I telephoned them of the furnace breaking down. They arrived the next day for the repair. With it being an urgent repair, I would do some comparative pricing before hiring the company again. I was happy with their service as they fixed the problem. However, I feel they were a little higher priced.
Description of Work: In an emergency repair, I had AAA Furnace & Air Conditioning replace the boiler motor on my gas furnace. My home is 1600 square feet. They disposed of the old part.

They actually came to my house to just clean my existing furnace and they ended up condemning it. The guy said legally he could not leave with this furnace still in my house. I thought that was highly professional of him and his company because he could have just cleaned it and left.

I think AAA Furnace and Conditioning did a very thorough job and they were very welcoming. I really liked the fact that the gentleman explained everything in detail of what he had done.
Description of Work: AAA Furnace and Air Conditioning did the basic maintenance on my 2800 square footage home to make sure I didn't need any air duct cleaning. The technicians went completely through the underground area of my home to inspect the air ducts for any dust or pollen.

AAA's estimator gave the most reasonable explanation about his recommendations. He made the point that the swing-down filter at the air return would increase noise vs. one installed outside in the garage above the furnace. AAA and one other company also recommended running some extra ductwork to increase the distance from the air return to quiet the system down. It was quoted by both as a separate add-on option, and AAA's quote was slightly cheaper. The pair from AAA arrived on time, were courteous, did the required work, and cleaned up afterward, including hauling away the old system. The job looks professionally done, and the system is indeed much quieter than what we had previously.
Description of Work: The week before this job we had AAA Furnace out to do a duct cleaning. The tech inspected the furnace as part of that and discovered two cracks in the heat exchanger, and he showed them to me using a camera system. The furnace was likely original -- maybe 30 years old. So we needed the furnace replaced. We got competitive bids from three companies on Angie's List, including AAA. Because we had our furnace cleaned with them, they gave an extra $100 discount on the quote, and came in $50 cheaper than their competitors for exactly the same system. Installed a Trane XL80 2-stage 80% 100,000 BTU furnace, with coil box for future A/C, new 5/1/1 programmable thermostat, and some extra, insulated ductwork for the air intake (all three companies quoted & recommended the identical system).

They did generally fine. Two-man crew. Punctual (8-12 window, arrived at 9am). Courteous and quick. They took the motor out of our heater (in the garage) and hooked up their large vacuum hose to the air intake, then blew through all the registers. We noticed the difference immediately. More interestingly, the more senior of the two service techs noted immediately by the way our furnace sounded that there was probably a crack in the heat exchanger. He also pointed out the way the flames danced around that something was wrong. After the heater was off and the motor pulled, he put their camera unit inside the furnace and showed two cracks. So, the service call ended up revealing a more expensive issue (the unit is too old to repair), but that's not their fault. We're now looking on Angie's List for furnace replacement, and AAA Furnace will be one of the companies we consider.
Description of Work: Basic central heating system: cleaning the ducts. We have 8 registers; their standard $225 price was quoted for a maximum of 12 registers.

They arrived, and covered the carpets before entering the house. I explained the situation to them, and asked them to check all the way back to the furnace. after about 30 minutes, they said there was nothing to fix. The ducts were intact. That really surprised me, as I was sure we were heating the crawl space under the house instead of the rooms. I believe it to be true, because they could have made more money fixing broken ducts. So now I have piece of mind that the system is functioning properly.
Description of Work: I was sure there were damaged ducts below the house. In fact, in getting an estimate about a year ago, that company said many had come apart. AAA would charge an hourly rate to repair damage they found. But they said there was none, and everything checked out okay.

I was given a window of 12-4 for the service; two nice guys arrived at 1:30 and immediately went to work. They told me that they would have to move the dryer out of the closet where it's kept (it's the kind that sits on top of the washer) in order to clean the dryer duct, and that there would be an extra charge of $50 (I wasn't expecting that but paid it anyway). After finishing, the guys told me that the ducts were really filthy and needed to be cleaned, so I felt good about having it done (I have to wonder if that's what they tell everyone, though). Three complaints, though: 1) the price was really high compared to other companies, but supposedly my 3rd floor location was the reason, 2) the guys left dirty lint all over the carpet near the dryer and outside on my porch where the furnace is, and 3) two of three exterior vents are still really dirty, so I'm wondering what THEY lead to, or if the guys just missed them, which I would consider shoddy. Bottom line, get 3 estimates.

