Mr. Martinez located the wiring problem with the air conditioner and corrected it. He charged the system with freon and checked the furnace for problems. He located a sensor that was improperly located and corrected it. He was knowledgeable, courteous and completed the repairs quickly. I'm very happy with Seaside Air Conditioning & Heating and would definitely use them again!

Appointment went well. I am very detail oriented and hovered over the project to observe and inquire about issues. Also to ensure that nothing unscrupulous occurred. It did not and the technician, Jim B was very thorough and offered another Angies List option as I was considering that 1 lb of refrigerant would be enough. It was the right call from him and I was able to take advantage of their services at a good rate and they were able to increase their revenue in the hour they were on site. Punctual, informative and I would rate them an overall A.

It went excellent! I chose them based on the representative that did our estimate. In the initial estimate that I got he was more professional and explained everything very well.
Description of Work: installed a new hvac system with a condenser. They also put in an attic fan and replaced the two exhaust fans for two bathrooms. They also made a new access to the attic.

A representative from Seaside Air Conditioning contacted me the next morning after I had purchased their $59 a/c inspection special. Although their business is in south Orange County, and my house is in north Orange County (Los Alamitos), they still agreed to honor their deal and gave me my requested appointment time. Jim was on time, friendly, and very professional. He clearly and thoroughly explained the inspection process, and patiently answered the questions that I had while he was doing his work. After the inspection, Jim showed me where his concerns were and made recommendations as to what to fix now and what could wait til next year's tune-up. Fortunately, even though it had been years since I last serviced my A/C unit, everything is still in good shape, and now'I feel confident that Jim has it operating at full capacity. Seaside Air Conditioning did a great job and I will definitely not hesitate to call them again to service my A/C.
Description of Work: Complete tune up of my air conditioning system, fixed a refrigerant leak, and replaced 7 lbs. of refrigerant.

It took three visits to do maintenance because the first guy thought something was wrong. But the 2nd guy said nothing was wrong and the drain needed to be cleaned. The first guy came back to change the filters and said something was wrong and took pictures. I never heard back from them. The front office was confused whenever I called them.

I purchased a Angie's List Deal Offer for $59. ---- This A/C tune-up, cleaning, and inspection included the following: Free 1' MERV8 pleated paper-type intake filter---Checked thermostat calibration------Checked refrigerant pressure---Tested AC starting capabilities---Tested air conditioner safety controls---Adjustment of blower & components---Measure system's air flow---Tightened electrical connections---Measured units volts and amps---Lubricated all moving parts---Cleaned out under-sink condensate drain---Measured temperature difference between supply air and return air---Monitored cooling cycle---Examined prior installation qualities---Examined equipment condition, surrounding area and clearances---Clean condenser coil unit. Jim B., the service technician, was extremely knowledgeable about HVAC systems and took the time to show and explain to me what he observed via his monitoring equipment and a visual of my system. He discovered a blower housing that was unnecessarily vibrating but he easily fixed. He found a past plumber's past mistake which was plumbed such that the P-trap was not allowing my coil condensate (water) to drain into this under-sink drain and was thus having to drain via a secondary safety drainage to the outside that was causing the collection pan to rust unnecessarily, etc. While I will need to fix the plumbing problem (no biggie), he did wet-vac out the crud that had built up in the rubber hose connecting the attic pan to the sink P-trap. He helped identify other issues like this one (I won't bore you with all the details) as my home was originally built/ducted for Heat/Furnace only, with central A/C added post-build, followed by a mis-sized replacement 5-ton A/C Condenser unit (that should have been 4-ton in size). We had an extensive, informative talk about my options given that HVAC systems these days are like dominoes in that if you fix one thing, without fixing the associated engineering problems, you just create a stress on the system elsewhere. So he did his maintenance, fixed the components that were easily fixed, informed me of my options and gave me time and space to figure out what I want to do in terms of the trade-offs between piece-mill fixes or saving up and replace my duct working and A/C unit based on modern-day engineering design, equipment & technologies. Jim was here about 2 hours + working and advising me. A lot has changed in central HVAC engineering & technologies since my house was built 40 years ago. :( Overall, Jim was intelligent, had incredible customer service skills, articulate, patient and their was absolutely no up-selling pressure which I had just assumed would be the case before he arrived. Kudos to Jim B. and Seaside Heating & Air Conditioning for a useful and professional experience. A couple of years down the road, after I do some research and figure out what I want to do, I will for certain get a bid from Seaside for the work I will need performed. I typically have high expectations of service work and I was extremely satisfied. :) Thanks Seaside HVAC !!

My air conditioner was no longer working, so I wanted an evaluation to determine if we should repair or replace the unit. For $40 Jim came out and determined that the fuse was blown, the contactor was worn, and the condenser fan motor was no longer working. Jim went through each item step by step according to the symptoms he noticed, and explained everything to me. After determining the extent of the work needed and the cost involved to repair the nearly 30 year old unit, I decided to have them give me a bid for new equipment. Within 15 minutes Steve came to my house and did a full inspection of the existing system (including attic ducting, registers, etc.). Bid for new equipment work is pending, but I feel I received excellent service for the $40 spent so far. Both guys were very knowledgeable and courteous, answered all my questions, no pressure.

