who replaced the windows. They were all aware of what was going on. They were all very kind and professional. I have nothing but good things to say about their service. The windows are holding the cool air in a lot better than the previous windows. It is a good product and they did a good job.

SUMMARY: The actual window product manufactured by Anlin is great - everything else from installation to permit knowledge to accuracy of the contract to the quality of the finishes to the stucco work were terrible. I needed to micro-manage everything. You really need to do your homework before hiring a window company and spending $14,000. And I would suggest taking days off of work to watch them so that you won't need them to come back again to fix what they did incorrectly the first time. Read on if you want everything... QUALITY 1. WINDOWS - The windows themselves are great, manufactured by Anlin. They have with blocking out the sound of nearby traffic and controlling the temperature, especially the heat in several west-facing rooms. 2. FRAME - Many pieces of the frames were not sanded down prior to installation, leaving incredibly rough surfaces. There were also pieces that had dings and dug out surfaces the size of a pencil eraser. And there were dried paint blobs and lots of black smudges. In one window frame alone, I counted 30+ imperfections. After I complained, AVW came back to fix it. They said they were remedying this so I'd be happy, not because they were obligated to have frames without holes, scratches or paint drippings! They ended up sanding and repainting all the casings. I was pleased with the fix. 3. FRAME (again) - The framing, installed by AVW, have already had some problems when I installed a 42" curtain tension rod. Within 1 week of installing the tension rod, the joint where the casings are joined in the corner already separated. AVW came out - they basically squirted silicon in there; it's already separated AGAIN. 4. STUCCO - The 1st crew that came out to do the stucco on the new construction windows did such a poor job of color matching with our original house paint color, our neighbors kept asking us if thee stucco was still wet weeks after it had been completed because It was so dark compared to the rest of the house! AVW eventually sent a 2nd crew to come out to redo the stucco. I was again told by the project manager that our contract specified our job to only be 'paint ready', which seems to mean AVW has no obligation to match the stucco color. Even remotely. They told me they were redoing it because they wanted me to bea happy customer. Not because the paint that was 10 shades darker and was hideous. I think it would have been professional courtesy for the sales person to tell me what 'paint ready' specifies when we signed the contract. It feels like it was a sneaky way to let them have lots of leeway on the final product. I guess AVW expects their customers to repaint their houses after they've done a terrible job on the stucco. DETAILS 5. The contract forgot to include the kitchen window, even though it was in the original quote. It wasn't noticed by anyone, including myself, until after they had completed the 1st phase of the installation. AVW had to send someone out to remeasure it AGAIN, and we had to schedule it out another 4 weeks. NEATNESS 6. Did not cover exposed windows opening with plastic covering when it was raining. Stucco was open and wall space was open to the elements. Had to call them back to put up tarp. 7. They covered the kitchen area and hardwood floors well with plastic to minimize the dust. The bedrooms were less covered so there was a fine dust on most everything. KNOWLEDGE 8. Didn't know about the egress laws for 2nd floor windows. I learned about that myself while at the LA buildling permit office. Either they aren't knowledgeable or never obtain permits for their window work because I can't imagine I'm the first person with a 2nd story window with egress violations. 9. Did not calculate the egress correctly the first time, so my initial quote of window replacement went from about $11,000 to $14,000 because of the required new construction. COURTEOUSNESS 10. Armen, the sales rep, was always very courteous, from the sales pitch to the follow-ups. 11. One installer denied ever speaking to me a couple weeks prior, but when I asked his name, I called him out on it, and the agreed that it was in fact he who I had spoken with. Denying responsibilities? To his credit, he did help me with finishing the window casings properly. TIMELINESS 12. Installation started at the end of January 2013. We had a total of 14 windows, 2 of which required new construction. It wasn't finally completed until April 2013. I've never installed windows so I don't know if this is normal or not. But I do know a 2nd construction crew to come back out because they forgot to include my kitchen window in the contract after they did the quote. RESPONSE 13. receipt - It took 3 emails and a phone call over the course of 3 weeks before they sent me the final receipt. And not until I mentioned my pending Angie's list and Yelp reviews. Then and only then did they email and snail mail 2 copies. 3 weeks?!?! Really. I have better things to do with my time then follow-up on a receipt.

Initial sales visit was higher pressure than we are comfortable with. We spent more than planned / more than other quotes, but got higher quality product. Installation was done in one day. Framing was very well done; windows and doors operate flawlessly, square & watertight. We have been through a couple of storms with simultaneous high wind & heavy rain which proved out the waterproofing. Only complaint on the installation is inadequate protection of the concrete paver walkway curing re-stucco - stucco splats on the walkway.

They did an excellent job of windows and shutters for us! They met our expectations. Their pricing was fair.

We were very satisfied with their service. The person that they sent out was very helpful and polite. They ordered exactly what we needed. They did a great job and we had no problems with them.

They were very good. Their price was competitive. The installation crew were really impressive. It was very efficient and they did a really good job. I had a little bit of a problem with one of the door locks and I called them about it and they said that they'll be there and they were there. It was just a minor deal. I could have done it myself but they came and did it. I was glad for that. If I had to, I would use them again.

From the initial visit for the estimate to the final cleanup, the experience was flawless.

It was wonderful. The workers were fantastic, very professional. Work was done on time.

Armen the salesguy came over and gave us a very competitive bid and showed us samples of his product, walked through some design issues we were having, and helped us work out a payment scheme. We had just purchased the house and the old windows were in terrible condition so we wanted to replace them all ASAP even though it would be a good bit of money, we ended up being able to partially finance the project interest free for 18 months. He made us feel comfortable and while we did research the competition there was no one else we seriously considered working with. Windows were ordered and six weeks later they came to install. The team was great, all the retrofits were done in a day (six windows), the new windows took a couple days longer because there was some extensive demo to do. The finished product is wonderful and the workmanship all looks great. They were polite, clean, and Tim the construction foreman was able to solve some un-forseen problems on the fly. I believe total construction took about a week and a half (they had to remove three walls and install re-enforcements to install 3 new sliders). We are in love with our new windows, both how they look and how the perform. I give this company the highest recommendation.

