Paul came highly recommended by one of my friends who has an emasculate house and is very demanding. That is why and for the reason that I do not understand electric and carpentry and window installation I continued with him until he crossed a threshold after he constructed a poor walk-in closet for me and I had to let him go. Multiple people were telling me about his poor job, including other contractors, my friends, etc... But it did not sink in untill he has redone my closet. He cannot do finish carpentry at all. We had to pay someone else to redo the majority of Paul's work which cost us thousands of dollars.
Description of Work: Mr Paul Hauck does not now how to install doors, and does not care to install handles/hinges/strike plates that match and are all the same. He does not now electric code and did our recess lights wrong, as well as electric plugs. Everythinh he has done for us in our house either fell apart or we had to completely redo it from scratch, even minor stuff like the crawl space cover. He refuses to clean up after his job is complete. He leaves dangerous nails sticking up, etc... He just does not care about the client, but he cares about collecting the pay check. He does things that are easier for him and not necessarily good for the client. You cannot trust his work. I had to pay Paul to install some electrical plugs twice because I needed a 4-plug outlet and he installed 2-plug and because I could not communicate well with his helper who refused to install what I needed for unknown reasons none of us could comprehend. Paul did not have precision tools for electric work and as a result the wholes for electrical outlets and recess lighting were uneven and still remained around the perimeter after the covers and recess lights were installed. The doors were crookedly installed and were scraping the floors and getting chipped. The hinges and strike plates were not installed properly flush with the door frame and all the screws and hinges and strike plates were different in design and some he left old. The posts that were supporting the awning above the deck Paul set on the ground or cement without shielding the bottom of the posts with sheet metal, leaving them to rot. The crawl space cover Paul created from red wood fell apart in a week. The window Paul installed into our garage was from year 2005, probably laying in his garage and we paid him for the new window. The weep holed on the new window are on the side. We have to replace it. He installed card board on the inner side of the window facing inside the garage. The back door of the garage he framed jammed again after he fixed it and still does. The walk-in closet he created was poorly designed and constructed. We now can hardly squeeze through the clothing and the shoes. The shoes should have been put on the right wall and the clothing on the left and back. The shelf supports were of different size and color, some finished, some not, there are cracks in vertical supports, they are sloppily joined with the base and crown molding and the door trim. The hot electrical wire on the front of the house was installed unsafely without conduit. My gardener complained to me. I asked Paul to redo the job. Paul's reply was that the wire is a special wire that does not need the conduit. He finally agreed to put a half diameter conduit only on the part of the wire that comes up the wall from the ground. The hot wire ran 1 inch below the ground along the facade of the house from right to left side. The box that it plugged into was not for outdoor electric. However, I found out after Paul was done with that electric job that he did not even need to run that wire. He could have tapped into the electric inside the house on the left of the house to get the electric for our outdoor lights. He just did it the wrong way for us because that way was easier for him. When I mentioned the issues with the closet Paul told me that he would have to spend more time and material and charge me for it. He was argumentative and hesitant to correct the defects. The molding for the house was placed on the ground and was getting scuffed and dirty. I asked Paul why my friend's molding was stored high on top of the boxes in my garage. He told me that that is because she is rich and is throwing money at him. Which is true, she is doing very well financially. However, I have paid him the average amount people pay to a good general contractor. He had a helper that spoke English and no one could understand him, including Paul. As a result we could not communicate about the problems and issues of his work as well as my needs. That is why the door bell took more than 10 hours to install. And we still do not have a working door bell on the second floor because Paul removed and covered up the existing door bell on the ceiling and we do not know where it is now. The transformer for the door bell downstairs was not installed up to code and we had to remove it. We do not have the downstairs door bell for that reason. After Paul's door bell installation I had to hold the door bell knob for the length of the melody to let the melody sound all 8 notes. Otherwise you will heat only a peep. Paul then had to spend 10 hours to figure out the problem in question. Paul refused to clean up and dispose of the construction debris. As a result things bought for my garage, like containers, as well as all things in my garage are heavily covered in saw dust and construction debris. The Bar that was on the deck is covered with the same and partially fell apart. We had to pay someone to fix it as well as clean up the garage and back yard debris. Paul left piles of boards with nails sticking out, old conduits for outdoor lights laying in the back and front yard, etc. and left home after a day's work. He used my window upstairs to put the compressor power cord through and I was afraid that he was going to bend the window frame. Paul grossly overcharged us for his work hours. He was hardly in our house and charged us for all these hours. For instance one week he was in our house 6 hours, but the invoice stated 42.