His crew started the job three days later and they were finished in the two days, just as they had estimated. The crew was friendly and clean. There was a snafu with the permit for the A/C and Jim came out and quickly took care of it. I had partially taken apart a wood shed to make room for the A/C and his crew finished the demolition and took all the wood away so I didn't have to deal with it. I am quite satisfied with my new Trane system.
Description of Work: Jim came out on a non-work day to give me a quote for a replacement furnace, new air filtration system, and new A/C. He was friendly, creative, and thorough. I was interested in a high efficiency system so that's why it was in the $12K range.

I noticed our heater wasn't blowing hot air on Wednesday morning, and first called PG&E because of a mild gas smell in our basement. PG&E responded fairly quickly (we were given an "emergency" rating), about an hour and a half, and quickly determined that the hot surface igniter was bad. I did a search on "Angie's List" for a local furnace repair company and called AAA Furnace & Air, taking their "first available" service appointment scheduled for Friday between noon and 4 pm. Between Wednesday morning and Friday we were without heat, fortunately the weather in San Jose was very kind to us and the house temperature never dropped below 66. On Friday, a few minutes after noon I received a call from Mostie, AAA Furnace technician that he was on his way and arrived within a half hour and completed the needed repair very promptly and courteously. There was also no clean up afterwards, which pleased both me and my husband. All in all a good recommendation. Thanks Angie's List!

The company attempted to sell a new furnace rather than repair the old one. My furnace was about 12 years old, with a 20 year warranty on the heat exchanger. They indicated the heat exchanger would cost over $1000 to replace, and it was simply best to replace the furnace for $3000+ depending upon model, but never gave a firm estimate for the heat exchanger or took the time to find out that it was under warranty and really would only cost the labor. I contacted A&H Heating, they took the model number and serial number, and in the end it cost me only $160 for labor. Although I spent $90 for AAA Furnace's time to provide the initial diagnosis.

Prior purchase and installation job was A+. This last job was C. Failed city inspection first time. Did not leave manual for the Air Conditioner. Did not modify furnace to be operational in the upright position. Not professional job on vents. Second tech (Mike) was very knowledgable and modified the furnace and got it working. Estimator recommended enlarging intake vent and installer enlarged furnace intake and placed the second vent inlet in second bedroom. Would not recommend the intake be enlarged to a bedroom because the noise is awful. Luckily, it's used as a storeroom. Had to callback several times to resolve problems.

Overall, I am happy with their service even after the attic covering was broken and there were insulation pieces left in the ducts. Joseph was concerned about the broken attic covering and said it would be replaced. They cleaned up after themselves and they were polite. I've had Coit come clean the ducts before, but I trusted AAA Furnace would know more about repairing ducts.
Description of Work: Joseph and his assistant inspected the ducts in the attic crawl space after I told them of rats in the attic. Joseph crawled into the attic and taped up the one hole and chew marks in other areas. He even offered pictures of the duct hole. Unfortunately, his assistant accidentally broke the attic covering. Joseph apologized and stated he would return with a replacement. The duct repair would have been $20 more, but he waived the cost because of the broken attic covering. Then they took their hose from their truck to hook up with the furnace to vacuum the duct system. Joseph then proceeded to clean the registers (where the heated air comes out from) with an air hose, so the debris will get go into the duct system and into the truck. His assistant vacuumed the areas around the furnace and water heater. Joseph also replaced the filter and he warned me that there still may be insulation pieces in the ducts after the cleaning. There was and it was easy to vacuum up from the registers.

We needed a larger furnace and modified ductwork to heat our larger remodeled house. We got two bids, which were almost identical. One company bid a Trane XV90 furnace. AAA initially bid a less efficient furnace, a Trane XV80. However, when informed about the other company's bid, they matched it with the more efficient furnace. We chose to go with them for two reasons. They had far more ratings on Angie's List. They also proposed what seemed like a better system of ducting for the house. The work went pretty well with only a few exceptions. When the installation crew arrived, they had no idea what the estimator had proposed as far as the new ducting work. This got straightened out after a few phone calls, but it was an unnerving start. But everything got resolved to our satisfaction, and they supply a one year warranty on the work which appears to cover any adjustments to tune the system.
Description of Work: New high-efficiency furnace installed and ductwork modified.