It was fine, I like them very much. It went very well but their bid was a little bit high. They were very professional and responsive. They seem to be a very competent group.

For all the reasons stated above I chose another contractor.

We were very pleased with our windows from American Vision Windows. We also ordered Norman plantation shutters. We didn't receive the emails stating our order was in progress as we did with the windows, but they arrived in approximately the 2 month time frame. Our installer and measurer, Efrain Nieves, was a perfectionist, and worked from 10 AM to 8PM to install the shutters. They were absolutely perfect! He had to remove our existing molding and we didn't have to repaint anywhere. His assistant vacuumed the residue. We are very happy with the quality of the shutters and the elegant molding detail which surrounds them.

The individual that came out, the estimator was really forthright, explained things well and didn’t pull any strings that the other people were pulling when doing estimates. In the actual installation phase, they sent out seven people, took out twelve windows, and took out two sliding doors. They were all very polite and mannerly and our answered questions. Their quality insurance individual came out to inspect the job. We are very pleased with the Anlin windows that they put in, they are triple pane windows and the sliding doors are gorgeous. All in all, it was a very good experience with them.

5/30/13: Salesman called and said he would be 15 minutes late for appointment, met that timeframe. He was knowledgeable, personable and professional. He gave me several brand choices, I went with Anlin. 6/4/13: Production measurement. About 40 minutes after the appointment time I was called by the office and told he was running late and should arrive in about 20 minutes. He arrived about 40 minutes later but did a quick and complete job taking measurements and pictures for the installation crew. 6/8/13: Lead paint inspector was on time and completed a non-destructive test in short order. 7/15/13: The installation crew arrived at 8:20am, well within the 8:00 - 9:00 window. They did an excellent job, they covered stuff as necessary for protection and used drop cloths to make cleanup easier. They vacuumed when they finished and even touched up the inevitable paint flaking. I found only 1 small metal scrap (1" x 1") and 2 foam squares (window transport protection) after they left. The job was completed at 3:10pm, the estimate I was given when making the appointment was 3:30pm - 4:00pm. I am pleased and impressed by the installation crew. The finished product looks excellent and has a lifetime warranty. The Anlin windows are low-e and the decrease in glare compared to the 20 year old 1st generation low-e is noticeable.

a year later we have no complaints

The person that came to the house to get quotes was great and willing to negotiate. The price was very competitive and of the three quotes I got I felt most comfortable with american vision. The installers did a great job although I was a little concerned the windows weren't going to fit. In the end they made it work and I love my new windows.

They showed up with three crews as this was a big job. Five large sliders, 8 windows. They removed everything, and installed the new windows and doors. They also installed molding around the inside of the sliders, ready for paint. I was amazed that they were so detailed. Everything was perfect!

It was not a good experience. The sales person sold us everything we wanted. They measured wrong and reaplced it with a door that is too small. It is still heavy and doesn't slide well which was the issue with the old door. The salesman said they would could just use our old screen guard with it vs. buying new. With the new door being smaller the old screen guard doesn't work with the new screen. The bay window came in totally different than waht I had ordered. So I did notlet them install it since it was not what I had wanted. I told him that I want one like the neighbors but the one I got from them was not correct, and looked awkward. I have been trying to get them to refund me the difference since they did not do the bay window. The person there I have been in touch with has been giving me the run around. He has cancelled our follow up appointment, and today I call and he has not returned my call. Today the receptionist told me the he has told her that refunding me is not an option. He said we would call it even at best. They are very focused on the customer service, but through the process they kept sending me videos by Bill and Kathleen the owners, but when the guy came he did not have the information the video said he would have.

Overall it was a great experience. It was already stressful but we felt like we were in the hands of professionals. They walked us through the process and it was they described.

I have waited a year to write this review but I should have written it sooner because I want other people to have the same experience as me. I signed up for Angies list in order to find a window company. I had 4 other estimates besides American Vision Windows. From the moment Jack from American Vision windows(AVW) came into my home I could tell the difference in their company. Jack was prepared and had samples and the ability to demonstrate the effiency of their product . He demonstrated with a heat lamp the ability of the Anlin windows to block out the heat.They have the noise reduction as well. The mechanisms and quality of the product were superior to the other products I was shown by previous companies. Then he told me about the lifetime warranty. Are you kidding me if a window breaks for ANY REASON the window will be replaced. No one offered this warranty. The screens have a microban product and are easy to remove and clean. The estimate was given that day and it was $4000.00 to $7000.00 less than my previous estimates. The professionalism and quality of the others did not even compare. Someone came a week later to do a very precise measurement of my windows so my order could be placed and made at the Anlin company not only in the USA but, in California. The day of installation the crew of 6 or 7 guys promptly showed up and were ready to go. They definitely new what they were doing and had a streamlined process for the installation. The windows were in by 6:00 PM and the no mess anywhere. I truely love my windows. It has been a year and I am extremly satisfied. I did call the company because the sealant on the slider turned yellow and they came out immediately and added a cover over the edge. It looks perfect. If it is over 90 outside it is 70's inside. I work nights so now when I sleep in the day I hear no dogs or any other outside noise. My husband can even mow and it doesn't distrub me. I want to thank JACK for introducing me to this fine product. My brother and his wife called AVW and Jack serviced them with the same professionalism. Now another brother just had Jack from AVW out and decided to use AVW after serval other estimates from various companies. He will be getting his windows in a couple of weeks.