What I was surprised to learn from Victor, the owner, is that Seaside Air Conditioning prices labor according to a book of project durations even if those durations are calculated for entry-level technicians. In other words, the technician may only be on-site for 1 hour, however, the book suggests the project should take 3.5 hours. Therefore, the price is calculated by multiplying 3.5 hours times their regular labor rate. This pricing schema is regularly used by companies to massively increase profits. They know the far majority of jobs are significantly less than the book's estimations. By introducing the concept of "flat rate" book-based pricing, they neutralize various skill levels within the company, provides consistent pricing for specific jobs, and absolutely ensures profit while making the price per hour appear to be lower. Unfortunately, from a customer perspective, it's a complete rip-off. Consider searching for a company who prices labor according to his/her skill level and not according to a book. These places DO exist and with a little effort, calling around may save you $500 (like I did).
Description of Work: Seaside Air Conditioning came out to diagnose an issue with the furnace. The inspection was thorough and later confirmed as accurate. However, the price Seaside Air Conditioning quoted for the repair was $845 for a "kit" replacement and around $500 for individual parts with the caveat that this option *may* not work. After calling local supply stores, I learned primary part itself is actually $92 and by calling another company, I could get the part with labor for $325.

Response from Seaside Air Conditioning & Heating
Mostly accurate except that our $800 price was for a different kit that sells for closer to $300 to be more accurate. This entails about 2 hours of work plus drive time to get the parts. We also provide a 5 year warranty on the part. We do offer flat rate pricing which ends up working out fairly for our clients. You can always shop online and find parts but there is a lot more too it then just the part. Fortunately we provided the accurate diagnosis originally so the customer could then call around and shop it. We review our pricing regularly and some items it may appear overpriced based on the parts but items such as this full kit require skilled technicians and accurate installation methods. We do not advertise to be the lowest priced. We fall in the middle priced range where most companies that provide our level of customer service, professionalism and guarantee reside. You get what you pay for especially when you see out ratings .. The majority of our customers understand what it takes to run a service business and when the service is top notch you will pay a bit more. After all you are never compelled to proceed with us if you feel you can get a better price.

Response from Seaside Air Conditioning & Heating
As the owner of Seaside AC and Heating I always get to the bottom of negative reviews. In this case it turns out another company followed my technician and repaired a cracked plastic drain pan instead of replacing it for a charge of $225, which is a fair price. Due to past experience with Allstyle evaporator coils, which this customer has, and their tendency for cracked plastic drain pans I advise my technicians to replace cracked drain pans instead of repair. To clarify an evaporator coil looks like a medium size sheet metal box attached to the furnace in the attic usually about 3' long 20" tall and 20" deep. The plastic drain pan is inside the coil at the bottom, which collects water like a giant cookie sheet and then the water drains out pipes. This particular coil was installed in 2005 (9 years old) and recently developed a leak. We choose to propose replacement of the entire drain pan which have now been corrected by the manufacturer to be more durable and not so prone to leaks. Our proposed repair for $720, after Angie's List coupons, would have entailed evacuating the refrigerant in the ac unit, removing the coil from the attic, replacing the drain pan with a brand new sturdier updated version, re-installing the coil to the refrigerant lines, drain pipes etc. Lastly, my technician would have had to vacuum the entire ac system and after re-introducing the captured refrigerant he would have to assure the ac was cooling properly and all drain lines were properly operating. The coil was about 9 years old and developed a leak. In that scenario we choose to reduce our liability and not risk that another leak may or may not happen. It may in fact not leak ever again but replacing the broken part for an additional $495 with a 5 year warranty is the way we do business. I spoke with this Angie's list customer to verify the other company in fact repaired the drain pan instead of replace. The customer seemed satisfied with the repair and the other company's warranty of 90 days with the assurance that if it leaks after the 90 days to just call back. I have seen repairs such as this go bad whereas a leaky drain pan in an attic can leak through the ceiling causing thousands in drywall damage where removal, drying, insulation replacement, drywall replacement, painting and texturing all have to be done. It's this reason we will not repair certain parts where there is likely future risk of damage. I in no way mean to disparage the other company I just want to make it clear that the work performed was not apples to apples compared to our proposed work thus the discrepancy in price. Kindest Regards, Victor Serrao President

While we had some stumbles along the way, miscommunication that frankly was the fault of both parties, the owner stepped up and took care of us properly. The job was completed to our satisfaction, mistakes were fixed, and the owner personally came out o make sure that we were happy. Seaside wasn't the cheapest bid we received, but they provided a quality job with the backing of Home Depot. Their financing options and extended warranty also stood above the competition.
